I have never heard of Fox & Turtle before, but looking at the NW Chicago Restaurant week, it looked delicious to try. I was treating my parents for my dad's birthday month (My daughter has a lot of activities, lol) and the menu appeared to have something for everyone. The 22 minute drive to Itasca was so worth it! The restaurant, which is open to the public, is on the same property as the Itasca Country Club, which is not open to the public. You go down the stairs, through the developing pizza bar, and to the restaurant. The restaurant space itself is cozy, with beautiful, natural lighting, and lots of seating options. We were asked booth or table and seated right by the picture window with beautiful views of their ice rinks and golf course. The food was above and beyond my expectations! Between the 5 people at the table, I sampled the French Onion soup, Sweet & Spicy Brussels, Bacon Smash Burger, Pot Roast Grilled Cheese, Sweet Tees (Donut Holes), Peanut Butter Smore-o, and Verde Dulce. The soup was not salty as I find some iterations, the brussels had complex flavors with hot honey, bacon, candied pistachios, and crumbled feta. The pot roast grilled cheese was very flavorful, but my boyfriend did state he wished the sandwich had more meat in it. The Sweet Tees donut holes were cooked to perfection without being oily and the jam accompaniment was a perfect texture and level of sweet. The Peanut Butter Smore-o was creamy and decadent with its perfectly ratioed layers of ganache, peanut butter mousse, Oreos, and whipped cream. The Verde Dulce, though, was the delicious classic olive oil cake with pistachio gelato & that throwback of candied pistachios from my appetizer. Even better than the food, our server, Kara, was one of the sweetest, most attentive human beings! She answered all of our questions, refilled our fountain drink and iced tea glasses when they were at 75% without prompting, made sure my dad felt celebrated with a candle, etc. Her teammate who was in charge of clearing our table was also prompt and I appreciate her asking what plates she could take. If you haven't discovered Fox & Turtle yet, you're missing one of the best hidden gems in the area. I was genuinely surprised to learn it's open to the public because it feels every bit like an upscale private country club. The outdoor patio overlooking the golf course is absolutely beautiful--relaxing, scenic, and the kind of place that makes you feel like you're on vacation. Even on a busy Thursday evening, the atmosphere was lively without ever feeling hectic. Our server, Jordyn, was outstanding. She looked young, but don't let that fool you--she was completely on top of everything. We were a party of six that couldn't decide what we wanted, laughed way too loudly, and probably tested her patience more than once. She handled us with grace, humor, and a smile the entire time. Somewhere along the way we started calling her "Wednesday" from The Addams Family, and she rolled with it perfectly. Great sense of humor and fantastic service. The food was excellent. The Crispy Eggplant Salad was absolutely phenomenal--fresh, flavorful, and easily large enough to share between two people. The burger was cooked perfectly, the cocktails were outstanding, and everything arrived promptly. The bar staff also deserve a shout-out. They were welcoming from the moment we arrived, made great eye contact, acknowledged everyone immediately, and had drinks in our hands in no time. That's the kind of hospitality that makes people want to come back. Fox & Turtle has the rare combination of great food, attentive service, excellent drinks, and a beautiful setting. Such a great time! Curling and Dinner success... Went on a double date. We made reservations. Such a great time. They have these "kids" working the ice. I say kids but they were sweet young men. They give you instructions and off you go. Those stones are heavier than I thought they would be. It took a lot and I have the upper body strength of a kitten so... I was struggling. Eventually I got the hang of it. OR maybe the ice got slicker and my stone went further. I think that's actually what happened. Lol! They do allow you to take drinks and appetizers out to the ice. There are warming posts and they were used. Cuz I was cold. Dinner was fabulous. Service was good and just yeah. A great time was had. I ordered the Thai Chili Salmon. So delicious. My husband ordered the Blackened Cajun Chicken Pasta. It was so cheesy but he really liked it. Our friends ordered the Jambalaya and Grilled Salmon. They also ordered dessert to go. Came here for drinks. It was a super nice day so we sat outside which you can look out and watch people golfing. Their food does look good, next time would try that. The espresso martini I got, I did request for it to be sweeter, which they didn't do but still okay. My husband liked his beer. Had a great time at this restaurant. Driving up in the evening, the place looks special and the theme continues inside. You have to go downstairs to get to the restaurant. We were greeted quickly and seated right away. The servers were very friendly and made recommendations on drinks and food. I ordered the chicken (which apparently is a whole chicken), and the server said it was a lot of food and usually would be for multiple guests. I said, challenge accepted lol. It's been forever since we ate here, but things haven't changed too much. Still fantastic food, somewhat slow service, but beautiful surroundings and staff is very friendly and accommodating. The kid meals are especially great as they come with many choices and a scoop of sorbet at the end. Small Caesar with shrimp is the perfect light bite. We brought friends that have never been there and they were very impressed. The Salmon was excellent . What ruined the night was a group of young guys being loud and obnoxious. My assumption was that their parents were members of country club. They were drinking and doing shots and as I was picking my wife up under the covered awning, they were pretending to be playing football. They were loud and over served and one stood in front of my car and wouldn't let me through until one of his friends said something. What was more concerning that these guys were getting in cars to drive home on a raining night and intoxicated. read more

We sat in a Filthy sticky booth, couldn't find anyone to wipe it down properly... so we switched booths- sat for over 5 minutes while multiple people walked by not even getting out drink order or greeting us .. so we got up and left. NEVER coming here again and being a local I will tell everyone I know. TERRIBLE SERVICE but the food was good. Not crowded, Sunday afternoon horrible service. Went here based on Yelp finding...... The bathroom was trashed tobut I really loved the eggplant salad. We also had the spinach artichoke dip & that was good. Great visit to Fox & Turtle as our last dinner of the trip. Beautiful setting, lots of seating, and flavorful food (and beer). A group of us visited and everyone else had beers and cocktails that they loved so I'm sure they are delish! I opted for dessert over drinks and the brown butter cake was moist and slightly chewy edges that I loved. I had the jambalaya which was perfectly spicy! Went for a early dinner with some coworkers and I enjoyed the skirt steak entree and it was two thick portions and I honestly was impressed! We also shared several appetizers which were the cauliflower, calamari along with wings. Everything was good plus the cosmopolitans. The service was attentive and we didn't feel rushed knowing we had a table of 7. Our waitress was very patient and told us to take our time as we sat and ate plus drank for hours and also enjoyed dessert which was the key lime pie and the carrot cake. We will be back! read more

Don't let them make you think you're a priority to them. They canceled my reservation 4 hours before we were scheduled to eat there with friends. I booked it 2 weeks ahead. Their reasoning was they were closing at 2:00 to the public and staying open for the club members after their lame tournament. This should have been planned well in advance, not the night before. This place is next to a country club. It was pretty cool to see that they have installed a skating rink where they set up the tent area. The rink is not opened yet but that is something cool for customers to do after or before they eat. They have deals everyday. Went here on a Saturday where they had a deal for the Prime Steak. King size for $35 and Queen for $28. Both came with a side of broccoli and mash potatoes. I also ordered a bowl of lobster bisque. I don't know what the chef did but everything tasted amazing. My friends and I were raving about the broccoli. Usually the broccoli would be mediocre and plain but this chef even made the broccoli flavorful. The lobster bisque was my favorite, they actually had pieces of lobster in there. However, I wish they made the soup hotter. It wasn't even that warm. I went to fox and turtle for my first time to meet some friends from high school. I hadn't seen them in person in years. Our server was named Katrina. She is amazing. Her personality and knowledge of the food and drinks made our day there even better. This girl should have her own comedy hour. She's hilarious. We ended up staying prob too long, and tying up Katrina's table for several hours. Katrina seemed to enjoy talking with us, while recommending some great apps and entrees. Her honestly is admirable. For once I didn't feel like someone was recommending something there were told to say. I can't say enough good things about our experience, but especially our server. If you go there, ask to beat seated in Katrina's section. You won't be disappointed. The food was great, the drinks were amazing. I can't believe I've never been here before. This was my third visit here and I have enjoyed each one. I opted for the Thai salad because it sounded both interesting and healthy. The salad contains mixed greens, bell peppers, sweet chili Brussels sprouts, watermelon radishes, cherry tomatoes, seasoned shrimp, and sesame ginger dressing. The Ingredients were very fresh and the Brussels sprouts in particular were inventive and amazing. This salad entree isn't cheap, but I had to take some home because it was a very generous portion. Recently, three past co-workers and myself decided to meet up. One of them suggested this restaurant. So right away, I had checked out the reviews so I knew I was going to have a great experience. I was picked up at the Itasca train station by one of my friends for the "long drive" to the restaurant. The restaurant is actually at the Itasca Country Club and is one block away so you don't need to request a Lyft or Uber. Once you enter the building, you will need take the stairs to the lower level the walk past the bar to host stand. We were greeted right away to taken to the table where our friends were already seated. The restaurant's decor is really modern for being part of a country club. There is a wall of windows so there is plenty of natural light and a great view of the area. Christine, server, had greeted us then proceeded with our first round of drinks. I believe she could sense that we were going be there for awhile. Less than 10 minutes, she had checked in with us, however, we hadn't even looked at the menu. About another 10 minutes, she checked in with us, again.... we got the hint. Since my friends have already been there, they knew the menu and so I decided to try the Caesar Salad (small) and then the Cheeseburger. Few minutes later, the soups and my salad were delivered. I could have split the salad with another person since it was so large for a lunch portion. So far excellent! Our entrees were brought shortly after our appetizers were done. We were all stun how large the Meatloaf meal was. There rest of the meals, burgers and the salmon were also a good size for lunch. Christine did check in with us without being bothersome. Again, we were in no rush. We were all very happy with our meals. The fries were seasoned just and and the burger was prepared medium as requested. For dessert, I had opted for the Peanut Butter Cookie and I forgot what my friends had ordered. I was little disappointed the cookie. The cookie was not warmed like other restaurants. I was just a peanut butter cookie with ice cream over it. Every time, I would attempt to cut into it, the cookie would fly off of the plate. But the rest of the meal was great. This is one of my favorite restaurants for a nice summer dinner with outdoor seating. The back patio offers scenic dining overviewing the golf course. The menu here has something for everyone with reasonable prices. Their serving sizes are on the larger end so I recommend ordering family style if you want to try a little bit of everything. My favorites are the turtle salad and blackened Cajun pasta. The salad is refreshing and crunchy with a sweet tangy dressing while the pasta is cooked el dente with creamy sauce. To eat, I got the Turtle salad and added chicken. The salad was really good. All fresh ingredients, the dressing added a really nice sweet flavor that the saltiness of the bacon complemented well. It was also a pretty good amount of salad. I killed the whole salad and was stuffed so win there. Service was good but as stated, we were there only ones there so idk how it is while busy. I was very surprised to pull up and find myself at Itasca Country Club, but as I walked into the restaurant it felt even more like a hidden gem. The atmosphere is clean, earthy, and cozy. The view out to the golf course is stunning! Our waiter was very nice and helpful, as none of us had been here before. After browsing the nice, long beer list we made our selections. The food was very very good! It was difficult to decide, but I opted for the grilled chicken. I tried my friends food as well, the spicy Mac and cheese was very good but could have been cheesier. What a cool little hidden gem. Went with some clients after work. Nice bar, cool vibe. The wait staff was attentive and friendly. We started with some very good calamari, everything as you would expect and cheese curds which were good as well. They have a good sized menu, gastropub kind fare. We did have an issue where one of our party (there were 6 of us) waited for his burger like 10 minutes after all the other food came. It was embarrassing in that kind of setting. Everyone enjoyed their food, I had a very good mushroom Risotto that I was happy with. The Key lime pie was also very good.
