Good consistent and cheap sandwiches that are made in a flash. Didn't care too much for the chipotle dagwood but the bacon dagwood was good for me. read more

Surprisingly good. Not overwhelmingly large. I love the texture and taste of the bread on the Chipotle Dagwood and the avocado in the sandwich. The chipotle sauce is deliciously tangy, and the sandwich is warm and well-made in general. read more

Good ingredients and speedy service. Lunch hour can be hectic. Prices reasonable though there's lots of competition nearby. Recommend ordering online instead of waiting in line. read more

My favorite food spot in Berkeley! It's family owned, very affordable, and offers great food and services. I recommend the tuna sandwich and Richards dagwood sandwich. read more

Sandwich Zone - Best sandwich ever!!! - Sandwiches Near Me - Berkeley, California

Great place for sandwiches. They make it to order with fresh ingredients, and with a free drink, you get a great deal for lunch: less than $5! read more

this could possibly change to a 4-star review. but i need time to digest, hah. the cashier was very friendly and even let me slide for not meeting the $5 credit card minimum. clean, bright environment, too. and the sammich? delicious veggie (i didnt even mind the red bell peppers... well, too much). it was definitely a healthy, quick meal and im sure if im in that neck of the woods again, i will be stopping in. read more

This place is great, I usually come here one or two times a week. All of their ingredients taste fresh and the people that work there are friendly. Its pretty small inside and if you go during lunch time you probably wont get a seat, but it's worth it taking it to go. My personal favorite is the hot pastrami on sourdough. Prices are pretty reasonable, its between $4-6 for a sandwich I think. I'm always baffled why people would eat at Subway when this much superior sandwich place is right across the street. Their loss I guess. read more

Best quick sandwich in Berkeley. Good prices, fast service, good/consistent quality food & friendly, wonderful people. I suggest the green giant sandwich. Oh fabulous! read more

first 5* i've given on yelp. here's why: - i'm no hipster or liberal, but i like mom&pop stores - cheap sandwiches!! - fresh ingredients (i monitor sandwich making very closely) - friendly people - convenient location (for me at least) i only found this place delivering a rent check to north berkeley properties who have their office right next door. glad i did b/c now i frequent there for lunch/early afternoon snacks. they have a small slip you fill out for sandwiches with what you want exactly on there (if you don't order off the menu). no frills, a nice little sandwich wrapped up in paper, then plastic wrap, i'm good to go. it's a small store (only 3 tables downstairs, i believe), their upstairs is a mixture of storage and a few more seating options. gets a bit crowded during lunch with people working around the area... the bread is always fresh (i get wheat). the [california, not haas] avocado is always perfect. and you always get a dam pleasant smile from the family or the cute hires working there. most recent experience (2/26/10): went in for a turkey sandwich w/ avocado, only had debit card. dam, they charge $0.50 for debit transactions under... $8 i believe. so i just ordered another sandwich. two, fresh, filling sandwiches for just over $8. so why would i ever go to quizno's across the street anymore..? this place is legit, why are people being so fucking stingy with the ratings?? read more

This place is theeeee BEST!! Ku and his family is so awesome, friendly, and not to mention they make amazing sandwiches... my two favoirtes: The Dagwood and the Chicken Pesto! My husband and I are I guess what you would call regulars here. We first came across the place when we were driving down Shattuck, saw their sign "Sandwich Zone" and I said, we have to go here... that was about 2 years ago... and we STILL love love love this place. read more

Holy cow!!! Best breakfast burrito EVER! They, in all seriousness, must put crack in them! I will be flying back just for this place.

Cheap. Fast. Lots of seating (upstairs). The owners and employees are pleasant. The sandwiches are all good, but not great. With the exception of too-cheap-to-pass-up cookies, I wouldn't bother with the baked goods. If you're ordering extras on your sandwich, ensure that they sandwich preparer hears you, not just the cashier. read more

If you're looking for a great and cheap sandwich place downtown, this place is it! They've got really fresh ingredients (i.e. fresh, sliced avocado, not some gross wanna-be guacamole spread), a variety of breads, fresh bagels, and salads too! (and a massive vegetarian sandwich). They also have a sandwich special where you can get a sandwich, drink and chips for like, $5.00. Definitely my new fave lunch spot. read more

I eat here at least a couple times a week for lunch. Super cool nice family runs the place. The kids even help out when they aren't in school... Yummy sandwiches....lately I've been getting Tuna Salad on a croissant. mmmmm. Decent lunch for under 5 bucks! read more

My sandwich (hot roast beef) was ok. That's about all I can say. It tasted very good. When it was handed to me, I was extremely underwhelmed with the size of the sandwich. The total cost was almost $6, which I suppose is on the cheap side these days, but I was still hungry after eating the sandwich. I might still go back to try a different sandwich, but honestly, there are much better (and bigger) sandwiches in the vicinity for approx the same price. Step it up a little Sandwich Zone! read more

For the price, the sandwiches here are cosmic. I was here on two different occasions. The first time, I got the lunch special. Nothing remarkable, other than the fact that my meal was less than $4. The second time I got the chicken pesto. Mmmm. It was a couple dollars more, but what can you say? Pesto is pricey. All in all, I would definitely come here again for a quick meal. read more

You can't beat a 5$ combo meal for lunch! I usually get a turkey sandwich on dutch crunch when I come here. This place gets pretty packed around noon time on weekdays when school's in session, so I'd try to avoid going during those times. I've never had a bad sandwich here. Sometimes the bread can be a little stale but it's still good imo. I also like their chicken salad sandwiches. The people who work here are super nice and the service is quick and orderly. read more

The food was good, inexpensive, and fresh. I liked being able to customize my sandwich. I ordered the vegetarian on a sourdough roll and asked them to add pastrami since I wanted all the additional veggies in my sandwich. The clerk staff was very friendly as well. The only thing I would change is that I would like more varieties in ingredients, or more creativity in the sandwiches. The nice thing is that they do have an option to order for catering. =D read more

Good food, good costumer service, good location, good prices! What else do you want? Sandwiches are good and so are the breakfast burritos.

I come here at least two or three mornings a week, and I honestly don't see myself ever coming to dislike this place with the current owners and workers as they are. The sandwiches are tasty, but what I really love are the daily soups (not available on Saturdays or holidays). A large will feed you just as well as any of their sandwiches and is only $3.80 with tax, and it will keep you warmed up during the winter chill. My favorites are their Cream of Potato (which occasionally has clam in it, like a mild Clam Chowder), Cream of Broccoli, and Corn Chowder soups, and they're usually available from 8:30am onwards--but forget about getting any after the lunch swarm! Also, there's just something about their Smoked Salmon Bagel--$4.99 and worth the splurge! Yes, I am super-poor, but with Sandwich Zone around, at least I'm well-fed! read more

This is my spot! I usually get my tuna sandwich but the dagwood sandwich is amazing especially on dutch bread. The place is pretty busy during lunch because it's in the town center and high school students line out the door but it's worth the wait because the staff and owners are pretty awesome at what they do. read more

I really liked this place. I had the hot pastrami and everything tasted great, the service was fast and friendly and the prices were very low. My only kick against them is for cleanliness. The walls are dirty and the ceiling fans/light fixtures are caked in dust but don't let that discourage you from trying it! read more

This place is great! Aside from the cheap, good food, they just now how to run a good business. They're super-friendly, family owned and run, and will remember your name if you tell them even once. I've worked in Berkeley for the past 15 years and I've seen various establishments come and go from the exact storefront that the Sandwich Zone now occupies. Given the crowd at lunchtime it's clear that the Sandwich Zone is here to stay. If you want some good food, from very good people, this is the place to go. And I have to agree with previous Yelpers -- there's no reason at all to go to Subway when this place is right across the street. Oh, and they do breakfast too! read more

I have eaten here a few times, the food is cheap but far from spectacular. I was really disappointed when I ordered a peanut butter banana sandwich recently, and I requested to have the bread changed to whole wheat instead of white, almost immediately after I ordered it. The girl was super rude and wouldn't let me change the bread because she "had already started making it". Seriously?? How much would it cost to replace 2 slices of bread and a thin spread of peanut butter for a customer? I would never run a business this way! Sorry, I won't be coming back here. read more

I get a coffee and pastry every morning and am never disappointed. I've also had a couple of tasty egg salad sandwiches on nice fresh bread and generously filled for $3.99. I can definitely recommend it. As for service, I have only ever had good service. The only time I was frustrated was due to a customer in line ahead of me taking her sweet time ordering, so I had to leave, sans coffee and pastry, to catch my bus. read more

The guy who's complaining because he couldn't get service after 5pm -- dude, take a chill pill. Your ridiculous rant was deleted once and you post it again? Obsess much? A lot of restaurants keep their doors open after closing to air the place out. You admit the sign said 5pm closing and you were there at 5:30pm. Just because you think an open door means open to serve customers, doesn't mean they are wrong. It means you really need to get a clue. The Sandwich Zone is a great place for good inexpensive food. The salads are fresh and good sized -- adding chicken to the apple walnut salad only costs a buck, and the caesar that already has a good amount of chicken is only $5. The sandwich deal -- $5 for sandwich chips & drink -- better than anything around. And the service is great. Mr Ku and Lois are amazingly helpful and friendly for people who stand on their feet all day long. read more

If you want a really good sandwich, this is the place for you! Also if you are looking for a great cheese and cracker platter, Sandwich Zone will make it for you! [For those who work at UCB, they invoice and DELIVER!!] But the best thing about this shop are the owners. They are so sweet and attentive that it is a pleasure just walking into their establishment. It's kind of like the Cheers of a sandwiches. If you're in the neighborhood stop by, they have great morning items at affordable prices as well. Plus they're so nice!! :D read more

I love stopping by the Sandwich Zone to pick up a sandwich. The sandwiches are always good. The price is very reasonable and the service is very good. The couple who own the place are very friendly and customer oriented. Highly recommended for a quick sandwich to go. read more

Lois and Gu are wonderful people. They know their regulars and their regulars know them. The sandwiches are simple, yet tasty and the prices are very wallet friendly. They cater, and have walked many a cart up the block to our many functions. They do a nice array of breakfast sandwiches too that hit the spot when you get those early morning stomach grumblings. The Dagwood is the go to. You might have to explain to the Berkeley High and Cal students who Dagwood is and why a sandwich is named "Dagwood," but that just means you're getting old. At lunch time, call ahead during the school year. Because their prices are so packet friendly, this place gets overrun with Berkeley High students on their lunch. read more

The value on my cost-worthy vegetarian sandwich is a drawback from the original days in organoh history. I was treated with respect. The menu is full and clustered with values. There are tables to sit in: small rectangle long place, but a refuge from glowing lights and white blaring walls. Family styles, local whiles. Just to the "left side" of Bank of America on Shattuck @ Center, aside the cluster bus stops for 51, 7, 65, 57 and 52. Yea. read more

Sandwich Zone - Delux veggee sandwich, delightful choices, family biz values: Sandwich Zone! - Sandwiches Near Me - Berkeley, California

Deliscious, friendly, and inexpensive! The Zone may be the best sandwich place in the Bay Area. They will customize your sandwich, and they don't skimp on the expensive stuff that other sanwich places are cheap on (if you get avocado, they put on a lot of avocado). You can get a great sandwich, Chips or Fruit, and a drink for 5 bucks... and Myung and her family are the friendliest people around. It's like a trip back to the 60s. The Zone is truly where everyone (at least in my office) wants to eat. read more

The best sandwich place I've ever been to. They give you big portions for a great price. So generous and the workers there are so friendly. Free wifi is a plus. read more

I had a bad craving for a tuna sandwich (I have this every month or so), so I made the trip out here even though it's a 30-minute bus ride one way. After receiving my order, I patiently rode the 30-minute bus ride back home without touching the sandwich since I enjoy food more when I have it in the comfort of my home. ...you can imagine my disappointment when, after this 1hour+ journey, I bit into the sandwich, only to realize that it was CHICKEN SALAD and not TUNA. Yes, there is a difference. They two may look identical, but they taste completely different. What makes me even more annoyed is that this is the second time this has happened. I let it go the first time, but this second strike warrants a negative Yelp review. Don't get me wrong; they make great sandwiches with great prices. The combo deals are great too. If only they had put the correct meat in my sandwich. When I circle tuna, I WANT TUNA. read more

To me the Sandwich Zone's problem is while a good restaurant, it simply is outclassed, at least for a vegetarian. Their veggie sandwich is the same price as Hummingbird Cafe or Stuffed Inn's options, while Hummingbird's has feta cheese that really accentuates the flavors, while Stuffed Inn you have more options. read more

I got violently ill eating their chicken salad, as did my friend who ate the same meal. When confronted, they completely denied any culpability and treated us as if we were some con-men off the street. We didn't want anything extra, just a refund for the sandwiches that we ourselves 'refunded' for nearly 48 hours. read more

I went there 415 says it open and has open sign but place is closed. They need to take down open sign and change hours on yelp. Waste of time read more

I come here every Monday and Wednesday before class. Sandwich Zone is hard to beat. The best part is that their sandwiches are cheap. You get over 10 options to choose from for only $4. And if you're feeling up for chips and a drink, it is only a $1 more. And these sandwiches aren't crappy either, they are better than the $7 sandwiches you find at those cafes with the chalk menu boards, ya know? Plus they fill you up perfectly. Now, its no Aroma, but for the price I've never seen it beat. Secondly, once your order is in you get your sandwich within a few minutes. This is important when you need to grab a quick bite before a 2 hour commitment. I haven't tried their bagels because they stop making them at 11, but they sound damn good. Friendly too. I am amazed most of the time when I leave and that is why I keep coming back. Try the veggie, if you're up for it. Today I had the tuna on a croissant. read more

Love their service they were super friendly made my order fast I didn't have to wait for a long time...id you need fast and good sandwich this is the spot read more

What stands out is location, location, location. There's nothing else in this neighborhood that can compete with the generous portions, price, and freshness of the ingredients. It would be nice to see at least one novel sandwich amongst these American standards, but I'll continue going here when I haven't had time to make a sandwich at home. read more

i seee everyone talking about the price , yeah i agree its pretty cheap but no wonder its soo bad , so plain , no taste to it , had a turkey melt on rye with avocado , service was not too quick my sandwish was so plain turkey swiss and avocado i guess they dont put the works on their melted sandiwishes , any ways good luck for anyone that goes and keep going there ,yuuuuuuuuk read more
