I'd heard so many good things about Arigato Sayonara, but they still managed to blow my expectations out of the water. I've been twice in the last couple of months and each visit has been a mix of wonderful service, delicious food, and fun! They're incredibly thoughtful with families--my toddler felt so comfortable, and they even checked to make sure he'd be okay with the fire before starting the show. The food is seasoned perfectly, the ingredients are super fresh, and the yum yum sauce is so good. The restaurant itself is clean, spacious, and welcoming. Despite the place being pretty much packed when we got there, we were seated quickly. Once the chef got started, we got enormous servings and the food was fantastic. We came here almost two weeks ago to celebrate a birthday and it was a nice experience overall. We had hibachi and they have one room that's set up for hibachi and the other is set up for sushi. Our chef was fun and entertaining and he cooked our steak perfectly. The flavor was very good on the rice, vegetables, steak, and shrimp, and it was really nice to get a small side of noodles with the meal. Service was very good overall too and our waitress was attentive. Drinks were tasty and my wife enjoyed her lemon drop martini while I had a Kirin. This restaurant was confusing to me. I was in town visiting another friend from Ohio. This was a central location for us to meet. When we arrived we decided that Japanese was the choice for dinner. Now I must preface this review by saying that I am actually half Japanese and grew up in Japan as a child for five years. Therefore, I have eaten a lot of authentic Japanese sushi in my life. So as far as this restaurant is concerned, the exterior does not give off the greatest of vibes. It is plain an sort of hidden as it is in a strip mall setting. Then as you enter the restaurant you see Teppanyaki grilles (introduced to America by Benny Hana) to the US to get people to eat Japanese food. The grille is not something that you find in most Japanese restaurants. We ate at the sit down side of the restaurant and ordered sushi. The restaurant was very humid, and good sushi is kept chilled even when it comes to the table. I ordered Unagi (Eel) as I do in any sushi restaurant to gauge the quality of the food. The Unagi was not very cold but not warm enough that it couldn't be eaten. I also ordered a Chi Ra Chi Don (Raw sushi over Sushi Vinegar Rice). The quality of the food was decent, but not outstanding either. So these are a few of the reasons that I only have them 3-Stars. read more

I start by saying our waitress was absolutely lovely and did a great job. My husband ordered the chicken bento box which was fine. I ordered the shrimp tempura bento box with the Alaska roll. I first ate one of the shrimp and it was tasty, but then I took a bite of the roll, and decided I couldn't eat anymore of the roll because the fish was very clearly not fresh, so I thought, "well, I'll eat the rest of the shrimp and the vegies and rice and just quietly pay and go," but then I saw that one of the other shrimp had the poop vein wrapped around it and deep fried, so I cut open the last shrimp and it also still had the poop vein in it. Part of the deep fried poop vein landed on my rice, so at that point, there really wasn't anything left of my lunch that was edible. I told my waitress that I couldn't eat it or pay for it, and she said that she would let her manager know. The manager came over and I told her about the problems and without saying a word, she angrily snatched the bento off of the table, scattering chopsticks while my husband was still eating. I then could hear her talking about me from across the room. When she returned, she informed me that the shrimp were always like that and next time not to order it. She was obviously angry with me and didn't even address the sushi. I told her that we would not be returning, and she said, "well that is your choice." A true hidden gem tucked away in an assuming plaza in Madison (located next to Longhorn steakhouse)! I've been here several times now, a couple times before their expansion and a couple after. While I can't give a review on the hibachi side- I have nothing but good things to say about their sushi! A friend introduced me to this spot pre pandemic and I have been hooked ever since. You will not find a spot that offers a better deal while also maintaining the quality of food! At least I personally haven't. Is this the absolute best sushi? Hard to say as ultimately we are landlocked here in Nashville, but none the less there's still good and bad sushi to be had. I prefer only the good kind but to each their own. Arigato has the good stuff when you combine the price point, taste and quality. Arigato offers an impressive variety of really creative rolls. You can also see pics on their walls which is very helpful visually speaking. I think this spot is particularly good for beginners as there are plenty of rolls that are not raw yet still has lots of good raw options. I personally like both so I appreciate their offers. Moreover, Arigato is the only menu I have come across offering a choice in the rolls you want for your sushi combo meal! Meaning you have a list of rolls to choose from for a certain price point. I.Love.This. sooo much! Most sushi places will offer a combo but on their terms, such as a California with either philly, spicy tuna/salmon or alaksan roll - for example. For me I like picking from their Arigato special sushi menu- either two or three rolls for under $25 (a steal!) The price point honestly can't be beat when you choose one of these combos. A la carte, the rolls are similar to any other place you might find sushi. The deal really lies within these combos. Beyond sushi, I can tell some of their other hibachi or bento combos are also decently priced as well. Lastly, the service has always been pleasant here. All the ladies are alway kind and attentive. Everything was decent, but in the menu it states the orange blossom roll comes with eel sauce and massago, but it didn't. It also states the California comes with massago and it didn't. This restaurant is always a favorite. The first time I ever went my best friend got choked because of her throat closing from acid reflux and the chef gave her the Heimlich maneuver . They are always kind and the restaurant is always clean. Today I decided I wanted chicken fried rice, fried soft shell crab & crab and cream cheese croquettes. The least favorite thing to me was the crab and cream cheese croquettes, I thought they'd be more similar to rangoons from Chinese restaurants and they weren't sweet like them. The fried rice wasn't the best I've had but it was still tasty and a big portion. The star of the night was the soft shell crab, it was light and crispy and the sauce paired well with it. Horrible customer service. Almost empty on a Sunday night, we just walked in and were seated immediately by ourselves on the side of the hibachi table. Our 6 year old was with us and we were telling him how cool it is to watch them cook the food etc so we asked if we could sit in front of the cook instead of the side so he could see more since it's his first time and was so excited. Waitress responded "well you can wait for 10 minutes and if no one else comes in then you can move to the other seats". Uh what? We were there first and literally already knew what we wanted to eat but we needed to wait 10 minutes to see if anyone else came in and then you will allow us to move to a different seat at a table we are already sitting at?! I was clearly annoyed...call me a Karen if you want but I was surprised that this would even be an issue and tell us to wait on top of that. Another waitress came and said "oh ok yes you can move." Thanks. Thanks for the favor. We got up and left. With it being so empty I am just floored they wouldn't be happy to accommodate a simple request for a little boy who was excited...again AT THE SAME TABLE, we literally wanted to scoot down a few seats. We have been here once before a year and a half ago....I totally forgot, my husband remembered and reminded me that it was mediocre service last time when we got in the car so yep we don't recommend and will never return. read more

The place is delicious. It's hidden in a shopping center in the Rivergate area. Inside it's small but we didn't have a wait. Parking is plenty. We sat at a table when you first walked in and it was very cold every time the door opened because it's not a large restaurant. I ordered a red eye roll and a deep fried Philadelphia roll and they were both so good. You can choose 2 rolls with soup and salad for $17.99 which is a good deal. Kabuto was my regular place until they raised the prices and made it impossible to eat there for lunch under $20. I was lost and heartbroken until a co-worker mentioned Thanks-Goodbye. I was intrigued and tagged along for a nice change. I was not disappointed. It should be noted, they raised their prices a few months ago to pay for the renovation(I assuming). But the prices are still very reasonable for lunch. Though you cannot use a credit card if your order is under $10. So be prepared when you go to either pay cash or get enough food to bring you over the threshold. My only Con is that because it's become popular'ish it is slower and I cannot get in an out in my lunch hour. I would LOVE to eat there more, but I cannot be late back to work by more than a few minutes if at all. I don't fault them at this, when you make everything fresh at the time it's ordered it is going to take time which they do. I wish I had more time to enjoy it. What a pleasant little spot this is. It is comfortable, very well maintained, extraordinarily clean and, as it is in a strip mall, there is a ton of parking. The tables are large, the chairs can be sat on without one getting a case of numb bum, and they obviously take Covid 19 precautions seriously...and that is a huge benefit for people like us who have no immediate desire to die. The menu is comprehensive. We called in for lunch and ordered hot green tea (there is a good wine and beers list) and we shared vegetable gyoza, vegetable tempura, miso soup, sushi and spicy ramen noodles. The food was all very good and the tempura batter was exceptional. There were a few traditional omissions such as no lotus root...and a few odd substitutions which featured cucumber. But, even so, this did not detract from the overall experience and probably reflected the seasonal fresh veggies, which is a good thing. This is not an expensive restaurant. I wouldn't go here again, even if it was free! We were there to celebrate our grandson's graduation from high school last night. Our son-in-law ordered asteak hibachi dinner to share with his 2 young daughters. Our grandson that we were celebrating also ordered a steak and chicken hibachi dinner. The server understood the orders and the chef was also told the same when he verified the meals with everyone before he started cooking. After he cooked the 2 steaks, the chef cut them up and gave 1 steak to our son-in-law and split the other steak between our granddaughters. Our grandson didn't get any steak. When our grandson asked about his steak he then realized what had happened and tried to brush it off. I didn't realize what had happened and asked our grandson where his steak was. The 2 guys discussed it with the chef, and the chef told them that he gave 1 steak to our son-in-law and split 1 steak between the girls. He then realized his error and wasn't happy at all that about the meal sharing and that it messed him up. He shook his head, obviously quite unhappy and didn't say or do anything else! Our son-in-law realized what had happened and gave his steak to our grandson - so he didn't have a protein then. Our grandson and son-in-law were then embarrassed about the situation and how it turned out. The chef just continued cooking the rest of the food and ignored all of us. The server heard what was going on and came over and explained to the chef how it was supposed to be split, which was exactly what he had down on his paper and what he discussed with each of them before the meal when he verified with everyone what they had ordered. I asked our server if we could get another steak so everyone would have food. The chef was mad when our server brought him the steak and he had to cook it. We were in the middle of the restaurant and it was obvious that there was a problem. There was no apology from the chef or a manager or anyone. The "fried rice" was barely fried. It was still looked white. The chef also didn't ask anyone if they wanted spicy fried rice either. It looked like that he was doing the bare minimum - just what he had to do to get by and get done. He didn't interact with us at all except when he had to ask something about our food. I ordered sushi instead of hibachi. One of the rolls I ordered was supposed to have crunchy salmon skin. I asked the server about the crunchy salmon skin before I ordered it. I verified that there would be crunchy salmon skin on the roll because it was new to me. I asked the server and she went and asked the manager who came over and told me that the roll had salmon in it and the skin was crunchy. It wasn't crunchy in my roll at all and it wasn't supposed to have salmon in it. I didn't see or taste any in it either. She asked if I wanted crispy salmon skin on it and I told her I did. She took my plate and brought it back with a pale yellow topping. She said that was the crunchy salmon skin. It wasn't like any crunchy salmon skin I've had before. It was pale yellow and more like a semi-crunchy breadcrumb instead of crispy fried salmon skin. Our server was very nice and did a great job. We were really pleased with her. The menu is huge and had a lot of great options, I particularly liked that they have several versions of udon and ramen. I wasn't super impressed with the udon I ordered, unfortunately. Worst dining experience in a long time. Absolutely shitty customer service ! I took my boys to celebrate tonight and we ordered 2 sushi rolls, 3 arigato rolls and a ramen bowl. As soon as the food came out , i noticed one of the arigato rolls missing. No big deal, right? So i told my kids they can start with the other plate until our server comes back. When he did few minutes later, i told him about the missing roll and he went to get his boss lady instead. She came speak pretty loud saying that they served all 3 rolls and we already ate it. The area where her finger pointed at still has decorating yum yum sauce. Untouched. I am sitting there with my 3 young kids looking like a criminal all of the sudden. Everyone is looking at us . So i asked for to go bag and check. I just wanted to leave this hell hole before i flip . But Noooo she won't stop trying to explain how they have been in business for 17 years and never lied!! I know a lot of people say don't eat sushi in landlocked states. That is total bullshit. This place is delicious. Being from LA, it's not the best sushi I've ever had, but it is still absolutely bomb for mid Tennessee. It's right next to the Pier 1 Imports. I got the Arigato 3 roll special for $20.99 (soup and salad included). I got he dragon roll, shrimp tempura, and I forgot he other. All were bomb! You can usually tel how good a Japanese restaurant is by how good the miso soup is. Some places it's either too bland or too salty. This place was spot on, the salad included with the special was also very crisp and refreshing. If you want sushi, and you are close to Nashville... this is the place to go! Forget all those chain restaurants that flood the area... come here for some tasty sushi! read more
