Usually a great place to have pizza but TODAY while the owner (guy) was unboxing some cheese to refill the station. I seen him cough on the cheese and not close his mouth. Not once, not twice but three times. After that i just walked tf out. No bueno. read more

This is by far the best pizza in Riverdale/Kingsbridge hands down. It's close to up there with Joe's in Manhattan. I'm not saying it's as good but it's up there. I wish the topping were slightly better quality. The canned mushrooms aren't great. Also, I wish the pizza was sometimes a little crispier. But these are nitpicks because the pizza- from cheese to sauce to dough- is outstanding. read more

been a longggg time resident in kinsgsbridge, this place has been my go-to growing up but after the attitude sam gave me and my friend the other day...im a bit reluctant to go back. not only that but he once made a semi-racist dig at my friends uncle...played it off as a joke but it wasn't really funny...the pizza is good, no doubt about that, but the prices have been going up in a way that is exponential... read more

SOLID NY slice of pizza. The simple cheese slice is wow I actually tried a different pizza spot right before to compare and mmm the ingredients, crispy crust/dough, right amount of cheese was perfect. Unexpected gem. Will Def be back read more

I was a big fan and always advocated for this spot. However, their slices have shrunk while prices have grown. Also, they need to get with the times and start taking cards. I think they're the only pizza shop in nyc who doesn't. read more

So I have noticed, that the price have changed four times in the last six months... The pizza is good, but not that good ... went from $20 ,$25. This does not include any toppings just regular pizza ... That is unacceptable ... it is not like he has a variety of toppings... Or even deliver .... Other pizza shops in the area deliver and have a variety of toppings. It's more understandable about delivery and toppings and other things in that nature ... But in this case, nope it's not ... I don't think I'll be returning. This will be my last year for a long time if any. read more

Solid slice in the area. Had the pepperoni and the plain slice. Cozy vibe. Accepts credit cards.

The absolute best 'old time' slice you'll find in the Bronx! It's HUGE, and from the first bite to the last, you'll be licking your lips! Sam's also has Beef Patties and Garlic Knots (not a fan of their knots). They also have old school Italian Ices that are delicious on a hot summer day. Don't look to Sam's for Calzone, a Hero, Pasta or Salad, it's a Pizza Place! And, they do not delivery but you can call and place an order and it will be waiting for you. Super lovely owners who are always friendly. And yes, you may just see Tracy Morgan from SNL there because it's been his favorite pizza place for decades. read more

Used to come here after school for a quick meal and it tastes just as I remembered it. It's been over 8 years

The best pizzeria in the neighborhood hands down! You can never go wrong with a nice warm regular slice their signature

Pizza was excellent! Crispy crust and good amount of cheese and the slices were huge!

Followed several Yelpers' advice to try Sam's Pizza and they were right...it was AWESOME! My 2-year old daughter also approved and she's a pizza connoisseur! Lol No seriously, Sam's Pizza's nearly 5-star rating is well-deserved. Pizza: We had two plain slices and they were fresh out of the oven, hot and really, really good! Atmosphere: It's a small neighborhood pizzeria, so not much standing room, but surprisingly they had two small tables where you could sit and enjoy - very important with hungry, heavy toddler on your hip! Lol Inside was very clean - even the stainless steel trash can was spotless! Super important during COVID, and just in general - two thumbs up for that! Customer Service: The pizza maker (assuming it was Sam, but not sure) was super-busy with a steady stream of customers, but took the time to be really pleasant. Next time I visit, I'll likely order a pie to bring back to rest of the fam. Overall Consensus: If you're looking for a quick bite or just in the mood for good pizza, definitely visit if you're in the area...or just take a trip to grab a pie - trust me, it'll be worth it ;-) read more

My favorite plain slice around here. $3 for a huge foldy but crispy and appropriately greasy slice of heaven. I'm a disciple of Frank Pepe but Sam's ranks up there with Joe's downtown for a New York style slice in my book. read more

@@ road trip post @@ Pros: * Open until midnight. Obviously horribly planning skills has us going through New York around 11 p.m. and we were all hangry. Most other places we were considering around Harlem/Bronx were closed. * HUGE slides for $3.00. Cheap. * Taste. I wanted to try the Sicilian but we ended up doing two NY slices, one with mushrooms one just cheese. The crust was bomb and the cheese/sauce were good too. * Bathroom is small (very small) but clean. * Despite the place itself being small there's two booths in the back -- or you can eat on the counter. * Can order slices or whole pies. In person, whole pies take about 20 minutes. Cons: * Cash only. I guess there's an ATM close by according to another customer but we ended up having enough cash so I can't confirm. * Pizza on the oily/soggy side toward the tip of the pizza. * A little slow to end transaction. The two guys on the trip didn't like how uninterested the pizza guy was in processing payment (he was making pizzas). I don't relate but he definitely didn't seem to be rushed about it. read more

This has to be the worst pizza in NYC! They literally only have one oven sleeve so they can only cook one pie at a time and with so many people ordering pizza the pie comes out raw and doughy with absolutely no flavor and they don't use gloves when preparing, cooking, and packing the pizza! The counter girl serves pizza and counts money with no gloves on! Never again... read more

#11 I can see why this spot is such a staple in the neighborhood. Steps away from the 1 train, this place made the list because of a AMNY article on best NYC pizza. I found the regular slice to be a little too doughy for my taste buds. Plenty of cheese, but the grease seemed to drown out the flavors a little bit. That said, it was a delicious slice and I will give them another try once this pandemic is over. read more

By far the B E S T pizza I have ever had. I am from California and was on the East Coast- we randomly pulled off the freeway and found this spot at 11pm at night and wow it was amazing. The dough, the cheese, the sauce- perfect! Also, the service was great! Very, very genuinely nice. If you have not tried it, you're missing out. I can't wait to make a trip back to the East Coast so I can come back to Sam's!! read more

Sam's Pizza - Best pizza ever. Hands down. - Pizza Near Me - Bronx, New York

I just left Sam's in tears. This was my family's pizza spot growing up - we ordered it for every birthday party and event, and always came here to eat. I have never in my life been treated by a restaurant owner the way Anesti treated me tonight. I ordered two slices to stay, didn't hear him when he called me even though I was sitting right next to the counter. Over 5 minutes go by so I checked if they were ready, and saw a box with two slices in it. I asked if they were mine and he practically yelled at me saying that he called me "a long time ago" and acted like it was an inconvenience. Uh, sir - I ordered two slices and you clearly had no problem giving my money order to someone else, when you knew it was mine. Did you think I disappeared or something? Then, after my meal I wanted to talk to him and all he tells me is to throw out the stuff on my tray, as if I was supposed to know that. I am never, ever coming here again, and am telling all my friends and family in the area to avoid coming back here. They were coming here before I was even born, so you've just lost dozens of customers. Sam was WAY better and nicer, and so was his product. I've stopped crying now. read more

I ordered 2 Large Pies . When we opened the Box. It was very Greacy and Cold . Very thin and tasted Nasty. We paid $40 for horrible Pizza. Money down the drain and Pizza thrown into the Garbage. read more

I will keep it short and simple. Ever since Matt left way back the place hasn't been the same. I don't go there frequently like I did either. The slices are still big and good but the caesar slices are small IMO. This was my all time favorite pizza place since moving here over 20 years ago. It isn't friendly either more like what do you want? here, get out! Bring back Matt if possible! read more

Sams pizza is the best pizza in the Bronx, maybe in the whole city. The sauce is just right and it's just the right combination of oil, sauce and cheese. A real delight read more

I live around the corner. I was told such great things about this place when I first moved to the block. Then I went in. The husband is nice, the wife is iffy. I hate that she never asks for she can help you. She just stands there and you're like "helloooo?!" The slices are huge, but they are extremely greasy and soggy. It's like they under bake it. The garlic knots have ZERO flavor. Just so disappointing. I really don't understand all these big ratings. Either they just haven't really tried more pizza around the city or they are fake reviews. I've had waaaay better pizza in other parts of THE Bronx...I grew up in Queens...Real deal pizza out there. BK and Manhattan, awesome pizza. This place? I rather go to Broadway Pizza next to Rainbow. On point always. read more

This is a place that's never going to make any of the lists of best pizza places in NYC, but I'm giving it 5 stars because it's truly the platonic ideal of the New York slice. - The crust isn't too thick or too thin. It's a little bit crispy, but also a little bit doughy. - The sauce is flavorful, but not too distinctive. - The cheese is flavorful and a little salty, but not too salty. It's a slice that's sort of average in every way, but in a way that's greater than the sum of its parts. It's not the "best" slice in NYC (that's probably the original Patsy's in east harlem), but it may just be the New Yorkiest slice and a thoroughly enjoyable one at that. read more

I have been coming to this place since I was a kid at about 9 years old! I'm 45 now.... My dad brought me here and my grandfather brought him here from when he was about 9.... Still the best pizza in the city. Every time I come home, this is my first stop!! read more

Best pizza on 231 street. Never disappointed. Everything is on point, true definition of a NYC slice

I wanted to love Sam's, but nothing about the experience here was positive except for the smiles from fellow customers (all locals besides me*). Albanian owners are fine, and no room to move in the joint on a Friday night is to be expected, and compromising on the pizza part by also selling meat patties is OK too, but the crust here is really subpar. I suppose it's hard to knock your longtime local pizzeria*, but the apparent recent renovation didn't distract from the bland looking and tasting knots (4/$1). Some parts skew from charming to concerning, like when 2 different children who appear to be the kids of the 2 folks running the shop were in danger (one trying to raise the door, the other handed a knife with the blade facing her). *Aside from the copious fake reviews, I realize now that every 5-star is skewed by childhood memories. PS they take orders accordingly, so if you're a newbie, expect to wait even longer read more

Sam's Pizza - awkward. - Pizza Near Me - Bronx, New York

At $3 a slice, I think I expected too much. When I walked in the woman working with the pizzas and man at counter looked at me and then looked away. Initially I thought they were busy, but they were not. I waited and waited for them to ask me "what can I get you?" or something, but nothing. So after it was clear they were not going to look at me, I said "can I get a slice?. No smile or nod, just handed me a slice. Very odd. The slice wasn't very memorable. Yes, it's large but I thought the sauce and crust was rather bland. Not sure why I would trek here from manhattan to eat here like other reviewers have suggested. read more

This place is tiny even for pizza shop standards. Blink and you'll miss it. I know firsthand, as the first time I tried to visit I couldn't find it because I did write down an exact address--which has happened only 1 other time. I finally found myself back in the area, so I made it a point to stop here. There are 2 tables to sit at in the back, only 2 doors on the very short oven (one of which is blocked by the counter), the mom and son owners behind the counter talking in Greek, a piece of pizza-art on the wall in the form of a slice made of tarp, and a little room in front of the counter to order. As Armenoush A. said they've been around for a long time, so I was excited to try this. The result was good but nothing more. The crust was decent but didn't much depth or flavor to it; it had crispness on the outer rim, but not underneath. I should've asked for it well done. The cheese was very creamy as it was whole milk processed mozzarella. The sauce was good but the slice was skewed more towards the cheese. My facist pizza ratings aside, this was a good slice of pizza. Similar to Louie & Ernie's in Pelham Bay, this is a good Bronx neighborhood joint that while noteworthy, doesn't quite measure up in a "best pizza in NYC debate", but could be worth a mention for "best in the bronx". I will give this another shot when I come back to the area for Jewish delis (Loeser's & Liebman's), but until then my rating stands. read more

Addendum: I've been going here a lot lately, and the pizza is still great. I appreciate consistency and I've never been disappointed. Also, as far as the crowds go in my last review, they haven't been so bad lately. Sure, the place is still small and you will almost certainly have to share a table if you come in alone or with just one other person, but it's not a big deal. At the right times this spot seems to calm down. I guess you just have to follow this rule of thumb: In the Bronx, and probably most overpopulated places, avoid going anywhere between 3pm and 5pm on a school day. The streets belong to the children then, and they will make you suffer for your trespass. 5 Stars, delicious. read more
