Honestly I think this place has gotten a bad rap for whatever reason but it's the most authentic Thai I've had in my time in Augusta and I'm a Thai food snob! I got the spring rolls and fantasy fried rice. Originally they accidentally gave me the curry puffs instead of the spring rolls and I honestly liked those better than the spring rolls! They were super kind in correcting my order. The spring rolls were a little lacking in flavor but the fried rice REALLY made up for that. I got it with Thai basil and baby corn. I also asked for it to be in the middle of medium and Thai hot. As soon as I walked into a place that had actual Thai people working I knew that I probably should have gotten just the medium hahha. My wife and I visited Sawasdee for lunch on a Tuesday. Plenty of available parking and it wasn't too crowded. Loved the cute decor inside! I ordered the Pad Thai, which was recommended by our very kind server, and my wife had the Thai green curry, our go-to dish at Thai restaurants. Both were plentiful and tasty. The Thai hot spice level on the Pad Thai was actually quite spicy, and I'm a person who enjoys high levels of heat. We also had some veggie spring rolls which were fine. Literally my favorite little restaurant in Augusta of all time. We go every time we are in town and the service and food is all so good. Most people order takeout, but dine in is certainly available. Disappointed in yesterday's takeout order. The spring rolls were half the size of what they used to be and there was one half of one small shrimp in them where there used to be 3 large shrimp and a large Thai basil leaf. The fried wontons had less than a half of a teaspoon of meat in each of them. The bean thread salad was supposed to have shrimp and another protein - maybe 2 very tiny pieces of chicken and there was no cilantro. I came here for a late lunch with a friend. This place was highly recommended but I kept my expectations low as Thai can be a hit or miss. We got the massaman curry and pad kee mow (drunken noodles). The massman curry was mediocre; the pineapples weren't sweet so the blandness took away from the flavor. The drunken noodles however were enjoyable to eat and properly spiced for Thai spice level. The good: Service was nice, timely. Food tasted good, not amazing, but good. The bad: the portions were EXTREMELY small. Like less than a lunch portion at other restaurants. And pricy for how much you receive. I got the chilli duck. It did NOT look like the picture. The picture had a ton of duck on it with all the fixings. What I received was what looked like boiled duck slices, not roasted and I swear there was like 8 small slices on the plate with mostly onions and bell peppers. I took a picture after I ate one slice cause it was so crazy small to me. Especially with paying I think 18$ for it. I ordered mild and there was no spice in it. I had my family with me and all of the plates were small portions. We bought the rice with all the meat in it and there was 2 pieces of shrimp in the whole thing, 5 pieces of small beef and like 3 small pieces of chicken. A bit was taken before that photo as well, but that's it. The rice was prolly the best tasting thing, really good. Again wish there was more of it. We got it to share, it was way too small to. My daughter ordered the yellow curry which had hard and uncooked in the middle potatoes. And tiny little pieces of chicken in it. Taste of the actual curry was good though. There was more onion than chicken and potatoes. Dry crunchy if you like that. My husband got the beef dish, he said it tasted like beef and broccoli, and again barely any meat. Not bad, just not what he was expecting. We paid 77$ plus tip. It was maybe worth 35$ to me. 77$ in this economy is crazy for those portions. I was introduced to this restaurant at the Arts in the Heart of Augusta. At the festival they had the Thai food tent. Every day I would order Thai tea, mango and sticky rice, as well as pad thai, which is one of my all-time favorite foods. After learning that they had an actual restaurant, I vowed that I would stop by to try them out. One evening went in the area. I stopped at the restaurant and I feel like I ordered the entire menu. Lol. I ordered chicken pad Thai , egg rolls, mango and sticky rice, taro and sticky rice, and Thai tea. It was all top-tier. I enjoyed every bite of everything that i had to eat it slowly to savor the flavor. Absolutely amazing place with a wonderfully quiet atmosphere. Just moved from Miami Florida, and the Thai food there was very good but they never could satisfy my spice tolerance. This place definitely knows what spice is so be careful what you ask for. Food was super fresh and delicious I got the crispy duck with chili, the green curry, the pork stuffed chicken wings, pad Thai and fried bananas. I visit Augusta about twice a month and was thrilled to finally find a solid Thai spot--this place has become my go-to. If you're looking for great Thai food, I'd definitely recommend it. I always order the tom kha chicken (coconut) soup and pad Thai, and both are consistently delicious, meeting all my expectations. Our server took the time to explain various dishes and give recommendations based on our preferences. We were very pleased with her suggestions. I absolutely loved the drunken noodles, very flavorful with the perfect amount of spice. My husband had the Thai basil koa pad and it was also delicious. It had a very smoky robust flavor. The only let down for us were the sausage stuffed wings. They were good, but we have previously been spoiled by much larger Hmong style stuffed wings that fill the whole flat portion with stuffing so these just seemed small to us. I went to this place hoping to have some good Thai food. The entire experience was disappointing- the server had no smile and was holding on to the corner of my menu while I was still looking over it...she was in such a rush. ( there were only 4 other occupied tables - it was not busy) The spring rolls were all dough and hardly any filling. The soup tasted as if it came out of a can and the vegetables that they used were most definitely frozen. I was hoping at least my entree would be somewhat palatable...big assumptions.... I had ordered something very simple, Pad Thai - which is a very simple dish to make. It was awful. Zero flavor ... actually it had the flavor of spoiled shrimp. I absolutely did not continue eating this and asked for it to be removed. The server and "manager" got quite hostile. I tried to quietly explain to them that we were not satisfied with our food - they said we could just leave but we were FORCED to pay. ZERO CUSTOMER SERVICE. This is my absolute favorite Thai restaurant in Augusta My mother and I love coming here. Just ordered for my husband and I. It's a small business and the food is delicious! I love feeling like I'm walking into a different space. I appreciate that the names of the food are not altered, but that's my culturally curious nature talking. There are descriptions of food items and pictures if you're not familiar with Thai food. The food tastes authentic and I love the plating of the food. I don't have any complaints honestly. I come here as often as I can and when I'm craving a more homemade flavor, I come here. By the way, Ms. Vina is amazing. I always see her here. She works so hard in the front of the restaurant. Sawasdee is in a building attached to Wings Plus in the Carolina Pottery plaza. The restaurant is nice inside, but I ordered take out. The take out order only took 10 minutes to be ready. I ordered the cucumber salad and pad Thai. The pad Thai didn't taste authentic, but it was good enough. The portion was surprisingly small as well and I was worried I wouldn't be full, but after finishing the cucumber salad and pad Thai, I was satisfied. I enjoyed the salad, as it was a refreshing compliment to my pad Thai. This place is off of Washington Rd next to Wingstop. I am always searching for good Thai places. The restaurant didn't look so bad. The service was slow. However, the food came out very quickly. I ordered the fried dumplings, drunken noodle, and the Tom Yum Kai soup. The dumplings were perfect. The Tom Yum soup was good, but not quite perfect. It had an odd after taste that I didn't like. The drunken noodle had egg in it and pineapple which I don't remember being on the menu and I was not a fan of that. It took a while for them to bring me the check and then they saw I was ready to pay but I had get up and hand them the check. I think I will stick to my other Thai place I go to. read more

Less than one star really. I'm so disappointed in the experience we had at this restaurant today. We thought we would give it a try since we were in the area and the reviews looked okay. First the good part. We were seated right away by the waitstaff. They checked on us frequently while we decided what we wanted. It took less than 5 minutes to get our fried spring roll appetizer then we ordered our dinner choices at that point. The rolls were marginal. Just cabbage and carrot. The dinner came out in about 5 minutes which is a little alarming thinking about this now considering one was a stir fry dish with chicken. To start the cashew chicken had literally one tablespoon of actual chicken in it and 2 slivers of green peppers. There were a few onion pieces and some canned water chestnuts in an oily sauce and a cup of rice for 16.00. The other dish was the real issue. It was yum soon sen, bean thread salad of which I have eaten dozens and dozens of times all over the country. When it arrived the smell of sour spoiled fish permeated the area. I love GOOD fish sauce and this wasn't that. It was bad. The salad was a cup and a half of noodles onions a few pieces of tomatoes and some pork bits. The pork bits were dry and hard and tasted like spoiled meat and refrigerator air. I got the waitstaff's attention and politely told her the meat was spoiled and I wasn't going to eat it and didn't want anything else. We asked for the check and when it arrived we were told only 50% was taken off for the 16.00 dish that was inedible and that was policy. I told them that I didn't agree to pay for something inedible and could I speak to the manager. A woman came out with fire in her eyes. She told me we had to pay for what we ordered. I told her it was not edible and I didn't want to pay for spoiled food. She was argumentative and very upset and insisting that we pay that the food was fine and that I ate it. I told her I tasted a couple of small bites and couldn't eat any more than that it was rotten. She argued loudly with us making up things we said in front of the other guests over a cup and a half of literal scraps. The sad lack of respect and customer service was just completely upsetting and then she added we could never come back ! Did she honestly think we would step back in this place with service like this? I can only imagine what she will say after reading the review. I didn't even want to pay with a credit card because I didn't trust the owner. Thankfully I had cash. Save your time and money and go elsewhere. read more

I was in Augusta again today and was craving Thai so I decided to try Sawasdee. I almost left, there were only 2 people there when I arrived,it was 1:00 on a Friday! I decided to stay. Passing through and spent the night near Augusta and discovered this gem - and it was open on a Monday when others are closed. They were very busy - always a good sign - but food was prepared and delivered much faster than we anticipated. Both dishes were ordered Thai Hot and were the best we've had in a long, long time. The chef knows how to cook! I enjoyed a pot of hot ginger tea (the best I've had anywhere - it was so good!) and my husband discovered a Sapporo Black beer - which he now wants to find when we get home. Love this place for flavor and dinner. But would pass next time for lunch as the portions are very, very small. I had to order a second meal to not leave hungry. The first I ordered was a Pad Se Ew noodle meal and it was gone in 6 bites ( not exaggerating) and I'm a small women with a small to average appetite. So keep that that it in mind if you considering lunch. Lunch prices per meal are $8.95 each so it's not a inexpensive lunch but worth is if the portions were decent. Ours was over $32.00 + tip for two. Atmosphere is nice and quite dining with music playing and pretty floral decor. Service is was acceptable but not over the top. We ate here when the building was a sushi restaurant in 2004. I came to try the Thai food with my mom at lunch. She got the spicy shrimp salad and I got the pad woon sen noodle dish, and we both opted for the stuffed shrimp appetizer. The taste of both dishes was okay, but I was a little confused to find chunks of pineapple in the pad woon sen. Mom's spicy shrimp salad was also very heavy on the cilantro, so if you aren't an overwhelming fan, that's not the dish for you. Based on proportions, protein, price ($40.88 for two plus an appetizer - water to drink), and taste, we will probably try somewhere else next time. No complaints on service. read more
