I shop here pretty much every other day and was surprised to see some of the comments. I really enjoy shopping here and have yet to have a negative experience in my nearly 2 years of shopping at this store. The staff all are very helpful and friendly and I very rarely wait in line. I occasionally wander a bit while trying to figure out what on earth I'm going to make, and someone will almost always notice and ask if I need help finding something. Unfortunately this is the closest grocery store to my house but I need to drive an extra mile or two to go to Safeway. This place has the worst customer service ever. I came here today after church all of the employees are very friendly and very helpful very clean establishment very clean atmosphere first thing I noticed when coming in here was the employee was sanitizing all of the shopping carts which I liked seeing that they are following all of the Covid 19 guidelines it makes me feel safer seeing the employees do this they also have a sign saying if you don't have a mask you can't go shopping in there I saw a few people not wearing masks I wish everyone would but I know not everyone does the meat department was very beautifully displayed with all of the Delicious meats the service deli was also very beautifully displayed the bakery also had a lot of delicious items I was good I didn't get any donuts or other goodies believe me it was tempting lol but I didn't I did find a lot of great deals on all of the items they had so I did score some pretty amazing deals I used the self checkout and the guy working self checkout was very friendly and very helpful I highly recommend this establishment for anyone they have great deals on all of there Items I will definitely be coming back here again very soon for more future visits and more great experiences to come thank you save mart read more

If you're wondering why the employees seem to hate their lives it's because they probably do! Terribly dingey place, poor/unprofessional/extremely rude management (especially Joannie and Rose from Deli) , overpriced, people not wearing masks. You really can only give a place so many chances. You also need to check the dates on what you buy because there's always a good chance at this store that they will be expired! I could go on for quite a while but do yourself a favor and go down the street to Safeway, Nugget.. literally anywhere else is better. 1/10 and that's being generous. read more

Among the items I've purchased from here this week were 1. STALE chocolate chip muffins, which is funny because ironically the sticker on the package states: Baked fresh daily. What a letdown this morning when I presented these for breakfast. These had been obviously sitting on display all week. Gross. Next on the list: 2. Oikos triple zero Greek yogurt. Today is January 15th, date on yogurt is January 7th and I purchased this yesterday. My fault for not checking..but why should I have to? Where is the quality control in this grocery store? The store itself always has a strange odor (basically, I can smell the seafood department upon entering the front doors) and lighting on freezer isles is dim. Cashiers are always wrapped up in personal conversations, resulting in extra long wait time for the customers at the registers. Won't be back...I'll be sticking with Raley's from now on. We really like this store. All the staff are friendly, and it's close to home. However, the northwest side of the building (where the recycling used to be, near the school), is literally covered in broken glass. We have to carry our dogs over that part of the lot. It's not just the lot, but the sidewalk too. Disgraceful really, and complaints to the manager falls on deaf ears. UPDATE: Ken, the Manager, was informed and had it cleaned up. However, it's back; apparently someone thinks its funny to smash glass ever day. I go to save mart 2days before a birthday. Ask them to do a slime cake. They didn't know what it was, but said they will try. I think they did a great job. It tasted great, 1/2 chocolate 1/2 white. My daughter loved it. Thanks to the baker my daughter was super happy with her cake. read more

CAUTION: if you have an out of state drivers license Donna the "manager" will embarrass you and treat you like you're unworthy of service. I have never been so embarrassed. Recently I moved home from round rock, Texas. Living in California for only two days, I did not have the time to wait 10 hours at a DMV to get a new California drivers license right away. Stressed out with moving boxes all day, I went to save mart to grab some wine. Proceeded to check out and Donna TURNED ME DOWN, would not speak to me directly and refused service because I had a Texas drivers license and said there was nothing she could do. When I asked to speak to a manager, she said "I am the manager" in a nasty voice. It is sad how customer service has changed over the years and how store managers get away treating customers with zero respect. Long story short.. I never got my wine...... read more

My main complaint is that their products are overpriced, on almost everything. I only shop here because it is the closest grocery store to my house, so it's convenient for 1 or 2 items, anything more than that and I'll drive 3x the distance to Safeway. Given that complaint, I have no other gripes. The staff is friendly and helpful. The bathrooms are clean. I do love their new little carts for children, my son is always happy to help me push the cart (It's the perfect size too since we only go for small trips) If they had better prices we'd rather shop here than Safeway. Ashley L's review made me laugh. She was really rude to the cashier who only doesn't want to get fined and arrested over a darn bag. (I worked in a gas station, stuff like that is no joke due to pointless laws... take it to your congressman! The grocery checkout is no place for your soapbox) I can't stand people who treat cashiers like crap over something they're force to do. For 2 years I came here mainly out of convenience but after a month of shopping elsewhere I will never go back. The prices are pretty much the same as Safeway or Belair, but the food is usually past the expiration date when you buy it and the customer service is awful. Oddly enough the younger employees are kind for the most part and smile back but the older employees look like they'd rather be somewhere else and annoyed that you're even there. The self checkout machines have a problem every other time you use them and you usually have to wait at least 10 min for a sales associate to help you because they don't have anyone standing there ready to assist you. The store itself is depressing, the lighting is harsh and the frozen section is dim and not organized well. If you need to pickup something you forgot at another store and you have time to spare then this place might be for you, but other than that I'd avoid this store at all costs. read more

Poor customer service. They rarely have anyone at the self-checkout area to help customers that need assistance. One time a checker gave me back the incorrect change and the store didn't give me back my correct change until they closed the store for the day and checked the drawer the next day. One day a gentleman packed my groceries in my bag and left out an important item that I needed that day. read more

We started coming here after receiving not so great service at Safeway (thanks Annette for the Save Mart recommendation). I do most of my shopping before noon so it was relatively quiet. I usually find what I need on my list or something comparable. My 4 Stars is for the cashiers. I have to say the service from Tim was great. A few days later we came back during the evening and service from Phillip was great as well. The gentleman bagging our groceries was polite also. Even the younger lady collecting the shopping carts outside was kind. Save Mart will be our go to from now on. read more

I'm really disappointed with recent experiences I've had with this store. It must be how they are managed but the employees are the rudest I have ever witnessed in a store. It's a good thing Bel Air is as close so I don't have to travel farther to shop for groceries. Yesterday I overheard a young checker saying "Jesus Christ" under his breath because a woman at the self checkout was having issues with the machine. Isn't that why he's there? Today the person in the meat department hung up on me because I called to ask for beef bones and he said they had dry ones for dogs and I asked for fresh. Nevermind the fact I had another question. Check the expiration date on practically everything you put in your cart!!! So annoying to have to constantly bring back expired items. I don't like going back to the store for their mistake. Maybe they don't rotate product . At Self check out half of the time you are standing there waiting for someone. The only reason I shop here sometimes is because it's close . I've been going to this save mart for about 8 months because it was close to where I had just recently moved. I had an issue with the register at the self check out. I buy a lot of stuff from this store. Since I walk my dog to this store I would appreciate if they would clean the broken glass in the side parking lot. That's the side facing the elementary school - i'm surprised at how much glass is there everyday. I've told the managers several times but nothing ever gets done. If I could give this grocery store zero stars I would. I was just shopping and there is one check stand open and at least 12 people in line. In addition all of the self check stands are flashing red lights so no one can get through them. This store is consistently the worst grocery store in this area for staffing and convenience. You may stop in for one thing and spend half your time standing in line. Heaven forbid you come in for anything alcoholic....you are forced to stand in the one check line that is open because you can't use the self check. Horrible Customer Service From Diana at the checkout! When I approached the checkout there weren't any customers at any of the registers. Diana was conversing with another female checker across from her working the other register. In addition, the bagger was listening at the end of the conveyor belt. I set my items on the belt and Diana and the other checker continued to talk over me as if I wasn't even there. I was appalled by this. She rang up my stuff, took my money, and handed me my change. I didn't get a thank you, have a nice day, or any verbal interaction from Diana. I now realize why they have a self checkout at this store. It provides better customer service than their associates. There are a plethora of stores in the area. I think it is time I become a regular at another one. read more

Having shopped at this store since it began and had issues with mismarked items, which have since improved, I tried to cash in the "Bonus points" I have before they are lost. When l checked out the knife block was with the other items I was buying the casher was unable to complete the purchase. Apperently she was not instructed on what to do. The manager was helpless with a solution other then say I needed to follow the instructions in the brocher he had. Still no solution. I liked shopping in this store because it's never very busy and it's close to my house. Although there are some deals, it is overpriced. I wouldn't advise using the self check out, it seems like every time I do, it needs store assistance and it is usually hard to find someone to help you. One time 2 other people and myself had to wait for assistance for like 10 minutes because there was only one checker who had a line and no one would come. It turned out I had to wait all that time so someone could key in a code so that I could get a milk coupon. It happened again the next time I tried it, although I didn't have to wait quite as long but I did have to hunt for someone to help me, and then the coupon didn't even print! Also, I have had 3 separate times in the past few weeks where our dinner was ruined because something I bought turned out to be bad and then I had to scramble to figure out what to make instead. The first time I poured some fresh ravioli in a pot and noticed as it was going in it was covered with mold (I had just bought it the day before), the second time I opened some ribs that I bought a couple days before and immediately put in the freezer, and they were rotten and stunk up my whole house, and last time I bought some hamburger buns that ended up being moldy. We ended up having lettuce wrapped burgers. Although overall I like the store I won't be shopping there anymore unless it's for 1 or 2 last minute items since it's so close to my house. I don't want to buy any more food that I'm going to have to throw away or return because it's rotten. 3 stars because the store is always clean and the employees are friendly enough, but I can see why there is hardly ever anyone in there. read more

They are lucky they get 1 star because I had to. We went to use the self check out because the lines were long and there wasn't enough cashiers. I get its super bowl Sunday I expected crowds. My boy friend and I asked the last at the self check out standing up front if she could check out Id's or ring us up. Right away she barks at us the state law in a loud voice... She wouldn't even listen to what my boyfriend was Askin. Maybe instead of barking state law that we didn't know about say" I'm sorry but legally I can't ring you up and this is why" instead of raising a voice for a simple question we were asking. Then she's glaring at us in line and as we are walking out she stares at us saying have a nice day... Seriously you said that just to get a rise out of us. We turned around and said maybe next time you should listen to us and not just start spouting stuff off and she continued to argue so we walked away and she says Loudly " well YOU have a nice day" learn customer service lady we would have understood a nice response but not some loud rude response in front of everyone. When we told her all we were asking was if she could ring us up and she said well this also considered self check out (in a very smart ass tone) Right cause we were supposed to know that when that's only YOUR register. I have worked customer service 13 + years and there are way better ways to handle yourself instead of standing up there proud you made your statement and we were not even rude to you! I only shop here because it is the closest store to my house and that is the ONLY reason. Service is terrible here. I was in the other day and had the checker (an older lady, can't remember her name) argue with me over whether or not my bottle of wine had to be in a bag or not. I was trying to save the bag and she informed me that it was the law that I have one, it WAS a law which has since been changed I believe as of last year. She proceed to argue with me about it so I finally just took the bag. I then tried to pay with lottery tickets and she acted like it was a huge inconvenience, let out a huge sigh and then grumbled something about how I was holding up the line. Also the deli staff are not friendly at all, any time I try to get deli food the clerk will look up, give me a dirty look and continue whatever it is they are doing and then a few minutes later they'll come over to help, but you can tell that they're unhappy about it. On more than one occasion I have walked away from the counter because the clerk is too busy doing something else behind the counter to acknowledge that I am even there. The only reason I'm giving 2 stars is because of the convince of the location. You guys might want to educate your staff on the liquor laws for California, a bag is no longer required on alcohol purchases. read more
