Each table was WELL appointed with all the goodies I could ask for.

Today I had the immense pleasure of trying Sam's Cafe in Ceres for the first time. Why didn't anyone tell me about this place before? I decided to take a friend out for a Christmas lunch. She has had some serious health issues and we used to play in a couple of bands back in the day (last millennium) and always are in need to swap stories. We arrived at Sam's, found parking right outside, and entered. We were immediately seated and our drink order taken. We got coffee for her and my iced tea quite soon thereafter. I noticed that the place was both clean inside and out, a well as busy, and the staff was on keeping it so while we were there. I ordered a bowl of chili (which wasn't on the menu that I could see) just to test them a bit, and asked for the added onions be grilled and then cheese on top of that. They totally nailed it and the chili was delicious. My fellow diner was impressed with her omelette, and remarked a couple of times on the high quality of the coffee (which was refreshed often while we were there). I have to admit to a bias toward these small, mom and pop places as I like the great quality and service I find consistently at them. I highly recommend Sam's and plan to visit the next time I am in the area.

Egg white omelette with just ham and plain English Muffin.
Kelly M.

I came here at 11am on a Monday with a friend of mine. Was not busy at all. I ordered an egg white omelette with no cheese and just ham and a lightly toasted, unbuttered English Muffin. I asked that the omelette not be cooked in butter or oil and they did a good job of making it and it was a good size as well. Came out fast and hot! I ate everything on my plate. I had black coffee to drink and it was good as well, although we had to flag down the waitress a few times for refills (I needed a lot of coffee - full disclosure). My friend had eggs over easy, sausage, hash browns and toast. I didn't get a picture. She said hers was okay. She would have preferred a sausage patty over links. It was nice and quiet inside. Clean and love that it's independently owned. Note: they should go through and trash any plates that have chips in them. Plates aren't that expensive and mine had a small chip in it. It kind of cheapens the place in my opinion. But I would definitely go back! The staff were all very friendly. I tip on the high side and the bill was $35 ($10 tip for the waitress having to deal with my picky food preferences and constant coffee refills, so $45 total). If I lived in Ceres I would be here weekly for sure if not more!

Corn beef hash with eggs country style potatoes and biscuits and gravy

Nice little cafe in the Ceres area right off of highway 99. Came here on a Thursday morning around 1030ish and was able to get a table right away. All the workers were very nice with great attitudes and our orders were taken right away. The food is very home style cooking and basic but everything came out very fresh and tasted good. I myself got the Corn beef hash and eggs, my wife got the French toast. Like I said it all tasted good but basic, not necessarily a bad thing if you're just looking for some nice home cooking style food. When I say basic I mean they aren't trying to create crazy style dishes, everything is straightforward (eggs, pancakes, French toast, omelettes, etc.) The food was also good portions and I will say the prices are very fair! I will definitely come back here for a nice easy breakfast.

3-21-2026 I've been here many times and have always received great service. But today was much different. It was the first time in 16 years where I didn't leave a tip and I always tip generously. The impression I was given was that she didn't want to wait on me. She had a cold demeanor. She only came to check on me when she slapped the ticket. By that time I was already done eating. She brought 2/3 of my order out. Then she brought another tables order. She forgot to bring me my biscuit and gravy. I had to grab her attention from across the room and then she remembered. The food here is always amazing! Today I had the Chili Cheese Omelette, a jr pancake, and a biscuit with gravy. For my beverages I had orange juice, coffee and ice water. I always leave 5 star reviews for 98% of the places I eat at.

My husband and I have been going to Sam's for 2-3 years now. The food is delicious. Cooked just how you order and comes to the table nice and hot. The staff are friendly and efficient. They make you feel like one of the family. They always greet me by name when I come in. We even ordered food during COVID and it was still tasty and hot "to-go". I totally recommend this place. It's my favorite restaurant in town. I only wish they were open for dinner. We need a diner in town to do dinner with hearty portions of good old American cuisine. Don't get me wrong. I love ethnic cuisine but we have plenty of those in town. Thank you to Sam's Cafe. You're #1 in my book...Darla

French Toast Deluxe (with eggs, bacon and sausage). Amazing!

The food was good and the service was very good. Nice clean cafe with an attentive staff. The breakfast I had was good yet nothing to exciting about the flavor. A little bland.

Veggie omlette & country potatoes

Very tasty and filling cafe. A salute to old school diner flair in a small town. My friend said he passed by last weekend and there was a line of people that we should check it out. I'm always down for breakfast We got lucky, no line but we did wait a but since the small Cafe had no available tables. We checked in at the counter and we're given a table beeper then asked to wait outside. No worries, it didn't take too long once out group of 3 were seated we excitedly checked out the menus. After my and his mother ordering coffee, he ordered juice, not a coffee guy. Lol. Many options even for me the vegetarian. He had county fried steak, eggs, country potatoes, biscuits and gravy. I forget what his mom ordered and I ordered a veggie omlette with country taters, sourdough toast. Near the end of our meal a waitress dropped off a plate of pancakes. Random. Cool. My buddy packed some of his breakfast and tried out the pancakes. Everyone had leftovers for a whole meal each for later. Yes we had to-go boxes.

Denver Omelette with crispy hashbrowns

We were traveling home a looked for a quick breakfast place to stop at. Sam's Cafe showed up on the map and had good reviews. Sam's Cafe did not disappoint. The service was great. Every staff member was moving quickly and very friendly. Service was on point. I asked for crispy hashbrowns and that is exactly what I got. The food was very good. The omelettes were fluffy and cooked to perfection. The pancake was great. It was light and flavorful. Of course the coffee did not disappoint and our cups were always full.

The chicken fried steak was huge! Delicious! They didn't have fresh juice so i opted for water. The food was pretty great and the portions were massive! The service itself was ehh but the food made up for it. The coffee wasn't anything special. My son really enjoyed the pancakes. We would probably go again!

They rolled with it without hesitation, which I always appreciate. My wife was meeting me a little later, and they timed everything beautifully. The food was on the table only about five minutes before she arrived, and with warm sandwiches and soup involved, the timing mattered. Everything was just the right temperature when we sat down to eat. We both ordered the Uptown Gal--roast beef, giardiniera, Dijon aioli, arugula, and white cheddar on house focaccia. The flavors were spot on, and these are substantial sandwiches. In fact, next time we could probably share one. We also shared the jalapeño Parmesan artichoke dip, which was excellent. We enjoyed some there and brought the rest home. The soups didn't have the same opportunity--we polished those off pretty quickly. Very flavorful. The iced tea was clearly freshly brewed and quite strong, which I actually prefer because I can adjust it to taste. It came in a generously sized glass as well. Lucille is a small place, but they've made very good use of the space. The interior is attractive and has a slightly modern, new-age feel. There was a steady stream of people dining in and picking up orders, and it wouldn't take many more customers to fill the place. I also noticed a nice wine selection and an espresso machine. One other thing stood out: the employees seemed genuinely happy to be there. Lots of smiles and a pleasant atmosphere throughout our visit. Excellent food, generous portions, good timing, and a staff willing to accommodate a customer who showed up a little ahead of schedule. An easy five stars from us.

The service is ALWAYS amazing…read more On this day, I got a soup of the day and one of the sandwiches I can not remember the name of, nor did I take a picture. However it was DELICIOUS! It had roasted turkey, avocado, tomato and on a roll. The soup of the day was an Orzo soup. I wish it would have been hotter and more soup like, but it was STILL DELICIOUS. I do get kinda disappointed when I go in there because they have tea, but no lemonade and I'd love an Arnold Palmer... They should put that on their menu I did order the coffee cake. It was good, but I wish there was something more to it. It was a little dry.

The ube latte was also pretty good, definitely ube flavor, but a lot sweeter and not as much coffee flavor. I had the tri-tip breakfast burrito, which was actually super yummy! I liked the consistency of the salsa, just wish it had some actual spice to it. But the tri-tip meat itself inside was really tender. There is a lot of space inside, but I do wish they had some outdoor seating because it was so freezing cold inside. Other than that, service was good, and our order came out pretty fast, which was expected since we were the only ones there early on a Friday morning.
