As soon as we walked in, we were greeted with an enthusiastic hello. The place is very clean! The menu is pretty large and written clearly on the wall. Priced just right, in my humble opinion, for the great experience. We got our own drinks and were brought sauces right away. I think we received our order within 5 mins, if that. I ordered the turkey platter with French fries and applesauce. The turkey was so tender, absolute perfection! The fries were crispy and barely salted - but win! I'm a sucker for a great applesauce and Sawmill wins -- chunky and unsweetened. Amazing food, all around. My dad loved his BBQ pork, fried okra & baked beans. My sister complimented the delicious beef brisket several times as the best she's had. She loved the baked beans and green beans. Such a wonderful dining experience and really a cool place. I'm also impressed with the cleanliness - if you look up at the decor above you on the beams, not only is it super cool and vintage, but clean; not a cobweb in sight. Hello This is one interesting area and place. They have pretty good Bbq. I had a two choice platter. It could have fed 2. But I am a champion and conquer the food. :). Brisket was tender but i felt a little dry. The ribs are holy ribs. Tender and very beefy! Oops I should say porky. Lots of meat on them! They have 4 different sauces to choose from. The ambience is very country and fitting the location. Not fancy but an experience. I gave a 4 for the ribs, potato salad, sauces and experience. I almost went a 3 because of canned green beans. Go enjoy and get stuffed. There is a camper site right behind the place. Maybe bring a camper, eat a ton and pass out in a food coma! read more

Ok I have to do this and I hope whoever smokes/grill/bbq at Sawmill in Sauget,IL location sees this. The first thing I ever ate from this place was a pork steak. I was so excited to bite into that huge slab of meat only to find out it was dry. Not a little dry either. I was disappointed. As someone who also smokes/grill/bbq I was very disappointed. I heard all great things about this place and still do. I let the pork steak go and decided to give em another try. This time I got wings. Very dry! How can someone mess up wings that small? I gave 2 stars because I do like the flavor profile of the food itself. Also I like the sauces. (not the bbq sauce. That was also nasty) I hope things change because like I said the flavor is there but the love isn't. read more

I visited your restaurant on October 27th and ordered five meals. Unfortunately, one of the meals--a Philly Brisket--contained hair tangled within the food. While I understand that mistakes can occur, this was unacceptable. My company and I are regular customers who frequently place both catering and lunch orders with your establishment. Because the meal was inedible, I requested a refund. I was informed that a refund would not be issued and that my only option was to have the same meal remade. I found this response unreasonable, as no customer should be expected to accept a replacement of the same dish that was previously contaminated. When I requested a different replacement meal instead, I was again told no accommodation could be made. I returned the meal with the hair intact and asked to review the written refund policy; however, none was provided or displayed. Due to the lack of willingness to offer an appropriate resolution, I declined the offer to remake the same item and informed the employee that I would dispute the charge once it posted if no resolution was reached. Typically, restaurants address such situations with understanding and professionalism--offering a refund, store credit, or an alternative meal of the customer's choosing. None of these reasonable options were extended to me, leaving the matter unresolved. As no refund has been issued, I am now taking further action by filing complaints with the Illinois Department of Public Health, the Better Business Bureau of Illinois, and the Illinois Attorney General's Office under the Consumer Fraud and Deceptive Business Practices Act (815 ILCS 505/2). A refund policy was mentioned by staff, yet none was visibly posted or produced upon request. The absence of a clearly displayed and accessible refund policy constitutes deceptive practice under Illinois law. read more

Me and my husband have recently started staying at the RV park adjacent to this place and the front office told us we get 10% off for staying at this campground. So that was intriguing enough for us to want to try it out. I'm not a huge BBQ fan but i do enjoy brisket every once in a while when my dad cooks it at his house. Sorry dad, but this is honestly the best brisket I've tasted! Super moist and flavorful. My picky husband even found it to be just as good. Giant portions too! Customer service 10/10. Stayed at the RV park next to this place and we could smell it as soon as we pulled up. Very clean place. Staff is super friendly and caring. She had the brisket salad and I had a two meat plate (ribs and chicken wings) with fries and baked beans. They had a variety of different house made bbq sauces. We tried them all and they were very different and all great. We washed entering down with a couple bottles of the local favorite, Fitz's root beer. Very tasty meal all around!! We were just passing through from far away so I don't know if we will be back, but it DEFINITELY made a lasting impression!! read more

Delicious! I'm not typically a BBQ fan but my husband is and he wanted to go. He got the 3 meat platter and I sampled his. The brisket with the white BBQ sauce (I believe a horseradish mix) was fabulous and so were the baked beans. My husband loved everything else. I personally ordered the pretzel bites with beer cheese as my meal - let me say these have been my favorite pretzel bites ever! Not 100% traditional Cuban more like their version of the sandwich. It had plenty of meat on it and instead of regular mustard they had mustard bbq. If you are wanting some pretty good BBQ near downtown St. Louis, this is the place you want to try. My wife and I met our in-laws for a quick bite to eat at the Sawmill. We have been going to this place now for about 4 years. Tonight I went with their 1/2 chicken special. I'll tell you I'm glad I did. The chicken was cooked perfectly, moist and smoky delicious. My mouth is watering while writing this review. I ended up trying the mac and cheese jalapeño poppers and the fried okra as my sides. All the food was really good comfort food. They have 4 different flavors of BBQ sauce. I would recommend getting samples of each one. You will end up dipping your fried okra in the white sauce while dipping the rest of your food in the other 3 sauces. You can't go wrong with any of their sauces. My wife ended up with a turkey sandwich with a double order of green beans. My wife mentioned that her food tasted really good too. Both my wife and I went with their fresh brewed tea. I like mixing sweet and non sweet tea to balance it out. Their tea is pretty good too. Overall, the food and service experience from the Saw Mill was good and we have not had a bad experience yet and I recommend this restaurant. The brisket was not dry or too fatty, and I favored it over the turkey. We had baked beans and green beans for our sides and both were good. One of the few restaurants I frequent in Cahokia since it's close to work. The service is friendly and the food comes out pretty quickly. You order at the counter and get your drinks right away. Then you get your utensils and find a seat in the restaurant. There isn't a number they give you or any sort of pager, they just remember who ordered what and will hunt you down. During lunch, it's never terribly busy that you can always find a parking spot or a seat in the restaurant. Though there are times the line may be long with the big lunch rush, but the line moves rather quickly. The food is pretty good, not the best BBQ I've had but it'll definitely hit the spot if you have a BBQ craving. I normally get their smoked wings platter that comes with two sides. I've had the homemade chips, mac n cheese bites, fries, and sweet potato fries. My favorite being the homemade chips. They give you a pretty good amount of food, so you'll definitely be up for a nap after the meal. It's pretty decent for the area. I would give it a try of you find yourself in Cahokia. read more

I drove past this place for quite a while. It is at the entrance of a RV park, which always deterred me. I quit eating fast food, unless there is no other option. Cahokia has nothing but fast food for the most part. I finally gave it a try, what a hit! This place is better than Bandana's and Pappy's(which did not impress me). The baked beans are delicious. The pulled pork was normal for a good bbq place. The brisket was moist and tender. Not as much smoke flavor as I prefer but was good. The baked beans were rich and good. I enjoyed the meal. Never heard of Sawmill until a few months ago. We actually came for a work lunchtime get together. Seating is a little limited but the food is really tasty. We had BBQ nachos, which are served on potato chips instead of tortilla chips. OMG!!They were sooo good. I hated that there were coworkers around to share with.
