I just recently found this location and am so glad I did. We've been there a few times and tired a variety of different menu options. The Pad Thai is the go to option. The roast duck curry has such a delicious curry sauce with it, I almost want to be able have a bowl of just the curry. As others have mentioned, the spring rolls are fresh with a nice peanut dipping sauce. The Laab is another usual order along with the Thai Beef Jerky and Tod Gratiam Prig Thai with pork. You can order how ever spicy you want and they have online ordering too. The only thing I didn't like was the spice level seemed to vary depending on when we ordered it and what the chef considers mild or medium. With how close it is to home it has become my to go to place for yummy Thai food. Don't let the strip mall location scare you. There's also a lunch buffet which I haven't tried. read more

My only other experience dining at a Sawatdee was in St. Cloud years ago and though I don't remember it very well I do remember I wasn't impressed. Perhaps its why it took me years to go back to one. My gf told me about this location and she recommended it after dining here with one of her friends. So we rolled up on this joint with ravenous appetites and the desire to melt the plastic in my wallet. Started off with spring rolls. HOLY F#!% that was some good stuff. I didn't care for the peanut sauce all that much, wayyyyyy too sweet so I just ate it naked. Could have just gotten a few orders of them things and been satisfied! I ordered pad thai, she ordered red curry with chicken. We shared. I really liked the pad thai. I usually shy away from ordering this dish because so many thai places make it so damn greasy. Not the case here. It was delicious. I got it with pork, and there was def no shortage of meat. I like that. I really liked the curry too. The taste was so mild and smooth. The last little bit my gf and I had a spoon sword fight to see who would get it. She won, doh! We scarfed that stuff down. Heat level was very good too. Both dishes a little over 10 bucks ea and the spring rolls 6.5 bucks. My plastic didn't melt, and had a delicious meal. Can't complain about that at all. The other reviews are correct. While this is not at all a bad thai restaurant, it does not have the same charm as the St. Paul location, with its colorful walls and friendly staff. The recipes also taste slightly different than the other locations, such as the spring roll sauce- much more sweet. Solid thai, just a different zibe. read more

Extremely poor customer service! Came here on a Friday night and was seated right away but it took over 10 minutes before the server acknowledged us (the resturant wasn't that busy). We had to actually ask for water. We ordered fresh vegetarian spring rolls, beef spring rolls (deep fried), Thai style beef jerky, and Thai fried rice. The fresh spring rolls came out within a few minutes but they were pork and not vegetarian so we had to send back. After about 10 more minutes we got the beef spring rolls and Thai beef jerky. They only managed to give us one fork and one napkin even though there was two of us. The Thai beef jerky was very salty and the meat was overcooked. The beef sping rolls were decent but the fresh spring rolls never came. The fried rice took about 40 minutes to finally come out and was salty and oily. Awful!! Without a doubt the worst Thai food I've ever had. Papaya salad inedible it was so salty. Red and green curry both tasted like it had warmed in the microwave, thin, watery - blah. We went with the Massaman Curry (chicken), Holy Basil (chicken), Sue's Egg rolls, and cream cheese puffs. Everything was fantastic but I think the curry was the best of the bunch. We did a Medium (3/5) spice level for both dishes and it was just right for us - but yes, SPICY. If you don't like spicy food or are feeding kids you may want to stick to the lowest spice level. Delicious food! My family and stayed at the great wolf lodge water park and decided to give Sawatdee a try. I'm so glad we did. Delicious food and service was excellent. I enjoy Thai food in general, so I was happy to find this place near to where I work. The service is very good with very nice and engaging staff. The curries here are tasty but they love hot peppers, so a medium in my book translates to "low-medium" to them. And their Thai iced tea is super yummy too. read more

The is not a real Thai restaurant. It is an Americanized Thai restaurant. All the food is flavorless and lacking any key elements of good tasting Thai food. If you are Asian, just skip this place because you will be disappointed. I ordered duck, papaya salad and soup. All of it was plain. It need more fish sauce, salt, lime, pepper and any ingredient used for Thai food. The service was polite, but super slow. This has been a staple of my team since our Helpdesk guy brought us here. The flavor is magnificent. I've only joined them for lunch (like most of my reviews), but the Pad Thai is excellent and the people are very friendly and happy to have you there. The prices are spot on what I'd expect from a Thai Restaurant. The only reason its not 5 stars is typically I'm needing more water/soda refills than I receive and often leave thirsty. Definitely a favorite in bloomington. They have awesome chicken satay with a yummy cucumber sauce. Great fresh spring rolls, which is clearly a favorite of mine, yummy peanut sauce. They also had good sweet cream cheese puffs, which i always enjoy. Great pad thai, unfortunately not enough heat but im sure they'd be happy to change the order to your liking. Rama thai delight was always delicious. I always had it medium hot. Sweet and sour with vegetables was really good too! Ah what's not to like on their menu! I work close by and have not even had Thai food in my life before Sawatdee. I've had American Chinese food and that's about it. A Korean co-worker would always get this dish called "spicy noodles" that I would get with beef. I had an epiphany the first time I ate it. It wasn't cheap Chinese food like I had eaten my whole like. It was actually good, Flavorful, and had Depth! It had tomatoes and Basil which I thought were only for Italian dishes! I was NOT ready for the spice. I will warn you now if you are spice nieve go with the mild and explain to them you want it mild. I ordered an order of my now favorite dish holy basil supreme with beef and they accidentally made it extra hot, and I literally couldn't eat it. My co-worker thought I was being a baby. It was funny to see him come back in nearly in tears saying he was going to take it back and get it replaced. Which he did, and they made a new one for him. He did say whoever helped him at Sawatdee said there was waaaaaaay too much red chili peppers floating around in that stock, and that it was a mistake. So ever since my co-worker turned me onto Sawatdee its opened my eyes a lot to Thai, and Asian cooking. Even Since I've Ate at Sawatdee I've Dusted off the ol' wok I've used once, and literally, have been learning the last six months how to cook with it and trying different dishes. I have my coworker and Sawatdee's delicious Menu to thanks for opening my horizons a lot to other foods. I recommend the Holy Basil Supreme To anyone. My two other co-workers one of whom is even more closed off to world foods than I was by far, now orders Holy Basil except she gets chicken while I get beef, and my other co-worker gets the pad see yew because he doesn't like onion..... I know right! who doesn't like onion! But we All order from them some times multiple times a week for lunch carryout. You know its good when a couple of mid-20s and early 30s-year-olds who don't make great money but can fork out 15 bucks for lunch twice a week when the cheap fast food is just as close, shows that Sawatdee is that good. I am obsessed with spicy food and have tried about a dozen Thai places around the twin cities and about a dozen random other places due to business travel. At pretty much every place I get a moderately spiced Pad Thai and HANDS DOWN Sawatdee in Bloomington is my favorite. I even like the food here more than the downtown location. Service, quality and food temp has always been great whether I dine in or take out. I am really quite amazed that they have such a low rating on here...I've frequented a few other places that rated a bit higher on yelp and I just flat out disagree. So, as far as Pad Thai is concerned, I would recommend this place without any hesitation. Yes, it is in a strip mall and no, the atmosphere is nothing comparable to places like Kincaid's but this is a Thai restaurant in Bloomington MN folks. I can tell you that the atmosphere and cleanliness blow the socks off of 98% of the Chinese places I've ever been to. Bottom line: It's clean, fast, convenient and absolutely the best Thai I've found in the Twin Cities metro. read more

Have visited this place couple of times and must say their Thai Curry fried rice is one of the best I had there.Have tried their curries as well which are just average,Green curry is quite sweet and Red is ok. Spicy noodles are good but you have to ask for spice level little high i.e 3.5-4 , if you have indian tooth otherwise you get lil sweet taste with veggie noodles. For next time, planning to give a shot to mango sticky rice with hope to find a good taste. Staff is really good there too. read more

Love this place. Glad I discovered this gem tucked away in a strip mall in Bloomington. I've eaten at the Sawatdee in Downtown Minneapolis numerous times over the years and thought that was the only one around. Really nice employees and fantastic service. generous portions and a fair price for extremely delicious food. Have eaten in and gotten take out. Both great experiences. My favorites- Fresh Spring Rolls- Perfect amount of noodles, meat and veg in these. With the accompanying dipping sauce rounding out the flavors nicely. 2 per order. Chicken Satay- just the right amount of Curry on these perfectly prepared sticks of white meat chicken. The peanut dipping sauce is right on the money and the sweet pickle condiment also adds to the overall perfect balance of flavors. 6 skewers per serving Chicken Pad Tai- I'm a noodle lover and this is one of my favorite dishes. I like it about a 2 on the hotness level. just hot enough, but not enough to make your head sweat. Which if you go to a three on the hotness level will probably happen. You can also get a side of the chili sauce on the side if you want to control the hotness level. Large enough portion to have some for another meal. ENJOY! read more

I ordered Tom Yum soup and must have ordered a bowl instead of a cup, as it cost more than my entree. Actually, more deserving of 0 of 5 stars. After having been to other Sawatdee restaurants, this was VERY disappointing. We took one bite of our meals and had enough. First time at this location (Usually go to MG location). I order the chicken pad thai w/ the spice level of mild to medium. Very delicious yet spicy! For spice level ratings from 1-5. I got 3. To anyone who doesn't like spicy much, i suggust you get maybe 2 or 1. The portions were good. I also tried the cream cheese wontons, very good and not too sweet! I would come back again.
