I just went here for the first time last week for a celebratory graduation dinner for my sister. So I was all about living it up and trying lots of different stuff on the menu. We had veggie tempura to start (really nice). Next we ordered a couple of maki rolls, and they were very nice except for the piece of romaine lettuce that completely threw me off. I lived on the West coast for a few years, and I never had lettuce in my maki! Then we shared a hibachi dinner- filet mignon and scallops (which would have been plenty of food for 2 people without apps and sushi). It was absolutely fantastic! I actually moaned a little. ;) For dessert everyone shared a fried ice cream for dinner, which was a hit with everyone in our group. It was actually my least favorite part of the meal though since I don't have that much of a sweet tooth. All in all I'm giving Samurai 4 stars instead of 5 simply because 1. the sushi is pricey compared to other places in the area (quality is good, so still worth it) and 2. because they use lettuce in their maki! I'm from south Florida and we are a Mecca of great sushi. That being said getting off the plane and driving 15min to this restaurant was a very pleasant surprise! It's very close to the airport it right of route 43 and has great food. We order the hella hot roll the amazing roll and friend rice. The service was great, the food was even better and the place was pleasantly busy, it obviously has a following Of happy loyal Customers. The rolls had great flavor, generous proportions and a killer price point. The rolls were huge and delicious with a unique twist on sushi with amazing combinations and fun unique rolls. Food was great!!! Some of the rolls had too much cream cheese which made them extra heavy. The Black Dragon roll had my eyes roll back in my head. The rolls were on the higher end of price. I eat sushi quite often, and for the rolls that we had while good, I don't think they were that expensive. Every thing else considered, I would return. We made a reservation, were seated and then told we would have to move...(with 2 children and an adult who had back surgery 3 weeks ago). There was no ace for us to go. My son-in-law told the manager that this was unacceptable and his response was that we'd have to be patient. He later said, I don't care...bye bye. While I have done the whole Hibachi thang before and loved it, I didn't quite love the food at Samurai (for Hibachi!) and thought it was a tad overpriced. I spent almost $30 for Shrimp Hibachi (comes with mushroom soup and salad) and a soda. The rice tasted greasy/oily and the shrimp was tough and overcooked. The veggies were pretty good but they were just stir fried veggies- nothing to write home about. The griller was pretty okay with the sake bombs and food tossing however his serving skills could be a bit improved if I am gonna get technical here. When he went to put a serving a rice on your plate, he left a trail of rice from the grill to you plate and almost got it in someones beer! HA! It was kind of funny actually... This is a good choice on the north shore. They will accommodate any request such as light soy, no onions, etc. Sushi is fresh and the lunch specials are the best in the area. Easy place to like and great spot for kids. read more

I live near Samurai, so it's currently my go-to sushi spot. I would say it's generally above average in most areas: service is friendly, quality is consistent, decor is decent, and prices are reasonable. Milwaukee doesn't seem to have a wide selection of stellar sushi spots, so I would rank this place among the top Japanese restaurants in the area. I like that they offer Hibachi. The waitresses always ooh and ahhh over my toddler, even when he's being a handful. I can't complain about that! read more

Solid roll choices and friendly staff. My only concern was with the sashimi I ordered. I sat at the sushi bar and the sashimi pieces were pre-cut. Whenever I eat at other highter-end sushi restaurants it's very unusual to have your sashimi already pre-cut in the refrigerated-bar. My understanding it that it would go bad sooner that way (more surface area). Aside from the sashimi it was a great find in a smaller neighborhood. read more

Best sushi in Milwaukee, you will not be disappointed!! The menu has so many options for sushi or non-sushi guests. The rolls definitely are not lacking and probably the biggest in town for reasonable price. The spicy scallop is to die for! Got spicy California roll and spicy crabmeat roll tonight and it was good. I wish the spicy sauce was spicier and the rolls were cut smaller. They have great lunch deals during the week that I used to get monthly but have since moved from the area. Always make sure your to go order is correct. I have had 3 out of 5 orders that were wrong. The first time I picked up a large order, got home and found out they forgot the sushi! Overall good food but I have had better. Wish customer service was better. read more

Really enjoyed our dinner there tonight. Got seated as the last 4 at a Hibachi grill and were served very promptly. The Hibachi chef was a lot of fun and great at his craft. The assembled group, most of us not knowing more than a few people, was aged from 5 to 85 and all had their phones down and laughing. Now that's saying something in 2016! Top 3 items we had were ginger salad, plus shrimp and fried rice prepared at our grill. Have lived in the area for decades and never went in until tonight- glad we did. read more

I made reservations for the Hibachi table to celebrate my daughters birthday. We made the reservations for six people. When we got there, they actually sat us at two different Hibachi tables. I went to the front desk and asked them why they would split up a group of six. They told me that they did that to fit in as many people as they could. I was very disappointed and we finally decided to eat at a table in the general restaurant. The service was poor and they forgot some of the order. My dish which consisted of meat was tough and I finally ended up leaving most of it. On top of that they charged me an 18% gratuity. I have gone there many times before, but it seems as if they changed hands. I will never go back and would never recommend it to any of my friends. This place has decent food. The atmosphere is ok, and the hibachi is good. The reason I docked this place one star is because of the service. We had reservations at 5:30 and we walked in at 5:20, and we were seated. However, the waitress wanted us to order immediately and we hadn't even seen the menu. I told her we needed a few minutes, but she came back about a minute apart and kept insisting we order. We were going to order a sushi roll but the rolls are overpriced for what we saw around the restaurant and the waitress didn't give us enough time to look at them after we had decided on hibachi. After that, we didn't see her again the whole time. The hibachi chef was decent, although he did screw up the family's order next to us and they weren't thrilled, obviously. Will we go again? I was so excited to try Samurai after hearing marvelous things from friends. My one (and only) experience was ok. The sushi (screaming tuna) was not very screaming at all and the tempura rolls were decent but nothing overly special. The miso was good. The service seemed a little forced and it took the waitress over 15 minutes to get us a water. I thought the price was high (considerably higher than my favorites Ichiban and Fugiyama). I may return, but I'll probably just go to an "old trusty" sushi place instead:) read more

I come here when I have cravings for sashimi. They have the best sashimi I've tried so far. Never tried the hibachi so not sure about that. They have a good variety of dishes on the menu. So even if you don't enjoy sushi or want hibachi, there are still options opened to you. I've yet to encounter poor customer service here. The waiters and waitresses are pretty attentive. After going to Samurai several times before, I was completely disappointed when we stopped in tonight. So much so that we left. My kids have always ordered their hibachi dinners with noodles but this evening we were told that we had to order a side of noodles in addition to the dinners.
