She is basically a librarian of beverages. Her knowledge runs deep and she genuinely knows the story, flavor profile, and use for just about every bottle in the shop. Conversations here feel natural and educational, not salesy. A quick heads up for anyone not from Alabama, the state government makes things messy when it comes to alcohol taxes and pricing. That is not on Lenell. She clearly does her best to keep prices reasonable, but the regulations and taxes make it challenging. Knowing that, the value is still there when you look at the quality and uniqueness of the selection. And the selection is what really stands out. It is curated, thoughtful, and downright impressive. I was able to pick up several bottles I have never seen before anywhere else. This is not a grab a bottle and leave type of store. This is a browse, ask questions, discover something new kind of place. The lady who owns the place has done a fantastic job at curating a remarkable selection of things that you're going to want to try. The vibes are cozy and the decor interesting. The price points span a good range so there's something for everyone. Definitely check out the wine specials. I picked up a dozen assorted bottles to fill up a wine rack that had gone empty, and I was able to do that for what turned out to be less than expected. Will definitely be returning once I need to do that again. Aside from the interesting selection of bottles and the friendly vibes, it's also cool to see new and quirky businesses popping up in areas that are undergoing a revitalization. You love to see it. The person who ended up taking our order seemed either overwhelmed, new, or unsure of what they were doing, which made the service less than smooth. That said, they do have a solid selection of beers. Unfortunately, out of the four stouts I tried in my flight, three completely missed the mark, and the one I did enjoy was just okay. When this woman put them in the bag she did it extremely roughly causing loud sounds as if the bottles were cracking. I asked if I could check to make sure no damage was done and with a snarky voice she replied, "if the bottles had been broken the bottles there would be liquid everywhere". Truthfully, it does not matter whether she cracked them in a way that broke them or not. No one deserves the person checking them out to put dents and knock off glass of 2 $40+ bottles of alcohol. I was astonished by her response. Then I said, may I have the receipt and she responded by saying the receipt was in the bag. All of this she said in the same horrible, ungrateful, rude attitude. Everyone is struggling right now and she has a good job with a great company but some people will never be happy. I begun checking the bag to make sure the receipt was in the bag and she again spoke up saying I did not need to check because she knows she put the receipt in the bag. I believed her. However, when I got home, the receipt was not in the bag. I do not know her name but the purchase was around 11:00AM . The reason I don't know the exact time is because I received no receipt after asking for one. I had never been treated with so much condescension, rudeness, and disregard at this ABC store or any other ABC Store. I wish I had gotten her name to report her directly. We have spent thousands or more at this ABC store and because of this one woman, I will never go back and I will recommend everyone I know to avoid this ABC store. The ABC store in mountain Brook is much better with much kinder workers. This woman who checked me out this morning, ruined my day and is causing me to write my first negative review. I don't think it is ABC beverages fault, I think this woman is someone incapable of love or kindness. She ruined my day, made the ABC beverage brand look bad, and purposefully made me feel uncomfortable and stupid when she was the one who was in the wrong. I leave reviews often but this is my first negative review. I will pray she takes this to heart and works to become a better person and employee.
