My wife and wanted to add a 500 sq foot addition to our home in Monrovia. We interviewed about ten different contractors at the beginning of the process. The biggest obstacle with a lot of contractors is that many have a hard time communicating the process and all the steps involved. When Elon came for his initial consultation, my wife and I were really impressed with how well he walked us through the whole building process and what we needed to look out for. His explanation of the whole building and payment schedule convinced us to go with Romano Builders. During the building process, the high winds and fires hit. Thankfully we only had to evacuate for half a day. However, he winds did some serious damage to our water heater that was not related to the building process. As a result of the damage, we had no hot water and we would not be able to continue living in our home during the construction process. I was really impressed by how Eli, the owner of the company, came out and tried to fix the water heater himself. He spent a lot of time and effort when he didn't have to. Once he realized the water heater was permanently damaged, he rearranged the building process and preinstalled a new water heater into a temporary location so we would have hot water during the building process. We saved a ton of money because we didn't have to check into a hotel. Later, there was a problem with our AC. Once again, Eli came out and really got his hands dirty trying to solve the problem. My wife and I noticed that their main goal throughout the building process was to make us happy. They also are really good at the permitting process. For some reason, the City of Monrovia was really dragging their feet when it came to approving the plans. I went down and checked myself and they kept delaying the process because the plan checker quit. On the day they were supposed to approve the plans, the city once again extended their timeline another couple of weeks. Eli went down there and got the plans approved the same day. This made the project move more quickly. Part of the addition was a new bathroom. Their attention to detail really had an impact on the final result. The outcome was magnificent. Every contractor has to sub out certain jobs. I noticed that all the guys they work with are extremely meticulous. I can't recommend them enough. One final thing. We wanted to remain living in our home during the building process. Many contractors said no because it's a major inconvenience for them. Water and electricity must be turned on and off more frequently when the house is inhabited during the building process. Plus, they have to put up all these dust barriers they ordinarily wouldn't have to if the house was vacant. But Elon was very accommodating. We did not have to go without water or electricity for more than a four-hour period during the whole building process. Actually, we did not have electricity for four days after the winds and fires, but that had nothing to do with them. That was our whole neighborhood. Now that all the work is done, I have to say that I would recommend Romano Builders in a heartbeat. We even recommended them to a friend of my wife for a small job during the building process in Highland Park and they delivered there as well. As far as cost, I thought the price of construction was very fair. They broke everything down in a payment schedule and we paid as every part of the schedule was completed, so there were no surprises along the way. I've vetted over 15 construction companies. I checked reviews, I looked up their licenses. At the end of the day, you need to trust your gut. It was important to me that who I went with had workman's comp insurance, had their license for over 10 years, and had no complaints against their license. Talk to your friends or family and ask them how their experiences have been with GCs. It's usually not positive. It was basically impossible for me to get a recommendation, which is why I had to look on my own. So there's extra anxiety spending a lot of money with someone you've never worked with and someone who didn't come with a personal referral. Believe me, I went through A LOT of sleepless nights before I landed with Romano Builders. This project was 2 big jobs. An ADU remodel, from a previous garage. Also redoing our living room in the main house. The previous owner did some really shady work, that we ended up re-doing the right way so that it was permitted and safe. When I met Eli (owner of Romano Builders) originally, he seemed like a good guy and that he knew his stuff. He took his time to come out and look at my needs. He asked a lot of questions, reviewed our design plans. He provided a quote when he said he would. He wasn't the least expensive, and he wasn't the most expensive. Before I signed on with them, I also toured a couple of active jobsites and spoke with other home owners. They had nothing but good things to say about Eli or the quality of the work. We started work in April and wrapped up in October. We definitely had plenty of surprises along the way -- all of which were the very "interesting" ways that the previous owner decided to do things. Eli was always upfront and honest as we went, and always explained things to me in terms I could understand. His workers were all nice to deal with, and we never had any issue with one of them not respecting our home or our space. Overall, I am very pleased with the work. I would 100% recommend Romano Builders to anyone looking for home construction work. Not everything was perfect but we're human and when something wasn't to my liking they jumped on it right away. Also, they added a TON of value on several aspects of the projects along the way. If there was a small change or something that the plans slightly overlooked -- there was never any nickel or diming. Beyond overseeing the work at the house, Eli also worked closely with the city to handle all the inspections. He was at the jobsite every day without fail. Whenever I had a question, he was always just one call or text away. Always upbeat and nice too. You gotta remember whoever you go with, you're gonna deal with them A LOT -- if they are an a-hole, you're gonna be miserable for MONTHS. You will be very happy with the work from Romano. We did a garage conversion with Romano Builders. The ADU turned out really good and it was exactly how we expected it to be. Either the reviews are fake or I got extremely unlucky. I had the most traumatizing experience with my kitchen remodel in 2021. Yes the reviews on nextdoor, Houzz, yelp. They're all good which is why I chose them. But it was horrible. First the tiling was awful. I've attached pictures on how they set the tile before grout. It was all crooked and they didn't use spacers. They were going to grout like this and I made them take it out. There were parts crooked and uneven in the kitchen and alon and the other foreman tried to gaslight me that it was straight. Parts of tile was sticking out of the back splash and they had to pull it out too. They wasted so much tile I could've returned. The tiling on the floor is all uneven and because of it, it's cracking all over now. It hasn't even been 2 years since we did it and our kitchen is already falling apart. They put in under cabinet lighting without running it by me and I wanted a warm color not cold and they were acting so annoyed with me. The transition board is a totally different color from our flooring, they didn't even try to match it. The outlets installed were broken. I can go on and on. But the tiling was the absolute worst and that's mostly what a kitchen is. I never expected to cry so much doing a remodel. My husband fighting with alon and the other man. I just wanted it done and everyone out. Eli contacted me in February this year based off a comment I made on nextdoor about how bad the work was and came to my house. I told him he can only come if he will do something about it otherwise don't waste our time. He agreed that the work was poor and that he would be letting alon and everyone who was involved go and promised he would make it right. I've never heard from him again and his office never responded to me. We're not rich. I work hard and save so I can improve my house. This was so insulting and the worst experience. I would never recommend them. Eli said he would follow up and make things right and never did. He is not a man of his word. Save your hard earned money and go elsewhere. read more

We had our front hillside made into tiers. They did a great job and were timely about the job. When they started they had promised to fix some stuff included at no extra charge. Such as Some cracks in an existing retaining wall, and a drain that they had installed in the back yard. It was an unexpected surprise this past January when after several hours of a heavy rain, I discovered a quarter inch of water in my family room. There were multiple leak points from the sliding glass door frame of the as well as form several windows frames. After going through the usual administrative issues with the insurance company, the affected dry wall and insulation was removed. After that was done, the source of the problem became clear: the leaks were coming through multiple points of attachment of the patio cover to the outside wall of the family room. I then started to contact contractors to assess the damage and provide estimates for the project. At that time contractors were in high demand because of all the home remodeling that was initiated as we emerged from the pandemic. Most contractors were not interested since they were very busy. I finally was able to identify and interview several contractors who were potentially interested in the project. However, my initial impression was not favorable for a variety of reason, the most common being my concerns about their reliability. However, I was very fortunate to make contact with Alon Levine, one of the partners at Romano Builders, Inc. Alon promptly responded to my inquiry and showed up at my house the following day. His bid was quickly structured and we signed a contract soon thereafter; the scope of the contract included demolition /rebuilding and reattachment of a new patio cover, replacement of the sliding glass door, and drywall/painting of the damaged walls in the family room. Once the fabrication of the sliding glass door was completed, the project was initiated. During the project, I developed a good working relationship with Alon and I communicated with him regularly to give him updates of the project, allowing him to make appropriate adjustments with his work teams. This expedited the work plan process. What impressed me about Romano Builders was the experience and the responsiveness of the various work teams [sliding glass door installation, demolition, framing/revised design of the patio cover, stucco work, and painting]. I must make special mention of the work done by Miguel [painter] and Juan [framing]. I also want to recognize Eli, framing project manager, who suggested a new design for the patio cover with which I am very pleased. Finally, I want to recognize Angela and Jamie who provided the main communication channel keeping me informed of what team was coming when. They were very helpful in help create a custom work schedule to minimize disruption to my wife's home business of career counseling. I found this general contractor from Nextdoor along with other potential referrals. They provided a competitive bid, and I decided to go with them based on their positive reviews on that site to do the work on my property. Specifically, I have two patios that were leaking water into my garage and causing considerable damage to the garage ceiling, resulting in mold build-up. They outlined a solution, and then proceeded to do the necessary work to resolve the issue. The subcontractors involved included demolition of the two patios, removing existing tile and cement underlayment, replacing damaged plywood underneath, placing a fiberglass coating on the new surface along with "RedGuard" to insure a sealed surface, installing new tile with the proper slope to the drain, removing drywall from the garage ceiling, mold eradication, re-drywalling and painting. They also removed stucco on the side of my house, applied a water sealant, and then re-stuccoed making sure that water running off the roof and patios did not build up in the same place by re-working the drainage system out to the street. Bottom line, and after the last few months of rain, everything is holding up nicely and I am now "water-free." This company came out when they said they would start, and finished within their estimate. They communicated promptly with me when I called, they advised me when the next sub would be out and they performed all work competently and cleanly. And having had a prior poor experience with a general contractor who walked off the job and left me hanging, I was pleasantly surprised with the responsiveness and the quality of their work. I am now saving up for my next project. I will definitely use this contractor when that time comes. read more
