New to the area, and what an amazing experience! From the outside, the restaurant looks smaller than it actually is, but once inside, it's surprisingly spacious with a warm, traditional Sicilian atmosphere that immediately makes you feel welcome. Our waiter, Jack, was an absolute superstar. He was knowledgeable, attentive, funny, and incredibly helpful with our selections. He truly made the evening special. We started with the calamari and a salad with goat cheese, walnuts, and pomegranate unfortunately, I can't remember the name of it, but it was absolutely delicious! The complimentary bread served with their infused olive oil was outstanding and worth mentioning on its own. For our entrées, my husband and I both ordered specials the Lobster Ravioli and the Halibut. Everything was cooked perfectly and full of flavor. We also enjoyed an excellent red blend wine. By that point, we had enjoyed enough wine that I completely forgot to take photos of the specials! We finished with the cannoli special dessert, which was good, though not quite as memorable as the rest of the meal. Parking: street parking downtown Reservation: they like you to have one but you can get in without Seating: inside and outside area. Outside area is cute Food: the complimentary bread and oil was really good. The appetizer was just ok. The pasta Left a LOT to be wanted. I've had different levels of pasta and this was a solid 4/10. When Fredericksburg Restaurant Week comes around, I never miss a beat to visit Orofino because they have one of my all-time favorite Italian dishes: sacchetti with pear and ricotta. I LIVE for this dish. It's the perfect balance of sweet and savory in a creamy white sauce. I honestly wish they served it year-around. For an appetizer we had the Trio Bruschetta, which was amazing. What I love the most is that you're able to get the best of sweet (ricotta and honey) and savory (pesto) in one appetizer. Service at Orofino is always top-notch. On the night we visited, our server was training a colleague, and it was all super seamless. The ambiance was perfect, though the back room can get a little loud given the acoustics and lack of sound absorbing panels. read more

The pesto gnocchi was one of the better decisions of my day. I added chicken. It was creamy flavor explosion with every bite. Regarding the service, it started off rocky. The critical listening skills were not there. If a manager or team lead had stopped by our table for a greeting, then I would have shared the specifics. Alas, they did not. We carried on with our meal with a mental note of who not to receive as a server in the future. The gnocchi will be worth the return trip. Orofino for the win again! This was my boyfriend's first time here, and Orofino totally delivered (as always!). They've got a new seasonal menu with some pumpkin-inspired dishes and a mouthwatering list of specials. The pumpkin ravioli from the October menu sounded amazing, but the pasta special that night -- pear and ricotta-stuffed pasta in a walnut Gorgonzola cream sauce -- sounded even better. I ended up going with the classic carbonara to play it safe... and while it was good, I totally regretted not going with one of those specials . My boyfriend ordered the pork chop special, and wow -- it stole the show. It came on a bed of roasted potatoes and asparagus, with a drizzle of truffle cream sauce. Every bite was packed with flavor. We were both super impressed. The environment was amazing and even though we had the latest reservation... Leo our server was energetic, attentive, and gave overall great service. We held my daughter's baby shower here yesterday, and I can't say enough about how wonderful it turned out! The Manager (Tim) worked with me through my planning stage and offered helpful suggestions regarding room/table layout, as well as menu selections. The wait staff was a cut above - polite, attentive, efficient and professional. The FOOD was phenomenal (as usual), and we received many complements on our choice of venue. We had the entire back room to ourselves and it was just right for our 28 attendees. It was a hot July day but Orofino staff ensured the AC was set to a level that ensured everyone was kept comfortable. We've been coming here for about 9 years and have loved every visit. Most recently we visited for dinner on a weeknight and it was great once again! Service is excellent, so is their menu. Their execution is spot-on! Prices are great too, so what's not to love?!?! There's a reason the place is always busy and reservations are often hard to come by. On this recent visit we tried a pizza to start, their margherita and it was amazing! Crust was so very good, so was the sauce and toppings. They also have the Pizza DOC certification, which helps to legitimize their pizza, as the Italian gov't says it's being done right. Next up was some pasta dishes... The sauce that the orecchiette had was so very flavorful! I opted for the meatball option to come with it - it was so tender and flavorful too. To finish I enjoyed their blood orange sorbetto and an espresso martini and both were very nice. Highly recommend stopping by to give them a try... We went to Orofino's for a birthday dinner, mostly because the menu's got something for everybody and because we've never had a bad evening there. We had a 7 o'clock reservation and were seated before I had time to get impatient -- which is saying something. The restaurant is clean and bright with enough room to move. Our server greeted us right off with a smile and a basket of little bread bites that could've made a meal all on their own, especially with that seasoned oil they serve for dipping. I ordered the house red -- a Sangiovese -- and it had enough cherry notes to make you think you were sitting under a tree in Tuscany. For dinner, we went with the Veal Chop from the regular lineup and the Rockfish from the specials board. Both were cooked just right -- tender, flavorful, and plated like somebody actually cared. The servings were fair for the price, which in this world of shrinking plates is a small miracle. Service was first-rate, too. Attentive without hovering -- the kind that makes you feel looked after, not looked at. Orofino's is one of those places where you leave full, happy, and already thinking about what you'll order next time. read more

We showed up for lunch after walking out of another nearby restaurant (Port). Glad we did without reservations as the service was wonderful. We know the dishes we like here now. I know to stay away from the caesar amd calamari (not good). We sat at a hightop by the front window which was nice though it was a bit stuffy temp wise. Their meatball app is INCREDIBLE and if you have a choice the tomato cream sauce is incredible on ANYTHING. Bar tender was wonderful. read more

We loved this cozy Italian spot while we were visiting Fredericksburg. Such a good find! There is a cute little alley way with outdoor seating that makes it feel like you are in a little Italian village. The indoor space is just as lovely. Our server, Jack, took great care of us, and explained the menu with new monthly offerings and specials. Everything we ordered was fantastic. My husband loved their homemade balsamic on the salad and I loved their pomodoro sauce. The oil they serve with the bread had a little kick and was so good! We got a piece of their pistachio cake to go - too full to eat it there. It was delicate, light, and the flavors worked well together. I was taken here on a date and there arancini is my favorite thing. I'm obsessed with arancini and there's is definitely the best one I've tried. The service was orettt good although there was an issue with our crème brûlée they really comped it and let us know immediately. Their pizzas are not my favorite. What a hidden gem! We are from Northern VA and anytime we go near downtown Fredericksburg this is our spot. I'm an Italian food snob, growing up with an Italian Grandma, and this place is always spot on. Small menu...more boutique Italian...and they have great seasonal dishes that are packed full of flavor. I got the Pappardelle Al Ragu which was excellent. Noodles were thin and didn't feel heavy. Friend got the lasagna...probably a big enough portion for 2. Last person in party got their lobster ravioli special...white sauce with a honey glaze. It was almost like eating dessert. Outstanding Italian food. Orofino had been recommended to me by several friends and I'm so glad I finally went. I really enjoyed the St. Germain Spritz and the Orecchiette Bari. The sauce was excellent and the spicy sausage really gave it a good kick. Very large portion was a pleasant surprise! The meatballs were good too. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this quaint spot in downtown Fredericksburg. A nice balance of casual dining that allows for a special event celebration as well. The service is friendly, professional and attentive. The food hits perfectly. Traditional Italian cuisine with specials that allow for some exploration. On this visit, we stuck with their lasagna and Carbonara. Both of these never miss. My significant other said the lasagna is the best she has ever had and her Dad is Italian. Don't tell him. Another great experience! We were greeted at our table with our server remembering us which is always fun. Sadly we can't recall her name but she had glasses and fun hair so easy to spot next time so we can have her again. We came this time to try some specials. My husband came in wanting a special of the day he saw the previous week but found out they had sold out and switched to a different item. The amazing server was able to speak to the chef and they made an exception so he could try it. Our dishes were truly delicious. Outdoor spaces, indoor spaces, great wine selection, daily specials, monthly specials, something for everyone. He explained they had a large party, which explains the hostess' initial question. The food was top notch. Our server was great- she was thorough and patient, which I always appreciate. Simply outstanding flavors in both. The combinations on the bruschetta were perfect. For entreés, we had the spaghetti carbonara and vongole. Again, both delicious. Finally for dessert, e had the chocolate mousse and lemon cake. Simply the best way to end the meal. I would come back here in a heartbeat but too bad I live over an hour away. My wife and I visited Orofino for the first time during their Valentine's Day fixed menu event. I was very impressed with the menu and the portions that came with it. The true highlight were the wine pairings. They matched perfectly and really elevated the meal. Overall the experience was fantastic but there were some small things that could have been elevated my experience. Having a fresh wine glass for each wine would have been nice and our crème brûlée was missing the strawberry sauce, but these are minor issues. I'd go back in a heartbeat and recommend anyone check it out for quality Italian food. read more

Food and wine are still authentic but something seems different about the service. Lunch today felt rushed, a bit pressured - and they were almost empty - it's Friday and we wanted to relax and enjoy a leisurely time together over aperitivi, etc. We were not asked about antipasto so we didn't. No one highlighted the April theme of Tuscany. Pasta portions are huge now -husband's penne special would serve a family of four as primi piatti, but no small side salad or vegetable, and we were told we have to "ask for bread with lunch on weekends" which was two teeny ciabatta rolls. My giant ravioli were slightly tougher than al dente. They brought the check while we were still eating dessert (lovely lemon cake and an affogato) before we asked for it. Didn't feel like an Italian meal the way we like and expect there. Maybe next time? read more
