I enter the sandwich zone pretty often. Very cheap for berkeley, and really good sandwiches and breakfast burritos. I've never had a problem getting a seat whenever and working here for a bit if I've got some time. read more

Unfortunately most of the time I like this place. Their sandwiches aren't bad and the coffee is decent. But today I wanted a breakfast burrito, and since the menu that had all of the ingredients listed for it did NOT in fact say it came with sour cream, I went for it and didn't ask for any modifications. So I was pretty upset when I took the burrito home, took one bite and almost gagged, quickly realizing their menu is full of LIES, as the burrito was practically nothing but sour cream. Now I'm down four dollars and stuck with food I can't eat. Awesome. read more

Sandwich Zone Rocks!!!!! I Ordered a Turkey Cheddar Melt, and added cucumber, lettuce, spinach to it, IT WAS SOO GOOODD!!!! :) read more

I had the Dagwood with no onions on Dutch Crunch. This place is just okay. The Dagwood is probably your best bet since the avocado and bacon pair so well. The meal filled me up for hours, which is so necessary during crunch time. But I know other sandwich stores that can do the same at comparable prices. Overall, this place is not the "best" or life-changing as other reviewers are making it out to be. read more

Order the green giant. Its amazing. Nice and toasty, fresh veggies, and the perfect size. Their coffee is great too.

This place is great for someone with a budget. $5 for a big sandwich, great chips, and a drink. The sandwiches aren't too complex or "special", but they are definitely fresh and filling. If you are in downtown Berkeley, go to Sandwich Zone! so much better than the crappy and stingy Subway next door. read more

Not a bad place for a sammie. Once you walk in you mark what you want and all the trimmings on a piece of paper. Then you pay and wait for your order. They have a daily deal for five bucks (sandwich, chips and a drink). read more

Don't call me Blondie, but I love a good Dagwood. Yep, that was a terrible joke... Anyways, this place makes an excellent sandwich. I love Stuffed Inn on Euclid, but this place makes sandwiches a little differently. They are all stacked high (as any Dagwood should be) and most feature that uniquely California twist: generous chunks of avocado. At $5-6 bucks for a sandwich, it's a great deal. Minus one star because they messed up my companion's order. "No onions" means no onions. read more

If you've been looking to grab a sandwich or just searching for quiet place with wifi in downtown Berkeley, you need to get in the (Sandwich) Zone. I appreciate that the $4.99 lunch special comes with a wide variety of side options. They have two ounce bags of Kettle chips (they usually have a selection of flavors), Terra Chips, Pirate's Booty, etc. The combo also includes either Pepsi brand drinks from the fountain or Coke brand products in cans. If I am looking for a healthier option, I substitute a bottled water and piece of fruit (at no extra cost) for the drink and chips. Take that, SubwayJared! The sandwiches are made-to-order, and the meat is sliced freshly for each sandwich when you order. The last time I was here, I noticed the sourdough rolls were from Boudin, so if you like Boudin's sourdough, be sure to get your sandwich on the sourdough roll. There's free wifi here for customers, and it's easy to score a table of your own to work at. Just head upstairs, where there are tables where where one can surf the web, study or read in a peaceful, quiet and well-lit space. Unlike many other locations with free wifi in Berkeley, there's nobody tripping over you, no overcaffeinated dissertation or manifesto-writers jostling for space, and nobody rushing you here. The employees here are always super-friendly. As soon as you walk through the door, someone is there to say hello and help you with your order, and someone else is ready to prepare your sandwich. It's a friendly family-owned-business like something out of Mayberry--except Mayberry never had free Wifi and Terra chips. read more

When here back when I went high school in Berkeley recently moved back still make an extra stop at Bart to come here cause the sandwiches are sooooo damn good!!!! And cheap for no reason I usually walk out with more than a sandwich it's the absolute best. read more

This is a solid sandwich place with all the good breads, toppings, meats, etc. and a great breakfast selection (think bacon, egg and cheese bagel). Prices are right. They have a great array of kettle chips. Soups look good. Exciting! read more

The business at this location is forever changing. But I hope this place sticks around. It's great for the locals and UC workers and students, especially with the lunch special. My favorite: the dagwood sandwich. Bacon makes everything better!! read more

I come to this place several times a week; the sandwiches are fantastic (especially the Dagwood, my personal favorite), the staff is friendly, and the service is fast and no-hassle. The price is also very reasonable for the amount and quality. For a sandwich shop just down the street from Ike's, the quality speaks for itself simply by the fact that they can compete (and beat, in my opinion). I will continue to be a regular, because this place is just too good to stay away. read more

The grilling of the sourdough roll on both the inside AND out was a pleasant surprise! Delicious sandwich. Ordering and paying online was another bonus. read more

I go to this place frequently, and the workers are so courteous every time. Food is really affordable and you get full with the amount you get. I get a breakfast burrito and it's really good and filling. read more

I love their combo deal! $4.99 (no tax) for any deli sandwich, chips, and a drink. The decor isn't great at all, they have boxes laying around in different places, but the food is superb! I get roast beef on a toasted sourdough roll with pepper jack, lettuce, tomato, pickles, mustard, extra onions, and extra mayo. I also usually get a bag of Dirty Chips (extra $.50). It's an extremely well made sandwich, unfortunately it's not completely filling, which is something I look for as a college student (I am on a very limited budget). So it kinda sucks that I have to get something else along with it (go for the Avocado bagel on a jalapeno bagel!) So for a completely filling meal it'll cost me about $9, but keep in mind I eat a damn good amount of food! read more

I still like these guys, but I'm bummed they no longer have wifi. I liked sitting upstairs in their little hidey-hole second floor, working. Bring it back, please! read more

This is my favorite sandwich place in Berkeley. I always get a sandwich on the sourdough roll, which is has just the right amount of chewiness that I like in sourdough bread. They make it really easy to customize your sandwich with the little sheets at the beginning of the counter, which is what I always do so I can't comment on their named sandwiches. My standard veggie with Swiss cheese sandwich is $5.50 and it's definitely filling. They also have a nice selection of organic fruits and other treats (cookies, rice crispie treats, pastries) to satisfy your sweet tooth after lunch. Oh, and they stock Dirrty chips and I looooove the Salt & Vinegar flavor. read more

Try the Dagwood with Chipotle, or the Deluxe Veggie, both are amazing. Sandwiches are perfectly made, and contain high quality ingredients. It's nice to have such an awesome deli in Berkeley! read more

absolute legends, helped feed hundreds on Berkeley Project day, and kept volunteers excited with their sandwiches

For lunch, I am a loyal fan of Cheese n Stuff on South side but I decided to give this one a try. The sandwiches are slightly more expensive but I feel the quality is worth the price. The Green Giant is my absolute favorite; pesto mayo, sprouts, and turkey on delicious grain bread. The owner is very nice as well; she advised me to take-out or else they would have to add tax. I highly recommend this place to anyone! read more

Drove in the rain to arrive at 4:30, 30 minutes before closing time, to find the store closed and completely dark. Everything else on the street open. Inconsistency. read more

Just went there to pick up a Chipotle Dagwood for lunch because the pictures looked so good on Yelp and... it was awesome! It was fresh, the avocado was delish, and the sauce was spicy but not to ruin the taste. When I got my sandwich it was a little warm so I was so looking forward to eating it immediately before it cooled down lol. I also want to mention that the gentleman taking my order could not be any nicer and my order was ready in no time. This is my new sandwich spot go to! read more

This place makes amazing sandwiches - if you're a vegetarian, get ready because there are lots of options. This place is always packed, for good reason. Go with the Dutch Crunch bread- you'll thank me later. Always fresh ingredients well assembled, read more

Delicious, fresh deli sandwiches for cheap. Great place for an inexpensive lunch.

Enormous sandwich - avocado, turkey, tomato, on a sourdough roll, blah blah blah .... for $5.75. Fresh and tasty, generous portions of avocado, tomato, etc. Hard working family, including young children (is this legal?) trying to launch this local endeavor. Shows promise. read more

Had an order of the Deluxe Veggie (Avocado) Sandwich (~$6): Avocado, spring mix, tomato, red onions, cucumber, red bell pepper, sprouts and provolone & pepper jack on multigrain. Food was delicious, staff was expedient, and the ambiance was logistic. read more

just good, fresh sammies, made to order. they pile on the meats, cheeses and veggies, and for $4 a sandwich, you get more than your money's worth. i usually opt to create my own, using their handy order forms, and they have never gotten it wrong. i'll echo the sentiments below that if you're an avocado-lover (which i definitely am), then you'll be pleased with the big chunks on your sandwich. can't give 'em five stars for two reasons: 1) i wish they had more condiments - nothing like a little chipotle mayo on a turkey, cheese and avo sammie; and 2) you can NEVER go between the hours of 11:30 and 1:30, unless you like waiting in a long-ass line of high schoolers, listening to them gossip about the latest facebook gossip read more

This place is the ideal grabngo lunch place. Cheap, but not as convenient or all-encompassingly valuable as The Coffee Spot on campus. Although it is right next to many bus stops. read more

It's easy to think that a sandwich is easy to make. You just slap a bunch of produce and meat together, slop on some mayo and mustard, and ta-da. Sandwich done. But what makes a really good sandwich is attention to detail and fresh ingredients. You get both from Sandwich Zone. For example, for their Dagwood (which is phenomenal), they use this incredible, fresh French bread, which has just the perfect amount of crunch and the perfect hint of sweetness. The mayo they use is delicious. But what I most appreciate is that all the "toppings" are cut to the perfect size. The cheese is sliced just thin enough. The tomatoes are not too thick, like at many sandwich places. The avocado is cut up into small pieces so that it doesn't slide out as soon as you bite into the sandwich (oh how I hate places that give you those giant, frustrating avocado slices). The onion is sliced incredibly thin so you get just that hint of a bite from the onion, without the overpowering onion flavor. And the lettuce is always fresh and delicious. It really *shouldn't* be hard to make a great sandwich. But I've been to so many places that don't get it right or phone it in. Sandwich Zone really cares about each and every sandwich. read more

Went in on Thursday and placed an order for 12 sandwiches that I needed for a staff training on Friday. A lady, I think she's the owner, double checked all my sandwich slips for completeness and accuracy. I went to pick up my sandwiches a little early the next day to avoid the lunch rush and they were ready. The sandwiches were a big hit with all my staff and my Chipotle Dagwood was delish! read more

I got the pastrami half sandwich and soup deal for $5. Chowder was just decent, and the bread was a little tough, but the pastrami was good and decent portions. Three stars for a positive, homey vibe and for being a family joint--the register was run by the daughter, who looked something like 12 years old. read more

Love stopping here while waiting for the bus to go to work. Very cheap, really tasty, filling sandwiches. I think most, if not all, sandwiches are less than $6, depending on which one you get. They have a shitload of filling in them, to the point where one sandwich can, and is almost always, eaten in 2 meals. Thankfully, they use fresh produce and bread, and you can tell. Dat crunchy lettuce and those juicy tomatoes... Plus, customer service is AWESOME. The woman that works in the mornings is so sweet. How can someone be so sweet that early in the morning?! I will never know. As for recommendations, get the Chipotle Dagwood on a sweet roll. Trust. read more

Just found this spot and wow is delicious. There sandwiches, breakfast burritos, and even muffins (even tho they are just from Costco). Great spot for a quick bite any time of the day. Wish there was more seating but overall it's a prime spot. read more

Had a delicious dagwood sandwich (#1 on the specialty sandwich list) for 5.75. Totally satisfying with huge chunks of avocado, yum! It's a good deal on those days I didn't bring my lunch & don't want to get something completely fatty. However, the sandwiches here really are basic & you could totally make something like it on your own. It is basically Costco everything -- bread, meat, cheese & chips. However, for convenience, healthiness & staff friendliness, it's on my short-list of places to go for lunch. read more

Get your sandwiches here. Seriously. Do it. It's inexpensive for what you get. I've been here twice and loved it both times thus far. The first time I got a turkey sandwich with avocado on it and it was soooo good. The next time I went I got a mushroom, spinach, and egg bagel sandwich for breakfast...amazing. Also, a little girl was at the cash register and I thought she was so cute! Seems pretty family-oriented which I like and the food is good quality. My boyfriend was raving about this place's pastrami sandwich and so I tried I bite of his and it was delicious-I'm getting that next time. Ugh, now I'm craving that eggwich... read more

Just had a Reuben sandwich from here. Very, very good. For $5, great deal. I walked in and I couldn't decide what to get. All the sandwiches sounded good.
