This is a must-go every time I go to The Grove Farmer's Market. Such a great stand tucked away but not too hard to find. Good variety of flavors of empanadas. My personal favorites are the Dulce de Leche and the Filipino Beef! Yesterday, I went back and go the Dulce de Leche as a midday snack. Perfect snack and sweet treat! Prices are pretty high, about $6.15 an empanada, which is my only gripe. However, they are filling and worth it. The people who work there are kind and efficient. This is a place I would recommend time and time again! read more

Angel was amazing with his service! For management, there seemed to be a aggressive delivery driver whom was very impatient and rude with Angel and seemed to want to make trouble. I too was waiting for my order and the driver just got in my way rudely. I believe Angel was as respectful as anyone can be in such a situation. We got the half dozen empanadas and got to try a few different flavors. Our favorite was the ham & cheese and nutella ones. They have so many sweet and savory options it's hard to choose to be honest. The 6 pack comes with some dipping sauces as well. It's great that the empanadas say what type they are on them, otherwise good luck finding the right one read more

Overall, I would give this place a 4.5 out of 5, but rounding up since there's no 1/2 star options and for their massive selection of empanada flavor options; it's not easy to have so many variety of flavors and to master them all, so I give them credit for that. Service is usually good - friendly and prompt. If you are a Cedar's-Sinai employee, they give you a slight discount. I love businesses that do small "give-back" gestures like this as it builds a sense of community. There's limited seating inside and outside. I like how they serve the empanadas in take-out cardboard boxes so it is convenient to take any leftovers to-go if you cannot finish. I personally do like BAKED empanadas over FRIED because it is healthier and less heartburn inducing. Thus far, I have tried ... 1. Chicken Jalapeno (3.5/5) They use shredded chicken in this empanada, which was a bit dry, so minus 1 star for that reason. However, the spice seasoning combo was very good. The dough on this empanada was a bit thin and doughy, but the edges were nicely crisp. 2. Carne asada ground beef (5/5) This flavor profile is one of my favorites. It is seasoned very well and reminds me of eating a taco but in empanada form. The guacamole mixed inside was fresh and added a nice creaminess to each bite. 3. Samosa beef (3/5) They use ground beef for this empanada. Unfortunately, this one lacked flavor compared to the carne asada beef one, so was not as enjoyable in my opinion. 4. Dulce de leche (5/5): Who would've thought sweet empanadas would work out to be a nice sweet treat. Think of this as a nice crispy outer shell filled with warm, caramelly, and milky filling that's not too sweet. Delicious!! I will be returning to try out more flavors. read more

The empanadas here are ok and kind of overpriced. Each empanada costs $6. I got the Carne Asada empanada. The meat filling inside was flavorful and I enjoyed eating it with Tapatio sauce. Also tried the Chicken, Mushroom, and Cheese empanada and thought it was sort of bland. The breading on the empanadas were not that great. The crust was pretty hard and dry. Overall, nice to try if you want a small snack, but not the best empanadas I've had. read more

I was staying at Sofitel Los Angeles and happened upon this little gem a short walk up the road. The indoor seating space was bright and clean and there's a small section out front if you prefer that. Prices were ridiculously reasonable considering the sheer size of these empanadas. They were packed with filling and ate like a meal. Selection went from vegan to practically every meat imaginable as well as sweeter dessert options. They have some combo deals with 2 or 3 empanadas and a drink which felt like a steal. I enjoyed all 3 of my picks which included Salsa Verde Chicken, Carne Asada, and Korean BBQ. Food: There is a variety of empanada fillings here that I have never seen. I had their Bulgogi, Samosa and Cuban Sandwhich and Green Chile filling. It was very tasty. The Spicy Chimichurri was a bit overwhelming. I recommend getting the regular. read more

I ordered the beef empanadas and they were a 10/10--super flavorful and baked to perfection. I really appreciated how generously filled they were (no skimping here), and the texture of the baked dough was chef's kiss. The staff was also super nice shoutout to the woman at the counter who gave us chimichurri sauce on the side. It paired perfectly with the beef and brought the whole thing together. Nonna's has the best empanadas! There's a place 5 minutes from me but I go to Nonna's which is another 15 minutes away. The remodel gave it a roomy, clean and bright feel. The staff are friendly and efficient - that's saying something with so many delectable options. The empanadas are stamped with the filling name so you know what to expect. I've been eyeing these golden pockets of dough and deliciousness for quite some time now. But never had an excuse to come here... until recently. I was attending a potluck, and decided to bring empanadas from Nonna's. Online ordering is done through ChowNow. If you're ordering a dozen, there isn't really a way to checkbox more than one flavor. At the bottom of the page I just wrote it under the Special Instructions (5 beef, 4 chicken, 3 veggie) and crossed my fingers they would read it. You can also add chimichurri sauce on the side. I got a confirmation email after purchasing, and then a ready for pick up email at 1PM on the day of. I requested 2 PM, but the order wasn't ready until 2:20 PM, which ended up being fine because I arrived at 2:40 PM thanks to traffic. There was parking in the back and a handful of spots on Holt Avenue. I realized I didn't order enough for our vegan friend and bought an additional Samosa Veggie. The display case had a decent amount of options left over in the afternoon. Some flavors were already sold out, but the staff member offered to bake a new one (additional 20 minutes). Unfortunately they did not have enough ingredients for the Beyond Meat one, but I appreciated the offer. The outer layer had the right amount of thickness and toastiness. I'm more used to it being more fried and crispy, but these baked ones had a nice flakiness to them. The fillings for each one were generous, both the chicken and beef were flavorful. If I return, I'm getting the Nutella one! read more

If all the empanada here are like the two I had, I'm baffled as to how this place has a high review. Of the two, the Salsa Verde Empanada was the least disappointing. We found them to be really try and lacking rich flavor. We asked for a side of salsa to help lubricant them down our throat but the salsas weren't good... First time at the Grove and we stumbled upon Nonna's Empanadas. We were impressed by the selection of fillings they have to offer. From savory to sweet, they have a lot! We decided to get four to go and it came with sauce on the side. The flavors we got were Beef Jalapeno, Chicken Alfredo, Carne Asada and Philly Cheesesteak. Wow was I impressed by the different choices we had. I would say my least favorite one was the beef jalapeno and the chicken Alfredo or Philly cheesesteak were my favorite! Not tasty enough for $6 each! The Beyond meat was disgusting (had a peculiar flavor, I can't quite describe it.) I purchased 6, paid $36 with tax and the cashier was a little rude, crumpling my receipt as soon as it printed, instead of handing it to me. I purchased two Nutella empanadas (kids liked that one,) a four cheese with way too much non-melted cheese and the macaroni and cheese, which was a 5/10. Good empanadas near Beverly Center. They have lots of food flavors to choose from. So far I've tried the carne asada and Filipino chicken. Both were great. I came later in the day, around 8, so they were out of a lot of flavors. Come early for the best selection. Overall nice spot for a snack, plus they have a spacious seating area. read more

Wow just wow! Came here for a "snack" left with a 3 empanada combo with their dragon fruit drink. Beef jalapeño Philly cheesesteak And pepperoni were my choices for my first experience. Pretty quick service since the empanadas seemed freshly baked and kept in a heated area for quick serving. Couple seats to eat at the small but efficient hut in the farmers market area of the mall / the grove. They gave us the wrong Empanadas and I called to speak to the Manager. I'm still waiting for the manager to call me back. We wanted carne asada and they gave us beef! They need to know what they are giving the customers! The manager called me and he was so nice. He is going to refund the 2 empanadas that were wrong. If you haven't tried these you have to. He was really patient, answered all my questions, explained the different options, and gave me some great recommendations. I ended up getting the Beef, Chili Carne, Chicken, Spicy Potato, Santa Fe Chicken, and Spinach & Cheese empanadas. They were all really good, and I liked that they let me choose from three different sauces/salsas to go with them. Everything came out quickly and was packaged really well. They even included a list showing which empanada was which, which I really appreciated since they all looked pretty similar once they were in the box. I actually came for the empanadas, but they also had fresh pasta and decided to give it a try. I'm really glad I did because it was excellent. The pasta was cooked perfectly al dente, the sauce was delicious, and honestly I'd come back just for the pasta. There are still a bunch of things on the menu I want to try, especially the sweet empanadas, so I'm already looking forward to my next visit. I stopped by for takeout after my doctor's appointment at Cedars. I've passed by this place multiple times during my visits and finally decided to give it a try. Unfortunately, I went during rush hour, so all the parking in front was taken, and I had to circle the block several times before finding a spot. I ordered a dozen empanadas to take home to San Diego. The woman behind the counter was unfriendly and unwelcoming, which was frustrating, but I went ahead with my order. There were so many options to choose from that it took me a few minutes to decide. Luckily, no one was behind me at that time. When I asked for her recommendations, she seemed annoyed and gave a generic response, saying all of them were good. She looked like she was trying not to roll her eyes. Since I was famished and had a long drive home, I decided to order an additional two empanadas to dine in. She seemed annoyed when I asked for sauce and handed the box to a much friendlier guy behind the counter. While eating, I observed her being rude to a paying customer who asked for the bathroom code. He couldn't hear her initially and asked her to repeat it, and she snapped at him. However, she wasn't rude to some regulars and a man who spoke her language. When new customers arrived, she returned to her annoyed demeanor. Based on other comments, it seems others have complained about a rude woman, and I wonder if it's the same person. Regarding the food, I was disappointed they were out of several empanadas I wanted to try. The customer in front of me was told they'd make more in five minutes, but when it was my turn, I was told they weren't making any more. I jokingly asked, "Five minutes?" and she firmly said no. I asked if they planned to make more, and she insisted they wouldn't. Out of all the items I ordered, I found the Philly cheese steak, carne asada, and chicken mushroom empanadas to be the best. Everything else seemed a bit dry, even with the sauce. Despite the unfriendly service, the few empanadas I enjoyed were decent, but overall, the experience left much to be desired. read more

Nonna's Empanadas has been one of my favorite stops whenever I visit the farmers market at The Grove. Their empanadas are flavorful, satisfying, and make for the perfect grab-and-go snack while wandering through the market. There's almost always a line, but the employees do a great job of keeping it moving efficiently. They're friendly, quick, and clearly know how to handle the rush, which is always appreciated when you're eager to get your hands on some hot, fresh empanadas. That said, I've noticed a bit of a dip in quality during my last couple of visits. The empanadas have been somewhat soggy, and while they seem to be thoroughly cooked, the dough has tasted and felt a little underdone. They're still good, but I miss the perfectly crisp bite they used to have. Another change I noticed is with the sauce--what used to be included now costs extra. The sauce adds such a nice touch to the overall flavor, so it feels like a bit of a letdown that it's no longer part of the standard order. Even with these small disappointments, Nonna's is still a solid spot, and I'll continue to stop by whenever I'm at the market. The flavors are still delicious, and there's something about the experience of enjoying an empanada fresh from the stand that keeps me coming back. Nonna's Empanadas is unlike any other spot in LA. They just released a whole new menu of empanadas from around the world. The Carnitas, and Fajita style empanadas are my favorite. The Chicken Jalapeño and the Corn empanadas are also ridiculously delicious. The Tomato-Basil and the new Whole Wheat veggie are pretty unbelievable too. I usually do their 3 empanada + Drink combo, works out pretty well. They have a relaxing little patio in front and it it BYOB...there is a liquor store next door so it works out great. A bottle of wine, a couple empanadas, what more can you ask for. I live 2 blocks away, and want to move closer to the beach...literally, the only thing keeping me in the neighborhood is Nonna's Empanadas. Crazy good! Also, the owner Mario and the staff are some of the friendliest people I have met in LA. They are passionate about feeding their customers quality food and are always in a great mood. I've been out of town for a couple months, and just came back to find that Nonna's has some new flavors of empanadas. Here goes: Carnitas empanada...Brilliant! I mean really, holy shite this is good. The food is better than good. The beef empanada was an exquisite blend of flavors and textures, and you actually got lots of the delicious filling. The pastry was delicious and thin, so lower on carbs. Also had the croissants filled with caramel flavor - amazingly delicious and addictive - truly, you have never tasted pastry as good as this. THEY LIED TO ME, so this place gets a two star rating. I'd I'd rather go to the location in downtown Los Angeles. Don't ever come to this location. I can see why they got a low rating overall.
