This was my first time coming to Avondale since they built up all of the decks in the back! My friends and I came on Saturday during the day to watch college football, which they show on the big screen behind the stage. We sat in the new, upper "VIP" section! They had some barstools, but for the most part Avondale is BYO chair. I brought a towel to sit on. The upper deck was nice because it was shady on a hot day. Then, you're only one flight of stairs away from the bar right below. Avondale makes great beers. I had a Sour Pash, one of my favs, and a couple cans of Porch Light, made by Cahaba Brewing's company. In addition to great beers and drinks, I was hungry for some food. The nearly always have 1-3 food trucks parked right on the lawn, and they offer Miracle Pizza now! I ordered from a QR code inside, and Miracle brought the pizza over from right next door. It was delicious, too! They make a great pizza. It was fairly empty when we got here at 11:30, but by 3:30 it was buzzing with SEC fans of all teams. This is a great spot to watch Saturday football, especially as the weather cools off. Oh, and did I mention? Dog friendly :) read more

My husband and I attended the annual S'mores and Pours event at Avondale Brewing last night. It has been awhile since we've been to Avondale Brewery, but we love the renovated covered outside bar. It's perfect if it's raining or people might need shade. This also gave the upstairs room a hangout area which will really help it be an even better event space. I loved that the outside lounge is air conditioned and has comfy chairs. It was perfect place to take a break from the outdoor festivities. read more

It's been a minute since I actually visited the tap room. I was pleasantly surprised to my satisfaction! The taproom is really cool looking & relaxing. The gentleman working was prompt and helpful. I had an Oktoberfest, which was delicious. I also sampled the Amber Wild. I throughly enjoyed them both. The taproom menu was extensive in beer variety. I was impressed. Can't wait to get back here. Came here at almost 10 PM on a Thursday night as we were passing through Birmingham and the vibe was so energetic, it seemed a bunch of people who used to work at the brewery were in there hanging out and the whole bar seemed to know each other. They had a host doing karaoke, and everybody was really getting into it. We tried the hazy IPA and the THC drink, both were delicious. The THC drink was light with a fruity taste, but not too overpowering and not too sweet. You could definitely taste the THC although it was only 3 mg so it was pretty light. The bartender was very friendly, we asked him for a sticker, and he looked in a few places before pulling one out from behind the bar and giving it to us. read more

Dedicated to first time visitors to this concert venue. My wife & I are local from a nearby county, 04/02/26 was OUR first time. My wife 59,  I'm 68, we're married 42 yrs. 1. Park 2. VIP MEET 3. PPit Entry 4. GA Entry We met so many great Americans from Maine to Nebraska.  From Texas to Ohio. 1. Parking: Parking is no issue. I parked in a zone paid twice to stay valid. Total $10.60. Safe & close. 2. VIP MEET 4 pm a line formed at the FRONT door  for "VIP GREET". 3. PPit Entrance Gradually, a line formed on the left hand side of the building as you face the front about 1/3 of the way back.  This line was for the "PPit" area. I saw a venue employee in a yellow t-shirt, and was told to go for GA 4. GA Entry GA LINEs at wooden gates on the OPPOSITE end of the block from front doors. We could BOTH enter there.  ( in the back of that whole block from the front ). These gates appear like they might be hiding a "dumpster entrance" until you "peep" inside. Then you see the "General Admission" signs. The venue has absolutely NO SIGNAGE" OUTSIDE anywhere around the block. Gates don't open until what's posted on their website. They don't even begin to set out flags, tables, any kind of "signs" they are about to "open" until 10 minutes before time to open.  Be prepared to show ID if you want to drink alcohol. You get a yellow wrist band with "21+" all over it. Once entering, they scan your ticket, be prepared to remove EVERYTHING from your pockets holding it ALL in your hands above your head while they use metal detectors for your safety. Now you are inside. It's a nice outdoor venue for this show. There's a few picnic tables for eating and resting. We did not sample available food so I cannot comment on it except to say there were food trucks there. Our first beer was 24 ounce Coors Light. I'm not exactly sure why, but they just tasted different from any Coors Light I ever had. They have to pour them in a plastic cup. Maybe that changed the taste. I don't know. The total cost for the 2 beers was about $30. I don't recall seeing "prices", that was merely an unexpected surprise. Then it came time to get the wife in the "Preferred Pit Area" and we learned then she was going to have to have a "Special Wrist Band" and that we had to walk to where people were "entering" the venue from THAT line. My wife not wanting to be "rude" to people in that line, almost made 2 critical mistakes, ( thinking about getting in the END of that line ) First, almost leaving the venue with a beer. Second, almost voiding her own ticket since "if you leave there's no re-entry." Fortunately, security stopped her as did I, and we got her that special "Preferred Pit Area" wrist band so she could enter into the pit there. Our second beer was "Good People IPA" because they only had COORS as a recognizable brand, but neither of us really found that beer "palatable". Total for 2 beers, $19.60 with tip. Security allowed me to pass through the ADA section to pass the wife her beer. Maybe we're just not accustomed to craft beers. I recommend sticking with COORS TBH. They have many craft beers if that's your thing. We enjoyed the show, although a couple of times to rest her left knee, my wife squatted quite a bit, or down on one knee and out of abundance of caution? They rushed security or fire medics to her aid to make sure she was doing OK every time she went to one knee. I'm happy the venue took that extra care, although it eventually became redundant. We never tried their cocktails but it appeared like they might have been fantastic just by judging the intoxication level of the ladies, there.  There's your supportive pointers.  Where to find lines for entry, remember to get those wristbands that aren't mentioned anywhere. And don't accidentally wander out of any open gates. I owe a debt of gratitude to the young lady who bought my wife some water, and the rest of the ladies in the "Preferred Pit" who looked out for her. "THANK YOU". Leaving was uneventful as we decide to sit and wait on others to leave and we left together. We made friends and many nice introductions with a lot of people from all over America. It's not really necessary to get here 2 hours early. Relax in Parking and introduce yourselves to each other. Head to the gate about 30 minutes until time. Hopefully the venue reads this, updates outside with  signs, and realizes just how many visitors from ALL across AMERICA comes  here! read more

We attended the JJ Grey concert this month (4/24). The staff was incredibly friendly, the drinks were cold and the overall space and feeling was on point! Absolutely no issues with service, drinks, etc. The only thing odd was they closed the bar an hour or so before the concert for "A Listers". No big deal, there are bars across the street but I felt it was odd. I understand they may have paid for the event or were friends or family of the bands but it would seem there is another space in the building for their event vice kicking everyone out. read more

I'm not a beer girly but I love me some Avondale Brewery. They keep a fun event lineup and the space is great for gathering. These pics are from a recent Janelle Monae concert where she totally rocked the house. I got the pit tickets up close by the stage and had a fab time. I also got a margarita from the bar, so don't worry my fellow non beer drinkers, we're good here too. I've been to food truck parties, concerts and more in this space with no complaints. I normally don't review places based upon one visit but I am going to make an exception here. Why? We came from Good People based upon the beers there and the service experience from bartender THERE-she was 5 stars- engaging- informative about local restaurants...plus a brewery dog. We came here based on her recommendation. This bartender? Couldn't have cared less- not engaged at all. Like she was miserable to even been there "Y'all have food" nope "Is that pizza place next door open" nope First table we sat at indoors- wobbled and spilled half our beers. the bartender saw this and kept on being unhappy- not an offering of a napkin or towel- luckily I travel with them or we would have left a lake for the next guests. Sorry for the trouble but damn fake it till you make it! LOVED the outdoor space here and big screen TV but the beer we loved at Good People didn't even taste as good here bc her attitude was so sour.. we had one and left where being outdoor space beer loving tourists we would have stayed for several had she been even the bit welcoming. Oh Avondale.... Part of my heart is here. I have always loved the spacious lawn, the dogs, the friends!! But when Taylor helped us have a make-shift reception here last year I was sold forever. Our wedding memories will forever be tied to this, dare I say, magical place. But that's only the first layer!! I was the jr. Board president for the autism society for years and they allowed us to have our large event, The Funky Fish Fry here every year. It is such a blessing to get this amazing venue and all for charity! A classic Birmingham brewery with great drinks (Brunch Punch Shandy and Sour Pash and vital classics!) and ambience. Don't sleep on this part of town. I was glad they had the food truck in the back outdoor area. The nachos were sweet and salty, and a great portion size to split with a friend. They do keep it cool so I would recommend bringing a jacket. Overall, this is a great brewery on this side of town. While they don't have an in house kitchen, there are multiple eateries within walking distance. I have yet to come here for an outdoor concert but hopefully that will change in the upcoming months! read more

Avondale is a great mix of everything you could want from a brewery. They have a variety of beers as well as a few specialty cocktails - including one of my favorite Birmingham beers, the Spring Street Saison. Besides the saison, they tend to mostly carry sours and IPAs, but their core beers are pretty good overall. The real thing that's great about this place is the ambiance. They have an abundance of outdoor seating, making it a great place for larger groups. Dogs are most certainly welcome as well. They also have a taproom if you'd prefer indoor seating, as well as a designated "sour room" where they have experimental sour ales. There is usually a food truck or two if you want food, and if not there is Post Office Pies and Saw's right next door (outside food is allowed). The best thing by far about Avondale is the entertainment. On any given day there could be a concert, movie screening, or sports game playing on their stage. They bring in well-established as well as up-and-coming musical artists, and the tickets are very reasonably priced. I have had so much fun attending concerts here. Overall, Avondale has something for everyone and it is definitely worth a visit! read more

Four stars for the beer (out of five), but eleven stars for the service (also out of five)! What a fab way to kick off my trip to Birmingham! My husband and I sat at the bar on a Sunday night. Most people were outside in their huge backyard space, so it was fairly quiet indoors, but we are northerners and not accustomed to the sticky summer weather, so we opted for air conditioning. It was cool inside, but the service from Megan at the bar was as warm as could be! She poured our flights, regaled us with the story of Miss Fancy the Avondale elephant, and when we were heading out, she sent us to the Piggly Wiggly* nearby armed with an extensive list of local breweries and their standout beers so we could stock our hotel mini fridge. The beers were decent overall, like a 3.75 out of 5. The Miss Fancy tripel was excellent and my favourite by far. A Belgian tripel is one of my fave styles, and it tasted exactly as it should. *due to AL laws, Avondale can't sell their beers to go since they don't can it on site read more

I LOVE THIS PLACE! One of the best brewery environments in Birmingham! My wife and I came here to spend a few kidless hours one Saturday. The weather was beautiful and there were a good many people sitting outside, enjoying a drink, and watching football on the MASSIVE tv that is on the outdoor stage. We opted to sit inside and found a couple of seats at the bar. The bartender (I wish I remembered his name) was very attentive, even though he was the only one working the inside bar with a growing Saturday afternoon crowd. I like trying something new every time I head to a brewery, so I opted for the Pineapple Vanilla Milkshake IPA. It was delicious. Hoppy taste with a smooth pineapple flavor. Highly recommend. We opted for the Yellowhammers for our second drink. This was a PERFECT Saturday football afternoon beverage. 10/10 Avondale Brewing is located in one of the hottest areas in Birmingham, and is a definite must stop if you're in the area. read more

This is one of my favorite breweries and I wish there was one closer to me! *hint hint* Every time we visit my in-laws in Birmingham we have to make a stop here! This brewery offers a great variety of really good beers. I love darker beers so I usually order the Vanillaphant. It is a vanilla porter that has chocolate and nutty hints. It is really smooth and easy to drink for how rich the flavors are. I also enjoy the Spring street saison which is Belgian style farmhouse ale if I'm going for something lighter. It's crisp and has a hint of hops and I actually prefer this one in the summer. The really have every type of beer here ranging from stouts, to wheats, to ciders, and many IPA's. The brewery itself is spacious and my favorite part of it is the outdoor section. We get Saw's (favorite BBQ place) next door every time too and eat it out here at whatever picnic table we can snag. There's a giant outdoor bar and a fun outdoor concert stage where they host live concerts. When we came last they had a football game on the large main screen. This outdoor space is pet friendly and they used to let dogs run freely but not I believe they all have to be leashed. Last thing I really enjoy about Avondale Brewing Co is the history, both in the physical building and inspiration of the brewery. They say that back in the 20's during the prohibition, there was an elephant that drank beer wandering the streets in Avondale and this brewery was created to keep her legacy. #TrunksUp to that! read more

A return visit to Avodale Brewery and I will always be back whenever in Birmingham. Located in the outskirts of downtown, they provide awesome beer in a great environment. The inside portion (pub) is closed for renovation, but the outside, back is open follows proper COVID protocols as you are outside. A great venue for a concert or any live show is available with a stage with great audio (speakers) - during my two beer visit, an appropriate rock & roll movie was playing, "The School of Rock." Picnic style seating are appropriately distanced so that you can sit and enjoy the movie, concert, and imbibe in your favorite...My choice was the Pale Ale (with extra hops) and it did not disappoint. Definitely worth visiting - especially when the weather warms up in the spring and COVID becomes a thing of the past. Parking can be an issue as you have to find street parking. If not on location, you can also stop by a grocery store and pick up a six pack or two or three of Avondale Brewery's great selection of beer. read more

Reviewing the Avondale Burger Company (posting here because there is no separate business listing, though there should be). Lunch on a Sunday afternoon hit all the spots. Had a Nashville style Hot Chicken Sandwich and Zesty Fries (which pairs very well with Cherry Seltzer), outside in the shade, with music and videos in the background. Very chill atmosphere, where you're just as likely to run into old friends as meet new ones. Seasoning on the chicken breading is itself spicy, with the Nashville hot sauce added, along with cheese, tomato, and onion. Waffle fries also have a spice with a rare crispy/flaky crunch. Highly recommend for safe socially distant outside dining. The ABC (Avondale Burger Co.) food trailer is fine-dining quality ingredients and preparation of approachable comfort food in a back yard setting. These days, if I'm spending money on a meal out, I'm glad to find something I couldn't easily make for myself at home (key word: "easily"). read more

My husband and friends went there Thursday for a concert. We had lots of fun and security was fantastic at entrance. The only huge problem was at the end of night. As we were leaving one of the workers who was female, was yelling at the people to leave. She was waiting at the gate with the lock on chain yelling at people to get their asses out. It was very unprofessional. It didn't ruin the concert for me but it left a very bitter taste for me on the establishment. I'm really hoping it was an isolated incident. read more

Large variety of house-made beers, with something for everyone. We particularly liked the plum tart sour (redundant name, I know, but it was tasty). They have a large patio area. We visited for BurgerFest, where Avondale partners with the ALSA Alabama Junior Board to raise funds for ALS research and treatment. Both the ALSA volunteers and the Avondale employees were fantastic: friendly and pleasant. The vendors they had were great: our favorite was Maggie's Farm (go try them!). The event was well organized, and we felt more relaxed than when we've attended similar events in the past. Our 7 year old was with us, and there were other families there with children and doggies. If you're reading this review, I highly suggest planning on attending next year's BurgerFest. Attendance did seem a little light, but this was only the third year so I assume they're still working on gaining a following. Definitely a cause worth supporting, and even better that you're supporting a local brewery in the process. Oh, and Golden Flake and Red Diamond were involved as well: free chips and free coffee and tea. read more

10/10 for Avondale! I went to a concert and wow....I was blown away. Quick entry involving bag check, metal detector wand, and 21+ verification. They have several lines and their drinks are amazing and reasonably priced which is a plus. Bathrooms are actual bathrooms (there are portpotties but also actual bathrooms) and the lines was never long. Overall, I really enjoyed this venue and as an avid concert goer, would absolutely recommend this venue to anyone read more

How on Earth did I manage to never review this place? I'll start by saying this...it's awesome. I remember the days before there was good beer available in Birmingham. It was a dark time. When we finally got good beer, it took a while longer before local companies were able to brew their own, and even longer before they were able to serve it on site at the breweries. Since then, we've had a lot of them pop up and so there are a ton of choices out there, but of them all I think that Avondale is one of the best. I will admit that over a long period of time, I have consumed an outrageous amount of beer, of all kinds and from all kinds of places. No matter what you prefer, Avondale has something to suit you. From session beers to fruity ones, high gravity triples and double IPA's, sours...you name it...whatever you prefer they've got something to suit you. The people are always friendly and efficient, the prices are reasonable, and the space is massive and has a variety of seating to suit solo boozers or large groups of friends inside the bar or out in the back yard where additional taps mean that at peak times you can still get served quickly. Aside from those things they also host a lot of concerts and other events on site. You could see a band, eat from a dozen food trucks at a food truck festival, and participate in a number of other activities that you might find on their calendar. They manage to come across not just as a business, but as active participants in the community which is a great thing. The only...only...only thing I can say that could be seen as a negative, is that they allow dogs in the back yard area....which is actually a good thing, so in a sense that should reflect positively on the business. But as we know, not all dog owners are responsible or respectful of others, and so keep in mind that it's possible that someone's overzealous pet may jump up and leave paw marks on your pants, or worse, you could be enjoying a beer and strolling through the grass and find that there are places that you wish you hadn't stepped. Maybe some signage to indicate the importance of being a responsible dog owner could make that better. Besides that I wouldn't change a thing. read more
