Sorely disappointed. I come often. Today has to be the worse experience here! It wasn't busy inside. I was sat... and sat for 15+ minutes and NOBODY even acknowledged us at the table. We received ZERO service, none. After 15 minutes, I went back to the desk and told them nobody came. We decided to get up and left. I am VERY upset about this. The mozzarella sticks were good. Then the baked lasagna came out, very little seasoning, basically I ate lasagna noodles, ground beef, tomato sauce and mozzarella cheese on top. Need to do better with the seasoning and put some flavor in there. My daughter had Caprese salad, that was good as well. The appetizer and salad are the three stars if just me and the lasagna it would probably be two stars! Maybe visit but don't order lasagna. I'm disappointed with the lack of communication regarding event inquiries at this restaurant. We were looking for a space to host a graduation party and, having held events here in the past, I expected a smoother process. I first filled out the online form for large events but never heard back. I then called and left a message for the person in charge, was told they would call me back, but never received a response. After finding the event coordinator's contact information, I emailed them--again, no reply. This past Saturday, I even went to the restaurant in person. The event coordinator wasn't available, but the manager on duty tried to assist. However, they didn't have the keys to show us the event space. They took down our information and assured us someone would follow up, yet no one ever did. It's frustrating to go through so many steps and still not receive a response. If the restaurant is no longer interested in hosting events, it would be helpful if they communicated that upfront instead of leaving potential customers in limbo. I'm not interested in hosting any future events or eating at the restaurant anyone considering the hoops someone has to jump through to get a call or email back. read more

We've been coming here for several years. Have always loved it. I don't know what's happened but I can honestly say I'm not impressed anymore. Food was ok. Service was less than stellar now. Server rote down our drinks and still got the wrong. Waited for Coke sprite and unsweetened iced tea. Never got refills. Asked a couple times. Just chaotic when it wasn't even busy. First red flag was the major fishy smell I noticed as soon as I got out of my car. I''ve been disappointed here before, someone else picked this place to eat so I gave them another chance. My expectations were very low and they somehow have managed to get worse. We ordered a few apps to try. The fried calamari was disgustingly fishy and I could not eat it. If I get food poisoning it is definitely from this. The cheesesteak fries were passable, nothing special. All the food was like barely salted slop. The chicken parm really didn't have any flavor other than canned tomato sauce. At least the chicken was cooked, but soggy. The spaghetti was bland slop texture. The bread was like play dough. No crunch, flavor, or texture. It came with a salad that the waiter said was free if I wanted the salad. The dressing was again tasteless and I didn't even bother to finish it. I'm a little concerned that this staple is going to go out of business very soon if they don't adjust quickly. We have so many amazing options downtown to choose from and Castiglia's has now been placed last on my list and I'm sure it's last on many others. We decided to stop by for Mothers Day brunch... and one of the main reasons is because I knew everywhere else was going to have a very long wait and/or the waitlist wasn't even available until dinner time. We were seated immediately for a party of 5 which is what I was hoping. The temperature of the restaurant was a little hot and we started to sweat while waiting for the server to come to the table. While we waited for the rest of our party my mother and I decided to place an appetizer order. We ordered mozzarella sticks and fried calamari. I was immediately disappointed because the mozzarella sticks have changed. They were the frozen ones that have absolutely no seasoning in the batter. The last time I was at castiglias in January they were serving these amazing jumbo mozzarella sticks that were fresh and delicious. Why would you take those off and replace those with the grosser of the frozen ones? Don't get me wrong, I can enjoy frozen mozzarella sticks but these were the ones you would order from a cheap bar or pizza joint with no expectation of quality. The fried calamari tasted extremely fishy and that's not normal. Overly salted and like they were going bad. I ate one and could not go back for another bite. Now our meal. We ordered steak and cheese, spaghetti, lobster ravioli, and a strawberry salad. I did put in a to go order for a slice of cheese pizza and a belly buster Stromboli for my husband and son at home. My brother in law enjoyed his steak and cheese. My mom really enjoyed her strawberry salad and loved the raspberry vinaigrette it came with but did mention that the chicken was a little spicy. I thought the lobster ravioli was okay, definitely not the best I've had but they were large and filling. The pink sauce it's served with does taste a little like campbells tomato soup though. My grandma used to make a poor man's pink sauce (her words, not mine) that included campbells tomato soup and heavy cream. It tasted identical to that. Now the spaghetti... I should have pre warned my sister because the marinara that served with the mozzarella sticks had no flavor and was the consistency of water, so naturally I expected it to be along the same lines as that. And it was. There was no flavor! She ended up just eating one of my lobster raviolis and boxing the rest. We had to take the spaghetti home and add our own Italian seasoning and garlic to elevate it to something you would want to eat. My husband did however enjoy his belly buster Stromboli. Moving forward I will just stick to ordering pizza if we do go back. I do want to comment that our table was right next to the pick up window. I watched food sit there way too long and feel bad for whoever ordered spinach and artichoke dip that sat in that window for about 20 minutes. I witnessed so many servers, the floor manager, and the hostess just walk past it so many times. I used to work in the restaurant industry. The decor needs help as the place feels really old and run down and unfinished... But they do have roof top seating and a bar area that might be nicer. We were greeted and seated immediately and the hostess and our server were both friendly. The food was mostly good. The pizza was fantastic, one of my friends got the NY slice and it was huge and they said very good but the crust was a little overdone. My other friend and I split a small four cheese pizza which was fantastic! Another friend got the Florentine calzone which was huge and stuffed and they said was very good. I got the pasta with vodka sauce and mushrooms and I have to say it was the worst I've ever had. They added bacon to it which made the whole thing taste really smoky and almost burnt and you couldn't even taste the vodka sauce, you could even tell before you tasted it as the sauce had this really dark color that was very unappetizing. The whole table split an order of arancini which were ok but a bit overcooked and there was meat inside which was unexpected as I don't remember the menu mentioning that. But aside from the vodka pasta everything else was good. I would go back to try other dishes or maybe just get pizza because it was really some of the best I've had. read more

Tried Castiglia's in Fredericksburg for the first time last night and it was...okay. The restaurant was nearly empty when we went on a Saturday night at 5:30. That was a little odd, but there was a street fair a couple blocks away that was pizza-focused that had a huge crowd, so it's possible that was cutting into their business. We started with the appetizer sampler plate. It was okay if you like fried food, but I think that everything on the platter was out of a freezer and purchased from a food service. None of it seemed to have been actually made at the restaurant. Salads were decent. I liked that they included a salad with the pasta dishes. Not all restaurants do that. Entrees were okay (see photos). Nothing to write home about, but not bad. Just okay. Portions were good-sized. We both brought leftovers home. Our young server was very polite and trying hard. However, there seems to a training issue that I've seen on occasion with other young servers. When you're a server that has never been a paying restaurant patron, some training is necessary. And the trademark of lack of training for a young server is when they keep piling the courses on the table before you are done with the prior courses. It's actually kind of comical because they are very proud of themselves for bringing everything so fast, but they don't realize that it's really disruptive for the diners having more plates with food dumped onto the table when you're not finished with what you already have. One draft beer, one appetizer sampler platter, two entrees which included salads: $57.87 including all taxes but not included gratuity. I think that includes a break of a couple of bucks for happy hour. Ultimately, it's possible that we set ourselves up for less-than-success by not getting pizza, which seems to be their specialty. read more

Went up to the rooftop bar yesterday for a late lunch. Met quickly and seated. Waitress got our drinks and took our order without any delay. Food came out quickly and was well prepared. The Belly Buster Stromboli is not for the faint of heart who would shy away from a go box. The kids pizza is one slice thin crust and the club salad is built right. Nice spot overlooking Williams Street and down town Fred. Great place to watch the people. read more

I'm thinking the elite folks need to get out a little more. We have been eating here for years and it's been quite disappointing recently. Below is our most recent visit. We were sat at 5:05, party of 5. It was nearing the end of cocktail hour though we wanted some beverages with our meals. Our order was finally taken at 5:25. No one thought to tell the waitress we arrived. Our drinks came out to us around 5:30. We ordered the bruschetta to come as an appetizer, but didn't get that until 6:15, after our salads. Dinner came at 6:40, eaten by about 7:00, and we just wanted to leave. The gnocchi order was brought out last and was done incorrectly, so by the time our friend got her meal, everyone else was done eating. The manager did note that our bruschetta should have been out quicker, and the messed up dish along with were comped, otherwise I would have completely written off my longstanding favorite Italian joint. The portions were to be desired ordering from the pasta or seafood menus, but the pizza, sandwiches, and calzones are where it's at. Something has changed at Castiglia's (ownership, I think) and it shows. Hubs and I ate there last Saturday. First they have chopped up the main dining room and made the upstairs only accessible through the bar. Many people came into the restaurant for roof top sitting and were sent to the other side. We loved the calamari before. It was a good sized appetizer and always prepared properly. This time the portion was cut at least in half and it was overcooked leaving chewy calamari and over cooked breading. To try to hide the smallness of the portion, there was about a quarter of a head of lettuce cut into big chunks with the calamari on top. And it was served in a wire basket that was too deep and made it hard to share. It was disappointing. We also shared a Stromboli which is still good. At least they didn't damage that, yet. The side plates they gave us for our food share were very small. I mean too small. I'm not sure that we will return. It wasn't the greatest food but was okay and convenient. Now... not as much. We for sure will not order any appetizer again. It makes me sad. read more

This restaurant is on a corner lot in downtown Fredericksburg and has three options for seating. Interior, exterior and roof top (available on Fridays-Sundays). There are street parking with first come first serve basis. We ordered four items: 1) Bruschetta 2) Salmon salad 3) The Works pizza 4) Burrata and prosciutto pizza. When the bruschetta arrive to the table, it was pretty display but as you picked it up to take a bite, most of the toppings falls right off. It is recommended to either use a knife and make smaller pieces or scrape some toppings off then pick it up to take a bite. The flavors of the fresh basil, balsamic, tomatoes combination were very refreshing and delicious. The salmon salad was tasty too. It was served with a salad, topped with pan-seared salmon and a balsamic vinaigrette. The two pizzas 1) the Works - pepperoni, ham, ground beef, onions, green peppers, mushrooms and black olives. 2) Burrata and prosciutto pizza- arugula, burrata, prosciutto, tomatoes and balsamic glaze. They were both delicious but the burrata that was place in the middle of the pizza, wasn't creamy enough to spread on the entire pizza. A lovely early evening stop! We enjoyed an awesome peach mule...delicious, followed by steak subs served on the lightest and tastiest sub rolls! Food flavor was great! Our server was nice and friendly. The pizzas being served looked yummy but the pizza serving area we were seated in front of could use some loving cleaning...the dust on the countertop was a bit much. Our daughter was visiting us, and we were looking for a fun place for dinner. We decided to try Castiglia's Italian Restaurant in downtown Fredericksburg. Castiglia's is located at William and Charles streets. After finding on-street parking, we found the restaurant. They have a wonderful dining room, but it was a nice evening so we decided to eat upstairs at the SkyBar. There was a short wait, but once we got there it was great. A second story view of the city was a nice thing to enjoy as we had a great dinner. We three started with Beers from the upstairs bar. It is a great place to drink and talk, while looking at the city. For Entrees, my wife and daughter had two different kinds of Gnocci. I tried them both and the flavor was amazing. Both women loved their dinners. I had the Salmon. I have salmon nearly everywhere, and this was very good. It was a bit overly salty, but very good nevertheless. Our server was fine, never left us waiting. We would definitely go back again, for the food or just to drink outside. read more

Had to go to Castiglia's today for an office lunch. Not my choice but had to participate. The best part was sitting at the Sky Bar, the weather was gloomy so it wasn't hot. Our server was attentive and took care of us in a timely manner. For the food, I remained light today because I haven't been enjoying the food lately. We used to love Castiglia's. This time we spent $84 (with tip) for 2 12" pizzas and 2 beers. The wood fired pizzas were undercooked and soggy in the center. Our friend's veal parm was overcooked. No service, no food/drink..... We have eaten at the Sky Bar numerous times but the last time was in 2021. What a wreck tonight!! It was a Monday evening with the Sky Bar being 1/3 full. It took almost 10 minutes for a server to finally arrive at the table. We order drinks only but planned to have our dinner there. After another 15 minutes and still no drinks, the server finally stopped by to tell us that there was only 1 bar tender and only 2 servers. Our other 2 guests arrived and still no drinks. We left and they did not even seem to care!! Good news is that we walked a block to Harry's, sat outside and had drinks and appetizer in 5 minutes. Food was great at Harry's and will return again!! Went in last Sunday afternoon for a drink since the weather was so nice. Tried the rooftop bar. It took 20 minutes to get two glasses of wine. Server was friendly, but when she brought the wine, both glasses were dirty and had fingerprints all over them. A couple that sat adjacent to us waited a long time for their drinks and got served an appetizer before their drinks ever showed. They asked for a bloody Mary and it took 20 minutes for the waitress to come back over and tell them they couldn't make it because their mix was frozen. Absolutely no customer service no sense of urgency to wait on people. They lost four customers that day. We will never go back read more

The rooftop is very nice but the inside of the restaurant isn't very clean or pleasant to sit in.

I gave it a one star because there is no other option. This used to be one of my favorite spots, where I would get a specific meal that was my favorite, and it has gone downhill very fast. I last came back about 3 weeks ago and was very disappointed with mostly everything, but my favorite dish was still good so that gave it a bit of saving grace. My wife and I decided to give it one last try, because we really used to like this place, and this time our experience was worse. Restaurant looked beat down and dirty, not to mention mostly empty. The servers didn't seem to be too interested in working and helping the customers. And unfortunately, this time the one saving grace, the Penne a la Vodka with Chicken was awful. So the one thing that was keeping this place on my list was finally destroyed. Not sure what has happened to Castiglia's, but I don't see them staying in business much longer if they don't change drastically. I for one am done with them. I refuse to spend anymore good money for underwhelming service, bad food, in a nasty and dirty looking/feeling restaurant. Too many better places to go to do this again. I've been eating at Castiglia's since the only location was out on Courthouse Rd. My wife and I used to go every Thursday for the salmon salad and a brick oven pizza. Their brick oven has been down for a long while now and I'm not really sure what's happened to the rest of the restaurant. On national pizza day, my son and I went for some pizza and were told 20 minutes on the wait. We got our food 2 hours later! We watched the waiter give our order to the table next to us. Last night we had guests in town and ordered what we were told would take 15-20 minutes. We arrived and waited 30 additional minutes and were handed the most god awful pizzas I've ever eaten. We both had a hankering for pizza and dropped in after 1:30. At one point, we were the only table. Caroline was lovely, yet when I saw our food came up, and the kitchen rang the bell twice and yelled "LADIES", I grabbed our food. Also minus the side salad I asked for. The manager was lovely. Handled everything like a champ! Caroline managed to avoid us for the rest of our visit (a refill would have been appreciated). The manager was quick to apologize again, and included a tiramisu. I was kind of annoyed from the beginning when they sat me and my two others friends at a small high top table. They had to bring over a smaller side table for us to be able to put our food on. We ordered the loaded chicken nachos which were good. We also ordered the fig and prosciutto pizza and the regular prosciutto pizza. Both of which were horrible. The fig was wayyy to over powering and was almost like you were eating dessert. The garlic on the prosciutto and burrata pizza was way too much. If you like a lot of garlic then go for it. Arrived Saturday at 5. Plenty of empty tables on the roof but took 30 min to seat us. Was told they were short staffed. Took an additional 20 minute to see a waiter. After ordering food took an additional 35 minutes to receive. One order was a cheese steak with fries on the side. That one took an additional 15 min and they brought fries with cheese steak on top. That was refused and they took them back to reorder. A additional 20 min passed and no cheese steak. We cancelled that with the waitress as everyone else had finished eating. Visiting from California had a double date with in-laws there! We had to start the Mexican Mule, Peach mule and Pomegranate mule for drinks. For appetizers we had the Calamari and Scallops. The scallops were delicious and my favorite. For the maid dishes we had the Chicken Parmigiana and Beef Lasagna. Highly recommend. We have been regular customers of Castiglias for several years. As an Italian New Yorker, I have rarely found any pizza as good as what I was used to in New York. However, we've been mostly happy with Castiglias. Last week, my husband ordered our usual take out: One Stromboli and one Calzone along with our Pepperoni Pizza order. The pizza was okay. But, I do wonder if it had a pre made crust with it. The real issue was the Stromboli and the Calzone- both were overdone. But, the Stromboli, pictured here is nearly totally burnt and tasted terrible! This should never have left their kitchen. Bottom line, if you're getting take out-- open the box and make sure you've not gone something like this. Overall, I would give Castiglias 4 Stars, but this last order of some $52 brought my rating down to one. read more

We had pizza and drinks on the rooftop. The pizza was TERRIBLE! It was soggy in the middle, sparse on cheese, and all the toppings I had (vegetables) were all undercooked and hard. And they were all placed directly in the center of the pizza and not spread around. The hosts/hostesses on the rooftop were inattentive. The drinks were okay. Not terrible, not great, better than dominoes pizza for sure though. But a major complaint as this place is infested with spiders. I went here for my last stop with a group of friends on First Friday around 9:30PM. We decided to try and find seating on the rooftop. We got lucky and found a table despite it being absolutely packed. There were so many people that there was a line to wait to get onto the rooftop. There was plenty of seating downstairs but the party was on the rooftop due to the First Friday event. We were quickly tended to by our server and put in drink and appetizer orders. We had the Bruschetta for the table. The Bruschetta was average but quickly became soggy so most of us didn't eat it. For my entree I ordered the Original Calzone. Once again like the Bruschetta it was average. The calzone was stuffed with mozzarella, ricotta, and ham. The sauce was lackluster. Our server was friendly but not very attentive. Good pizza dough was a bit chewy but would still prefer it over some pizza hut or dominos. The salmon was nice and salty with butter all over it and the veggies, not for everyone but if that sounds good to you. Server was a tad slow getting the bill and bringing back the card but other than that they were kind and attentive asking if we needed anything during our dinner. It was comfy when I first sat down but after a few bites into my food I noticed the oven had heated up the whole entire place. The noise from the kitchen, music and other people chatting wasn't overwhelming. Great place for odd days of the week but can't recommend if it's busy.
