It's been a minute since I actually visited the tap room. I was pleasantly surprised to my satisfaction! The taproom is really cool looking & relaxing. The gentleman working was prompt and helpful. I had an Oktoberfest, which was delicious. I also sampled the Amber Wild. I throughly enjoyed them both. The taproom menu was extensive in beer variety. I was impressed. Can't wait to get back here. Many updates have been made to their outdoor concert spaces. I'll be back real soon!
Very neat place! Every time I come, they keep adding on and making it more upscale. Great family friendly place, great beer selection and lots of outdoor activities!
Came here at almost 10 PM on a Thursday night as we were passing through Birmingham and the vibe was so energetic, it seemed a bunch of people who used to work at the brewery were in there hanging out and the whole bar seemed to know each other. They had a host doing karaoke, and everybody was really getting into it. We tried the hazy IPA and the THC drink, both were delicious. The THC drink was light with a fruity taste, but not too overpowering and not too sweet. You could definitely taste the THC although it was only 3 mg so it was pretty light. The bartender was very friendly, we asked him for a sticker, and he looked in a few places before pulling one out from behind the bar and giving it to us.
We attended the JJ Grey concert this month (4/24). The staff was incredibly friendly, the drinks were cold and the overall space and feeling was on point! Absolutely no issues with service, drinks, etc. The only thing odd was they closed the bar an hour or so before the concert for "A Listers". No big deal, there are bars across the street but I felt it was odd. I understand they may have paid for the event or were friends or family of the bands but it would seem there is another space in the building for their event vice kicking everyone out.
I'm not a beer girly but I love me some Avondale Brewery. They keep a fun event lineup and the space is great for gathering. These pics are from a recent Janelle Monae concert where she totally rocked the house. I got the pit tickets up close by the stage and had a fab time. I also got a margarita from the bar, so don't worry my fellow non beer drinkers, we're good here too. I've been to food truck parties, concerts and more in this space with no complaints. The inside is nice as well, lots of tvs and good vibes from the staff.
I'm on the junior board for The Literacy Council of Central Alabama and we had a fundraising event last night at this brewery. Avondale Brewing had a great venue for our event. Their security did a great job helping us facilitate getting the guests into the outside area where the entertainment we arranged was performing. The bartenders made great drinks. Everyone had a great time. Check out Avondale Brewing for your next event or if you need somewhere cool to hang out.
I really enjoyed the environment especially the outside lawn. The service was also good and I definitely recommend this brewery to go in Birmingham.
They are not closed! Finally stopped in here for an after ride brew. I tried the Brunch Punch Shandy and Ms. Fancy's Tripel. I settled on the Brunch Punch Shandy. I also tried the draft cocktail: Yellowhammer. We enjoyed an after ride snack from the Avondale Burger Co. food truck. We enjoyed the vibe, the food and the brews.
Oh Avondale.... Part of my heart is here. I have always loved the spacious lawn, the dogs, the friends!! But when Taylor helped us have a make-shift reception here last year I was sold forever. Our wedding memories will forever be tied to this, dare I say, magical place. But that's only the first layer!! I was the jr. Board president for the autism society for years and they allowed us to have our large event, The Funky Fish Fry here every year. It is such a blessing to get this amazing venue and all for charity! Speaking of events, it wouldn't be Avondale without the concerts! Need to breath tonight, so excited! The drinks: I am not a beer connoisseur so the atmosphere used to be my selling point. Until, they got margs and yellow hammers!! I am looking forward to enjoying several of each tonight. The Food: Avondale burger Co. Is where it's at! I'm not going to get too wrapped up here because they're deserving of their own review but OMGSH GO TRY IT!! I could go on and on but who has time to read such a long review? Love you Avondale.
I haven't been to a concert here since last year and this was a great experience! Everything is set up to run very smoothly and help keep lines to a minimum which anyone can appreciate.
A classic Birmingham brewery with great drinks (Brunch Punch Shandy and Sour Pash and vital classics!) and ambience. Don't sleep on this part of town. I was glad they had the food truck in the back outdoor area. The nachos were sweet and salty, and a great portion size to split with a friend. They do keep it cool so I would recommend bringing a jacket. Overall, this is a great brewery on this side of town. While they don't have an in house kitchen, there are multiple eateries within walking distance. I have yet to come here for an outdoor concert but hopefully that will change in the upcoming months!
Flight o'clock! Decent selection on beer. Great set up with an outdoor stage for live music and plenty of land to relax enjoying some beer. My bartender Michael was awesome!
Reviews are largely positive. People highlight the beer selection, welcoming atmosphere, and friendly staff. The space is family- and pet-friendly.

What keeps me coming back to this joint? The beer, the chill atmosphere, and the friendly folks behind the bar. The saison is my favorite, but most of my friends tend to gravitate towards the triple. I like the outdoor seating area on warm days/evenings. Last time we were there a band was playing on the stage, and we had to move inside in order to hear each other. But other than that, cool vibe, and def. see myself returning for more fun times. Check this place out! read more

A great space to have a quality beer on a hot summer day. I enjoyed the amber ale and their new hard seltzer. My husband really liked Miss Fancy's Tripel. Great little story on the back of the coasters. read more
I discovered Avondale Brewery on my first night in Birmingham when the restaurant served Vanillaphant Porter and I couldn't wait to visit this place. After the first visit I came back for a second visit. This place is a small local brewery putting out some awesome brews. They are located in an old building, but they have done an excellent job of making the place fresh and inviting. You can smell the beer when you come in and the staff are very friendly. I absolutely love the Vanillaphant Porter. This is an awesome beer, even more awesome they have a couple others in the porter/Stout family that are equally awesome. I sampled a couple other brews and they were all fantastic, but the Vanillaphant Porter had stole my heart. I just wish I could get this in Iowa. I will definitely be back if in the area again and if a business sells Vanillaphant Porter from Avondale Brewery I will be enjoying one. Thanks for making this amazing brew! read more
One of the best brewers in town. They were the first to step away from IPA'S and start brewing the beers that everyone likes. Their porter, Vaniliphant is excellent. Their Miss Fancy is the only Belgian Triple brewed in Birmingham and is 9.8% alcohol. Drink with caution. They have a great outside area and bar. They do not have food but are connected with Post office Pies. Saw's BBQ is also close as are numerous restaraunts. Avondale has no problem with patrons bringing in food. This is a great venue almost every night and weekend. Enjoy. read more

Avondale was my first beer in public since the start of the pandemic, we came because from their website the patio looked super spread out. That was certainly true, TONS of outdoor space to spread out and be very isolated. The beer was cold and delicious. The only complaint I have was the bartender was not wearing a mask despite the signs about every 3 feet encouraging masking while inside. There is a HUGE screen for watching sports and it would be a great place to watch football this fall. I definitely will return next time I am in Birmingham! read more
Bang for your buck: 9/10 Quality: 8/10 Service: 10/10 Ambiance/Location: 10/10 Overall: 8.5/10 Avondale Brewing is really an unexpected spot. We were shocked to see all of the posters for upcoming concerts featuring really big name acts! So unique for a brewery! There's ample seating inside and at the inside bar and there's a large outdoor space to pull up a chair and enjoy a pint. The outdoor space also features a bar and a huge stage (presumably for those concerts!). There are also TVs to catch a game! The beer was pretty good. I tried an ale and Dave ordered an IPA. Great service as well! read more
Our first stop on our ad-libbed brewery tour of Birmingham was to Avondale. First of all, I have to let you all know...I'm a flatlander...(not a flat-earther...that's a whole other kind of paranoia)...I grew up in a part of the country that's laid out in 1-mile square sections...roads run north/south/east/west. Thankfully, our "tour guide," my father-in-law, lives in the Birmingham area and was able to navigate us around to our destinations...because I kept completely losing my sense of direction as we headed into some parts of town! Avondale is a great, laid-back kind of space. We sat at the bar and chose a flight of 4 of their offerings...our bartender was friendly, and even offered a taste of a 5th beer that wasn't part of our flight. This isn't a fancy/snooty kind of place, but had a great vibe of what I love about craft beer...experimentation and fermentation. We didn't try any of the food, so this review is only about the beers. Enjoyed each one, and would recommend to any beer nerds like us! read more

The brewery is located in an older former industrial part of town that is being revitalized and looks pretty good. The ambiance was great, service excellent and beers really good. A few of us had beer tasting samplers while others enjoyed a few pints. Avondale Brewery is a good place to hang out while enjoying their excellent beers, highly recommend a stop here whenever in Birmingham. read more
Really amazing brewery in Avondale! I've been countless times for various events such as, Fourth of July fireworks, concerts, food truck events, and of course the occasional beer. They have a nice inside section, which they are renovating for more space. They have a big green area outside to sit and enjoy your beer. Pets are also allowed, so you can bring the fur babies along. They also have a wide range of beer types. They have seltzers, IPAs (even snake handler from good people), and a few sour beers as well. Even with it packed sometimes there is never a long wait for beer. They also have food trucks very often, so there's always an option for food! One of my favorite places in Birmingham. read more
I've been a customer a few times this year. On one occasion, we stopped by Saw's Soul Kitchen next door and picked up lunch and then walked over and found a table inside. Beautiful, flowing, tapped beers followed. This brewery is known for it's chill atmosphere, with dogs, lots of people and live music. On another occasion more recently, we came for the burger cook-off. I tried 5 burger samples (not entire burgers, just quarters and one half burger). I paired it with their Mexican lager. It was the first time i'd tried it. Pretty good and light. As far as beers go, Miss Fancy's Tripel and the Spring Street Saison are still my favorites. This is definitely my favorite brewery in the city. A great spot! read more

I'm always on the hunt for local craft brews, and Avondale exceeded my expectations. I stopped by while in Birmingham after reading a few reviews on Yelp, and man am I glad I did! I love this brewery! I tried the flight of their year round beers, and all of the brews were well balanced and tasty! My favorite was the Spring St. Saison, and I was most surprised by the the porter (I'm not typically a fan of porters, but this one was my second favorite from Avondale). The staff was very friendly and super welcoming of us as well as our pup! We sat outside and enjoyed a beautiful day with some great beer. I definitely recommend stopping by and checking this place out! read more

In town for the marathon. Sat at the bar and Michael helped us. He is very friendly and made us feel at home. Loved the atmosphere of the bar. Wish we could have experienced the outdoors but it was STILL raining! I tried a few beers, which were all really good but settled on the Mill City White due to the lower ABV & my husband enjoyed the Warning Shot! read more

Sweet spot located in just down the road from where I lived. Good beer selection, even though I am more of a dark beer kinda guy (porters, browns and stouts). I thoroughly enjoyed their porter and ipas when I visited the place. Very nice staff. Nice spacious seating. And they allow outside food to be eaten on their premises. Good spot for good beers at any time of day. Will be back. read more

Great spot. Nice open areas. Love the stage and screen. Good variety of beer. Only negative is they do not show you the ounces of beer you are getting. Some beers come as 16 and some 12. All in all a great place. read more

I wandered into Birmingham for the day to branch out and stumbled upon Avondale on the recommendation of Trip Advisor. The bartenders were very friendly and helpful when suggesting things to do and places to eat. I had one of the sour beers which proved to be refreshing. The prices were good and the bar had great AC to get out of the hot Alabama heat. read more
I love all the brewery's around town and love to frequent them especially on a sunny day. Avondale is a classic and one of the first brewery's in Birmingham. They have a wide selection of beers so you a sure to find something to tickle your fancy, maybe the miss fancy one of their signature high gravity brews. My favourites include the mill city white the street car kolsh and blackberry wit, the later is seasonal what the others you can get year round Avondale has a huge outdoor space and is perfect on a sunny day, seats go quickly but the grass is pleasant to sit on. You can bring your dogs and children here and there is plenty of room for them to run about. They have a huge stage which is perfect for live entertainment, I have listens to a few shows there and the sound is class. Upstairs room for private events and downstairs tap room to get out of the rain. I recommend this place to locals and out of towners alike. Only complaint is sometimes it's so busy it takes a while to get a beer. Till next time read more

Visited Birmingham to try out some local breweries. Avondale Brewing was one of the first ones that opened in Birmingham so we had to stop by and check it out. We got a flight and tried their core beers. I think their flights are a bit overpriced compared to others. While none of them stood out to me, all of them were pretty solid. The main entrance is by the bar which is a pretty tight indoor sitting area. They do have a bigger outdoor space with sitting area and another bar. You can't order flights from the outside bar though. It is dog friendly which was great since we brought our dog with us. If you haven't been it's at least worth a try. read more
Avondale has always been my favorite brewery in Birmingham. I love nearly all of their beers, and they also now serve seltzer, which is pretty tasty! I ordered their new Japanese Lager, and it tasted extremely authentic. It's the perfect hot weather beer. I was very surprised! I hope they can it soon. The venue is the best brewery venue in town. It has tons of outside space, outside bar, stage, and cozy indoor area. The service has always been phenomenal. Dogs are welcome too! read more

I have been to this brewery many times and had a wonderful time. However, one night at a concert there was a bartender who refused to serve my friend and me. We were both carded and my friend made a joke abput being carded because she was asian. The bartender then became offended about this and said we called him racist and actively refused to serve us after taking oir order and told is we had to find another server. We told him we were obviously joking and he continied to refuse to interact with is and served numerous white males around us. Despite my many great experiences here, this will certainly leave a permanent negative impression. read more

First this place is not closed, I just left it. Second it is a very cool air conditioned spot with cold beers. We both got flights. It has an amazing outdoor space with concerts and a big screen TV to watch sports. Definitely recommend! Best brewery in the location read more

I was visiting family down in Alabama recently and my cousin took us to a local taco joint in Birmingham for dinner. After trying Avondale's Battlefield IPA on draft there I was happy to hear that our next stop was actually to be the Avondale Brewery itself. The building appears to be an old firehouse based on the large garage door-sized windows in the front. Inside the high ceiling and open floor plan give you the feeling that they placed a bar in the middle of a brewery and you are drinking right from the tanks. My fiancée and I opted for a beer flight upon arrival to the bar after looking at their draft selection: two IPAs, vanilla porter, nut brown, tripel, kolsch, saison, and a stout. This was not the normal selection. While sipping you can read about the unique history of the area and their mascot: Ms. Fancy the elephant. (Trunks Up!) Seemed like a trendy hangout for the younger crowd with most people milling around the outdoor area which was primarily a fenced in lot between the brewery and a storage facility in the back. The bar inside had plenty of open seating in this night and you could see the majority of their equipment and fermenter tanks behind the bar. read more

I have tickets for JJ Grey in July X5. Is there any seating? Are lawn chairs permitted? Three senior citizens with knee problems but attend many JJ concerts. Thanks for any info!
There is seating, but it is off to the side (picnic tables closer to the bar area). Yes, you can bring lawn chairs, or blankets too. I'd recommend doing that, and probably getting there a little early since it can fill up quickly!
What if someone doesn't drink beer, could you bring something in?
Negative. You can bring outside food in but no outside liquor. Sometimes they have the bar setup but that is mostly on special events.
Any bands tonight or anything going on?
Hey Tina! We don't have any bands playing tonight. Follow us on social media (Facebook and Twitter) for announcements about our events.…
Is it handicap/ wheelchair accessible?
The main bar is level with the street and there are restrooms on both levels. To get to the patio you would need to go out the front door and around to the side. There are 2-3 steps between the main bar and the patio. So accessible yes, but…
