We got the half dozen empanadas and got to try a few different flavors. Our favorite was the ham & cheese and nutella ones. They have so many sweet and savory options it's hard to choose to be honest. The 6 pack comes with some dipping sauces as well. It's great that the empanadas say what type they are on them, otherwise good luck finding the right one

The place is charming! The chimichurri sauce is heaven in earth! Highly recommended! Service is alright not the nicest person but place is very small so I figured the time for attention is limited.

Ordered 6 different kinds of empanadas and it came out to $38 3 that were a must is their korean beef, spinach feta and cheeseburger This one is located inside the original farmers market near the grove and their parking structure is massive 7 floors and a little pricey unless you find validation we were unable to and it cost $21 for 2+ hours of parking time Almost forgot to take a pic

Overall, I would give this place a 4.5 out of 5, but rounding up since there's no 1/2 star options and for their massive selection of empanada flavor options; it's not easy to have so many variety of flavors and to master them all, so I give them credit for that. Service is usually good - friendly and prompt. If you are a Cedar's-Sinai employee, they give you a slight discount. I love businesses that do small "give-back" gestures like this as it builds a sense of community. There's limited seating inside and outside. I like how they serve the empanadas in take-out cardboard boxes so it is convenient to take any leftovers to-go if you cannot finish. I personally do like BAKED empanadas over FRIED because it is healthier and less heartburn inducing. Thus far, I have tried ... 1. Chicken Jalapeno (3.5/5) They use shredded chicken in this empanada, which was a bit dry, so minus 1 star for that reason. However, the spice seasoning combo was very good. The dough on this empanada was a bit thin and doughy, but the edges were nicely crisp. 2. Carne asada ground beef (5/5) This flavor profile is one of my favorites. It is seasoned very well and reminds me of eating a taco but in empanada form. The guacamole mixed inside was fresh and added a nice creaminess to each bite. 3. Samosa beef (3/5) They use ground beef for this empanada. Unfortunately, this one lacked flavor compared to the carne asada beef one, so was not as enjoyable in my opinion. 4. Dulce de leche (5/5): Who would've thought sweet empanadas would work out to be a nice sweet treat. Think of this as a nice crispy outer shell filled with warm, caramelly, and milky filling that's not too sweet. Delicious!! I will be returning to try out more flavors.

The empanadas here are ok and kind of overpriced. Each empanada costs $6. I got the Carne Asada empanada. The meat filling inside was flavorful and I enjoyed eating it with Tapatio sauce. Also tried the Chicken, Mushroom, and Cheese empanada and thought it was sort of bland. The breading on the empanadas were not that great. The crust was pretty hard and dry. Overall, nice to try if you want a small snack, but not the best empanadas I've had.

I was staying at Sofitel Los Angeles and happened upon this little gem a short walk up the road. The indoor seating space was bright and clean and there's a small section out front if you prefer that. Prices were ridiculously reasonable considering the sheer size of these empanadas. They were packed with filling and ate like a meal. Selection went from vegan to practically every meat imaginable as well as sweeter dessert options. They have some combo deals with 2 or 3 empanadas and a drink which felt like a steal. I enjoyed all 3 of my picks which included Salsa Verde Chicken, Carne Asada, and Korean BBQ. The Korean BBQ was out of this world good.

I was looking for a quick snack and came across Nonna's Empanadas. They offer a wide selection of sweet and savory empanadas. I took advantage of their combo for $12 and tried their Cuban and Cheeseburger empanadas. Their prices are on the high side, but these baked empanadas were very tasty and nicely filled. Staff was friendly and helpful. It is a very casual place. Overall, these empanadas were a great treat and snack.

I ordered the beef empanadas and they were a 10/10--super flavorful and baked to perfection. I really appreciated how generously filled they were (no skimping here), and the texture of the baked dough was chef's kiss. The staff was also super nice shoutout to the woman at the counter who gave us chimichurri sauce on the side. It paired perfectly with the beef and brought the whole thing together. Yes, they're on the pricier side, but honestly worth it for the quality and how packed they are with filling. I also loved how their display case highlights the most popular flavors it made choosing a little easier, but also made me want to come back and try more!

Dessert one. Nutella. This place rocks!

Everything here is amazing! It's clean, the staff here is very helpful and friendly and offers great suggestions! Loved absolutely every single empanada we tried, the dessert ones are just as good as the hearty savory ones! Especially liked the spicy sauce that we could add to the beef and piñata. Absolutely recommend this place. It's amazing!

A spacious and comfy place to grab your quick lunch or hang out. They have so many different flavors for both sweet and savory empanadas. They hot stamped the flavors on each empanadas. So cute! I picked: 1. Mushroom 2. Philly cheese steak 3. Chicken alfredo 4. Shrimp 5. Guava 6. Nutella 7. Cheesy scramble 8. Ham & cheese

    Patrick C.

We ordered the beef empenada and philly cheese empenada. Our favorite was the philly cheese as the cheese helped bring out the flavor of the meat. Although the beef empanada was good as well, its flavor was more subtle. We would give the other flavors a shot too! The carne asada was top on our list but was sold out.

I've been eyeing these golden pockets of dough and deliciousness for quite some time now. But never had an excuse to come here... until recently. I was attending a potluck, and decided to bring empanadas from Nonna's. Online ordering is done through ChowNow. If you're ordering a dozen, there isn't really a way to checkbox more than one flavor. At the bottom of the page I just wrote it under the Special Instructions (5 beef, 4 chicken, 3 veggie) and crossed my fingers they would read it. You can also add chimichurri sauce on the side. I got a confirmation email after purchasing, and then a ready for pick up email at 1PM on the day of. I requested 2 PM, but the order wasn't ready until 2:20 PM, which ended up being fine because I arrived at 2:40 PM thanks to traffic. There was parking in the back and a handful of spots on Holt Avenue. I realized I didn't order enough for our vegan friend and bought an additional Samosa Veggie. The display case had a decent amount of options left over in the afternoon. Some flavors were already sold out, but the staff member offered to bake a new one (additional 20 minutes). Unfortunately they did not have enough ingredients for the Beyond Meat one, but I appreciated the offer. The outer layer had the right amount of thickness and toastiness. I'm more used to it being more fried and crispy, but these baked ones had a nice flakiness to them. The fillings for each one were generous, both the chicken and beef were flavorful. If I return, I'm getting the Nutella one!

    Andrea G.

If all the empanada here are like the two I had, I'm baffled as to how this place has a high review. Of the two, the Salsa Verde Empanada was the least disappointing. We found them to be really try and lacking rich flavor. We asked for a side of salsa to help lubricant them down our throat but the salsas weren't good... The variation of flavors available is really cool!

It was absolutely delicious and, when I go back, I will select this empanada!! I also recommend the corn empanadas (humita), especially if you're looking for a vegetarian option. I enjoyed those delicious empanadas in the car and was left smiling. I'm a fan for sure. Thanks, Josephine's! ( ^_^)b

The chicken and apple cinnamon could use improvement according to my taste. I support small businesses so I will definitely come back for more. I hope to see more goodies they could offer in the future. The service was good and the ambiance was clean.

AMBIANCE Parking: Street parking can be a little tricky around Silver Lake, so be prepared to walk a short distance. Seating: This is primarily a grab-and-go bakery with a small market attached. Most people come in, get there orders and head out. Vibes: Welcome to Silver Lake! It's an eclectic spot that really reflects the diversity of El Lay. As for this bakery, it's nothing flashy just a nostalgic classic for all your Filipino needs - baked goods, pastries, breads, and other familiar Filipino snacks. FOOD Turon (Recommend) Their signature delight. Freshly fried to a nice crisp. A caramelized wrapper that created lumpia crumbs with every bite. The banana and jackfruit was fresh and sweet. Hopia - Ube Coconut (Recommend) Another classic. Regardless of what flavor, you're in for a delight. A flaky pastry with the right amount of earthy sweet ube filling and a nice hint of coconut. Match this with some tea and coffee and you're in for a delightful morning to start your day. CUSTOMER SERVICE Friendly and welcoming. I met Andrea and she's a sweet hardworker. I appreciate her and her family for bringing Filipino goods in this part of Los Angeles. TL;DR OVERALL 4.5 Stars. Great selections, fair prices, and a pleasant experience. I dig how United Bread & Pastry is representing the Filipino community. I'm sure Silver Lake has evolved and changed but I'm glad this bakery has remained something consistent, sharing Filipino baking traditions to familiar faces and new visitors. Best wishes to Andrea and the rest of the De Guzman family with their business. #RepresentAZN #FilipinoFoodMovement TIPS * Don't leave without trying the turon or a fresh bag of pandesal!

Here you will find Tita Andrea and family who have been baking up sweet Filipino treats. As the name suggests, there are many bread and pastries available for sale. However, there are much more than that. The display case is lined with delicate meringues, buko (coconut) pies, meat pies (empanadas), egg pies, and a bunch of other pastries and sweet breads. This long-standing panaderia also has Filipino staples for sale like ube (halaya), shrimp paste (bagoong), smoked fish (tinapa), duck embryo (balut), and so much more. Of course, this is my go-to spot for turon (fried banana rolls w/ jackfruit). The family always serves their customers with a smile. It's a a familiar feeling and customary of Filipino culture to welcome in their home, in this case, the store. Come check out this place when you're in the area and support a local family-owned business.
