Savoy is the perfect place to go if you want to chill and have some apps and cocktails. The owner was so awesome too. We have been about 5 times now and almost everyime we are asked how our experience is, if we're having a good time etc..it's refreshing to have someone actually care! The bartender Shannon is so sweet and very on point with her skills. The atmosphere is relaxed but still has a lot of energy and great crowd. Went yesterday for Fat Tuesday and had a great time. They had super happy hour specials on both food and drink. DJ was great! Bartenders were fast and made some cool stuff. Was going to bar hop but ended up just staying there for about 3 hours. Fun little spot for sure. As much as I hate to give this place 2 stars, Savoy could be a great restaurant, but instead it is crippled with incredibly poor execution. To start off the interior is well done and classy, and hence it attracts a well dressed Yuppie to classy Cougar type crowd. They have two dapper bartenders wielding gold plated shakers, and boasting a selection of classic cocktails like the French 75 and Sazerac (how Blanche DuBois). With a location in Allentown overlooking Elmwood this joint should be an instant recipe for success. So why when I arrived last night (a very rare beautiful Friday night with the sun shining at 8:00 pm.) was this place desolate when Cantina Loco was bursting at the seams? [I know loaded question] I'll tell you why...POOR EXECUTION!! Lets start with the cocktails: The bartenders use all the right ingredients, they even look like they are doing the same thing that the bartenders at Vera's and Mike A's are doing, but they are not as good. Pourqoui? Read my last review of Vera and maybe it will explain to you the difference. I'm guessing that the bartenders studied a Mr. Boston's and deemed themselves qualified to make anything contained therein. Any fool can put the proper ingredients in a shaker and shake, it takes the well trained hand of a seasoned mixologist, and the passion of a gin-blossomed alcoholic to take the drinks to the next level. However, that is merely philosopical, if you want a French 75 go there, it will taste like any other French 75 you get at any other mediocre bar. Of course when I ordered an Aviation last night, they were out of Creme de Violette and unable to make it for me. Poorly Stocked Bar with Overpriced Drinks: Mortal Sin #1. These guys are just not of the calibre of the real cocktail bars in town. Lets move on to the food shall we. My lovely Wife, trying to curb my dismal attitude last night (I might have been a bit hypo) rushed and ordered the Meat and Cheese Plate (not charcuterie mind you, big difference). While the cheeses were tasty (Manchengo, Brie and pistachio crusted goat cheese), the meats consisted of Prosciutto, Calabrese Salami, and SUMMER SAUSAGE??!? WTF!!! The only place summer sausage belongs is in a loft in Aspen while wearing a turtleneck, sporting a glorious moustache and sitting on a bear skinned rug in front of a fire, eating cheddar with a beautiful woman and a big freaking Moose staring at you in the window. It has no place with Italian Meats and cheeses!! EVER!! Serving Summer Sausage with Italian Cured Meats: Mortal Sin #2. Let us continue with the food. The menu is only snacks: salads, crostini and small baguette sandwiches. My Wife and I ordered two baquette sandwiches, mine was proscuitto with swiss, a sweet pepper relish, and whole grain mustard. My Wife ordered a pork tenderloin sandwich that was slathered in BBQ sauce (stay classy San Diego). She hated hers, mine was not bad. However, between the meat and cheese plate and the sandwiches, our waitress decided to wipe down our table with a wet rag like they do at Denny's leaving the table very moist. Mind you there was no mess on the table, except for the scant crumb. Complete bonehead move, but I will not blame a restaurant for their poor waiting staff (so I will not consider that the 3rd and final Mortal Sin). On that note, on to the third Mortal Sin. When we walked in Frank Sinatra was singing "I've Got You Under My Skin." That was soon followed up by Michael Buble (it was one of his pop songs, but it was Buble none-the-less). Later on the music degraded to The Foundations singing "Why Do You Build Me Up [Build Me Up] Buttercup" and continued on with its ilk. Dumb and Dumber! There you have it kids, Taking Crappy Classic Oldies to Get the Cougars Singing and Mixing them with Frank Sinatra: Mortal Sin #3. Savoy you have been officially written off in my book. They call themselves a cocktail bar but the bartender didn't know how to garnish a Tom Collins, that was after he asked me if I wanted vodka or gin in it. The only reason it got two stars and not one was that the drink was very good, after I told him how to make it. I will not be going here again. read more

when Savoy first opened, i have to say i was quite impressed, both with the unique and tasteful renovation of this formerly nondescript cinder block box near Allen St as well as the restaurant concept put forth by this new restaurateur. Savoy attempts to transport its customers to a lively, yet sophisticated Parisian cafe somewhere along the Left Bank, and its an honest attempt to be sure; though repeated visits (when i can actually get my cohorts to agree to a stop at Savoy) color me less and less impressed. let's begin with the space's interior: clean, sleek, and posh, though a little too sparse and cold. the wall length banquette is fantastic for seating opposite the bar, but when this small space fills up, not only does it become claustrophobic, the noise levels become deafening. also, without any drapery to soften the very large windows at the front of the restaurant, you will most certainly be blinded by the setting sun should you find yourself there at the dinner hour. and i hate to nitpick, but i'm a lover and student of design, so it is difficult for me to overlook the horrendous choice of cheap laminate wood to construct the entire bar area. while i know the renovations here might have cost a ton, i have to question WHY the owner would choose to use a LAMINATE wood to construct the largest focal point within the space?? it cheapens the interior greatly, and makes it look like the mass produced, 'mickey mouse' designs of chain hotels, or worse even, hospital room furniture... on to drinks: very creative cocktail menu, reminiscent of that golden era of Prohibition, when temperance bred alcoholic creativity. Savoy, like most of its cocktail pushing counterparts in the city, charges the average $10 a drink. makes for a very expensive evening. if you're a mixology purist or aficionado, you might not be impressed with the caliber of skill behind the bar (watch closely as they're mixing up your drink, you'll see what i mean), but let's be honest -- the average patron is not going to know or taste the difference. as for food: Savoy is not where you go to get a filet or a rack of lamb. true to the Parisian boulangerie concept, you will find small plates and creative baguette sandwiches here. on my first visit, i enjoyed a steak baguette with mushrooms and goat cheese that melted in my mouth, but the man's choice that evening was just 'eh'. its hit or miss here...most of what you see can be constructed quite simply from a walk through Wegman's. they claim to be known for their unique take on the deviled egg, but sitting and eating hard boiled eggs as i embark upon a night of drinking is not a wise decision in my book, so i steer clear. bottom line: i like Savoy, its a great addition to Allentown, and it is unique from the other bar options in that neighborhood. though, this very fact, in addition to some shoddy execution inside, may be what prevents Savoy from truly being a success -- its not catering to the regular Allentown denizens, and thus has relegated itself to a destination spot. Savoy has a bit of work to do before it becomes a destination in my book, so here's to hoping that they continue to use their first year to refine their operation and concept. read more

This is one of my favorite happy hour spots and always one of the first places I recommend. They have specials for their drinks (beer, wine and cocktails) and their appetizers. Their cheese plate is one of the better ones I've had. It's relatively simple but it works and is good. The staff are helpful and attentive. The location and overall vibe for the restaurant helps too. Parking in allentown is less than desirable but for happy hour I've always been able to find spots on the street so I don't even think twice when asked to go again! read more

It is a little small inside, so if you come on a night when it's packed, it might not be fun. However, the nights I have been there, it's always the perfect atmosphere - enough room at the bar, but not empty. There are always a good amount of people between the side tables and bar. Just recently I was there and sat at their little outdoor patio area. The bartenders are always friendly and attentive. Drinks are delicious and reasonably priced! I love Savoys and have recommended it to most of my friends and family. It's classy and comfortable at the same time.. The food is outstanding and made from all fresh upscale ingredients . Coming from the Southtowns, maybe two or three times a month, my wife and I always plan on hitting up Savoy. Love the atmosphere which cannot be found in any restaurant near my house in Orchard Park. So with that, and the drinks, it's worth the trip every time. read more

I went here on a date for 'Whiskey Wednesday,' held on the first Wednesday of each month. For $10 per person you can sample 3 different whiskeys (their choice of what kinds). We got a small table and shortly afterwards a gentleman came over with two glasses, a tasting notes card, and the first whiskey. He told us briefly about it and then left us alone to try the whiskey. He came right over after we had finished our first samples and provided us with our second samples, again telling us briefly about the whiskey. I was pleasantly surprised that they offered craft cocktails such as my favorite - a Moscow Mule! Most bars have never heard of this cocktail or they don't have ginger beer to make one. This place made a very tasty one in an actual copper mug - which is essential to keeping it nice and cold. It was delicious. The whiskey guy took a very long time to come over with the third whiskey, which was slightly irritating. But all in all it was a nice sampling of a variety of whiskeys and I liked Savoy. They have a nice menu, too, but I didn't eat anything so I can recommend what's good. This is a smallish place with limited seating, but it wasn't overly loud in there and it was a cute location for a date. You don't have to shout to your companion and it's a relaxed atmosphere. read more

Awesome little place on the strip. Cool menus with different fare than typical wings and spinach artichoke dip, which seems to be standard here. My only complaint is that there are so many hard surfaces, and it's so small, the sound bounces around like mad. Add some soft surfaces, like fabric draped over ceiling trusses, and that problem could be solved pretty easily. read more

Another stop on our Buffalo trip landed us at Savoy. We were in dire need of a good drink or 3 and we found them. I got a Lemon Blossom and he got a Sir Doyle, I may not get the name of the second drink but boy were they fantastic. They have a wonderful selection of cocktails, at first I was a bit skeptical of the price but they were oh so strong. Onto the food, in true ADD fashion we couldn't pick on just one thing so we decided try sandwiches, an app, and a cheese plate. We got the Tuna Nicoise and cheese plate to start. Both were very good. But the sandwiches, I got the Bourbon BBQ pork sandwich and he got the special that night a steak sandwich. They were sooooooooooo good. Both sandwiches were out of this world. I asked for a box to take half of mine home since I was full at this point. Poor sandwich didn't have a chance, it only lasted a few minutes in the car before I devoured the rest of it. Way too small and way too loud. Lots of suspicious activity taking place at the armoire in the men's bathroom. I'm sure that wasn't baby powder on the counter. Its restaurant should be dubbed a tapas / small plates bistro (to off set the small place). We also gave it a second try at an earlier time and still experienced the same. Buffalo has much better places to grab a drink and an app. The menu items have been done already in Buffalo. Its BORING! Would have been nice if they offered a small interesting and NEW menu.
