The whole family enjoyed lunch at Sammy T's. The food was good and reasonably priced. My brother had no complaints about his pulled pork sandwich, and my vegetarian italian quesadilla with basil, tomatoes, and cheese (from the monthly specials menu) was very tasty and quite filling. My favorite part of the meal was the onion rings. They obviously make them fresh in house with just enough batter, not those ones that you get at chain restaurants that are so coated in thick batter that you can barely taste the onion. The entrance to the non-smoking section is around the side of the building, which meant that it was actually smoke free! The only caveat I would mention is that in the non-smoking section the most they can seat together is five, more than that and you'll have to split up between tables, but that is a small price to pay for a good meal! read more

So, the food was decent, and while I would not go back, if someone was dying to try it, I would not veto it. Thought it was a little overpriced. Sammy's has many vegan and vegetarian options, which is awesome. We sat outside, and the tables were filthy. Our server was really nice, and service was good, though we were left for a while after finishing before she checked on us. I had the black bean nachos, which were tasty, and came with homemade salsa, which was very good. The fries have the potential to be excellent - flavorful, but not crunchy. The bf said his turkey sandwich was only OK, but noted that it could be because he wanted Thai food instead (I had a fit and said that Thai food did not fit in with the town feel, and that I wanted to go to a tavern/ale house type place. It seems Sammy's is always busy and for good reason. Sammy T's has been a favorite of mine since 1986 when I moved here. It is a unique family-owned restaurant in historic downtown (which has many great restaurants). Sammy passed away a few years ago and his relatives now own it. They changed the main bar/dining to non-smoking but kept the menu true to the original. There are many vegetarian and vegan items on the menu as well as hearty classic sandwiches and entrees. Their weekly specials menu is also very interesting which blends flavors in a meal you may not otherwise put together yourself. On tap are several beers that will suit your taste, above and beyond the bud light types. The staff efficiently takes care of customers and it's always buzzing with tourists and regulars alike. Casual, cozy, dim, bar-like atmosphere, the building dates back to the civil war and the restaurant has had a good reputation for decades in the area. To mention a few awesome menu choices... The burgers, black bean quesadilla, nachos, lemon tahini dressing on any salad, Greek salad, Brunswick stew, double-stacked club sandwich, crab cake sandwich, salmon BLT, fresh cut fries, along with a fresh ice tea or a beer...I could go on and on. Oh yea, and save room for chocolate mousse as dessert. Can't beat fresh food, such a variety of choices and a friendly, hometown atmosphere! If anyone is taking notes from the restaurant, I wish they would add two of my favorites back on the menu ... Spicy black bean dip, and from way back, the Hot Pocket. Sammy T's was a nice surprise while lunching with work folks as we were in town for a client. We were able to walk in around 12:30 for lunch and get seated right away despite it being pretty bustling inside. The server was kind and patient as we took a while to look through the extensive menu. I got the Mediterranean plate with hummus and tzatziki. It came with a great amount of veggies that were fresh and cut so that they could be dipped easily. The pita was warm and fresh, and plentiful. I couldn't finish the bread and that is rare when you order dips. I am always asking for more bread and here I didn't have to. Probably also some of the tastiest and best tzatziki and hummus I've had! Hummus had a great texture, not too stiff and perfect hints of garlic. It was large and plenty for lunch. My colleagues liked all their dishes and the vegetarian of the group was very impressed with all the options she had to choose from. I really loved this place for offering so many healthy choices. This place is great for vegetarians! I ordered the vegetarian club and sweet potato fries and was very impressed with both the taste and presentation. The vegetarian club is not your average sandwich which is what I was expecting... it's huge! The hummus inside the sandwich is so delicious. It tastes like roasted red pepper but seems to be home made. The sweet potato fries were just the right amount of crispy for me and tasted so fresh. I'm excited to go back and try their falafel pita and tofu options! This is not just a vegetarian/vegan restaurant. They have plenty of options for meat lovers but they are just more veggie friendly compared to other restaurants. read more

I purchased chips with housemade salsa (store bought chips, good salsa - i'dk about how in-house it is though), $5 salmon blt on pumpernickel (bread freshish, not in-store-made, the lettuce Is full, large leaves - so that's good, the salmon nearly flavorless and very overcooked, bacon was generous, premade & crispy - not too fatty) $12 I also ordered a apple crisp which is a discrace to apple crisp, see picture. $4 - I think Overall I would not bother coming here again u less I was seeking veg-type foods. read more

Allergen Alert. Make sure you ask and double ask about their food if you have food allergies. One of their salads is marked GF on the menu but contains tabbouleh, which is bulgur wheat and contains gluten. They were apologetic but I am very sick because of their misleading menu. read more

Fredricksburg was my great retreat away from Stafford on my work trip! Beer please! Unfortunately I don't remember what it was called, what's important is that it was a local brew. I do remember it being creamy. SammieTs is a solid choice for a vegan. They offer many choices on their menu labeled with a big fAt V's next to those items. Although there were many vegan choices I proceeded to go with my love for the sea and ordered the crab cakes. Fluffy nice crab cakes, salad and french fries. Another beer please! We used to go to Sammy Ts all the time under the old management and it was amazing. Since they reopened they scored down their menu (which isn't necessarily a bad thing although I miss their tempeh burger), and revamped the decor a bit. Have to say, we've been twice since they reopened and the food is mediocre. Much more on the bland side than it used to be. Their cornbread with honey butter is bomb though! I'd stick with their appetizers for now on and drinks. Same friendly staff which is great! read more

It can get noisy and lively in the evenings that's the fun. First time back at Sammy T's since it reopened and I will never return. Severely disappointed in the food quality and service. My boyfriend and I went for lunch and ordered the nachos for an appetizer... which charges a $2 fee if you want to add black beans. Before, nachos included black beans as a staple ingredient, which made the nachos that was worth $5 actually $11.50. The nachos arrived which a crusty blanket of nonmelted cheese, cheese from a few slices of Kraft singles. I ordered the "gourmet" burger, which wasn't a burger, since it came between two sandwich slices... no bun... Plus, it came with "chips" ... Actual potato chips from a bag. Before, sandwiches would come with fries as a default. My boyfriend ordered the Camper's Special, and the burrito had two nonmelted slices of Kraft singles caked on top. The flavors were all wrong. Overall, way overpriced for the quality of food, which was far subpar. We used to eat at Sammy T's often before they closed down, but under the new management, we will not be returning. It's a shame, since we were really looking forward to keep Sammy T's as a favorite restaurant of ours. read more

This place is OK. Nothing awesome but the food was fine. One negative is the booths-- the benches are not deep enough-- they hit my sister and I mid thigh (we are 5'5") so sitting here for more than a few minutes isn't comfortable and it would likely be worse for a tall person. One and done. Not only did this place strike out, they completed the inning. One of the specials for the evening was a gyro which, naturally, he pronounced jī-()rō instead of yē-rō. Strike one. I'll bet they'd sell more if the chef took the time to teach the staff what it is they were servicing and how to pronounce it. My ears hurt. I ordered a glass of house white wine. The wine itself it was passable for a house wine but it took way too long to be served from the time I ordered it. Strike two. When our server did bring it, he grabbed the bowl of the glass. Strike three. This isn't Denny's. Never grab the bowl of a glass of wine. No one wants your fingerprints on it. The glass has a stem for a reason. Must be all that training again. We ordered their skewered shrimp appetizer. It came late to the table, just before our mains. The shrimp was luke warm at best and barely grilled. It didn't taste too bad but it certainly wasn't exceptional either. The mango salsa was run-of-the-mill as if it came from a jar. The shrimp itself tasted as if it were pre-cooked and then just placed on the grill to give it some marking. Strike four. Had we not already ordered dinner, I was ready to walk out. My wife ordered their "gourmet burger." Again, nothing special. The sad part was, they toasted the *outside* of the bun as well as the instead. Who does that? Why on earth do I want to put my hands on a burnt piece of bread that was just placed in what I can only assume was butter. Strike five. The burger came with "chips." You'd think by looking at the place and based on the price, they would serve some homemade chips. Nope. Plain Jane chips straight out of a bag. Strike six. I ordered their Pecan Chicken with the potato of the day. Turns out the chicken is simply a boneless chicken breast grilled on top of some chopped pecans in an indistinguishable sauce. The chicken was served hot and cooked well but, once again, run-of-the-mill. It tasted like it could be served at Cracker Barrel. Now comes the potato of the day -- potato wedges. Cold, dense, flavorless, and under seasoned. After one bite, I left them on the plate. Strike seven. Only once during our meal did the server glance at us when walking by. My wine glass was nearly empty and he didn't even bother to ask if I wanted another glass. Strike eight. Lost revenue and an unhappy customer. Strike nine. A no-hitter. read more

4.5 out of 5! We were looking for a restaurant that had dine in service, preferably outdoor seating since it was such as nice night. Sammy T's offered both. We looked for pizza places and their name came up, so we were slightly disappointed when there was none on the menu (-.25 star), but they had a great menu. We were seated right away. Our server was friendly, humorous and professional. The crab dip appetizer was terrific. A lot of places go overboard with Old Bay seasoning, but they didn't. We ordered the burger (for her) and the french dip (for me). Both were very good. The french dip was a big sandwish (should probably serve a little more aus ju with it -.25 star). The orders of fries were huge! Both the regular fries and the sweet potato fries come out hot and delicious and not too salty or over-seasoned. The beer selection was a little limited. With the number of craft breweries in the area, it would have been nice to see more local stuff on the menu. Overall, great place with great service. read more

This is a local institution but has gone down hill with the new owners. Anyone can have an off day, but this is the second time with a similar experience. I ordered a sandwich that had a description with onions. I hate onions and asked if I could get it without. I was told not a problem. Of course when the sandwich came, it came with onions. I sent it back. Guess what, their fix was to put it back on the grill to burn all the onions to hide them. I of course sent it back and said not to bring me anything else. My family ate their food. Just to add insult to injury, when the check came they charged me for the sandwich. Like I said this is the second time I sent something back and they didn't fix it. My salad was delicious and the added shrimp were seasoned to perfection and so yummy!!! A large helping for sure. My husband had the tomato soup with some really tasty crackers and the grilled turkey & cheese panini with the best sweet potato fries ever. The service was wonderful and our waiter even offered tips on things to do in Fredericksburg. I wish I could have added photos but we wolfed it all down before I could snap. I just made my last visit to Sammy T's! The waitress, Kate, was supper wonderful....it doesn't get much better. However, as I was leaving, I was standing at the door waiting for my friend to come from the bathroom. There were two other groups of people waiting to be seated. The man seating people dropped a silverware/napkin set that rolled all over the floor. He picked it up and put it in his back butt pocket as to "dispose" of it later. I watched him come back around, pull the same dirty napkin set from his back pocket and set a new table with it!! I'm disgusted! He knew it wasn't right, but thought it ok since no one noticed.
