We found this breakfast spot tucked in a strip shopping center near East Beach. The reviews on Yelp were high so we gave them a try! (Hey that rhymes) There is plenty of parking, due to the shared parking lot. When we entered the restaurant you are greeted by the host whom I believe is also the owner. My wife noticed his picture inside the menu. The restaurant style is that of a dive, with tables down the center arranged for maximum capacity as well as booths along side the walls. They were very busy and there was a 10 minute wait for a party of two. We were given menus while we waited which I thought was a great gesture. When we were seated it took a minute for Karen our waitress to get to us. The table was clean but still wet and had to be wiped with paper towels. Coffee and water for the two of us please. Our drinks were brought right away and as a coffee connoisseur I dressed my cup, stirred and straight to my lips. My wife noticed the hot pink lipstick on my cup. I must admit I was a little horrified with Covid still being a issue. But I didn't "trip", I just asked Karen to replace both of our coffee cups. We ordered our breakfast, the Mrs had the eggs scrambler (kind of like a salsa egg dish without the salsa) with grilled toast. I had the buttermilk pancakes, eggs and scrapple. My wife said her plate needed something and she ended up asking for sour cream. She enjoyed the grilled toast. My scrapple was mush (not a whole grilled identifiable slice) when it arrived and the pancakes were not light and fluffy, sorta rushed of the grill. Now our breakfast was satisfying but not spectacular, it gave us the feeling that we could have eaten at home and gotten the same results...minus the dirty coffee cup. Great menu options and food was fantastic. Ordered a corn beef hash omelette with hash browns and pancakes. I love when pancakes can be a side. The pancakes weren't the best but better than ordering another side. The service was quick but they seem to also try and rush you as well. The food takes a bit to get to you so it was kind of upsetting that they seemed annoyed that we weren't finished as quickly as they seemed to ha e wanted. Simple. Simple is really good. Living pretty much across the street from here, it's comforting to know that I have a solid breakfast and lunch place at my disposal. Ordering on the phone was a breeze. The Lady who took my order was as polite as you could get, nd my order was ready for my pickup within fifteen minutes. When I got there go get my food, I was out the door in less than two minutes. I ordered two meals. One for breakfast and one for lunch. I ended up eating both together. Lol. Both meals were very simple looking but packed a ton of flavor. The crabcake benedict was very good. Lots of flavor and perfectly cooked. My club sandwich had a lot more flavor than it looked. It's been a while since I've been here and I will certainly be back soon. I found myself here after attempting to go to breakfast 3hrs prior, somewhere else. All I wanted was a crab cake bene, poached to my request. However, by the time I landed here, I gave up on that request. After looking through the menu, I found "crab cake omelet". Oh Em Gee! Wow! I was very amazed and quickly disappointed that I could have been eating this all along. Not to mention they are in my neighborhood. This omelet was perfectly plated, not overly seasoned and drizzled with hollandaise. Also featured on the menu was "scrapple"! Who doesn't love a place with this option, so I certainly had to have it. My did not order off the kids menu, for fear of being hungry afterwards. So I let them order from the adult menu. We were in VA for 3 nights and hit yelp for some recommendations where to eat. This was morning 1! I think being a gay northerner, the queer-o-meter is important - this place was great! really really great and a perfect 10! The place is clean, good diner coffee and friendly staff. The food is very good and they are willing to make up separate checks, if needed! (in NE you get the hairy eye ball for that!) We pretty much got a smattering of everything! between the two of us we got friend eggs, veggie omelet, home fries, toast, bagel w/cc, coffee and a pancake. Everything was fresh and even though the place has a "diner"-ish feel, the food wasn't greasy and cooked just as I ordered. The tables are nicely spaced apart and, as mentioned, it's a clean open environment. It's located in sort of small "strip mall" so I have to admit I was hesitant all around but so glad we went in. I know it is a local favorite which was recommended but after 2 visits it is just ok. Our last visit had a special "cordon blue omelet" which sounded tasty (broiled chicken breast with cheese and ham covered in hollandaise). When served it was a battered and fried chicken breast/strip, diced canned ham and not sure about the hollandaise sauce which tastes like nacho cheese sauce. Service was great but soured on a small note pasted to the wall that a 3.5% surcharge added if you use a debit/charge card. When you add Norfolks ridiculous food tax plus another the restaurant's 3.5% surcharge, taxes and fees are almost 20% added cost to your dining experience. There is no such justified reason as a "cost of doing business". The added surprise surcharge directly impacts the tip which I did not factor in this complaint. My tip for service Is not the cost of dinning but an appreciation for good service. read more

The breakfast here gave me my everlasting life honey! Who would've known that the best breakfast I've had in Norfolk would be in a little covert spot in an Ocean View shopping center? The chicken and waffles with the raspeberry chiptole glaze was everything. The waffles were crispy on the outside without being overdone, which is hard to pull off. The chicken was tender and juicy and the seasoning on it was perfect. It was so good my friend had to order some for himself after he got a taste of mine; furthermore, it should also be noted that the home fries were also bomb. Do yourself a favor and get an order of the home fries here because they will change your life. The service here was also friendly and helpful. Sundays are the best days for brunch so it was pretty crowded but we only waited about 7 minutes. GET THE HOME FRIES you won't be disappointed. I enjoyed my meal. I had Canadian bacon with scrambled eggs and pancakes. I wasn't a huge fan of the pancakes. They were very sweet but a little dry. Our food was kind of cold because it seemed like everything was done cooking and they were just waiting on one more thing before bringing all the food out. I ended up at Sandfiddler Café (SC) about a month ago when my first choice was closed. My youngest son and I were starving, and SC was close by. When we arrived, we were immediately greeted by friendly staff, and the service was outstanding throughout. The place was busy, but there was an open table and no wait; the décor is kitschy beach diner but it works. 50/50- This was a special that day--half beef/half bacon burger with more bacon, cheddar and an onion ring along with fries, drink and a huge cookie for $10.99. My youngest ordered this and loved it. I did take a small bite and the burger had an odd texture (not bad--just odd) with a taste of bacon. 4* Chicken and Waffles w/ Raspberry Chipotle Sauce- This was probably the best C&W I've ever had mostly because of the sauce. They use chicken tenders instead of bone-in chicken since I know some of you have an issue with that. Personally, I prefer not to deal with bones on my waffles. The batter on the chicken was crispy and had a nice flavor, the waffles were light and fluffy, and that sauce! Man oh man! Raspberry Chipotle is a wonderful marriage of flavors and it was perfect with C&W instead of Maple Syrup. 5* I would love to go back to SC, but it's a bit of a drive for me. This little place opened last year and it's such an adorable spot. Serving Breakfast and Lunch. The place is decorated just like a beach place with art and paintings from locals. The owner works hard at keeping the flow going. It's quite busy here. So if you plan on coming here better check to ensure they aren't busy. Otherwise you'll be standing for a few. The crab was very fishy, the hash browns were burned to a crisp or raw. Yes this place is at the end of East Ocean View Yes this place is in a tiny strip mall Yes this place is busy Yes, you will probably have to wait for a table But oh YES, it is worth the wait When we arrived I think we were #3 on the list, that's not too bad. There were a couple of benches and a few chairs to accommodate the waiting. There are also about 6 chairs outside for waiting. After a few minutes of waiting the flood of people started coming in, so I would advise you to get there a bit earlier to avoid prime time crowds. The decor is all beachy of course, and everything has a price tag on it. I loved the fused beach glass framed mirrors. Adorable t-shirts line the wall in all colors. Had to get one of those. Alice was our waitress and she was just so nice and attentive. She was a Norfolk native, so it was great picking her brain on some of the old places which no longer exist. The menu had a full array of food at great prices. There was also a daily special board. Alice suggested the 50/50 burger, made of 50% beef and 50% BACON. Really? No way..WAY! We intended on having breakfast but who can possibly pass up something like this gift from the bacon gods, the 50/50 burger. Not only is this thing 50% bacon, it had cheese, more crispy bacon, an onion ring, lettuce and tomato. This 50/50 burger is only offered the second week of the month and once they are gone, they are not offered again until the next month. It was on the daily special board and we got the last one. That item was removed from the daily special board once we ordered it. It was like winning the burger lotto. The burger special also came with fries, drink and a big chocolate chip cookie for dessert. We decided we would just order the burger and split it. If we were hungry after the burger we would order something else. The burger of joy came and it was everything we were hoping it would be. Moist, delicious, bacon heaven sandwich of meat. They also serve you this little bowl of garlic mayo. That stuff was so good we dipped the fries into it. Alice said they make the garlic mayo too. The burger and fries were so filling that we had no need to order anything else. We had no tummy room for the cookie so we saved it for a later snack. Would I come here again...yes I would. I would like to rate my visit today higher but the service was terrible. I'm in the opinion that if your waiting tables, you should like people. Our waitress, young girl just radiated hate. You could just feel that she didn't want to be here nor did she want to make any efforts to want to communicate with her customers. The Sandfiddler is absolutely delightful! We were warmly greeted by the host who immediately took and served our drink order. Our server, Pearle, was such a gem! With so many options, I was so indecisive, but she walked us through the entire menu. We ended up ordering a pancake and a french toast combo--which were amazing. I ordered strawberry toppings for my french toast and was pleasantly surprised that they used fresh strawberries instead of a syrupy mix. Restaurant is clean, but feels a bit dingy because of all the marks on the walls from previous local art. The local art for sale is awesome but don't let it ruin your walls, use some 3m hooks! I wish I could say that the food was scrumptious and the coffee delicious but it was bland coffee and Meh food. Not bad but just OK. Pancakes were the kind that just turn to mush as soon as you add syrup. Maybe good for some but I'd like to take a bite without having the majority of pieces escaping from my fork. I really enjoyed that the wheat toast wasn't the usual cheap stuff that crumbles to dust immediately. Except that was ruined by the excessive amount of butter slathered on. Had to scrap off more than half the excess. Service was dutiful. Our server never ventured past the basics of serving to connect with us on any personal level.
