Stopped here on an afternoon wandering around the town. Was asked if we had a reservation and they acted like the place was so packed we needed it and then they "would see what they could do". We ended up outside on the patio and pretty much every table we passed on the way out there and on the way back out of the restaurant was completely empty so I was so confused why we couldn't sit inside. The menu is limited at best. I felt there were a ton of classic items you see at most Italian restaurants not offered. Fettuccine Alfredo? Nope. Lasagna? Nope. No choices of sauces and no choices of pasta styles. The sauce is on the sweet side, if you're into that. The pasta didn't taste homemade, but wasn't awful. Service was friendly, people were nice, but I wouldn't come back here if I'm looking for more traditional classic Italian dishes. It was fine to try for a quick afternoon stop. read more

Bello Manzo was my final destination & end to a beautiful day in downtown Fredricksburg, Virginia. My husband came to Bello to eat by himself and I met up with him later after seeing some shops. He raved how delicious the food was and was finishing his dessert of tiramisu. He never orders a dessert especially after eating an appetizer and meatball sandwich at Bello Manzo. I was still full from an early brunch and ordered their chilled dry white wine from Italy and Diet Pepsi with ice water. Our server was very nice and professional. She refilled my Diet Pepsi several times without prompting and noticed how quickly I drank each glass she refilled. This restaurant was a nice place to rest and take a break from a long hot day of window shopping and walking. I liked how clean the place was and the menu items. Local art and paintings were displayed in the restaurant for sale. My husband got me an iced Diet Pepsi to go after paying the bill. Before we left , one of the ladies eating there recommended the semi sweet sparkling cava white wine to me. I made a mental note to try it next time we go there. read more

Loved stopping here for a bite to eat! If you could order one thing on the menu: it HAS to be the arancini!!! Out of this world. My family was fighting for the last bite. The main reason we wanted to stop here was for the Italian beef sandwich/sub. If you've watched the show The Bear, then you already know the curious wondering of how good this Chicago staple really is. No wonder they made a show around it. We decided to pop in for an afternoon date while strolling around downtown on a Thursday afternoon. The place was relatively empty, but considering the time frame it could have not been reflective of the food or service. the restaurant is quaint with a simple aesthetic not overdone in the traditional way that Italian restaurants can have of going overboard. There were about ten tables total in the establishment. We were greeted and our waitress did her best to navigate all of our questions. She was friendly enough during our visit, and attentive enough without hovering. We decided on an assortment of items based on our conversation with the waitress about what was made in house versus sourced pre-prepared. The menu is front and back but it is not overwhelming by any means. They have a nod to some Chicago classics by having the Italian beef sandwich and Italian sausage but that is it for the specialities. I thought I saw a Chicago Dog online but sadly, they did not have it on the menu. First up: what we ordered--We got toast as an appetizer, and I got a small Italian salad. My husband got the calamari and I got a fish sandwhich with fries. I don't often finish my food so we decided to share it. I got a sweet tea to drink and my hubby got a gin and tonic. Let me preface this by saying the food was absolutely beautiful. Like picture perfect, but it was certainly a mixture of perfectly cooked items I could pick up at the grocery store I believe. The garlic toast was the frozen toast slices you get from the grocery store (you know in the yellow box) perhaps id imagined crusty bread or something that required effort but alas.... It was cooked perfectly though, so no complaints other than it came with three slices and nothing to dip, so I used some of my husband's marinara sauce and that went perfectly with the dish. I'd recommend asking for some. It seemed homemade if it wasn't and I'm sure would be great on some pasta. The calamari was also perfectly cooked and my husband enjoyed it. The salad was a good portion size and included traditional Italian dressing. Well worth it on that one. The fish sandwhich was just okay. It was fried well but was a basic cod patty and there wasn't enough sauce on the sandwhich to really make it flavorful. The fries do not come with the sandwhich and are an upcharge. They were crispy and semi breaded fries. Again, not bad but not spectacular either. The total for our meal was about $60 and I think that's fair. Pricing on the menu is decent and is certainly reflective of the quality of food you're getting. The ambience of the place supersedes the quality of the food that we got at least in terms of food we ordered. It seems to be a small family owned establishment and I think that is wonderful. Great for a quick bite but I wouldn't expect gourmet. They are excellent at preparing the food though which I'd prefer to homemade but not done right. read more

I'd been meaning to try this place for a long time and today was finally the day. The menu is not extensive but they have some shareables, sandwiches and entrees. We started with the meatballs (3 per order) and they were delicious. Soft and juicy and in great marinara sauce. For my main plate I had the Huevos Rotos and my companion had the Italian beef sandwich, both of which were great. Just the right amount of good and good flavor. Service was fantastic! Though it's got a menu and is not cafeteria style, the homey ambiance, the plating and the seating arrangements feel like "family informal, come sit at the table and eat." The marinara sauce is basic but tasty, and the Brussels sprouts roasted in olive oil were scrumptious! Hearty pasta servings. The wait stuff was also so nice and felt like home. My mom and I decided to come here on a whim, and I'm not disappointed. We got the calamari, garlic fries, Italian combo, and a classic Italian salad. The calamari was fresh and crispy, the fries were delicious and made with fresh garlic! The Italian combo was very filling, I personally loved it. The salad's ingredients were very fresh and my mom enjoyed it. The ambiance is warm and inviting, and the staff were so personable. They were quick, and we talked for a little while! We even got a tour of the rest of the restaurant. For fresh, authentic Italian food, the prices are incredibly affordable. They haven't changed their pricing in 2 years! Nice servers, food is good, they let us sample some wines that we thought about purchasing, food portions are small. Unfortunately, when we were there, they had loud family members, workers, or friends, that were not considerate of customers. We liked the place so much... but they need to understand that people go there for a nice meal, conversation, & not to hear people, that aren't even eating there, laughing, & carry on with loud interactions. We kept hoping they'd "Read the Room," but it was close to a hour, and they still were not getting the hint. We could see the faces of a few customers, too, & they did not look happy either. One of the ladies in their group was also on the phone the whole time, but talking & laughing, obnoxiously loud. (Maybe a loss of hearing issue?) We kept contemplating letting them know that this is not acceptable behavior for a nice restaurant because we don't want their business to fail. We are hoping someone else let them know that this is not good ambiance. ‍SUGGESTION: They could use the back room with nice tables for their friends, workers, family members, & this would help their business out. We had a lovely dinner here at Bello Manzo. Ruth (she and her husband own the restaurant) made us feel very welcome. We took the only outside table on the street. It was First Friday so there were lots of people walking by and it was clear that in its 10 months, Bello Manzo has developed relationships with a lot of the locals. We split a house salad (very nice) and we both ordered the Pasta Manzo (with marinara sauce; the man ordered his with sausage) and we both thought it was delicious. I had a glass of the house wine - an Italian red - and was pleasantly surprised by how good it was. We were too full for dessert so I can't comment on the selection. After we ate, Ruth walked us through the restaurant and we were shocked to see how big it is. It just goes on and on, culminating in the back with backyard outdoor patio seating and a bar with a dance floor. This is a great place for a quiet dinner for two or a large party. Lovely service simple atmosphere delicious Primavera spaghetti dish with a fettuccine Alfredo sauce. The Alfredo sauce was so good. Their brussels sprouts as an appetizer was cooked wonderfully and flavor was great. The calamari did not seem freshly floured and prepared. I think it was from frozen but still it tasted OK. My son ordered a spaghetti Parmesan dish with chicken. And he had to send it back because the sauce was overly sweet, and it had a hint of a flavor as if the garlic in the sauce had been burnt and the chicken had literally a square slice of cheese over on top of it. That was partially melted. It just wasn't a good dish so he ordered the Primavera with the Alfredo sauce and he loved it. They were very nice about taking the dish back. My only criticism is that they don't provide you with free bread with the meal. It's a little odd for an Italian restaurant. I think they could at least if they had to charge they could at least charge a dollar. read more

Called just for a soup takeout for my hubby that was under the weather. They told me $7 for a crab and corn chowder and had to be cash since it didn't meet the minimum charge amount. I brought cash. Not one person there for Sunday evening dinner. They said they will close early since no one there. Nice little place, very friendly. My hubby said it was very spicy. My wife and I found Bello Manzo while walking around Downtown Fredericksburg last summer. It has become a weekly habit. Ruth and Jose have put together the perfect family restaurant. We're always greeted with a hug and know we are appreciated. Esis, one the servers always takes impeccable care of us. And the food? Truly have never had even a mediocre dish. The Chicago Beef and Italian Sausage sandwiches are amazing. The pasta dishes are plentiful but not enormous and very flavorful. The soups are a must, even if it's warm out.
