My wife and wanted to add a 500 sq foot addition to our home in Monrovia. We interviewed about ten different contractors at the beginning of the process. The biggest obstacle with a lot of contractors is that many have a hard time communicating the process and all the steps involved. When Elon came for his initial consultation, my wife and I were really impressed with how well he walked us through the whole building process and what we needed to look out for. His explanation of the whole building and payment schedule convinced us to go with Romano Builders. During the building process, the high winds and fires hit. Thankfully we only had to evacuate for half a day. However, he winds did some serious damage to our water heater that was not related to the building process. As a result of the damage, we had no hot water and we would not be able to continue living in our home during the construction process. I was really impressed by how Eli, the owner of the company, came out and tried to fix the water heater himself. He spent a lot of time and effort when he didn't have to. Once he realized the water heater was permanently damaged, he rearranged the building process and preinstalled a new water heater into a temporary location so we would have hot water during the building process. We saved a ton of money because we didn't have to check into a hotel. Later, there was a problem with our AC. Once again, Eli came out and really got his hands dirty trying to solve the problem. My wife and I noticed that their main goal throughout the building process was to make us happy. They also are really good at the permitting process. For some reason, the City of Monrovia was really dragging their feet when it came to approving the plans. I went down and checked myself and they kept delaying the process because the plan checker quit. On the day they were supposed to approve the plans, the city once again extended their timeline another couple of weeks. Eli went down there and got the plans approved the same day. This made the project move more quickly. Part of the addition was a new bathroom. Their attention to detail really had an impact on the final result. The outcome was magnificent. Every contractor has to sub out certain jobs. I noticed that all the guys they work with are extremely meticulous. I can't recommend them enough. One final thing. We wanted to remain living in our home during the building process. Many contractors said no because it's a major inconvenience for them. Water and electricity must be turned on and off more frequently when the house is inhabited during the building process. Plus, they have to put up all these dust barriers they ordinarily wouldn't have to if the house was vacant. But Elon was very accommodating. We did not have to go without water or electricity for more than a four-hour period during the whole building process. Actually, we did not have electricity for four days after the winds and fires, but that had nothing to do with them. That was our whole neighborhood. Now that all the work is done, I have to say that I would recommend Romano Builders in a heartbeat. We even recommended them to a friend of my wife for a small job during the building process in Highland Park and they delivered there as well. As far as cost, I thought the price of construction was very fair. They broke everything down in a payment schedule and we paid as every part of the schedule was completed, so there were no surprises along the way. I realize that my review is a bit wordy, but I just wanted to leave a thorough review. I noticed that some people say these reviews are fake. My name is Eddie Trujillo, and I live in Monrovia, California. Just in case anyone doubts the validity of my entry here.

Nearing the end of the living room remodel

I've vetted over 15 construction companies. I checked reviews, I looked up their licenses. At the end of the day, you need to trust your gut. It was important to me that who I went with had workman's comp insurance, had their license for over 10 years, and had no complaints against their license. Talk to your friends or family and ask them how their experiences have been with GCs. It's usually not positive. It was basically impossible for me to get a recommendation, which is why I had to look on my own. So there's extra anxiety spending a lot of money with someone you've never worked with and someone who didn't come with a personal referral. Believe me, I went through A LOT of sleepless nights before I landed with Romano Builders. This project was 2 big jobs. An ADU remodel, from a previous garage. Also redoing our living room in the main house. The previous owner did some really shady work, that we ended up re-doing the right way so that it was permitted and safe. When I met Eli (owner of Romano Builders) originally, he seemed like a good guy and that he knew his stuff. He took his time to come out and look at my needs. He asked a lot of questions, reviewed our design plans. He provided a quote when he said he would. He wasn't the least expensive, and he wasn't the most expensive. Before I signed on with them, I also toured a couple of active jobsites and spoke with other home owners. They had nothing but good things to say about Eli or the quality of the work. We started work in April and wrapped up in October. We definitely had plenty of surprises along the way -- all of which were the very "interesting" ways that the previous owner decided to do things. Eli was always upfront and honest as we went, and always explained things to me in terms I could understand. His workers were all nice to deal with, and we never had any issue with one of them not respecting our home or our space. Overall, I am very pleased with the work. I would 100% recommend Romano Builders to anyone looking for home construction work. Not everything was perfect but we're human and when something wasn't to my liking they jumped on it right away. Also, they added a TON of value on several aspects of the projects along the way. If there was a small change or something that the plans slightly overlooked -- there was never any nickel or diming. Beyond overseeing the work at the house, Eli also worked closely with the city to handle all the inspections. He was at the jobsite every day without fail. Whenever I had a question, he was always just one call or text away. Always upbeat and nice too. You gotta remember whoever you go with, you're gonna deal with them A LOT -- if they are an a-hole, you're gonna be miserable for MONTHS. You will be very happy with the work from Romano. Go with Eli.

This is our beautiful kitchen, thanks to Romano's Builders!

Romano Builders did an incredible job of installing new countertops, repainting and reinstalling drawers and cabinets, as well as installing new appliances. The process was easy and on time. Alon was especially helpful, visiting often to make sure it all got done as we expected. Angela in the office did a wonderful job of scheduling all the activities and keeping us posted about progress. Thanks so much!

Our experience with Romano Builders was beyond amazing! We decided to remodel our kitchen, and from the first meeting we felt that we are choosing Romano builders with a lot of confidence. The high level of professional, best communication, patience, and detail oriented for every single thing was unreal. There was not a single day pass by without workers coming in on time, after we got a office call day before telling us what is the scope of work and who is coming. I have no words that can describe our happiness and the high level of the quality kitchen we have. If I will need any other remodeling in the future Romano builders will be definitely my 1st choice. Thanks for the all team that make our dream to reality.

We've interviewed a few home builders, checked out their work and reputation, and eventually decided to go with Gil, Oren, and the whole team of Go Home Builders. Working with the insurance was a pain, luckily Gil had experience working with Allstate insurance before, and he helped us a lot getting the money we needed to rebuild our home. The planning process took a bit longer than what we initially planned for. The county of LA took their sweet time approving our plans. Fortunately, after 2 sets of revisions we were fully approved. The construction wasn't bad at all, they had plenty of guys working on our home at the same time. The only time there was no work, was on inspection days. The finishes was one thing that was extremely important for us. My wife and I are detail oriented and wanted to make sure we're choosing the right company to do the finish work correctly. All I can say is that they exceeded my expectations. Overall the beginning of the process was extremely emotional challenging, but the whole team of Go Home Builders made us feel like we're not alone. My wife and I are very grateful for them. I'd highly recommend.

I had a rough vision in mind for fitting a lot into a relatively small space, but wanted to see the options rendered so I could better make the big layout and design decisions. Alexis was very patient and super helpful in mocking up each iteration until we locked in the final design. Once it was time to actually break ground, Gil, Oren, Uriel, and the rest of the team were really responsive and always available by text. Unlike previous contractors we've worked with, they usually gave us an idea of what was happening the next day/week and who to expect onsite. The first ~70% of the project went really smoothly and far exceeded my expectations. Demo, framing, rough plumbing, and electrical all largely went without a hitch. We ran into some problems towards the end around communication, timeline, and subcontractor oversight -- which led to more delays when someone punctured our new in-wall toilet tank and flooded both the bathroom and bedroom. We know every construction job runs into challenges so we weren't bent out of shape by it, and we did appreciate that GHB took full responsibility for fixing the issues. By and large we were really impressed by most of their subcontractors, especially the very professional and considerate plumbing, electrical, and tiling teams! After living with our new bathroom for a while now, we can definitely say it was worth the wait, and such a huge improvement over our previous dysfunctional layout. Thanks to GHB for their great service, amazing attitude, attention to detail, and for bringing the bright, colorful bathroom of my dreams to life!

It was affordable and it would be free if you end up going with MDM for your remodel. Mike was able to get the renderings to me very quickly and made adjustments whenever we wanted to change something. Seeing the details of the renderings really brought what we were envisioning to life and helped with the design process. Fast forward to beginning of demo/construction, Mike's employees were impressively fast and efficient at their jobs, but what really impressed me was how clean they kept our property after each day of work. And that stated true throughout the entire process of our 7 month renovation. During construction, if there were any last minute changes, Mike would always try to cater to our needs whenever possible. Even if subcontractors made mistakes with anything, Mike would make sure it is fixed and perfect right away. Keep in mind, you can't rely on Mike for everything (as much as you might want to). There were many contractors with high Yelp ratings, but we found the majority of the ones we spoke with were outrageously expensive and beyond our budget. The few that were within our budget felt untrustworthy, based on conflicting information/advice other contractors had given us. Then, with met with Winpoint's owner, Jun Wang. At our initial consultation, Jun patiently spent a fair amount of time learning about the vision we had for the new kitchen. The communication was clear. His demeanor and conduct were professional. He explained what he could and couldn't (or shouldn't) do. At the end of that consultation, he submitted a quote that I thought was (finally) a good value and affordable. He said our project was going to take six weeks. When all was said and done, it took exactly six weeks to complete. No excuses for why they couldn't finish on time, despite whatever roadblocks they dealt with along the way. I appreciated that he pushed hard enough to stay on schedule. In the end, he did what he said he would do - there were no broken promises. That was important to me. Winpoint is a smaller company. It doesn't have all of the overhead larger companies have, which means, in his case, that lower operational costs get passed onto the customer. If you need something, you deal directly with Jun, not a telephone menu from hell, not a phone operator, apprentice or assistant project manager. While he did have other concurrent remodeling jobs, I found Jun to be responsive to our needs, questions and concerns and never felt we had to wait in line to get something done. Jun is very good at scheduling. We had no bottlenecks during our six weeks construction period. With the exception of cabinet and countertop installation, Jun does not use subcontractors. Electrical, plumbing, drywall, painting, tile installation, window installation, etc. are all completely within his control, which basically means that anything that doesn't go perfectly can (and does) get fixed by his employees right away and, more importantly, to his (and our) satisfaction. All of his employees are very good at their respective areas of expertise. Any minor imperfections were dealt with and rectified in a timely manner. All that survived was the roof and the exterior walls. This matters because we didn't plan on a rebuild or remodel and we were also dealing with the emotional toll of losing most of our belongings. It was a stressful time and at the same time we had to move fast to hire a contractor. The insurance company wouldn't put us up in a rental unit forever. On a recommendation from a friend, we met Karin S. of WIC Construction Services. We liked Karin immediately on a personal level. We already knew she did quality work from our friend's experience, what we needed was someone who did both quality work and was someone we could lean on and also someone who knew how to work with the insurance company. Karin was extremely patient with us, walking us through the necessary steps. There were portions of the rebuild that the insurance company was going to cover and portions that we were going to pay for on our own because as long as we were getting a whole new interior, we figured we might as well do it the way we wanted. Karin easily worked within our budget while also dealing with the insurance company every step of the way. This really mattered to us. WIC Constructions Services employs a full team. Karin couldn't have been more accommodating and worked well with a subcontractor who wasn't her regular electrician. Just as importantly, she understood that it was important to us that our friend handle the rewiring and other electrical needs and she willingly worked with our person. We ended up with a whole new house (the inside anyway) and we couldn't be more pleased. Karin had great ideas on designs and worked really hard to create something that was our style. It was really important to us that she get to know us and get to know our taste and she did that. At the same time, Karin had great ideas and suggestions - she knew so much more than we did about remodeling and because of the fire and the deadlines imposed by the insurance company we weren't able to just take as long as we wanted to make decisions. At some level, drywall is drywall. Installing cabinets is installing cabinets. Putting in tiles is putting in tiles. Unless you end up working with someone crooked, any good contractor can do the basics. (Though I have to say, Karin and her team had wonderful attention to detail.) What sets Karin and WIC Construction Services apart is the humane and supportive way you will be treated. Yes, Karin has a great eye for design and detail and her team is talented and easy to work with. But just as important is you will find yourself working with someone who not only knows her stuff, but someone who really cares about you and your project. We can't recommend Karin and WIC Construction highly enough. Five stars.
