I don't like mate on its own but with fruit it's a smoky complex iced tea that's a delight with the caffeine I need to get my day going. What a lovely spot to have a meal or drink and even work a little. My husband visited recently to work and kill some time before he had to pick the kids up. He said it was well set up as a work space which included places to plug in his laptop. He ordered some food to eat there, but was also ordering food to take to the kids. She asked about our familiarity with mate and though my father had tried it once prior, I told her I had not but that I was here to try it. She offered us two mate samples and I loved them. The drink itself is a blend of green/black tea and tastes like it. I ordered the traditional mate (served hot!) in its traditional cup + straw as well as a few empanadas for breakfast. Hot Mate 5/5, this was a very lovely hot tea. It came with the herbs set up inside the cup above the strainer, a metal straw that connected to the bottom of the cup for you to drink the mate minus the herbs, and a gigantic thermos of hot water alongside to keep refilling my cup with hot water. If you don't love it being bitter but still want it traditional; I'd suggest not letting the water steep for long, but they also do have sweetener you can use as well as blended mate for lattes or juices. Spinach and cheese empanada 5/5, this was my favorite of the empanadas. We decided to try a few empanadas (Chicken, Beef and the Vegan Potato + Broccoli and Cauliflower). Additionally, decided to try the favorite Iced Yerba Mate and a Arollado de Dulce de Leche for dessert. The Iced Yerba Mate (straight up over ice) was refreshing and great-tasting. The empanadas came out in a few minutes on a wooden board. Each one was branded with shorthand indicated which filling was inside. The pastry crust was wonderfully crisp on the edges and baked to perfection. The inside fillings were packed with flavor, each one made layered with different spices and seasonings that were quite unique and delicious. As an added bonus, each was under $3, which is a very good value. The Arollado de Dulce de Leche was a perfect compliment to cleanse the palate for dessert. Freshly rolled, the layers were plenty, filled with a deliciously smooth, sweet and creamy dulce de leche. So good! Mate Conmigo makes you feel like part of the family.
