For years, we had been curious about expanding our home to include at least one additional bathroom and bedroom. We didn't know where to start. In our search for a contractor, we had three (3) contractor quotes. We settled with MC Construction and Design based on responsiveness, details and feel. During our Design Phase, we were able let our Project Manager know what we were looking for. He was able to provide a rough design immediately to get us started. Once we finalized our design, MC was able to provide a floor plan and some alternates to consider. This process was quick and smooth, and designs were submitted to the city within a couple of weeks. Our Project included the following three (3) phases: 1. Home Addition - adding 1.5 bathrooms, 1 bedroom and den (~400 sq. ft.) 2. Driveway Replacement 3. Garage Foundation Re-footing After plans were approved, the Project Manager/Owner (Mike) came to introduce himself and the team. Work began the next day. The project scope was estimated to take 6 - 8 months, they completed it in 5 months. The PM and Contractor team was quick to provide updates and answer any questions or concerns during the process. Communication was great. Whenever issues with the home were found, honest recommendations were provided, with no pressure. And also, any minor adjustments were made upon request. Everything went as well as it possibly could. That doesn't come without organization, attentiveness and hard work from the contractor team, so thank you! They restored my red oak hardwood floors In 2 bedrooms. the floors were carpeted and assumed in good shape. After removal, they discovered the floors needed serious work and they had to replace areas; they replaced, sand, stained, sealed, painted & added baseboard moulding. my floors look amazing! The project time line was extended due to extra requirements & rainy weather. Their expertise, detailed process, thorough cleanup & reasonable fee added to my overall total satisfaction! I would only add that the daily work schedule be communicated in a timely manner. read more

I had a disappointing experience with MC Construction, despite their great design ideas and a solid 3D rendering. After the initial enthusiasm, things quickly went downhill. I learned the hard way about the importance of having a clear payment schedule in the contract, as they tried to collect payments multiple times before tasks were completed. The project, which they "assured" would take one month, but contract stated three months, stretched to four months due to their inefficiency and poor management--there were no permit or weather delays. Workers rarely showed up as promised, and when they needed payment, a full crew suddenly appeared. I also faced issues with materials not matching what was in the contract. For example, they tried to charge me excessively for gravel and made it difficult to cancel a change order when I realized the price was inflated. The worst part was when we received a non-insulated patio cover instead of the insulated one we ordered, and the project manager attempted to downplay the situation and urged us to keep the incorrect product without adjusting the price. Throughout the project, there were numerous lies and miscommunications. I was promised specific brands for materials but received substitutes without proper justification. Despite their claims of not subcontracting work, it's hard to believe when different crews show up wearing various company t-shirts. After the patio incident, we wanted a receipt for the paint to make sure Dunn Edwards was to be used. The receipt shows a different company who purchased the paint, LAC Painting Inc. Also, our LA County permit shows a different electrician's company who replaced our electrical panel. At the end of the project, I asked for a discount due to the delays and stress. They agreed in exchange for not reviewing them. I refused and would gladly pay more. In the end, while the finished product looked nice, the overall experience was frustrating and stressful. Due to this, I rate them two stars. I would advise others to be extremely detailed in the contract's scope of work and consider hiring specialized contractors in each task instead. If they truly do not subcontract work then ask them to remove the mechanic's lien portion of the contract and state that none of the work will be subcontracted in writing in the contract. read more

Took me a while to review, but we completed a remodel of 2 new bathrooms and new flooring throughout the house about a year ago, as well as some other random improvements. I picked MC Construction & Design even though they were the most expensive of 3 bids, because not only were they very responsive, but it seemed like they knew what they were doing AND they said they could get it done the fastest. Their hard working guys even worked a lot of Saturdays. They did a good job and finished the project (which was a large project) only about 1-2 weeks late. They did a good job, and I would hire them again. The reason I did not give 5 stars: 1) Another big reason I picked them was the "Design" in their name. My impression was that this meant they would come up with design ideas to show us (i.e. several renderings of some design ideas that were customized to my bathrooms), which is not the case. All the "Design" means is that YOU have to pick out every bit of material and design it yourself, and then they will send you a 3D rendering of your project before they break ground. 2) There were a lot of little overpromises & white lies told by the company & sales person - which is not a big deal in the grand scheme of things, but just doesn't sit right with me. For example, they say on here that they do not subcontract, which is not true. There were several subcontractors working on various parts of the project, including hot mop, new fencing, etc. Another thing I was told by my sales person (as I made the last payment) was that if I noticed anything wrong, they would be out the next day to fix it. This was not true. It took several weeks of nagging for them to come out and fix a new door that they had installed. read more

I wanted to take a moment to write this review for MC Construction because of how happy we are with the work they completed. It all started by us reaching out to a few companies. MC Construction was quick to reach out and assign a project manager that would come out and provide us with a free quote. The project manager ended up being Gil. When he came out Gil was very professional, personable, and knowledgeable. We made a list of all the things we wanted to work on and Gil took the time to listen to each one and go over the pros and cons. We had a whole laundry list of things we wanted to complete but after going over cost and time frame we narrowed it down to a few items: floors; backsplash; new paint; floating shelves in dining area. We previously had some grey wood laminate floors that we were bored of along with carpeted stairs. The stairs were beyond repair since we have a dog and two kids. After 5 years it was either replace the carpet or get new floors. We, after chatting with Gil, decided on the latter. Gil brought us some floor samples that we fell in love with and selected. Our walls were also in rough shape. Again 2 kids, and a dog since he was a puppy equals dirty walls. Also it didn't help that the builder who originally built our home used cheap matte paint throughout the house making them very difficult to clean. Our kitchen had no backsplash and our dining area was missing something that would make it pop. Gil and his team made everything happen for us and he made the process so much easier than I thought it would ever be. He was very communicative, punctual, and a problem solver. All the teams that were hired were professional and quick in getting the job done right. It took maybe 3-4 days to get our floors done along with new baseboards throughout our house. It took maybe 2-3 days to paint the entire house, about 1.5 days for the backsplash, and 5hrs to get some custom floating shelves installed. Every single thing was done perfectly, quickly, and within budget. Although things kept coming up here and there at no point did Gil ever say he was going to need to charge us more which is something you always hear with other contractors. They bid really low to get the job and then blow the budget. Gil didn't do that, he was honest and straightforward and if there were any miscommunications between us and him he ensured to make it right and keep the project going. He kept saying "I want to make sure you guys are happy. Let me find a solution". Each time he would and never did it result in it costing us more. After each item of our project was done, Gil would come and do a walk through to ensure it was done right. Once everything was completed we did a final walk through and he assured me that if anything came up between now and when the warranty ends that he would take care of it. That's the kind of peace of mind I love and I appreciate Gil, MC Construction, and all the workers that took their time to make our home look spectacular. Mike H. was my go-to guy and he was very knowledgeable in explaining in detail what is to be done with the carpet to hardwood at my home. I had a small room and a flight of stairs that I wanted to replace the carpet with hardwood that would match the existing hardwood that's already in my home. The whole process was fairly simple, and with a bit more wait time for supplies, his team was able to get the job done fairly quickly. After seeing some finishing touches that needed some help, Mike still managed to send someone over (despite how busy they were) to come and patch it up. In the end the product looks beautiful after it was installed and matched the floors as anticipated. I've been meaning to get this work done for quite some time and I'm happy that I came to MC Construction & Design! Looking forward to the next project -- perhaps adding a backsplash in the kitchen. We hired MC Construction & Design for a kitchen and dining room remodel. Mike and his design crew stopped by and designed the kitchen and presented us with three unique designs to choose from. Once we agreed, it was game on. The daily crew of 2-4 guys worked every day from 8-6pm and knocked out the project in 6 weeks!!! Mind you, we are picky clients and these guys did not cut any corners and accommodated every request of ours. What an incredible crew! It's so hard to find a construction crew nowadays that does exactly what's promised on the blueprints without asking for an extra dime after the contract is signed. The crew was professional and incredibly respectful of our property. We had two little kids at home and we work from home so they were mindful of noise. Heck they would even let us know ahead of time so we could schedule our zoom calls around the noise! The most important part is the outcome was beautiful and let me tell you that my wife was extremely happy with the kitchen! The demo crew was fast and cleaned up nicely - they even covered my car that was parked in the garage. They pulled all permits, set up all inspections and the roof was completed in 4 days! We worked with Mario on a big interior paint project, which included A LOT of wallpaper removal (including wall paper on vaulted ceilings), wall repair, and paint. I'm really frustrated with all of the crooked salesy contractors in this town but refuse to do business with any of them. I wouldn't waste my time with this company. Reply to response .... While I would love to believe that the $250 was for a warranty that was not what Adam said at all. I haven't responded because the next contractor I contacted offered the same job for $1500 less than your quote and the same warranty. (No fake reason to Jack the price up like your company has. Hi Jessica, I did receive Mike Chen's email correspondence, I saw him post the same email correspondence and delete it on here, and did not know how to respond. I do take this seriously, I hope not to have an undue impact on your business, but also feel it is important for others to know my experience. I'd hoped and do hope that my experience with MC Construction and Design is a blip and out of the ordinary. I considered amending or taking down my review but then I read the review from Incog N, 2 stars, 2/12/19. This individual echoed my same experience. They were also offered a bribe to delete their review according to their post. They were also told your representative or supervisor was recently "let go". I am no longer willing to augment or delete my review because I feel that others need to know this is potentially a recurring pattern of business. I would consider working MC Construction & Design again with Mike if Sam and Avi are no longer with the company. I am hesitant due to my experience and extremely anxious about my warranty and the quality of work. I do fear retaliatory response if I experience a problem and have to reach out because of my review. I also am reluctant to reach out because I do not trust the quality of work I will receive based on our initial interaction. In response to your post we did ultimately pass inspection, I did receive warranties from MC Construction & Owen's Corning, and the roof is holding up so far from what I can see. When I experienced problems and reached out to the office I spoke with Andrew and Mike. My only request that I ever made was for a different supervisor, not Avi, and a different labor crew. That was never provided. I was told by Mike that they had started the work so far and they needed to be the ones to complete it. We did not pass our initial inspection with the city either. Ultimately you did have to send someone else out to do the facia properly and pass inspection. I never requested a refund or compensation other than the work that was not completed, the oven hood, and not to be charged additional costs for the scope of the project, the attic exhaust fan, the bathroom fan, that Avi tried to charge more for which Mike honored at the original price. We did find around 20 beer cans scattered around our property that were not from us. I would like to trust you and believe you about your employees not drinking on the job. Since you subcontracted the job and your employees were not the ones you sent to do the job and your supervisor was not on site the majority of the project this may be true. Regarding the broken furniture we told Mike not to worry about it, tiles are $0.20 each at Lowes and we could handle it ourselves. It was more the dishonesty and deceit of the labor crew lying about doing it to our faces and trying to conceal it. I have video of this if you would like to see it. It gave us concerns about the project overall that something so relatively minor was handled in this way. Truly I wish you the best, I hope my experience is an abnormality, and that your future customers don't encounter the same problems or experience. read more

Cannot emphasize enough what a great experience we had with Mike Chen and his whole crew at MC Construction! Just had our roof redone in cool roof per the LA code, and new driveway pavers installed. From our first contact, my daughter and I were totally impressed with the professionalism, responsiveness and communication of this company. Other quotes we got were close in price, but we both got just such a good vibe from Mike when he came to meet with us. It's a family-owned business and these guys clearly care. First up, Faustino and Miguel came and tore off the existing roof, showing up reliably and working their tails off even during the most sweltering days. They were fastidious in cleaning up after themselves each day and were pleasant and friendly. The new roof was done in less time than quoted, even given the permitting process, which MC handled seamlessly, and Mike kept me continually updated as to status. I love that they're an Owens Corning certified contractor, so our new roof comes with a 50-year warranty backed by OC itself, which gives us extra reassurance in the event anything happens with MC (which I hope it doesn't!). Faustino even helped me rescue a baby bird that had escaped a nest in our rafters but couldn't yet fly on its own! Talk about above and beyond! Next, Eduardo and Jonathan came to do our driveway. It was even hotter that week! We tried to make sure they stayed hydrated during the back-breaking work of demoing a concrete driveway, leveling the earth and laying down the beautiful new courtyard-style pavers. The end result is just gorgeous! Better than I ever envisioned my driveway could look. We are hoping to move forward with another project in our backyard in a few months, so we met with their talented 3-D design expert, Lee. She pored over a Pinterest page we'd set up with ideas and, when she dropped by a couple days later to walk through the design with us, she had just absolutely nailed the look and feel we were after. Truly hope we can make it materialize in the near future. Worked with David as our project manager. This guy has a real can do attitude and was ready to work with us. We redid our roof in the middle of the big rains we had in LA this winter and had to remove and reinstall our solar panels. These guys did an excellent job, David had originally planned for two low profile ventilation vents but I felt we needed more and he worked with us to install the adequate number at no extra cost. There were other exemples of this during the project and it made the job go smooth. Only one extra to our original cost, two of the three skylights needed changing which seemed reasonable. We were called about a month ago to get a free consultation about our backyard. Josh and his team from MC construction we're working in out backyard. We choose to go with angelus courtyard pavers for our back patio, we did raised stonewall planters with new irrigation and low voltage lights. Mc construction provided a competitive quote and completed the job 1 week before the completion date. We had a GREAT experience with Mc Construction!!! We used them for our kitchen remodel and were extremely happy with the workmanship and professionalism. We had our bathrooms done prior to meeting them and it was a totally different experience....Not that our past experience was bad but a lot different when you have play contractor and homeowner at the same time. Mc Construction is a ONE-STOP shop! They do EVERYTHING!! It took away a lot of unnecessary stress. We provided a design that we were aiming for and they accomplished it 100%! Our kitchen was TOTALLY outdated and tremendously small. 3 people in our kitchen at the same time was not feasible, it was a nightmare for someone who loves to cook. Now it's AMZING!! We counted 11 people in our kitchen at once and still had room for more :-) The cabinetry was on point! The island, the counter top, the pantry.... I can go on and on and on!! But the best part was the SPEED of the work being complete. We were done in the amount of time they promised.
