Short stack with strawberries
Rosa C.

This spot feels like a hidden gem. There's a huge sign inside that says "enter as strangers, leave as friends" and it's reflective of the friendly and attentive service. The vibe was small-town feel, warm & inviting, but with big flavors. I ordered the country benedict which was savory and delicious. The sauce was well made and juicy, pairing nicely with the runny yolk. They certainly didn't skimp on the gravy either. We also ordered the short stack pancakes with strawberries and they were some of the fluffiest pancakes I've ever had. They stayed fluffy even towards the end of our meal and we all fought for the last bite. Perfect tuck-in before a trip down to Point Lobos!

Great, personal service and good deals. Not particularly fancy, but comfortable. My dining companion and I shared the prime rib special and they were kind enough to split the plate in the kitchen. Can't beat the prime rib dinner for the price.

We were going to go somewhere else. But thought. This place used to be good. We walked in the place was packed. We were seated in the back biggest booth. Served coffee. Soda. Then we wait. Finally order. Ok. This took so freaking long. My MIL said they must have had to go catch the chicken. Meanwhile. The table was sticky. I had to ask for a wet towel 3 times. Turns out. They don't clean in the middle where the condiments sit. It was disguising. And waited and waited. Finally the food came. And the hottest thing on my plate was a zucchini in my vegetable dish. My husband ordered a hamburger steak and eggs. It was nasty. I had chicken mashed potatoes and gravy. Gross. The chicken was moist. WET. It wasn't delicious as I had hoped. It didn't say they cover potatoes with that. My MIL had a hamburger. It was dry and she complained to us. I lost my appetite. It took forever for the sever to refill coffee. And get creamer. And soda. Well. It was the worst $80. Spent at any restaurant. The service was bad. The food was awful. And idk how the place was so packed. I wish we had gone to Black Bear. It would've been worth the wait. I will NEVER go back. Or recommend it. OD's Would've also been better. Lousy experience. Totally revolting. One Star. Becuz it was open. SO WHAT.

Tuna melt

I'm so happy this place is right next to the hotel (2 min walking from the Hilton Garden Inn) because I always eat late so I couldn't make it to the lunch hours at the hotel. I loved that this Cafe has a lot of options! I wanted to get something healthier so I went for the cold tuna sandwich and salad on the side. As you can see in the picture I got the tuna melt instead + they also gave me fries. The order was wrong but the food was good. The sandwich wasn't quite healthy tho - it has a lot of butter on the bread. The staff was really nice and the order was ready in less than 10 mins!

Sandy's Cafe still has the best soups in Gilroy. All made on site by their own Chef and made to perfection.

Starting with the chilaquiles, they were amazing! I ordered the spiciest option, and WOW, they were insanely spicy! They definitely don't play around with the heat, so beware if you're sensitive to spice. That said, I loved them! The eggs were cooked perfectly, and the Mexican cheese and avocado brought everything together. Definitely a must-try! The Kitchen Sink was great as well, with amazing hash browns and generous portions. Definitely a solid choice if you're looking for a hearty breakfast. Unfortunately, the steak omelet was the one letdown. The steak was severely overcooked, which was disappointing, and the omelet was pretty oily. As for the service, the place was packed, but everything came out surprisingly fast! Overall, a great breakfast spot with delicious food, generous portions, and fast service. Just be prepared for some serious heat if you order the spiciest chilaquiles! Would definitely come back for the chilaquiles!

The garlic burgers and chicken sandwiches are also good, though intense for sensitive stomachs. Fortunately, the burgers can be customized by removing the garlic as desired. The menu is mostly classic American diner fare, with Mexican-American options and Italian-American pasta dishes, including penne and prawns Florentine. The cantaloupe-mango smoothies add variety, while the fried artichokes feel distinctly Californian. It's a fitting regional menu, reflecting Gilroy's garlic heritage, nearby Castroville's artichoke reputation, and the area's agricultural roots. The atmosphere is homey, with a neighborhood feel and plenty of regulars. Service is relaxed but attentive, and prices are slightly high for the area but reasonable overall. It's a good lunch stop for locals, Highway 101 travelers, or Garlic Festival visitors.

The garlic bread was good, although you only get a couple of pieces. Around $50 for the tray was a reasonable price for the amount of food. The ambiance was nice, the restrooms were clean, and the staff was friendly. Definitely coming back for a quick grub!

Walking in the lady greets you and allows you to select your own seat. It isn't packed at all. The waitress is very kind. My bf ordered the chili verde burrito and I ordered the chicken bacon sandwich. Our food was absolutely amazing. The chili verde had the softest meat I've ever had (yes, I stole some off his plate!). The flavors were very authentic, the colors vibrante and the taste was like homemade with love. My chicken sandwich also didn't disappoint. I decided on a salad so can't rate any fries. The chicken was delicious perfectly seasoned and not dry AT ALL. We also ordered the chips and guacamole that was the best I've had anywhere. Extremely fresh feels like it was made to order. We drove home and enjoyed our large amount of left overs (because the portions are large) for dinner and it was still amazing!!! We will be back just to visit Dany's!

I will say that while everyone enjoyed their meals well enough, I heard from more than one person in our party that, for whatever reason, they preferred Black Bear Diner's breakfast. The one thing I didn't appreciate about this place was the very distracting stand of cheap toys and tchotchkes for sale. We were seated at the table directly in front of it and I kept having to remind my kids to stay seated and that we were there to eat, NOT for junky knock off toys.

I had called a few days ago regarding reserving a table for a group of 12, and they had let me know that they'll put my name down but we'll all have to arrive on time in order to be seated as it wasn't considered a reservation, to which I said that was okay. Unfortunately, unforeseen circumstances had arose in my family and we could no longer attend, so I called the restaurant to let them know as this place can get busy, and we want to make sure others can be seated. However, when I told them that we had a reservation (as I'm not too sure what else to call it), the person who picked up the phone gave me attitude and said "we don't do reservations here". She didn't give me the opportunity to speak because she kept cutting me off. I tried to explain to her that not having a reservation is totally okay because we were looking to remove my name off the list, but she was being really insensitive to our situation and said "well, now you have to come in right now you can't cancel your reservation anymore". That was not right for her to do, considering what had happened in our family is very serious. This was not right and makes us feel like she was making a joke of our families situation. Although the food is good, because of this horrible experience, we will never be coming back. We've been here a few times already when the service wasn't that good (where one lady in particular would give us attitude), but we gave this place the benefit of the doubt because we understand if people are going through rough patches. We even had a bad experience last week where they forgot our food and we waited over half an hour while everybody else got their food around us, because we really enjoyed coming here. However, this phone call was the last straw and it made us realize that we won't be coming back.

Everything sounded delicious, but I opted for the Pop"s Pub burger. I figured that would be a good starting point to get a feel of how good the food is. The burger was good, but not $21.00 good. The fries were tasty ,and I really enjoyed the side salad that came with it. The burger itself came with lettuce , tomato and a house sauce (thousand island blend). The burger was cooked perfectly , and tasted pretty good. However, when you add a $10.00 IPA to the equation and throw in a tip- I was out $41.00. I didn't like my meal enough to spend that kind of money. For a burger to be this pricey, I needed more. This place seems like a cool place to chill ,watch a game, and enjoy a cold beer. I may just do that next time and skip the meal. The service was poor. Once my food was dropped off , I never heard from the lady again to check on me until she dropped off the check.

The 17 mile drive at Pebble Beach was amazing and highly recommend it to everyone. So part of this driving trip included having dinner in Gilroy, California which I came to find out while in California is the "Garlic" capital of the world. Who knew? So after Big Sur, we turned North and headed straight to Gilroy and the Westside Grill. I have to say that prior to getting there you could actually smell all the garlic in the air as we started making our way in to the City limits. We happen to love garlic so it was a delicious smell and totally unexpected. Upon arriving everyone was very friendly and we were seated pretty quickly. Place was jumping and their full bar was pretty packed as well. You could tell this is a well known local spot, which is exactly what we were hoping for. The he drinks were excellent and all the food that evening was great as well. As you can imagine, we had a number of dishes and appetizers that included, you guessed it, GARLIC! How could we not, the temptation was too great! . You could tell all the garlic was incredibly fresh and tasted great. From the Shrimp Scampi to the garlic rolls to the Italian dishes we ordered it was all very fresh and very good. Our server was amazing as well. So if you find yourself in the garlic capital of the world or just driving through and want to grab a quick bite, you may want to check them out and hey have a drink while you are there.
