These guys behind the desk are nice enough, but c'mon... 50 cents a page for b/w alone is nutso, but then on top of that you want to charge me to use a computer to get the documents?!? This place is not what I would call an honest business. Allow me to relate the following recent experience: In line in front of me was a foreign tourist trying to send a postcard to Europe. The actual price for this at the post office is $1.15 (I happen to have a lot of postal rates memorized as I do a lot of shipping for my business). The clerk (despite actually having USPS stamps visibly for sale, which is all you would need), told the man that he had to buy a manila envelope to send it in. This would normally mean sending it letter rate ($2.29 at the Post Office). At most, you could send it the large envelope rate, for $6.99. However, the price she gave him as the lowest possible price is $25.50. The most expensive possible way to ship it would have been package rate, which is $14.50, so they are adding around $11-18 to USPS rates. So she was going to charge him $25.50 plus the price of a manila envelope in order to send a $1.15 postcard. Being behind him in line, I felt obligated to let him know this seemed like a mistake. At which point the clerk got visibly upset with me and argumentative, so I told the guy where the nearest post office was and let him know it would be less than $2 there. After this (and by now I had waited in line a long time), the clerk refused to accept my FedEx packages, so I simply walked half a block to Walgreens which offers FedEx and UPS as well (and where the clerks are fast and friendly). I understand that businesses need to make money and add surcharges for the convenience they offer, but charging a foreign visitor, a guest in our country, an extra $20 just to mail a postcard back home is unconscionable. Being rude and retaliatory to another customer for being kind is unforgivable. Oh, adding to the shady vibe: They also charge $1 to drop off UPS packages, which UPS doesn't allow their authorized drop-off points to do. So either they are unauthorized or charging a prohibited fee. They also falsely list themselves as BBB-accredited on their website. read more

I really don't like writing bad reviews, but guys, WTF: $$$$: your prices are in insane, Earlier in the day, I printed virtually the same simple b&w pdf at FedEx, which I sent them via email. If I had done with you, would have cost me **490%** their price. I mean, really? Instead I had to bring in a drive, print it out myself, and it still cost me nearly 300% as much as emailing to a chain. Plus, there was nothing redeeming. Lower these prices dude, some shady ish. I use this service quite often and have always had good experiences with people going above and beyond. I walked in today to send off a package and Ms Shanice was very rude! She presented herself to be quite cheeky as if she did not need our business to secure a paycheck. I'm very big on customer service and i can tell you - this was not it. I was able to speak to the owner Stanley and asked him to address my concerns. He said he would but I doubt that that's gonna happen. read more

I don't know if I should give the same box one star or yelp for making me retype my complaint. I've came to this location several times and every time I've come around 730 they are close. The sign on the door and the one that is giving on yelp says you are open from so-and-so time until 8 PM. I spoke to the woman/person who works here at 6:00 and ask her what time are you closing. She/person told me 8 o'clock I come in at 7:40 the computers are shut down and I'm not even able to buy an envelope or bubble wrap. I'm giving the sandbox one star because I was lied too. If you're going to be open until 8 o'clock be open until 8 o'clock. It is holiday time. The staff there is beyond pleasant, friendly and professional. My package was ship out and delivered to the location on time. Good place to use for shipping with no long lines and attitude. I've been using sandbox since their opening a few years ago as a member of the Clinton Hill community. For the most part their staff have been very helpful with a few exceptions. Most recently there was a young lady who had the worse attitude with me and responded to me "I hope you have a better day" when I left without completing my business there. Today, 9/5, I went back in hoping I could complete everything and not be spoken to so harshly. The moment I opened the door, I was greeted by Terrence who was finishing up with a customer and was very helpful in assisting me in completing my transaction as well as answering the questions I had about delivery times etc. I contemplated speaking with Mr. Stanley Green (owner) regarding the staff member (i wont mention your name) that I encountered this past week but decided not to. I just hope as a learning experience or in a staff meeting all staff are reminded that THEY work for sandbox and if a customer has a question or a lack of understanding of a shipping service that they provide, it's the staff members job to explain to the best of their ability, not get frustrated or have an attitude. It's my own fault for even giving this place another chance. I walked over around 4 pm on Wednesday to send a Fedex using my account. I needed to send a bracelet to my jeweler for repair. There were 2 people working (a man and a woman) with 2 customers in line. I figured I would be in and out in a minute after I got a Fedex envelope and label to use my account number. No such luck. I couldn't find Fedex supplies so had to go to the cashier to ask for an envelope. She stated that they had no Fedex envelopes and the man working with another customer also said the same. She went under the counter as if to look for Fedex supplies but said nothing. She then started picking up trash from the floor (backing from labels and other items) as if I wasn't there. It was odd. I let her know that I have an account and she said they could not use my account. I wasn't sure what that meant at the time. She then suggested I use an envelope supplied by them (displayed on the wall). I walked over and picked a small envelope to fit the bracelet, stuffed it inside (with the box) and looked for a Fedex label. I then asked for a Fedex label since I didn't see them displayed on the island with other supplies. She suggested I use the labels displayed (for international shipping). I went back to the counter after filling out the label and alerted her that the label did not appear correct. I showed her that it was international. She walked over to see that all labels displayed were, in fact, international and proceeded to tell me that they were international labels. She and the male cashier started to discuss the fact that there were no domestic Fedex labels. This is literally the entire point of this shipping business, to accept and ship packages but they had no Fedex supplies to actually achieve the goal of the business. After all of this back and forth, the woman suggested that I ship with "them" explaining that they are a third party service and Fedex picks up at their location. I was literally standing in the Sandbox asking for a Fedex envelope and Fedex labels to ship a Fedex using my account but she felt like she needed to explain that Fedex picks up at that location. It was so weird. She later stated that I could use their Fedex service but would not be able to use my account. They enter all of the information to ship the Fedex, but apparently, although we can put men on the moon, there is no way to use my Fedex account to ship a package via Fedex using Sandbox's Fedex option. None of it made any sense. I simply said thank you and walked to the Post Office after giving them back their envelope. read more

Hi, I normally use this store for shipping returns and shipping out packages and I always drop a dollar off or two you know as a courtesy tip. However, today I arrived at the Sandbox store while a youth man attending me was having some food. I presented him with Boxes. The Boxes are clearly labeled Priority Mail - United States Postal Service. These Boxes if he would have known are 'Priority Mail with Flat Rate shipping cost.' -He proceeds first to list the incorrect name to the to ship address. -After measuring the box, he proceeded to input incorrect measurement into the system. At this point I told him that it was OK if he didn't know. The take away point is that the store advertises with the USPS sign on the front door but no knowledge of how the systems works or he is just plain incompetents. read more

Ok this place is convenient and the staff is friendly, but every time I've been in to ship something it ends up costing 2x what it should. Charge me for the box and the shipping, that's it. Not $1.50 to print a piece of paper, $1 to tape a box, 50¢ per piece of bubble wrap I don't need. Then they tape up the box before you know you're getting charged for all of those "add-ons." If you're looking for convenience you're good, just keep in mind you will be upcharged left and right. read more

The staff is really friendly and helpful, and as others have pointed out they don't nickel and dime you for computer usage. You basically only pay for each page you print (and keep), which I really appreciate. My only issue is sometimes during peak hours they only have one person working, so there can be a long wait just to ship off a small package or letter since you may have 3-4 people ahead of you, and of course always some cranky person arguing about the price of shipping these days... so that can get annoying--would be nice if they had an "express" line for people who know what they want or just need to purchase a stamp or something. In any case, I recommend this place and I'm glad they're in my neighborhood. read more

After a terrible experience with printing and copying an urgent large project at the Pratt Store copy center last night, I went this morning to Sandbox to sort out the mess. I had to print, xerox, organize, and mail via Fed Ex and I had a fantastic experience. The young woman at the counter was incredibly helpful and considerate handling several customers at once yet promptly assisting me with my varied questions. She gave me a discount because I had so many pages to print, her kindness and helpfulness really calmed me down after the horrible experience the night before at Pratt which made me miss a deadline with my publisher. She told me that if I need to print in the future that I can even email them in advance rather than coming in with my flash drive, which is extremely helpful to people as well. I will definitely go back and recommend them HIGHLY. read more

I just got charged a ridiculously high price to send a 1.5 lb. package via FedEx Ground. I paid $26, assuming that was just the cost. Upon going into the FedEx site when walking out the door, I found out that it should have only been $11! When I went back to the store a few minutes later to find out why I was charged such a high rate, I was told by the woman behind the counter that it depends on the weight and where it's going, in addition to the "convenience" of sending it from their location vs. a FedEx location such as Kinkos. The lady then proceeded to say that not all shipments are given such a high rate but it all just simply depends. When I asked what is charged a regular rate, she couldn't give me an answer. If they're going to be charging for "convenience" costs, they should have a sign to make customers aware of such. Needless to say I will never be going back to this place again. I reported the incident to FedEx and am due to get a refund for the difference charged. read more

Sandbox is a complete rip off! I shipped a valuable package from NY to California through Sandbox via Fed Ex and they charged me a $100 dollars over the Fed Ex estimated cost. When I asked them why it cost so much I was told it was the declared value of the package that drove the price up? I can understand that a third party shipper need to make a profit but this was highway robbery! I'll never step foot in their shop again! read more

Because it's so convenient I've used sandbox to send packages over the past 2 years without a problem. Today, I was really saddened by the service I observed and then received. The guy working the desk would ignore the questions asked by people I observed him helping (e.g. customer holding a filled out addressed label asking "do you need this to put on the box, or do you print one?" and then specifying it was her first time at Sandbox). The guy at the register ignored this question twice and just started typing on the computer (presumably thinking to himself, "i'll get to that" I guess..) I asked to buy stamps and noticed they came up on the screen as 70 cents per stamp. I asked him, "are stamps 70 cents now?!" thinking if so, I missed that update. He just said, "yeah." I asked again, if he was sure that stamps cost 70 cents to which he answered, "yeah everything's going up." I then looked up on my phone and saw that stamps are still 49cents, and when I brought it to his attention he got visibly mad, sucking his teeth at me, and just repeated I told you they're 70 cents. When I brought to his attention that USPS' website says stamps are 49 cents, he finally added those crucial words, "well we charge 70 cents per stamp." Will I use Sandbox again? yeah. Do I think they gave the service customers deserve today? No. read more

I have been here a few times now: first to print, copy and fax, second to buy boxes, and three to ship packages. Printing, Copying and Faxing was fairly cheap. Super! Buying boxes...not so cheap. Meh (to be expected). Shipping Packages...not so cheap either, but! I shipped four VERY large/heavy packages via FedEx (2-day) and they totalled out to be about the same price as shipping Ground (7day) USPS. Plus! The people here are much friendlier than the people that work at the Post Office. Yay! Avoid the Post Office at all costs. Come here instead! read more

If you actually wanted to be treated courteously by the staff, I wouldn't recommend you go there. Monique who works there is extremely rude and hung up in my face after I said "thank you, I'll try that" when I realized I had the wrong tracking number. If you really need to ship something there are several other options in the area where you won't be made to feel like an idiot for wanting to know where your packages are. They charge you to ship boxes that are prepaid shipping and then they have a $10 minimum for cards on top of that. Their customer service practices are a disgrace. read more

A neighborhood spot with a staff that remains calm, cool and collected in the line of fire. Even when it gets hectic in there. A pleasure to work with and on the rare occasion a mistake is made they own up to it and deal with it until they make it right. Wish I could say that about most places. Overall it's pretty impressive to find a mail center where going there doesn't feel like pulling teeth. There I leave with my teeth intact and my mind at ease. I only rate things I love and dis-like, and this place is awesome! They don't nickle and dime people. I.E. when I need to print something from online they do not charge me to get online. They have also been super helpful, professional and friendly when I have had to ship including internationally. Even helped me with a dispute at no extra charge. Packaging supplies are reasonably priced and they have everything you could possibly need. I would absolutely recommend them to anyone. Why bother with UPS, USPS, FEDEX or DHL when you can deal with Sandbox and they will deal with them instead. Great prices and super friendly staff. You can't say that at the post office! read more

I used to love this location -- convenient, professional, and a great option over the post office -- but they have progressively deteriorated. Every once in a while, staff is friendly and helpful but it's a gamble. My last few encounters, especially during COVID, have been frustrating. There seems to always be distractions. Staff on personal cell phones, today the employee had a guest taking selfies and chatting away, all while customers are required to stand outside in the hot sun. Social distancing is fine and responsible, but if you have people waiting, try expediting service by not being distracted with personal social exchanges. I loved Sandbox and wanted to reach out to a manager/owner but that seems impossible. Am tempted to return to the post office. PS - My customer just received package totally damaged. Sandbox employee encourage me to send FedEx vs. my usual Priority and got sassy about it being lower priced. That's what I get for listening to "experts." I'm done with Sandbox!!! read more
