My first visit to Savory Bun, and hopefully not my last. The vibe is relaxed, festive, and the acoustic pop playlist adds to the laid back feel here. I was happy to find some good wine options and beers like Asahi and Tsingtao on the drink menu. The dumplings were fresh and generous portions. The crab rangoon was creamy and larger than other places in the area. I really enjoyed the shrimp stir fried with udon noodles, as the noodles really soaked up the tasty sauce. For dessert, the mango mochi was sweet and the perfect portion for two to share. The parking lot here is not real big, and there are other restaurants in this strip mall competing for spots, but it looks like there might be street parking nearby when the lot is filled. A little pricier compared to other spots with comparable items, but the portions here are good. I look forward to trying other dishes and dumplings here.

I feel like I'm often craving xlb and I HAVE FOUND THE SOLUTION! It is... Savory Bun We have been SO excited to visit them and recently tried their crab rangoon (), spicy chili oil wontons (not that spicy but SO good!), bbq pork bun (yum!), Shanghai xiao long soup bun (not pictured bc we couldn't wait to eat it lol), crabmeat and pork soup bun, and pan fried bun. I'm not much of a pan fried bun girl but I'm so happy we have a local xlb spot to hit now Can't wait to try their boba and noodles next!

I've been seeing ads for this place, so I decided to try it. When you walk in, it's pretty spacious and it was quiet for Sunday lunch. Not busy at this time. My cousin and I got the chilled cucumber salad, scallion pancake, chicken and mushroom dumplings, and pepper beef. The cucumber was exactly what the description said. It was just sliced cucumber in chili oil, nothing special. The scallion pancake was crispy, but I didn't really taste anything. The soup dumpling were good. Hot and flavorful and the best dish we ordered. The pepper beef came out warm. It wasn't hot like I would expect it to be. The beef was on the chewy side. The service was fine and the food was okay, but I don't think I'll be back.

My wife and I visited Savory Bun for dinner and had an overall enjoyable experience. The interior is well lit and inviting, with walls decorated with vibrant photos of various Asian dishes that really set the mood for the meal. We started with the Crab Rangoons, which were good and had a nice balance of crispiness and flavor. For our mains, we ordered the Vegetable Chow Mein, Szechuan Chicken, Chicken Pan Fried Dumplings, and the Wonton Chicken Stir Fry. While the Szechuan Chicken wasn't anything too special, the rest of the dishes were tasty and satisfying. The highlight of the evening was definitely the customer service--the staff was very kind, attentive, and professional throughout our visit. Overall, Savory Bun delivered a pleasant dining experience with solid food and great service.

Cute little place to get some buns! We ordered the braised beef noodle soup, house fried rice and the Shanghai xiao long soup buns. The dumplings were delicious. We were seated right away and service was fast.

I only found out about this place through social media. The problem with those "influencers" is that they think everything is 5/5 and is amazing. We came in on Saturday 1/31/26. The menu will definitely appeal to mostly American tastes, most of the non-Chinese will think this is the best thing that ever happened to them. The service itself left much to be desired. It could use more work. Our server the guy brought over the wrong appetizer. He gave us scallion pancakes instead of the beef pancake roll. He fixed it after I pointed it out. Prices were slightly more expensive than the average Americanized Chinese restaurant. We ordered spicy chili oil wontons, beef pancake roll, crabmeat & pork soup bun, thumbling pan fried pork bun, and minced pork noodle. Overall it's a 3 out of 5. -spicy chili oil wontons 3 - not spicy at all. After eating at DTF quite a few times, there is no comparison. This version was mid. $9 is a bit much for this. $7-8 is better. -beef pancake roll 3.5 - I never had this before. It wasn't bad. Make sure you use the hoisin sauce with it because there is no taste without it. This is not $14 worth. It's worth at least $7. -crabmeat & pork soup bun 4.5 - I like the juice and it had a good amount of filling. However, the skin sticks to those mini foil baking cups. It'll be better if they use perforated parchment or steaming paper like at DTF so that it doesn't stick and keep all of the juices inside. -thumbling pan fried pork bun 5 - I really liked this one. The skin was crispy. It pulled apart easily. The filling inside of the pork buns were juicy. -minced pork noodle 2.5 - we mixed it up but there wasn't much taste. It was more subtle than prominent. In addition, the meat to noodle ratio was horrible. There wasn't a lot of meat in here. When they first give it to you, it looks like a lot of meat until you start mixing it.

Tumbling Pan Fried Dumplings. This was yummy.

Food - above average. Taste was good. We ordered the Beef Noodle Soup and Wonton Noodle Soup. The Shanghai Long Bao was also good. It did not coagulate even though we had some after eating the noodles. In terms of taste, both were good. The only thing that I would say is that we did not expect the Wonton Noodle Soup to have spice. I would at least put it on the menu that it has mild spice. Service - good. It was not busy but they checked in just enough.

Decided to stop at Savory Bun. Turns out they've only been open for about 2 months. I ordered the Soup Dumplings, Crystal Shrimp Dumplings, edamame, crab rangoons, passion fruit boba tea and green tea. The highlights were the dumplings. I've never had soup dumplings before. It was a tasty surprise. There were only 2 servers from what I was able to see but they were very attentive and came around frequently to check on us. We walked in right around 5pm and there was only my family of 3 and another couple. Within the hour, the place packed up and got busier. The place itself is spacious and the decor is simple. My wife, son and I enjoyed our experience and will go back soon. It was good to have another options for dumplings in the area. Check it out for yourself! Hopefully they continue to thrive and add on to their staff.

I've been to this location once and it was ok. My wife did an order 2 noodle soups and a drink. One of the noodle soups was correct, however the wonton noodle soup did not come with the correct broth/soup instead we were given a spicy beef broth with chili oil. Call the restaurant who advise "they" make their wonton noodle soup with beef broth. So I asked the wonton noodle soup is spicy? She said yes. She said they could not do a refund and that we'd need to go through doordash to request and they would approve. Lady I spoke with was consistently adimant that that's how their wonton noodle soup is, yet it doesn't match any of their pictures on the menu and would noy accept any fault. Best luck to those that go here, but we will never be back due to service and quality of food. Five Spice down the road is 100x better food and service.

Food was piping hot and delicious! The pork and chive dumplings had a lot of filling. Love that they put the dumpling sauce on all of the tables (almost like a black vinegar with sweet soy sauce combo). I hope they do well and are here to stay. Our server was wonderful too!

We went back to Savory Buns to see if there have been any updates, and they sure did! They fixed their soup dumplings (xiao long bao)!! They now put it in a little aluminum foil cup, so you can easily eat the soup dumpling without wasting the soup. There was plenty of soup inside and the flavor of the dumpling also significantly improved! It is still better than the restaurant recently opened in Schaumburg! We, also, tried some of their noodles this time. I got the Tan Tan noodles. The noodles itself were perfectly cooked, and the flavor of the noodles were nice. My only complaint is that the portion seems to be smaller than the Beef Noodle Soup and Lo Mein. My mom liked it and would get it next time. Their Lo Mein is still delicious!! It has that wok-fried taste that is missing in a lot of Chinese restaurants. Service has also improved. They are definitely more familiar than last time and much more attentive. Savory Buns is one of our favorite Noodle/Dumpling restaurants in the area!

BIg, clean space. The service was very good. The buns were amazing! We had 3 types of buns plus the bbq pork buns. We also had the wontons in chili oil and the cucumber salad. The flavor was perfection! Highly recommended.

My wife, her mom, and I were in Chicago to remember my father-in-law's death anniversary, and my sister-in-law chose Chef Ping's, for our party of nine for a Wednesday lunch. Parking is plentiful and the dining area can seat a lot. We got seated at a large round table in the back room, with a large lazy susan (just need to remember to spin it very slowly). We ordered a lot, and the food came out slowly. There was plenty of leftovers for the local folks to have for future meal or two. 3 Shrimp Toast (6 pieces each) - $26.85 - greasy but good, with the shrimp paste being a little sweet (in a good way) Noodle in Black Bean Sauce ($12.50) - this is jja jang myeon, which two of us had the previous night. It was OK, not near the top of the best I've had. Ping's Noodle Soup ($15.50) - the other classic Chinese-Korean dish, this is jjampong, a dish I've had many times. I was the only one to eat it, so ended up being my main dish. It was good, with thick noodles...just wish it had more seafood. Salt & Pepper Smelt ($16.90) - not sure if always available, but this was excellent...my favorite dish and one that I finished once I realized that everybody had their fill. It really depends on the quality of the smelt, which was excellent in this case. It was lightly battered, and carefully deep fried. Other dishes enjoyed by others: 2 Salt & Pepper Prawns - $35.90 - large head-on shell-on prawns fire wokked. Salt & Pepper Tofu ($11.50) - for the vegetarians Chicken Skewers (4) - $8.75 - tender and shareable Walnut Shrimp ($19.90) - mayo with shrimp Young Chow Fried Rice ($12.50) - fried rice is a necessity for our group Mongolian Beef ($17.50) - a classic 2 Sesame Ball (4) - $7 - a great way to finish a meal. 18% tip was automatically added, and service was OK throughout. Our water was kept refilled, and I think hot water was as well. It was a good meal and opportunity to get back together

Both the service and quality of food has gone way down from what they were famous for. The waitress spilled my tea, also dipped her finger in my tea, had no apology or offer to exchange it with a fresh cup. I had to ask her for a fresh cup of tea. Then the other server that brought our entrees spilled my husbands tea and again no offering to getting a fresh cup. We had to ask AGAIN for a fresh cup! While the portions were generous, the quality of all the food has gone way down. The special family recipe of thier shrimp dish Gan Pong is nothing but fried shrimp with dried chili peppers and no flavor. The Hunan spicy beef and chicken appeared to be all globs and sticky because of excessive and over use of corn starch used during the cooking process. This dish didn't have any unique flavor that one would expect. Previously we had experienced a difference in the food, taste and quality and that's what kept us returning. Sadly, after this experience I wouldn't recommend it to anyone or come back! I'd rather stick with Yu's Mandarin than drive to this place! Quality always wins over quantity in my books!

The family and I have been coming to this hot pot place for years. Everyone loves hot pot,…read moreespecially during cold weather, and my kids in particular have a huge appetite for it. We usually come here when the cravings hit or to celebrate family occasions. The prices are very reasonable and generally under $30 per person. We were last here about a week ago and it was $28 per adult, while kids were $14 (half-priced). I did notice prices increased by about $1 over the past year, but that's expected. Another thing I really appreciate is how easy it is to dine here. We've come on a Saturday night for dinner without a reservation and were able to walk right in. Most of the time, walk-ins aren't an issue, which is really nice. A while back, they used to have you mark hotpot ingredients on a paper menu and staff would bring them to your table. Over the past couple of years, they've switched to an ingredient bar at the back of the restaurant where you can grab your own noodles, vegetables, seafood, and sauces. There are empty plates, bowls, and saucers available, making it easy to customize your spread. The only items you still need to order verbally are the hot pot meats, which makes the overall experience much more efficient and you can get to cooking quickly! Here's my favorite way to make a dipping sauce for hotpot: garlic + basic soy sauce / house sauce, a pinch of spice sauce + top with a lot of green onions cuttings. And there you have it! The ingredient selection is decent including several types of noodles like udon, glass noodles, and ramen. They have my favorite vegetables like watercress and bok choy as well as some of my favorites proteins: shrimp, mussels, quail eggs, fish cakes, cubes and balls. There is a peanut sauce available at the sauce bar, but I wouldn't recommend this place for anyone with food allergies or strict dietary restrictions, as cross-contamination could easily happen with the shared setup. One of our favorite appetizer items -- which is free with the AYCE and not at the ingredient bar -- is the fried buns with condensed milk. They're listed on the menu and are absolutely delicious. We usually order multiple rounds as our kids love them, and so do I. When it comes to drinks, everything is ordered à la carte. They offer soft drinks, alcohol, and smoothies. I ordered a mango and pineapple smoothie for $7, which was quite sizable and very refreshing. You can also order a single-fruit smoothie for $6. For broth options, there are only two choices: a bone broth or a spicy broth. If you have kids, I recommend the non-spicy option. The broth can get a little fatty after cooking all the ingredients in it and is enough for flavor. We came as a family of 6 and opted not to squeeze into one booth. We asked to sit at 2 adjacent hybrid booth tables and requested an additional hot pot for the 2nd table, and they were very accommodating. One of the servers also speaks Cantonese, which was very helpful for our family. One small piece of feedback for the owners: for places like this, it would be great to have disposable gloves available at the ingredient bar. I always appreciate seeing that extra level of consideration for cleanliness. Lastly, just a heads-up that gratuity is automatically added to the check for parties of two or more. Make sure to review your bill before adding an extra tip -- unless, of course, you want to tip more. Overall, this is one of our family's favorite places for hot pot when we want a no-fuss, no-cleanup meal. It's a solid experience that doesn't break the bank, especially for large families. The fact that they focus solely on hot pot -- without additional barbecue meats or grills -- helps keep it surprisingly affordable. The restaurant is also connected to a Mexican bar so your receipt is gonna ring out with that place as a vendor and this restaurant is next to "Noodle Delight" (likely same owners?) if you're looking for authentic Chinese food in a more traditional setting. We've been to that place as well and it was great, but that would be another separate review :)
