I actually really like and recommend Sapporo. It's a little hole in the wall place that I think gets overlooked. The food is good, and the atmosphere is nice too. Not a place where younger children would have a lot of fun, but still good. I love that they have both Japanese and Korean food. Plus, I was pleasantly surprised that the bulgogi was really good. My family has been going to Sapporo for quite some time. Their sushi is consistently good. The missus loves their galbi, even if it's sliced a bit too thick for her taste sometimes. Their addition of ramen to the menu was a great idea. I've had a couple of their choices, and all were rich and filling. If you have an adventurous spirit and enjoy sushi rolls, be certain to get the 'Trust Me' option. My daughter will get two 'Trust Me's and hasn't had a complaint about any of them. Not only was the egg super over cooked to the point where the yolk was more grey than not, when I asked for a new egg the waitress informed me that I'd get the same egg if she took it back because that's how they were cooked. Even with the wide variety of options the menu offers Sapporo's chefs are always willing to create something different or new. The atmosphere is relax and great for conversation, so it's a place we like to take our friends and family. We have a few staples that we love to get - the fried rice is incredible, my wife loves her all veggie "Shrek" roll, and I will go with the tuna on spicy tuna "Cherry Blossom" roll (if I don't create something unique with the chef), or I might enjoy one of their many delicious and generously filling hot dishes. Walked in on a Friday night and was served immediately. Our food was DELICIOUS. the sushi was incredible. I chose multiple vegetarian rolls, including the sweet potato tempura and the white roll. This was our first visit to Sapporo. When we entered, two staff members were harvesting seeds from the Korean chives growing among the plants in large pots beside the entryway. They said the were going to save them for next year, that the Korean variety grew thinner than they could buy elsewhere. It was a glimpse of the pride and detail they put into their meals. My wife and I both opted for bulgogi: she chose the beef and I the spicy pork. The server was proud to show us how to make rolls with the large lettuce leaves, kimchi, steamed rice, and bulgogi. It was delicious. The kimchi was excellent! I should have ordered extra. The meal was generously portioned, but we both enjoyed them so much we ate it all. The server was very attentive to us. Always have a great experience here. The sushi chef is very quick and always pleasant. My favorite roll is the "Trust me". He will use the freshest and best cuts of fish available and it's always delicious. Definitely sit at the bar and enjoy the experience. They have a huge sushi, and sashimi menu as well as cooked foods and dishes. I haven't tried anything but the raw sushi and sashimi though so I can comment on how they taste. If you want something special or original you can also order whatever you want directly with the sushi chef. He will customize your creation before your eyes. The place isn't stuffy or pretentious. It's laid back, casual, friendly, and understated. Not usually super crowded (which is great) so you get lots of one on one attention from the staff. read more

Some of the worst if not the worst sushi I've ever had in my travels across the country try. The rice was dry and tasted almost stale. The avocados were way too unripe and should not have been used. I ordered 3 different rolls and only managed to finish a total of maybe 1 between the 3. I've never left so much sushi behind at a restaurant, ever. I'd never, ever go back. I loved how they had traditional Korean food along with the Japanese menu. Any place with Ramen is legit in my book. I'm so happy to have found this hidden gem in Madison. Located in a strip mall next to a Mattress firm and across from the Home Depot you would not expect much from this place it does not have the look of some of Nashville more recent entries into Asian cuisine scene, but Sapporo has been chugging along for over twenty years and they do Asian comfort food right. The interior is just a little dark with low seating and a lived in feel that compliments the menu (which is extensive) and full of staples large servings and simple preparations. You will find a mix or dishes mostly Korean and Japanese inspired. The Tempura is well done and I've tried the Ramen and found it to be a good quality entry. Its not high class chef inspired cuisine but rather the type of Ramen made in homes all across Japan just good flavored broth noodles and some scallions. They have a selection of Korean stone pots and bibimbap as well. I'm looking forward to trying the Kimichi. I must mention the sushi though. Nashville is probably never going to have world class sushi given our location but as far as sushi goes in this town Sapporo's is excellent. The menu is huge, full of creative offerings. Some rolls are a little out there like the "egg-roll roll" described quite succinctly as "inside egg-roll outside rice" and a roll drenched in Yum Yum sauce that was never-the-less enjoyed by my non sushi fanatic friend. The majority are creative twists on old classics done by some really skilled chefs and at a price point that is hard to find. I got the chef's choice roll and was not disappointed at all and surprised by the very creative use of mango. Finally and importantly they are friendly. When you walk in everyone greets you, while you are there they check on you all the time, and when you leave every one takes a moment to say good bye and ask you back soon. It really is like eating in someones kitchen. Oh and Cokes served with refills thank you! Bottom line, other places like Two Ten Jack can do indvidual dishes better but no one puts togetehr a quailty meal at decent prices that i've found yet. Give Sapporo a try. read more

Not that good. Went during dinner time and the prices are too high for the quality of the food. Ordered shrimp tempura as a appetizer, it had way too much breading and was soggy. I also ordered 3 sushi rolls and one of them had way too much sauce on it, it was very overbearing. All of my rolls were portly made. They all fell apart as I tried to eat them. Our waiter only visited our table twice, once to deliver our food and the second for the check. I had to point out that I needed a refill. Won't be going back. read more
