FOOD: Banh Mi Dac Biet: Better than others in the area. For the most part, you get a good amount of meat, pate, and mayo on fresh bread. It could use a little more pickled vegetables and jalapenos, though. The main thing that frustrates me is the huge slices of pure fat that are always included in the Dac Biet I receive. I don't mind having fat in the sandwich, but when you're giving me huge chunks with the texture of rubbery tofu, that's just wrong. Banh Mi Dau Hu: As much as I love meat, I am hooked on their tofu banh mi. The tofu is freshly fried in-house (and you get a good handful of thick slices), while the bread gets a healthy dose of Maggi and mayo. Again, more pickled vegetables and sliced jalapenos would be nice. The menu says it comes with mushrooms, but they never add any. Banh Mi Xiu Mai: Decent. The xiu mai are large and tender, but a little too sweet for my liking. My family likes it a little more than I do. Their bread is baked in-house. It's soft, has a slight crust, and nice chew to it. I also learned a bit of history learning that Vietnam has some French influence in their cuisine, I guess I didn't pay attention in history class. They use liver pate, which I love and I use to to eat at least two sandwiches because they are so tasty, but now I have to be more watchful of how much I eat so I limit myself to one. This is always our go to place in the valley for Bahnmi. They are consistently good. Large sandwiches usually feed us for two meals. Most of our group like the BBQ pork. We always request extra pickled veggies. The ambiance and location is not great, but there is parking in the back and we usually just get the sandwiches to go. It helps to order ahead so you don't have to wait. The prices have gone up significantly to $9.25, but the menu still says $7.25. I have so many good things to say about this place. Their service is very fast, so don't expect to wait too long for your food. One time I came here at 7am & they were able to give me my food without having to wait for 10 minutes. Tonight, I came 30 minutes before they close.
