Sexist and discriminatory. I reached out to Sanz Construction in 2013 to receive an estimate for remodeling my backyard. The person who arrived for the meeting was an older Latino gentleman who was very demeaning towards me and my female landscape architect. His demeanor was incredibly dismissive and even though the plans were complete and accurate, he said they were garbage and he would not be able to use them for the job. He questioned every little decision I made regarding the look of the backyard as well as my plan for drainage. The entire meeting was very tense and he did not even follow up with a return phone call or an actual estimate. I ended up going with another male Latino contractor who was friendly and understanding and offered constructive criticism when needed and was not dismissive towards myself or any of my female designers. I will never call Sanz Construction again, although I live in Alhambra and prefer to use local vendors. I also encourage women to boycott this business as well and not endorse their culture of demeaning females. Yes, some women actually own their own home and do not need a man with them at construction-related appointments. We can make our own decisions, thank you very much. read more

As people mentioned, the prices are reasonable. I hired them to do some roof work, and was happy with the price. I'm not exactly a roof expert, so I can't comment on the quality of the work, but they did back it up with a multi yr guarantee of no leaks. I will use them again. Only gave 4 star instead of 5 because: -workers left after completing the job without even letting me know... thought that was kind of weird -I didn't have a direct contact no for the owner (Richard). I had to contact him via the office. This would be okay, except for the fact that the office is closed on the weekend when I was getting the work done. I had a small project of cementing the rest of my patio. A good friend of mine recommended Sanz construction. Sanz had remodeled his kitchen and did an excellent job. I contacted Sanz construction for an estimate and Richard showed up right on time as scheduled. He emailed me an estimate and a week later the work was done. We love our new office! Our office was vacant for a good 5 years before we signed on a 5 year lease so there was a lot of remodeling. We did new flooring, put an extra wall and even added a private restroom. The construction did take longer than originally plan, but that's more because Monterey Park permits are hard to get and we did the construction during Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday. I have to say, we love our flooring the most and all our clients that come in always ask about it. Sanz Construction even designed a built-in reception desk for us. The wife and I had some backyard flooding from the heavy rains last week that was threatening to do some damage to my home. We realized that the water wasn't being diverted properly. So I decided to see what we could do and I started to search for contractors. I came to Yelp first. The first place that comes up is Sanz Construction. Initially I had some reservations because there are 3 reviews from non-members. But let me assure you, after setting up the appointment and meeting with Richard Sanchez, we realized these guys were the real deal. Richard took a look at our problem, told us why we had the problem, and how he was going to cure it. The next day, we got a quote on a couple of options and a detailed explanation on what was going to be done. We made sure that they were bonded, insured, and were in good standing with the Better Business Bureau. Everything looked good, we called Richard to start ASAP. In about 4 days, the work was complete, no mess and no worries. We're waiting for some heavy rain tomorrow to test the new drainage system out. Though it was a simple drainage system, it took some hard labor to complete so I'm pretty confident that I won't have any issues. We didn't shop for anyone else because we were impressed with their creditials and presentation. Sure, you can go with Joe Smoe who'd charge alot less, but to get something done right and professionally, we were willing to pay the extra money. Sanz Construction helped us build our dream home. We would absolutely recommend them to any family and would use them again in a heartbeat. We worked with Sanz Construction to completely overhaul our South Pasadena home. This was a massive undertaking, requiring expertise in every facet of home reconstruction. In addition, our house was a historical home, which meant the remodel + addition of a master bedroom/walk-in closet/master bath had to follow very strict guidelines. We interviewed at least 6 contractors for our job. It was readily apparent that most of them could not handle the historical requirements of our project. When Richard Sanchez walked into our rebuilding project, it was clear that he had the knowledge and experience to get the job done. One of the greatest assets any GC will have is his team. The Sanz team is first-rate. In particular, we would give superior grades to his wood finishing guy Jerry (meticulous and a great eye for color), electrician Stan (super nice guy, already referred him to two of my friends), plumbing Caesar, and carpenter Beto (this guy is a magician). Everything else was also solid to above average. Richard also gave us great referrals for hardwood flooring, gutter work, drainage, security system, and a custom shower door contractor. Gabriel was our project lead, and he was a good listener, communicative, and very patient. We had a great working relationship with Gabriel. This was the first-time my wife and I had ever remodeled a house.  We had our fair share of 'change orders.'  However, we can say confidently that Richard's team will get you across the finish line with high-quality work (construction AND finishing).  All-in-all, we paid a very fair price for our start-to-finish project and love our beautiful home. We passed our inspections pretty smoothly, too. Such a great feeling! If there was a star rating that could rate this company as "a dream come true" I would give it to them. No Job is Too Big! No Job is Too Small! My home falls under the small category. But, holding true to their slogan, it didn't matter the size of the job, they were able to handle it. I have used this company twice now. 1. To replace an old water heater and to redo shower fixtures. 2. Redo my roof and seal leaks then repair water damaged walls and paint. Trustworthy, professional, dependable, efficient, clean, courteous, friendly, reasonable, and everything else you would and could hope for in a construction company. The work was completed around my work schedule and in the time frame given. The estimates were completely reasonable and the jobs expertly done. Each step was walked through and all work was explained. And the end of each day I couldn't even tell they were in house as they were professional and cleaned up well! I haven't had a problem with any of the work done (not like my previous contractors that wouldn't even come back out to check damage they did - old story - I don't want to talk about it). They told me it would take a couple of days, but they sent more than 3 guys over to finish up my roof repair in 1 day! I've gotten quotes higher and estimated days to complete longer from other companies, but Sanz Construction came through with shining colors and wiped out all of my worries! Hired Sanz to work on a fair amount of remodeling for our home and was very happy with the results. 1) Remove load bearing wall 2) Remove cabinets and wall above stove 3) Switch a closet area from Room A to Room B (required re-framing) 4) Fix tiling in all areas where walls were changed 5) Move all electrical from walls that were removed, and move other electrical outlets 6) Texture all new walls and walls where electrical was patched 7) Remove all acoustic ceilings 8) Install recessed lighting in various rooms 9) Repair termite damage to French Doors The work Sanz did is amazing. We have had earthquakes since he removed the load bearing wall and placed a beam in the ceiling yet there are no cracks. Sanz worked on multiple electrical changes and all are working properly and the wall patches done for electrical changes are unnoticeable. The tiling turned out awesome and is my personal favorite since it is all properly leveled and done with good planning for where to place the cuts. The thing I keep reading in other reviews is that contractors often stop working for weeks at a time or delay and ask for more money. Sanz didn't try to pull off any shenanigans and instead took care of all work professionally according to our agreement. His workers were there every day throughout the project and on a few Saturdays when necessary due to unexpected delays. One example delay occurred when the tiling guys uncovered some damp cement while replacing the existing hallway tiles. Instead of continuing with the tiling and covering up a future catastrophe, Sanz notified me and offered to call a plumber. Within hours, the plumber fixed the issue and the tiling guys were back on track. As it turns out, we had a foot long rotted pipe behind the wall of a bathroom that leaked underneath to the hallway - I would never have known until the wall and baseboard rotted through or the pipe burst! One concern I had as I was adding on to the project scope was that "extra charges" would appear on the final bill or Sanz would forget some of our verbal agreements - but in the end the bill was exactly as discussed with very reasonable charges for the problems that came up like the plumbing issue ($150). It has been a few months since all work was completed and my wife and I are still very happy with the end results. We recently had our bathroom remodeled. We found Sanz Construction here on Yelp and were impressed with the great reviews. Our experience however was vastly different from what's posted here. Sanz Construction went over schedule (two weeks), did a horrible job and made no effort to remedy the situation. You want to stay away from this contractor. The quality of the work is abyssmal. A good example is a wall that Richard's workers built to create a shower stall. The wall is not perpendicular to the original wall, but instead shoots out at a 95 degree angle- so that the front of the shower stall is an inch wider than the rear of the shower stall. it is obvious in the floor tiles both inside and outside of the shower. The base molding that should have been even with the shower dam shot out at a 100 degree angle. When the job was "completed" by Richard's standards, I brought the crooked wall to his attention. He claimed that the wall was uneven because the original bathroom walls are uneven. He later changed his story claiming that it was an optical illusion. He then asked me to allow him the opportunity to fix the situation and if I was not pleased with the job, that he would give me credit or even install glass doors on the shower at no cost to me. He said that his ultimate goal was that I be pleased with the job. He sent a worker a couple of days later; the worker adjusted the base molding. A few days after, Richard billed me (via email) for the full balance due. He "apologized for the mix up" on the wall, but stated that he expected the full payment. He stated that he "had done his best" to fix the problems. I responded that the job was not completed to my satisfaction, and offered a lesser amount. He would not accept anything less than the full amount. Aside from the shower wall, here's a partial list of other things that went wrong: - the floor tile is laid unevenly- the design in the tile disappears from one end of the bathroom to the other. -the paint job is uneven- there are paint runs in different areas of the wall and uneven lines where the wall meets the tile. -the toilet was placed too close to the wall- leaving no room for the toilet paper dispenser as originally planned. -the toilet water tank was left loose. -the grout in the shower is cracking from one end of the shower to the other, two weeks after the shower was completed. -the tubing under the installed sink is leaking. - there is tape scum left all ver the hardwood floors and the entrance way. Aside from the shabby work, the bathroom was left a mess and there was no final walk through- probably because the contractor was ashamed of the quality of the job. read more

Richard seems nice but when I questioned some of his plans he got very irate-- It's my home, I'm going to ask questions especially if I'm spending $$ on your company. Richard and Sanz construction is timely, prompt and on-budget and on-schedule which is really a rare find with contractors. Plus no problems with communication because Richard always answers his cellphone and checks email frequently throughout the day. No surprise that they have been in business for over 20 years. We had electrical work and HVAC put in without a hitch. I am a very thorough consumer-- asked tons of questions, researched on yelp and other forums and had our inspector friend take a look at the final work and Richard was good with it all. The city codes had required some changes to be made and Richard took c are of it quickly without extra charge. I really appreciated his thoroughness. In terms of local, affordable, quality contracting services, you just can't beat Sanz Construction, Inc. First of all, what everyone says is true: whether the job is big or small, Richard has an amazingly efficient crew that will make use of every moment that they are on the clock. We recently had all the tilework and fixtures in our bathroom replaced along with the flooring and cabinets in the kitchen. It was a pretty big job and we gave them an extremely short window of time in which to complete it -- but they managed to finish the entire job, plus or minus a few extra days due to inclement weather and inevitable schedule snafus. And now our rooms look fabulous and we couldn't be happier with the attention to detail that the workers gave to our walls, floors and ceilings. The job was a complete demo of the bath and they had sealed off the bathroom, taped paper over everything in order to control the dust. They seemed to really appreciate the nuances of our household (no loud music, didn't walk anywhere in shoes without paper on the floor, kept the garage clean and orderly with their supplies) At the end of each day his guys cleaned up everything and hauled out the garbage, and at the end of the job they cleaned up, moved all the furniture back and cleaned out our driveway. In my experience this is not the norm. They helped our post war pepto bismol pink tiled bath look like a classic modern magazine cover. Richard was always available to us and he introduced us to each of his workers personally the day before they came to complete the floors, tiles, plumbing, etc. This put me at ease about who was coming into my home for the day. Laura is the business end of Sanz construction, and just as personable and nice. Before the project started we had a detailed job description itemizing every part of the job, an agreed payment schedule at each portion (once demo was complete, once tiling completed, once fixtures complete, once whole job complete). The prices were reasonable, and Richard explained every part of it with me. The contract was emailed the day after Richard came in to inspect for a quote. I was impressed that he and Laura understood exactly the feel and look of my house, and because they knew Alhambra, they knew what would accent my house for a future home buyer if I decide to sell. Once my tiles came in he immediately came into work and the work impressed me so much I decided to get hardwood floors in the kitchen and paint done with Sanz. Unbelievable!! This is first time i heard of a company that charges $300 for a quote to repair a wall.

Getting construction work can sometimes be a nightmare, but Sanz Construction made it a pleasant dream! We have hired them for several projects at our house (kitchen remodel, driveway replacement, repair of our deck) and we could not have been more pleased. They come when they say they will come - an important thing for us! They finished all of the jobs within the estimated time or within a few days; when there were going to be delays, they let us know. They also let us know if more work was needed, but without pressure and sales tactics. The workers were polite and cleaned up as much as possible at the end of each day. I can't tell you how many compliments I have gotten on my driveway. I highly recommend them for small and large projects.
