I didn't catch the name of the person bartending but they were very nice. I was offered a tasting pour of a particular option to "try before I buy". They ended up pouring a full pour (due to distraction) and I felt bad, so I paid for it & drank it anyway. (I suffered for it the rest of the evening, but that was my own fault, not the bartender.) I liked that the bathrooms are labeled all-gender and there seemed to be a decent amount of space in the back for events. I enjoyed one drink and left. I'd go back for an event or if the menu options piqued my interest. Seems to also be a convenient location for drinks before/after an event at the arena. Sorry for no photos this time. read more

About last night ... I went to the Grown Up Night of Play: Mixology in the Museum! At the Explore & More Museum. I came across the Lockhouse Distillery and stopped by their table. They did NOT disappoint!!! When I tell you they had two of the best tasting featured cocktails! The Caramel Cold Brew made with Lockhouse Coffee Liqueur and The Ginnamon Roll made their Cinnamon Gin AKA The Ginnamon!! Lockhouse Distillery is a unique bar located in the Cobblestone district. It would be a great place to go for cocktails and small bites before a Sabres game. I really love the bar room. It is sort of rustic with a copper bar and strings of lights hanging from the ceiling. I also liked the designs painted on the walls. The cocktails- oh my goodness. Some of the best I've ever had in my life. Their homemade vodka is so smooth. Last night, I ordered the Perfect Pear, which is a vodka cocktail made with local New York grown pears. Although I wanted to try a variety of cocktails, I ordered this one each time because it was so delicious! My friends also loved their Dirty Pop and Grapefruit Crush drinks. Lockhouse has a small menu of appetizers, paninis, flat bread pizzas and a cheese plate. My friends and I sampled several paninis and flatbreads. Everything was very good, but the Brie and Apple panini is in a league of its own. It is a must-try if you are at the distillery. One of the partners, Cory, was kind enough to give us a tour of the distillery. It was really interesting. He was very knowledgeable and friendly. My favorite part of the tour was sampling the jars of spices, fruits and vegetables. I was thrilled to learn that Lockhouse will be partnering with Public Espresso to release a coffee liqueur this December! I can't wait to try it! All around wonderful place with great people. My wife and I had come to Buffalo because we were going to a friends wedding. Came here because we found it on Yelp and we love a good cocktail bar. Once we came in the music was extremely loud to the point that we couldn't even scream in each others ear. We either had to point to the menu or text each other. Luckily the loudness was related to music and not just chaos but it was still something to note. I'm assuming that there was a DJ there that night or something because there were a ton of people with no sitting room. In my book that means it's a popular place! The drinks were fantastic and varied with the flavors offered but were 10 dollars a piece. This is not a place to end the night at. This is a place to begin the night and have one or two drinks at and then move to a cheaper place. Overall I would definitely go back for another taste at a cocktail but I would only go for one drink before going somewhere else. I hope to see you again soon Lockhouse! read more

This is one of my favorite places to go get drinks, especially after an event at the arena since it is within walking distance, comfortably. The staff is pleasant without being overbearing, and the cocktails are delicious. As a vodka fan, I feel like Lockhouse Vodka is some of the best on the market and I love that it is distilled locally. Their mules are perfect, and the copper cups are always a nice touch. I do wish there was more seating, but the barrels with the stools around them make for a cozy atmosphere, and I like the large murals on the wall, making for a simple but pleasant atmosphere. The all around aesthetic of this bar is amazing and is a great place for friends. For my 30th birthday, we called ahead to let them know that about 20 of 25 of us were about to head down in a party bus and they were more than happy to accommodate us, with shots! This is always on my list of night-out suggestions. read more

Lunch at the distillery! What a great idea. When Lockhouse moved to their new digs down in the cobblestone district they got a much larger space. Most of that space is taken up by the actual alcohol making process of course. That's why they moved, outgrew the other space. But they have made part of the new space into a bar as well. A real one, serving beer and wine along with "real drinks". All from the other side of a beautiful copper bar (to go with the copper stills I imagine). The bar also has some alcohols from other small batch distilleries. Very cool. The menu is limited to a few paninis, pizzas and perhaps a salad or two. So not extensive. And if you think you want to go there you can review the menu on their FB page. The lunch is served either at a seat at the bar or one of a few tables, which are high tables with comfortable stools. There weren't a lot of people when we were there so a single guy behind the bar handled it all. Shout out to Julie C who was game to try a new place, and to Alex L for suggesting it. Not normally a liquor person, but have heard good things so just had to check it out. I was not disappointed. Although tempted by the array of local beer on tap, I stuck to those beverages made with in house distilled gin & vodka. Things went well. Between my wife and I we were able to order a wide array of their drinks and were overall impressed. My favorite- the "dirty soda," it's seasonal so ever changing- currently "cherry chili lime." The layout is simple, but nice. A small bar area, a distillery, and an arcade game. The location is solid- near the arena- but parking is not. Also, I hate driving on cobblestone streets; they're nostalgic and all, but come on.. The crowd they draw is a good mix as well; not too strong on the hipster front as I had worried it would be. The hubs and I decided to check this place out as part of Yelp's Not So Random Acts of Kindness series which benefited Friends of The Night People. 20% of the bar bill was donated to the organization...which made the Happy Hour(s) that much happier! We've run into a few of the Lockhouse dudes at various events, picked their brains, and tasted their offerings; however, we had never actually visited their establishment. What an awesome thing they've got going on!! As their bar door states, "An Idea So Crazy, It Just Might Work!" Most of the Yelp events we have been to have featured local brews...I can't handle beer (it makes me poop funny lol) so I've never really been too interested in the alcoholic offerings at these events ....but when I saw Lockhouse on the lineup I knew I wanted to go. The drinks were fabulous....and I mean FABULOUS! I'm a sucker for a good craft cocktail...and I'm loving all the new places popping up all over B-lo. I tried several varieties from their menu...1955 Rose, Lockhouse Negroni, Perfect Pear, Dirty Pop, and the New Fashion. My favorite was the 1955 Rose due to it's delicious and sweet aroma. We were treated with some snacks from their kitchen and a tour of the distillery, lead by one of the newly appointed partners, Corey--who was later described by the bartender as "indispensable to the company." This was evident given his charisma, backed by detailed knowledge and passion. They turned what was no doubt a dilapidated, old warehouse into one of Buffalo's secret lil gems. Chill atmosphere, good people, creative menu of both food and drink....and probably THEEEE most comfortable bar stools I have ever had the pleasure of imbibing in. So glad I was able to make it here. Stopped by after the Sabres game on Valentine's Afternoon. This place looks like it is fun in the summer, with the garage door that opens. But it was still very nice inside. Not overdone, kind of industrial. The bartenders were very friendly and attentive. We ordered the perfect pear which was a vodka drink, and the gatsbee which was a gin drink. Both very delicious!!! The kitchen was closed so we were not able to try any of the food. I loved the mixture in my panini. It was rather aromatic, with granola, apple and brie cheese. + Drinks: The bartender let me sample their dirty soda which I appreciated quite a bit since I didn't end up liking the flavor (and would've been gravely disappointed if I ordered a whole cup of it). The bottles of wine were rather reasonable! 18$/bottle. It wasn't a bad place at the slightest. It's located right by a cobblestone road and near central Buffalo. I seriously loved this place. Everything about it appealed to me: the lights, decor, graphic design, location, bartenders, drinks and music. If I could design a summer cocktail bar, Lockhouse Distillery would be it. I went as part of a pedal tour, which is by definition very obnoxious, but Lockhouse was incredibly gracious about our group party mentality. They had a special cocktail menu specifically for the tour and despite several of us descending on them at once, they still managed to deliver quality cocktails -- the Moscow Mule I had was probably the best I've tasted all summer. Beside the excellent drinks, there's a nice outdoor area facing the cobblestone and beautiful black and white block lettering murals. A live jazz band rounded out the overall airy and sexy feel of the bar. Perfect place to take a date, grab a cocktail, enjoy the dim lights and savor a great night out. read more

Cool place in the cobblestone district. I went on a Saturday afternoon about 4:30, the place was lively, no room at the bar so we opted for a high round table with cushy stools. While we were there a bachelorette party came in and the remnants of a pedal tour filtered out, it made for a lively atmosphere. My day was to be dedicated to beer but I just had to have one of their handcrafted cocktails. Finally settled on the 1955 Rose after a friendly conversation with another patron who noticed my indecision, my friend had the apple curvee beer both were outstanding! I didn't see a food menu, but that wasn't what I was there for, next time. Cool spot. Can't wait to go back to work myself through the cocktail menu! read more

Last night a large group of friends went there for a dance party. One of our friends got very messed up. The bouncer and bar manager Casey handled the situation in an unprofessional and illegal way and I want to tell that story here. The staff pulled our drunk friend on the patio and would not let any of us talk to him. They kept yelling, "everybody out", that they had called an ambulance. I wanted to talk with our friend and gauge how bad he felt because if we could just get him out of there ourselves that would be a lot less embarrassing and expensive than having to call an ambulance. (I used to manage comedy clubs and have worked in the bar industry for 20 years, so I have seen many messed up people before and sometimes they just need their friends to get them out of there.) Since they would not let me talk to my friend, I asked to speak to the manager. Her name was Casey, and she was nasty from the moment she opened her mouth. It seemed like she ready for a fight before I could even logically talk to her. That is not a good trait of a manager. I said, "Casey, I'm sorry about our friend, but let me get him out of here. We will get him back home safe." She said, "No, we already called the ambulance." I said, "OK, but he did not consent to that. Ambulances are expensive. Is the bar going to pick up the tab?" This is where she got mad. She started yelling that she already called the ambulance, and then she kept spelling her name over and over for me "in case I wanted to complain." I was thinking, "what is going on with this lady?" She is completely loosing her cool even though I was calmly and rationally trying to tell her we would get our friend out of their space. Then she turned to the bouncer. "Get her out of here!" she yelled. This obviously surprised me since I was completely sober and not even raising my voice. So after trying to rationally talk to her another minute I realized that was useless, she wanted me out of there, so fine. I told the bouncer I needed to get my purse inside. He followed me in, and that is when I saw he had another large male next to him. (Please note that I am a 5'2", 100 lb. female, and both of these men were over 6' tall and well over 200 lbs.) Since we had a large group of friends there, I went up to one of my friends and started explaining the situation. I was trying to work out details about how everyone was getting home. Then bouncer started yelling, "you gotta go, you gotta go." I told him, "I just need another minute to work this out." The bartender then motioned to his very large male friend who followed us in, who then grabbed me so hard by the arms and physically dragged me out of there. He put bruises on my arms and my neck hurts today. This is illegal. It is also discriminatory because if I was not a small woman he would not have done this. The law is this, and I know it because I used to train security guards at the clubs I worked at. : Bouncers are not entitled to engage in the use of force unless they are first threatened with physical harm. Thus, unless they are approached with physical threats of harm, bouncers are not entitled to: --Strike a patron with a punch or kick --Push or physically throw a person out of the establishment --Restrain them in a chokeholds, "joint locks", or other techniques -Use weapons or pepper spray In other words, bouncers are simply ordinary persons who are subject to both criminal laws as well as civil personal injury laws. If you have been treated aggressively by a bouncer for no reason, you may have a basis for a lawsuit, and the bouncer might even be held criminally liable.) Knowing the law and feeling very violated, once I got outside, I told him I would be back with my attorney because they were not allowed to do that. He threw his hands up in the air and said, "it wasn't me, I didn't touch you." He KNEW the law and deliberately had his large male friend use physical force on me to get me out. I called the bar several time today to talk to the owner but even though their web site says they should be open, there was no answer. I do hope to be contacted by the owner soon so this situation can be resolved. I believe I was treated very badly and force was used upon me that was extremely unnecessary. I also think that the bar manager Casey should not work in this industry is she has such a short, nasty fuse and would treat customers in such a condescending, mean way that she did. SIDENOTE: They did take our friend in an ambulance and he was immediately released as soon as he got to the hospital. read more

I stopped in here with some friends from out of town around 10 o'clock for a nightcap after meaning to for several months. We each tried a different cocktail--i had a really hard time choosing! All of the options looked good and they were all $9. I eventually settled on a Negroni. Cocktails were not skimpy for the price either. The bartenders were polite and attentive. They also serve a few drafts as well as other new York liquors. I know they do serve food but we didn't try anything on this stop. Now I have an excuse to return! Lockhouse is located right by canal side with a plethora of bars right next door to navigate to after if you're in a bar hopping kind of mood. And if you're in a really into shenanigans, you've got the casino a parking lot away. But for now, let's focus on the bar. A small spot with an garage door as a wall that provides be perfect environment for drinking on a beautiful day when it's open, or solid insulation when it's cold. It's a vodka and gin distillery, so get this, they have award winning vodka and gin. Go figure. Not your jam? That's fine because they've got a pretty wide beer list, a fully loaded bar, and bartenders who are cool enough to ask what you like before they make you a custom cocktail. They make a house Moscow mule which was solid, and using their coffee liquor they've got two coffee cocktails that rocked my world. The service is great, the music is on point, they've got an average amount of indoor and outdoor seating, and a really solid vibe where they aren't full of themselves. The one I had was hot and really hit the spot because it was a very cold night. It was cool that you could see the distilling room. The bar staff was nice. I really, really enjoy their spirits and think they do a great job for one of the first distilleries in Buffalo. We came here another night with a group of six people. We (luckily) got a table as the band was setting up. It grew crowded very quickly, with the Bandits game letting out nearby. There were only two bartenders working for a crowd of at least 80 people, which was certainly not enough. You can tell they take pride in their drinks and each drink has a variety of ingredients, so it would have been helpful to have more staffed to keep up with the demands of the crowd. The live music was awesome and the bank (Funktional Flow) was a MUST SEE. However, it was extremely loud in there, so just be prepared if you're going for live music. Overall a very cool place that I would like to return to ASAP! read more

It was a snowy night in Buffalo...yet we decided to try Lockhouse Distillery on a whim...driving all the way downtown from our small abode in the Southtowns. I love adventuring to new places, and when we walked into Lockhouse, I felt really excited because it felt modern, industrial and innovative. One of the head distillers happened to be bartending when we came in, and he couldn't have been more welcoming and chatty. The place wasn't full at all, so he talked to us all about their philosophy as a craft distillery and how much they loved collaborating with other Buffalo area businesses. The cocktails themselves were phenomenal...we watched as the bartender worked his magic...pouring in freshly squeezed juices and explaining what flavors made up each of our drinks (mine was the GatsBee). To top it off, we ordered a couple of paninis, and boy were they good! I had the smoked salmon one, and it was just delicious. I highly recommend the Lockhouse Distillery...especially on the coziest of winter nights! read more

Me and my friends had a great time hanging out here both before and after a comedy show at Helium. This is the first distillery to open in the Buffalo city limits since the Prohibition Era so its pretty significant to Buffalo's rebirth if you ask me. The place has a great vibe. It really kind of has like an old speakeasy feel in a way. During nice weather they have a large garage door in the front that opens to allow patrons to enjoy a nice summer breeze and patio style bar atmosphere. They have a nice bar area you can hang out at or some tables. The night I was there they had a live jazz band playing. The bartenders here are awesome and you should definitely ask them for a recommendation if you are not sure what to order because they will definitely steer you in the right direction. Ask for a sample to see what you like. Then order off their cocktail list most of which are made with their in house liquors. read more

My girlfriend and I popped into Lockhouse to support our gal pals who were hosting a "friendly competition" fundraising event. Neither of us had been here before... ...the decor is simple and super cute. I loved the bar backlights and the music was ON-POINT! (I wonder if the playlist is always so lit, or if it was just because of the event) I'm talking TLC, Aaliyah, 112, pretty much all the best old school R&B jams...so yah...win. Any who...once we were three very delicious, very strong drinks in...we decided to split the Ahi Tuna Bahn Mi with fresh cucumber, cilantro, and a chipotle mayo on ciabatta bread. (We were just looking to fill our bellies with a light snack). Believe me when I say that this sandwich was so good, I almost licked the mayo right off of my plate. Buffalo needs more local distillers - Lockhouse Distillery is one of the few incredible WNY distilleries that is leaving their mark on the beverage market. Lockhouse distills their own signature recipes for gin, and makes a mean vodka to boot. After a tour of the distillery, I sampled their vodka, gin and barrel aged gin - all smooth, unique and delicious. I had one cocktail and my was it heaven - I forget the name, but there was some type of rose ingredient and it was light, floral, and not too sweet. I sampled several paninis and some of the pizza, all perfect for the location, atmosphere and drink options. Dedicated to local sourcing, the menu (full of sandwiches, cheese, salads and more) features products from Nickel City Cheese and Al Cohen's. My favorite by far was the roast beef: roast beef, salt & caraway seeds, horse radish cheddar, au jus, followed by the cuban: ham, swiss, dijon mustard, house pickles. I'm BEYOND EXCITED for their newest spirit - Lockhouse is working with Public Espresso (like I need to say any more) to develop a new, caffeine packed coffee liquor. After a quick overview of that project, our tour group was welcomed back to sample from the 'wall of inspiration." To see how different foods/herbs react with the liquor with flavors, scents, and/or colors, the distillers infuse strong liquor with various items inspired by their imagination and others'. I had the pleasure of checking out Lockhouse Distillery Monday for a Yelp event. I fell in love with the atmosphere. The beams, the murals, and the wonderful distillery that is exposed behind the glass. I tried the New Fashion drink. It was very good, but you can definitely taste the alcohol and on an empty stomach, it hits you fast. They serve food, but I didn't try any this round. I will be back though because everyone was raving about the pear drink. Parking is easy, after 5 p.m., when I went. I do not know how parking is other times. read more

Recently got to visit Lockhouse for a Yelp event. Certainly 100% impressed and happy with this place. I ordered once of their Gin cocktails since I already was a fan of their Gin, it was exactly what I was looking for in a drink. Bartender was attentive and friendly our entire visit. We were able to get a tour of the distillery and needless to say i was pleased. We got a full rundown of how the process works and found out they are doing a collaboration with Public Coffee, very please to hear and excited for that to be available. The partner who gave us the tour was more than welcoming, we got to try a lot of so called "test" flavors I guess. That's pretty much just alcohol soaked in a bunch of weird things to see how it changes the taste. Banana, Rosemary, things of that sort, I'd have to say that was my favorite part of the tour. We were able to sample all of their Paninis as well and i was impressed with how great they were, more mean over bread for sure so i recommend trying them! As far as i know they will soon be getting a cook in there so I can assume the menu might become a bit more broad than it is now. I am looking forward to visiting again and seeing how lunch Lockhouse transitions as they settle into their new location. read more

The lovely popcorn scented air via the processing going on at General Mills made me hungry. I initially thought that Maria was taking me to a dry establishment since it is my habit to imbibe at lunch. Not the case at all. Full bar! Local distillations along with a somewhat limited wine selection. I had perused the menu prior to arrival and knew exactly what I wanted. The wine was a complete surprise however I digress. Roast beef panini on rye. Perfectly assembled with a wee dish of sweet pickles and au jus. The actual eatery section of this working distillery is beautiful! Great space, friendly / knowledgable staff and fun mixed crowd. If you have the opportunity, take the Distillery Tour and find out more about this new gem. Nice local beer selection and the mixed drinks are made with care. This place makes you think twice about the gin and vodka you're used to drinking. Great addition to downtown. read more
