I ordered the Iron Man omelette from the "Lighter Side" section, which sounds modest but clearly has superhero-level powers. Moments later, a glorious cloud of fluffy egg whites loaded with veggies landed in front of me like a gift from heaven. Now let's talk about the true headliner: the half avocado atop the omelette. Not the sad, rock-hard "maybe it'll ripen by Thursday" kind. This was an award-winning avocado performance. Perfectly ripe, green, and flavorful. The most perfect piece of produce ever produced. And then...strawberries, watermelon, and other tasty fresh fruit on the side. In February. In the Midwest. I don't know what kind of agricultural wizardry is happening back there in the kitchen, but I support it. As if that weren't enough, the waitress noticed my deep emotional commitment to hot sauce and brought me not one but TWO Cholula flavors. That's not just service. That's the kind of service that brings a tear to my eye. I was too overwhelmed with happiness to take photos, but let me just say it was an amazing lunch. Honestly, I may order this exact meal for my next ten visits because why mess with perfection? Outside of my ideal meal documented here, the breakfast+lunch menu is extensive, the daily soup rotation is strong, and everything about this place screams "small town gem." Came for lunch. What a great restaurant with plenty of parking. I can see how people can become regulars here and my friend that invited me to meet her. Here was definitely one of them. We had a booth table next to the window. Our waitress was really friendly and nice. I wasn't even hungry as I normally just have coffee in the morning and was intending on having until my friend ordered a triple berry bowl which I also got. It was an excellent choice. I felt like the fruit was really fresh along with the yogurt and even though it seemed like a simple thing to make, it just looked and felt really elevated. It was a reasonable size portion. Mr. A's is a family run restaurant in Roselle that acts as the neighborhood diner. I've been here many of times and the food as well as prices never disappoints me. As busy as the parking lot looks, I've never had to wait longer than 15 min for a table. The staff hustles but never rushes you out the door. On top of all that, you will often see Mr. A himself working alongside staff which I personally love. This time visiting, I got the Biscuits and Gravy. These come loaded with gravy which is nicely peppered and has good sized meat crumbles within. Well this was recommended and since I work along the way to Streamwood, I decided to eat breakfast here in Roselle. Anyways the service was very quick and friendly and I addressed how this is my first time coming here because it was recommended by my childhood babysitters son in regards to the cost and how much breakfast food you get. I went for the number 2 which was three pancakes three eggs and I went for sausage links. They are known for their ham but I'm not a big fan of ham. Maybe I'll try it one day when I come back. Ambience was your usual homely breakfast place. Price wise it was under $14 per entree breakfast wise. I would probably come back for the French toast and some of their pancakes that either have banana split on the menu which I thought was unusual they put ice cream I don't know? Anyways, when in Roselle and you have the leisurely time please stop by here. Just do it before 2:30 pm because they close early in the afternoon. I have eaten here four times in the last two weeks, so I obviously enjoy it. I had a breakfast burrito once. It was good, but their #1 eggs with ham was my choice the other times. It is hard to beat. The ham slab is the star of the show. It's quite large and delicious. I haven't gotten here for lunch yet, but a friend of mine swears by the split pea soup - again the ham shines through. They even have a sign on the door letting you know that you can buy just the slabs of ham. There must be a story there about where they get these hams. The service is among the best anywhere. This is a neighborhood gem in Roselle whose management and staff are friendly and take good care of their customers. The portions are large with lots of comfort food to fill your belly on a cold day. I told the waitress that I was gluten free and she said that almost all the items on the menu could be made gluten free. I had two perfectly poached eggs with a nice assortment of fresh fruit and cottage cheese. I ordered gluten free toast but they were out so they offered gluten free pancakes instead. The GF pancakes were deliciously light and fluffy. She told me that they had someone run out to buy GF bread which is above and beyond. Proof that this is a business worth supporting. Really solid diner! Family went for brunch so some of us got breakfast and some had lunch. I wouldn't say anything was spectacular but everything was solid and I think they do the basics really well. 11/10/23: My son bought me a steak dinner today from Mr. A's because I've been craving a simple steak dinner for months. He said the total bill was $23.00 Wow, absolutely five stars!!!! The charcoal grilled skirt steak with caramelized onions was easily 12 inches long and almost an inch thick. It was done to perfection with a nice pink in the middle. It was tender, juicy and very delicious. Really really great. The meal also came with alot of tater tots. a really nice big fresh salad and bread with butter. Easily elsewhere this meal would be $40-50.00. The restaurants near me (I am now in South Elgin) are ridiculous in what they charge. It easily fed the both of us for lunch with plenty left over for my dinner tonight. Man oh man, this was a scrumptious meal. Whoever did the steak knew what they were doing. So juicy, tender, full of flavor. We don't eat steak often (me twice this past year) so a steak meal is a real luxury to us. Mr. A's did not disappoint. Everything was beyond my expectations. I would have post pictures but this was so good, we ate most of it asap. I now wish I had taken photos...............presentation even for take out was fantastic and again could rival a lot of more expensive restaurants that serve steak. Thank you Mr. A's. I hope you stay in business. You want a good steak dinner this is the place. Their soups, salads, HAM, deserts and sandwiches are also very good. Try Mr. A's even if you live a little outside the Roselle/Hanover Park area. It's worth the trip. Their soups are all home made and really good. Keep in mind Mr. A's closes early, I think right around 2:30 pm. I have also purchased ham bones from Mr. A's for making soup. His meaty ham bones make real delicious soup. Again, Here in Elgin you can't get a good steak dinner for that price and this wasn't a cheap steak either. We have frequented Mr. A's for years now and have always found their food to be fresh, delicious, high quality and reasonably priced. We usually get take out but if you want to eat in, well this place rocks because it's casual, clean and a real nice welcoming atmosphere with friendly staff. I note they also pack their food very well for take out as well as with a lot of places they scrimp on the take outs.......not Mr. A's. My favorite breakfast spot! I've been dining here for the last couple of years, and I am satisfied every time. The atmosphere is that of a typical mom and pop diner. There are usually tvs playing football or the news. The service is excellent, and when things go wrong, they are quickly and kindly made right. My absolute favorite dish here is the cinnamon swirl french toast combo. The french toast is topped with a drizzle cream cheese icing, and of course, it comes with eggs and bacon/sausage. The french toast itself is very thick and does not skimp on flavor. Some other dishes that my family loves are: Fiesta skillet, blueberry streudel french toast (seasonal), and chicken and waffles (really big one in my family). They tout themselves as the Best Ham in Roselle......I certainly am not going to argue. It was definitely one of the best breakfasts I have had in a long time. If you have read my reviews you will know that I judge all by their hash browns and they don't have them per say, they have home fries, which since I left Chicago I had almost forgotten about. They were great, just the perfect contrast of crisp and creamy and plenty of them. I got a Skillet (Shocking) as again it's the most hash browns available. I just got a ham and cheese skillet, it was amazing, and 4 eggs....crazy. I had plenty for the next morning as well. I was perfect, perfect ratio of ingredients, perfectly cooked potatoes, perfect eggs. All this and I didnt even get to the ham, it's really special, it's unlike any ham you will find at other places. I was so distracted at the perfectness of mine the only thing I remember about my wife's food was the incredible fruit side that it came with, when you ask for fruit on the side you often get a small thing of a few pieces of melon, a few grapes and maybe a strawberry. This was a next level fruit side. The other thing I loved is that they had sourdough toast and it was like bakery sourdough. It was really good. This place was was good! Upon entering the hostess had her mask down and walked throughout the place with her mask down. They use reusable menus which had stuck on food, not sure if they sanitize their menus. Food was great, Large portions, and the pumpkin spice French toast was delicious! Denver scrambler was perfect. Price was a cheap for how much food we received. A large Oj will usually cost about $5, here a large Oj was $2.95! Our server started out great, however, he was taking care of too many tables at once he kept forgetting things. He had to constantly apologize for forgetting items not just to us but to other customers. He should utilize a pen and paper to remember what he needs to bring back to the tables. read more

While in Illinois doing my thing I picked a place for breakfast that I felt would be good but as I got to Il I had a runner up place and I changed my mind and switched to the runner up place and OMG am I so fuc#%ng glad I did that. When I pulled into the lot and saw the sign, now open and I thought dam a just opened GREEN place is what I picked. When I saw the valet parking at a breakfast place I thought was I in the wrong place, how cool is that. The place is fresh looking with a nice mix of tables/booths/counter seating, this is not your old school Greek place. The place was well staffed and my service was top notch with friendly people, clearly not as new as I first thought. As I sat there looking over the great menu I noticed massive unreal looking breakfast plates hitting the tables around me. I ordered the biscuit-n-gravy with two eggs which was a layer of biscuits topped with ham and covered in sausage gravy which is topped with two eggs. This was no joke and the oversized plate hit the table looking amazing, see my picture. OMG there was more thick cut ham off the bone under all that gravy than I have ever been served and you notice the great quality with the first bite because it was super moist and fork tender, this is some serious good ham. The eggs were perfect and the biscuits and gravy were very tasty and some of the best I have had. The biscuits were very fresh and the light and fluffy kind, not the hard dense kind which I liked. The sausage gravy was creamy with just the right amount of crumbled sausage. Wow this was one really good breakfast with top quality ingredients and I'm very impressed. Overall this place knows how to do over the top breakfast and they do it very well, better than anyone else I must say.
