Not a bad little store. They have tried to get as much variety into a small space that they can. Might be better to open it up a little and get rid of some of the stuff that doesn't sell as well. However, we did find what we were looking for for the most part. Hubby was thrilled to see that they had Angry O on tap so of course we had to buy a growler. For that reason alone, I'm sure we will be back.

So first I have to say if it isn't an ABC it's going to be exceptionally hard to score higher than a 3-star review. Reasoning behind that is you can anticipate that the price for anything you are going to buy here to run @ a minimum of 1/3 higher than ABC. That being said this place isn't bad. They offer some things that you aren't going to be able to find at an ABC. For example they have a large selection of beer including some on tap. They offer growlers (for purchase) then you can bring them back and get them filled with your favorites. The selection here is good, but it is a very crowded store. They are good at carrying seasonal items as well as any of the whiskey, vodka, tequila, etc that you would be able to get at any other typical liquor store. I actually have only interacted with staff on one occasion and that's when I was checking out. So not positive how they are when it comes to getting growlers refilled or helping on the floor to find something if you need help. If I'm in the area I wouldn't hesitate to return here to grab something. Just expect to pay a few bucks more.

I'm a bar snob. I admit it. Blame it on Austin and my beer sensei, Q. It's a stone cold fact. So when my buddy Wes mentioned stopping by the Hookah Bar I was dubious. A hookah bar? In bham? He said there were fifty beers on tap and I thought, "Bring it buddy. Let's see what my old hometown can deliver." Consider me served. The entrance is in a back alley behind the old Western supermarket on Highland Ave on the Southside. No joke, this is the secret back entrance in the alley behind the liquor store. There were two bouncers and a security guard at the entrance so I'm going to assume it was all legal. There actually were 50 beers on tap. The taps aren't at the bar, they're in another room, but they show you a menu and will tell you about any new beers not on the list. I chose two local brews. Avondale Miss Fancy Triple - a crazy tasty 10.5% sweet little malty number on tap and Good People Snake Handler double IPA - a slightly hoppy 9% punch in a bottle. I'd stake Miss Fancy Triple with any of the malty favorites I've met in Austin honestly. So two thumbs up for the beer. I don't smoke either cigars or hookahs so I can't really say how I feel about that. Other people with hookahs seemed satisfied and my friends were happy they could smoke inside a bar. Love the atmosphere. Nice mellow old school jazz. Really casual but not divey. Comfy sofas. The people who work there are clearly happy with their jobs and eager to please. This is a seriously undiscovered gem in the ham. Don't spoil it, just enjoy it and make sure they stay in business till I can visit bham again. Thanks Wes!

I believe the owner of this package store is trying to set a record for having the most expansive inventory of booze ever assembled on planet Earth. From draft beers to bottles or cans, if you can't find what you're looking for here then I honestly don't know what to tell you. The wine and liquor selection is also quite substantial. Mixers, gift sets, a variety of interesting things on the front counter from corkscrews to bottle openers to lighters, cigarettes, etc...they've pretty much got it all. I've been coming and going from this place since they first opened the doors, and the staff remains the same. The owner is the quintessential friendly shop owner who has the most positive attitude and is always so friendly with everyone that it really makes the place stand out. If I just needed a pack of smokes and there were 3 places on the street to buy them, I'd buy them here just to pop in and say hi to this guy. They're also open late...so if you find that you're out of beer and running out of places that are open and selling it, then give them a shot. If its legal to be open and selling beer, then they usually are. What more could you ask from a package store? 5 stars.

    4 hose for 35$

Small place and hard to find parking. Behind its' packaged store in an alley and it was a $5 cover charge for a Saturday night. 6 of us went and ordered 4 hose hookah. Had 4 bud lights and 4 mic ultras and a glass of angry orchard all for $73. Sat down and waited for about 10 min before a waitress came over. Mind you that there were several empty seats in the house and the place is small. We were there for 1.5 hours and NOT ONCE after we got our pipe and drinks did a waitress come by to check on us. Tongs weren't provided to flip coals so we had to improvise and use their paper coasters. We had to get up and go to the bar and get our second round of drinks which I carried back to our table. Summary: something neat to try if you've haven't done so before but be prepared to bus your own tables and get your own drinks We left a 5.25 tip for the non-customer service at a bar/ lounge.

She is basically a librarian of beverages. Her knowledge runs deep and she genuinely knows the story, flavor profile, and use for just about every bottle in the shop. Conversations here feel natural and educational, not salesy. A quick heads up for anyone not from Alabama, the state government makes things messy when it comes to alcohol taxes and pricing. That is not on Lenell. She clearly does her best to keep prices reasonable, but the regulations and taxes make it challenging. Knowing that, the value is still there when you look at the quality and uniqueness of the selection. And the selection is what really stands out. It is curated, thoughtful, and downright impressive. I was able to pick up several bottles I have never seen before anywhere else. This is not a grab a bottle and leave type of store. This is a browse, ask questions, discover something new kind of place. If you enjoy unique spirits, interesting bottles, and talking to someone who truly knows their craft, Lenell's is absolutely worth the visit. I am really glad I stopped in and would not hesitate to come back next time I am in Birmingham.

The lady who owns the place has done a fantastic job at curating a remarkable selection of things that you're going to want to try. The vibes are cozy and the decor interesting. The price points span a good range so there's something for everyone. Definitely check out the wine specials. I picked up a dozen assorted bottles to fill up a wine rack that had gone empty, and I was able to do that for what turned out to be less than expected. Will definitely be returning once I need to do that again. Aside from the interesting selection of bottles and the friendly vibes, it's also cool to see new and quirky businesses popping up in areas that are undergoing a revitalization. You love to see it. Long story short this is a very cool spot that you should make it a point to visit. Take the wine lover in your life and let them marvel at the unique selection. Check out the wide array of gins in the bathtub up front. Spend some time browsing the shelves and you might find something you didn't expect to find. Great spot. Local owner. Cool vibes. Interesting selection of things that you might not see everywhere. Go there and check it out for yourself. You'll love it.

There is not enough of a discount for the pre-sales to take the risk of inclement weather as absolutely no refund is offered. That would be okay if the "organizers" did some planning and made arrangements for rain. But no, they have outside tables with no cover so these tables are useless if it rains or is very hot as was the case in 2013. You end up standing in line for measly offerings of food and then stand to eat. There are no facilities in the event itself to go relieve yourself of consumed beverages. Why not expand the area for the restaurants? This is a real charlie foxtrot. Nobody can walk by, the lines are ridiculously long and when it rains, it is just a massive jam. If you are going to take my money and offer no refund, you need to plan for rain, very hot weather and other contingencies. The portions are small, usually cold and unappetizing. You can go to a good restaurant for the money and not have to put up with all the inconvenience. We will not go back until better planning is initiated. I would recommend taking this event off your future plans. I came home wet, aggravated, disappointed and feeling like my pocket had been picked. No, no, just no. If you want to be miserable, go. Otherwise, go somewhere else. IMHO, this is the kind of event that needs to go out of business.
