Went here for dinner last night and my friend had a huge shard of plastic in his food. Never again.

This place is very hip and is definitely in a trendy area. With that, be warned that parking by is going to suuuuuuck. I've been to both the other restaurants in this center, and same same is my least favorite. The food wasn't terrible or anything. The chicken satay was good, the garlic beef we got was good, the fried rice with Thai sausage wasn't at all worth $11 so I'd skip that for sure. The service was pretty awful. They had 5 people working front of house and 4 tables and it took us forever to order and forever to get the check. Something wasn't right with the waitstaffing. Like they split up tables weird or something. I don't know. We went here because Myanmar was closed, but probably won't be back. read more

It is a small but classy place here in LA. Definitely a hip place for the people here in silverlake. I love the overall design and feel of the place. The quality of good is good. But their servings are small. Parking is a bit of a problem so make sure you are prepared for that. We went on a hot night of summer. Their air conditioning seem to need a lot of work since it only cools a bit from being hot to just warm instead of cool. read more

Same Same Thai - Fried chicken and curry - Wine Bars Near Me - Los Angeles, California

When you go to the suburbs, you find those thai spots that cater exclusively to the Joe suburban take the two kids to soccer practice family. Same Same is the same thing, but for that Jacob millennial take your two dogs to the movie in the park family. This is by no means a critique of the place, only an observation. Same Same has your standard Thai Fare of appetizers, (spring rolls, satays), noodles (Pad See Ew, Pad Thai), and curries (green, red). Most dishes if applicable will allow you to choose your protein, e.i. pork, chicken, beef, or tofu. Each dish ranges in price from about $8 -15. Food is good, no complaints. Order to go, sit at one of two bars, or sit at a table. If you sit at the bar, you'll probably get served faster as the bar tenders are pretty attentive. The bar stocks a good amount of asian and craft beers and wines. I would note that parking can be a particular type of terrible when the small plaza is busy. I would recommend stopping in when it is not as crowded. read more

Came here not expecting too much, but I was pleasantly surprised!! After vacationing in Thailand earlier this year, I'd have to say that eating here give me the feels. However, don't expect to find authentic Thai cuisine because c'mon the saying says it all. They're same same, but different! Think thai cuisine w/ a modern spin, but still delicious! We came here after our engagement shoot not knowing it was restaurant week, so as much as our hearts told us to go for it, we opted out. My dress would have shut it down real quick. So instead of getting double portions, we went ala carte and got the thai beef jerky, crispy rice pork salad, pad kee mao, and mango sticky rice. All in all, everything was great and some of the dishes definitely had a nice kick to them (don't worry for all you fans of extra spice, they have additional level and chili condiments to add some add'l heat)! I'd have to say that out of everything we ordered, the crispy rice pork salad was my fav! As for the mango sticky rice, those mangos were heavenly (super sweet & not stringy). My only side comment was the rice was a little too temperature hot for my liking. Will we go back? Definitely. Same same has great food, good vibes, and a super friendly staff. My kind of restaurant especially since the combo is sometimes hard to come by, especially in LA ;) read more

This is the best side kick Pad Thai I've ever had. The portion is really small but enough for a person. U can taste simply delicious tamarind sauce with pretty spices. Environment is cozy and dim. Chilling with your friends or VIPs would be perfect in here. read more

Best Thai food I've had in LA. Pad Thai, Pad Kee Mao, and Pad See Ew are all lovely. I also recommend the chicken wings and Thai beef jerky. They have a great happy hour as well and lots of wine and beet to pair with your meal. read more

Came here for dine LA. The food was good. I really enjoyed the seasoning on the chicken wings. The laab and salad were both pretty spicy but good. Dont forget to get a thai iced tea read more

This place has the worst customer service I have ever experienced!!! The person packing the orders is the worst, screamed at a customer for no reason and closed the door in his face twice. read more

My mother and I ended up at Same Same after not being able to find parking in Silver Lake for Night Market Song. I was trying to get to Rambutan Thai but Same Same had taken over the space. I understand the cruel fact of gentrification. Businesses never last long in LA anymore. But it's a little unnerving to sit in a restaurant that looks almost exactly like it's previous incarnation under a different name. That isn't why this is a two star review. Same Same's atmosphere was lovely. Small tables. Dimly lit with candles. Attentive hostess. Almost everyone in there seemed to be on a date. Same Same looked made for dates. Dates where you are not very hungry. The attentiveness of the waiter was the first problem I had with Same Same. I have never in my life had someone explain to me how to read a menu and how a menu works. Yes, menus have categories. Yes, each dish is something you can order. I have eaten out in my life. I did not emerge from the forest recently with no concept of restaurants or menus. The waiter's lengthly spiel was unnecessary and annoying. I understand explaining the specials and the spicy ratings is necessary and helpful. But as an introvert trying to have dinner with my mother during a stressful move I just wanted the waiter to shut up and go away. We ordered the beef panang curry, sticky rice and something involving crispy chicken and cabbage that began with a K. Both were quite delicious. Fresh, impressively high grade meat. Wonderfully spicy red and green peppers in the curry. The sticky rice was pretty good. It came in a fun wicker container and rather confusing plastic wrap. My other complaint is that the portions were so tiny. I am used to my curries coming in a full bowl of rich coconut curry sauce to be poured into the rice. This panang curry had only a small puddle of sauce that didn't even seem to have coconut milk in it.The crispy chicken with a K thing was super-delicious, I just wish there was more of it. There is a parking lot which blessed be had a space right outside. read more

Came in last night with some friends and were welcomed with lovely and attentive staff - while it was dark and loud AF, we sat down to nosh on it all. $5 Singha = win, though we ended up drinking all of it (sounds cooler than it was - we, realistically, had 8 between the 6 of us) and had to switch over to $9 Chang's (not totally a shame - they were the larger bottles). Ordered up some food: - Fresh Spring Rolls - they were fine - they're cut (ish), so a bit messy if you're trying to grab a piece from across the table - mine fell to pieces - Papaya Salad - nice and spicy, a bit confused on the huge slab of cabbage (I am no doubt very shy when not sure if I'm eating things correctly) - but the papaya itself was sliced thin and medium spicy - Sticky rice - good and indeed sticky, not too much though, but order lots if you're a heavy rice eater - Steak Salad - steak was well cooked, pretty average tomato and cucumber set up - Green curry - spicy and delicious, this I would certainly come back for - Pad Thai - with chicken, had to, smaller size would recommend sharing between two All in all, I thought it was fine - people seem really upset that this place replaced Rambutan but from my understanding the chefs are still in place (and they do take out Rambutan, according to the website). We weren't super daring in our selections - would probably come back to try other things. The food was good but I would warn that the ambiance was very VERY dark and quite loud; I had a somewhat hard time seeing the food I was even eating, so will probably take out. Food is good but it's so loud and dark. Or maybe I'm just getting old. I was that person with my iphone flashlight on, completely ruining the hip ass vibes there! read more

Incredibly rude staff, was doing deliveries, and they slammed the door on my face while I was still speaking. Not to mention, it took them 15 minutes to give me the food that was ordered an hour ago.... horrible experience. read more

A solid plan b for when the line at Night Market is a bit too long to bare. Food could stand to be a little hotter in both temp and spice. Go on a Wednesday and get a bottle half price. And trust the staff picks, the curry noodles are delicious. Everything else we had (Tom Kah, Thai Dim Sum) weren't bad per se, but didn't leave me wanting more. The bar and ambiance has great vibes and everyone is super nice. Just wish the food had a little more read more

I really enjoyed this cute little place! My friend and I had no wait when we got there at 7:30 but it was a weeknight. We sat at the bar and the service was great. I ordered the Mu Yang pork and a beer and my friend ordered the Green Curry and a wine. The green curry was delicious but very spicy. My friend has a low tolerance for spice and he could eat it. I tried it though and loved it. My Mu Yang was delicious and I even asked for it to be extra spicy. The portions were great and I took some home for the next day. The ambiance is great. On the loud side but not terribly so. We did not have any trouble hearing each other. I really enjoyed this place and will definitely be back! read more

Food was mediocre at best, especially considering it's located in a neighborhood with such an abundance of great Thai food. I don't even remember what we ate because it was more or less forgettable. Service seemed very mixed up and confused. The hostess sat us at the bar while we waited for a table while there were plenty of open tables, then when we were seated at a table (which had been open and available the entire time) the bartender came over and told us we would have to move to make space for other customers. As we were getting up, our hostess THEN came by and told us that this was in fact our table so we sat. Then our drink orders were split between the bartender and our server for some reason so we ended up with more drinks than we had ordered (which they billed us for). The confusion was very odd and made for a very disorienting and distracting dining experience. read more

Came here for dine LA. It was a pretty good deal considering the quantity of food. After just coming back from Thailand I have to say the taste was pretty authentic. I really enjoyed the chicken wings. Everything else was pretty spicy so he prepared for that but the flavor really popped and were great read more

Great food, horrible service. I love the food, but the service is horrendous. I've experienced on multiple occasions attitude from employees...most recently I placed an order for delivery. The delivery time said 30-45 minutes, over an hour later there was no food in sight. I called to see what was going on regarding my order, the woman who answered gave me serious attitude. She barked at me that they were slammed and all their orders were behind. I completely get that a restaurant can get busy and bombarded, what I don't get is giving a customer attitude when they're just trying to understand what's happening. I didn't receive my food until another hour later and of course, it was cold and soggy. I won't be returning purely based on the lack of hospitality and rudeness I've experienced. read more

I made the mistake of ordering here once. These guys have terrible customer service, and terrible food. Spicy prawn fried rice? What a joke. I literally called in because I received 15$ cold shrimp fried rice and they had the audacity to claim prawn and shrimp were the same thing. If you are using shrimp, label your protein as shrimp and not something that sounds fancier just because they are similar. Deceptive, slimy business. I hope anyone that is looking to order from here reads this first. Who knows what else they are hiding? Everything I ordered was absolute garbage, from the drunken noodles to the not-crispy chicken. What a waste of money, this place needs to go. read more

This place is very pretty. I ordered for pick up and got the green curry. I personally like my curry to be thicker and more creamy but this one was pretty watery. The flavor was fine but the chicken was pink and looked not fully cooked which was unappetizing. Not a awful spot but there's room for improvement read more

SPICY!! But delicious. I heard the people at the table next to me complaining about the spice level, and saying "they should have warned us!" It's literally written all over the menu, but the server did bring them shots of Thai iced tea to help cool down their mouths, which I thought was nice. The food came super quick. They also have happy hour, so the drinks were very inexpensive! The bar is cozy, and the table seating is pretty standard (a bit over crowded). Overall they've very good, and I'll be back. read more

Eh I'm not really impressed with this place, which sucks because I was looking forward to trying it out. A thai wine bar? Sounds awesome! So went during DineLA restaurant week. The normal wine menu is honestly not very extensive and not impressive, especially if they call themselves a wine bar. One order of egg rolls came completely cold- meaning the frozen egg rolls they reheated weren't heated all the way through and that makes me worry for food safety concerns. The entrees I shared with who I was with, and both had the same flavoring, I guess they used the same spices in both dishes even though one was a panang curry of sorts and the other was a chicken soup/stew with noodles. And just a warning, their spicy is REALLY spicy. Seeing from other reviews it seems that is the norm here. Usually in my experience when food is too spicy like that, they're compensating for a lack of flavor. I wasn't a fan of the desserts, but that may be just a personal taste. Service was really great, quick, and nice. Food wasn't anything I would come back for. The parking lot is very convenient. Then end. read more

My friends and I went to try out this new spot. It was easy to find with plenty of parking on a Saturday night. The food was very delicious. We had the chicken satay, dim sum and laab as appetizers. The Laab was definitely on the spicey end so beware! We then shared several main courses to share amongst the group. Throw a dart at the menu and you have a 50% chance of getting something we ate. It was all very very good. The ambience is fun, hip, and different than the normal Thai restaurant you might walk into. It's well decorated and the servers are very friendly. read more

Excellent papaya salad. Even better pad see ew. But I'd stay away from the crispy rice and bbq chicken. Cool vibe and worth another shot to try other delicious noodle items read more

Same Same Thai - Wine Bars Near Me - Los Angeles, California

We've ordered from Same Same many times. Mostly through Postmates. Every single time we order the same dishes.Thai sausage fried rice and Beef Jerky fried rice. Each time the sausage pieces in the rice keeps getting lower and lower. Today I literally had 4 pieces of meat and big bowl of plain rice. These are not chunks they are slivered sausage pieces. This is hands down the best thai food I've ever had. I am not from around the area but will be driving just to eat here again. I wished it was closer to our home. You won't be disappointed, enjoy! read more

I am sad to write this review as the food is relatively good, but this is the second time I have had issues with their takeout system. This second time they could not find my order and I would have to wait 20 minutes to order the food at the restaurant. What is the point of ordering ahead at that point. The response from the waitress was 'yeah, grub hub is awful' I was curious why you would use that system if that were the case. Sticky rice down the street has better customer service anyway. read more

This is one of the best Thai restaurants I've ever been to. Super cute ambiance with umbrella lamps and a really good looking bar. Super cute date night spot - much quieter than most thai restaurants I've been to. Our server was really sweet and made solid recommendations, as we were having a hard time deciding. We ordered half of the menu and have no regrets. I liked this place because they had an awesome mix of Thai classics (curries and pad thai) with some dishes I've never heard of or tried before. Tom Kha soup - among the best I've ever had. Really light (as opposed to heavy coconut cream) with perfect balance of lemongrass and lime. Flavors were really clean and crisp. Perfect for cold days. Apple salad - we opted for the apple salad over papaya salad because the server said the papaya salad was the spiciest thing on the menu - but they had similar flavor profiles. Amazing! Tart, sweet, with a little bit of a kick. It was perfect. Charbroiled Squid - the dipping sauce was SO good. Has a little bit of a spice on the back of the tongue but I wouldn't consider it to spicy. Curry Noodles - this was something I'd never had before and combines two of my favorite thai dishes. Thin, Pad thai-like noodles, soaked in a red curry broth. Comes with a drumstick in the middle, which is hard to share, but delicious. Chicken Katieb - no idea what Katieb is but this was bomb. Came in a tangy liquid with marinated cabbage pieces and other delicious things. Mussels Pancake - honestly, I don't know how to describe this. I just advise your order it. It's like a crispy noodle pancake, that comes in a cast iron skillet, with fried mussels and bean sprouts on top. Totally unique and really good. Most dishes in the menu ranged from $7-$13. They have $5 Tsing Ha beer and some great Thai Iced Tea. This place is such a gem and I am SO happy I know about it now. read more

A total favorite restaurant in LA with tasty, fresh dishes and they seem to be doing a stellar job of safety during COVID. Wow- the food here is killer and frankly addictive. It's such a cool, hip spot with great drinks and wonderful service. Well made food, great ambiance and attentive service. I really loved my visit to Same Same last night. The music wasn't too loud, the lighting was low and the food was well executed. Definitely need to go back for more. read more

So my friends and I decided to come here for Restaurant week. It had a 4 course menu plus you choice of wine, beer, Thai iced tea or Thai iced coffee for $29. I got the Thai iced coffee, which was pretty standard. It was very refreshing. So I got the vegetable spring rolls, papaya salad, pad see yiu with chicken and the mango ice cream with sticky rice. The spring rolls were a little better than your average spring rolls. They were almost the size of a full egg roll and packed with seasoned vegetables. They were served with sweet and sour sauce which was your average sauce, nothing too special. The papaya salad was really tasty! The papaya was crisp, the tomato were juicy and flavorful, and there was the perfect blend of sugar, fish sauce and lime juice. And it had the perfect spiciness to it. It wasn't just a tiny bit spicy and it wasn't over the top spicy. The pad see yiu was good. Perfectly cooked wide noodles with broccoli rabe that wasn't overcooked with chunks of seasoned chicken and eggs. The sauce could've been a bit less salty, but the dish was pretty good overall. Finally, the dessert. I was expecting a bowl of coconut sticky rice with a scoop of mango ice cream on top. But instead of the mango ice cream, it came with a mango mochi! That was good. The ice cream inside the mochi had a slight mango flavor. I wish hadwas more. And the rice wasn't too great. It was a little hard and didn't have that much of a coconut flavor. It could've been microwaved and then they added the mochi on top. So in all in all, it was a pretty good meal. The ambiance was nice. Dim lighting to the point of it being almost dark. They're were Oriental umbrellas on the ceilings and Asian trinkets placed on little shelves. I would go there again to try their regular menu if I ever was in the area. read more
