Monday Night Brewing - Social Club

For being a brewery technically based out of Atlanta, Monday night really knows how to emphasize on…read morethe Birmingham community. This isn't just a brewery but it's an event space for things like young professional meetups, drag shows, puzzle nights and trivia, fun runs etc... It can be hard to decide where you want to sit after coming in as you go through the laid back patio (although the trains are sometimes loud) or inside where you're greeted with neon lights and retro futuristic vibes. Just like the beer, there is no bad option. There are many beers to choose from, which are frequently rotating but no worries, some of the fan favorites like Dr. Robot are constantly on tap. There are beers made specifically for the Birmingham location as well. If beer isn't your thing there are Margaritas and cocktails. There's also plenty of food. The tacos aren't going to win over my Abuela's heart but they are serviceable. I typically go with the nachos though. I always hear how good the Patty Melt but every time I go to order one they are out of hamburger patties. There is almost always something going on, or some type of happy hour/deal. Any night is a good night at Monday night!

After looking around I ended the trip with a Taco Tuesday beer and some chips and salsa. The bartenders were friendly and gave some great recommendations. I always love coming here. Love Back Forty, along with the rest of Birmingham. There's always so much going on here,…read moreespecially when the weather is good. Tons of kids and dogs outside. People often host their own little parties and events at the picnic tables here. I came on a Sunday afternoon, and it seemed like a lot of families came for lunch and to hang out after church. The food here is certainly impressive food for a bar to me. I love the wood fired pizzas. I will say, I think the size is a bit awkward. They're a little too big to be a single serving, and a little too small to be for two people. The beer is all good. Service at the bar always friendly. The fries here are some of my favorite in town. Shoestring.

They've got a huge selection of beers and a full dinner menu, so there's something for just about everyone. Whether you're coming for drinks or planning to eat, you won't feel limited. Parking is plentiful, which is always a win in Birmingham, and there's plenty of seating both indoors and outdoors. It works well for small groups or larger parties. One thing to know going in: this isn't really a full-service setup. You order and pick up your own food, and aside from someone occasionally clearing empty pint glasses, there's not much table service. We actually didn't receive utensils with our food and had to go back up to the counter to grab some. Not a huge deal, just something to be aware of. I ordered the catfish sandwich with fries. The sandwich itself was delicious -- crispy, flavorful, and satisfying. My only small gripe was that it came in a to-go box. I understand it probably makes cleanup easier for them, but it does take away a bit from the dine-in experience. The fries were shoestring style, which just aren't my personal favorite. They're fine, but I always feel like I need about three handfuls to feel satisfied. We went on a Saturday night and the brewery was packed -- and I mean packed. It was very loud and definitely more of a party atmosphere than a relaxing dinner vibe. If you're looking for a quiet night out, this probably isn't it. But if you want energy, beer, sports on TV, and a fun crowd, this place delivers. Overall, it's a great hangout spot to catch a game, grab a drink, and enjoy good food -- just expect a lively, high-energy scene.

They had some barstools, but for the most part Avondale is BYO chair. I brought a towel to sit on. The upper deck was nice because it was shady on a hot day. Then, you're only one flight of stairs away from the bar right below. Avondale makes great beers. I had a Sour Pash, one of my favs, and a couple cans of Porch Light, made by Cahaba Brewing's company. In addition to great beers and drinks, I was hungry for some food. The nearly always have 1-3 food trucks parked right on the lawn, and they offer Miracle Pizza now! I ordered from a QR code inside, and Miracle brought the pizza over from right next door. It was delicious, too! They make a great pizza. It was fairly empty when we got here at 11:30, but by 3:30 it was buzzing with SEC fans of all teams. This is a great spot to watch Saturday football, especially as the weather cools off. Oh, and did I mention? Dog friendly :)

Food is an area they could work on. The food truck on sight was serving Philly cheese stakes and nachos. Something to take note of is who gets on the big screen. The only problem is it's hard for them to get a rare temperature on their extra thin steaks. Love the butter sauce they cover the potatoes, vegetables and steak in. Also Applebee's lack bread on their menu unless the pasta is ordered. Anyway, I sat at the end of the bar at "Club Applebee's" and made my order with the bartender. Unfortunately everyone was grieving the untimely death of a friend. I remember her from previous visits and dropped cash in the displayed jar in her memory. Even though I say I no longer drink, there's one exception to that rule. Applebee's Top Shelf Margarita was and still is my favorite cocktail. Once I was told the kitchen was running behind because of lack of experience line cooks, that was enough for me to have a drink as I waited and people watch. The music was thumping like no other Applebee's I've visited in any state! To my pleasure it was a great jazz channel. Some of the same regulars were in the same stools they were in the last time I was there years ago. By the time I returned from the facilities a chilled salt rimmed glass with olives was next to my shaker of margarita. I wish I knew their recipe because for all my efforts I can't make a margarita as great as Applebee's! This one didn't disappoint my memories either. Kudus to the bartender. I would suggest a sociologist PH.D candidate sit at that bar to investigate the mating ritual of that crowd. I have enjoyed watching so much a few times, my order got cold and I switched to ice tea in my shaker. Anyway, I enjoyed my order from Club Applebees. The steak was more Med than Rare as I ordered. The potatoes were crispy and full of the butter sauce at the same time. For once I received the extra onions and mushrooms I paid for and requested. They accidentally put someone else's salad in my bag even though it had extra blue cheese dressing that I couldn't use because I really dislike it. My order was perfect to enjoy with my feet up as I watched Top Chef. The people watching didn't disappoint nor did the music bother me. All in it was a great experience one can't get at any other Club Applebees because all other stores are just restaurants instead of a local joint like that one. If I was younger, was really a drinker and not concerned about getting a DUI, I might be a regular plopped on a bar stool being watched instead of the watcher.
