They have a knack for combining each simple, fresh ingredient with the other to create the perfect union of flavors. The soda fountain is just more of that goodness in liquid form. This place is great! I had their mini chicken pot pie ($6) which was the perfect escape from the windy day. The tangy taste of the salad cuts any buttery feeling from the pot pie. Although the pot pie doesn't feel too heavy because it's the perfect miniature size. It was filling for a small girl, but not too sure how others would feel. They also have hot coffee from Ipsento, so needless to say, it's a good cup of coffee. Their chocolate chocolate chip cookie is the soft kind, if you like soft cookies this is a goody. I like chewy cookies so it wasn't the kind I liked, but still tasty. Last time, I got their open faced egg sandwich with bacon and a cup of tomato soup. If you like bacon and eggs and sandwiches like most folks, this is a great choice. Service is great, really kind. They are very willing to explain anything on the menu for you. They have a great specials menu also. The place just feels very chill and the everything is delicious, so I'm going to go back to reading and drinking my coffee now. read more

Stopped in here for Sunday brunch because the wait at Longman & Eagle was 1.5 hours. It's a little cramped, but the food was truly excellent. Had a grilled cheese w/ bacon and a side of spicy potatoes, along with a house-made ginger soda. The giardiniera cream on the potatoes was really unique and delicious, and the sandwich perfectly executed with, as other reviews have mentioned, a slight hint of tangy mustard. Great thick bacon as well. Very reasonable portions. One downside if you like an alcoholic beverage with your weekend brunches is that this restaurant is not licensed. No Bloody Mary or Mimosa to be found here. You can always hit up one of the nearby bars for an after-meal drink, though. I'd highly recommend stopping by here, especially if the wait at nearby brunch spots is a little long for your liking. read more

Had the avocado toast and vegan cauliflower soup and everything was great! First time here. And would definitely come back again. Easy location to find right off the street and the atmosphere was great. Learned there is a tip jar instead of leaving it on the table and take the bill to the register. I just ordered from here for the first time and it was delightful! The grilled cheese (added arugula!) on homemade bread was to die for and I was soooo happy they had chilled roasted beets on their very streamlined menu - this combo was the absolute perfect lunch. He had the BLT and the Greek potato wedges so good it elicited a perfectly pithy "DAMN!" The sandwiches came with tasty slaw and and pickle chips and were super satisfying. Ordering from their website was as easy and convenient as possible. Neither the gentleman I spoke with (I had a credit card snafu that had nothing to do with them) on the phone nor the one who delivered my food could have possibly been any nicer. All the food we had delicious. Breakfast Pizza (on special) and the Curry Chicken Sandwich. The crust on the pizza was crisp and soft on the inside and the caramelized onions, egg and bacon with arugula really made the pizza incredible. The Curry Chicken Salad was refreshing and the bread was perfect. We also tried one of the sodas, The Flipside, which was delicious. The service was great, very friendly and prompt. The only thing that was uncomfortable was that I don't know if they a/c was broken or just on low but it was warm inside and there wasn't much air circulation even though they had a fan blowing. Will definitely be returning and looking forward to exploring new more of the menu. read more

Simple foods, very well executed. Highly recommend the sodas. The vinyl selection is wonderful. Sometimes I'll order to go, but drink a soda while I wait because I know something great will be playing. BYOB is good w/ Logan Liquors close by, but it's not really drink-y food. Full disclosure: vegetarian. The potatoes, avocado toast (jicama is the secret ingredient), and biscuits are great. I found the kale burger to be a tad dry. I have a tough time venturing out on the menu because I love those sides/the fried egg toast so much. If I have one complaint, it's that these are all foods I like to make for myself and my family, just better executed. So it's not exotic, but it sure is fresh and better prepared than I could make it myself. The portion sizes are small-to-reasonable, which I like. You leave full or have room for dessert. In terms of ambiance, there's a definite brunch rush, and other times (mid-afternoon, for instance), you'll see families in there. The space is a bit weird for a Logan Square restaurant in that it feels more vibrant in the daytime than at night (due to the natural/artificial lighting, and crowd). Go at 8 on a Friday before a movie or going out, and you'll have a really quiet and peaceful oasis (kind of a reverse-Longman, and hopefully they enjoy some spillover traffic). read more

K so i just made a grilled cheese sandwich, inspired by the one I ordered at Same Day yesterday, and its SO horrible but im eating it anyway because im hungry. How can I not make a grilled cheese sandwich? I used fancy organic bread with kerrygold cheese! I cannot make a grilled cheese sandwich but let me tell you Same Day makes the EPITOME of grilled cheese sandwiches!!! I ordered the ham and grilled cheese with gruyere and dill mustard. I added an egg which was 1.50 extra because its my first time and why not go all in? The decor is simple and gorgeous and the name "Same Day" was too witty to pass up! IT WAS SO GOOOD and SO messy and burnt to perfection. There was two sides that came with it. sweet pickles and cole slaw. The pickles were amazing. I dont like slaw but I ate most of what was in the ramekin. I wish I had the option of house made potato chips or a side salad instead. Maybe i'm just nostalgic for my former favorite bougie sandwich place that also liked to pickle things, Birchwood Kitchen, but I do miss them. I strongly appreciate that they make (just about?) everything in house and source locally. It makes sense for the higher price. You can really taste the love. I'll be coming back. Best thing about Same Day is the Rosemary bread. Putting cheese or curried chicken salad in the middle of it would naturally taste good if there was a solid base. And to its credit, the iterations here do. They're also sorta expensive at $8 for just a grilled cheese, with some small pickles and cole slaw for a side, or even more if you want to add protein to the sandwich. Would like it to come with a side of their roast potatoes, which I feel would make it a bit more worth it. Cute café otherwise though, dig the old laundromat look. read more

I stopped into Same Day Cafe one Saturday morning with my mom and aunt and we were pleasantly surprised. The outside isn't anything memorable or fancy and the inside is the same but the food is solid and they have some vegan options. They make 2 soups a day and try to make one a vegan option. The specials looked amazing (chicken pot pie and apple crisp). I had the vegan patty melt and it was delicious. They try to make everything that they can in house and you can tell. It isn't a large space and it gets busy quick but they made sure there is a little waiting area that you can stand in. During the summer they have a great patio in the front that has picnic tables. Perfect for those long summer nights you want to enjoy with friends and good food. A must try for Logan Square! read more

There are so many things great things about this place. The people are friendly and offer good service, the vinyl on the turntable was great, and I liked their sodas. But I have to complain about the Reuben sandwich I got. When I think reuben, the star of the show is the corned beef. But this version came on thick bread, into which the melted cheese was barely visible, and had just 1 (maybe 2) slices of corned beef, and a TON of pickled red cabbage. I thought the red cabbage may have been the beef when it arrived, but soon discovered otherwise. I think it was $13, with a couple of butter pickle disks and 2-3 spoonfuls of coleslaw (more cabbage!). I left carbo-loaded and protein-deficient. I'll go back and try again, but this visit disappointed. When you have to open up the bread of a reuben to see if there's any meat, that's a problem. read more

I came here last week, before going into Longman & Eagle next door (okay two doors down) for a light lunch. It looked inviting and there were lenity of seats available. Very clean and organized at the counter service area and very friendly staff. He was just one guy, but a good multitasker. The menu is small, but perfect. Very reasonable prices too. I needed something to hold me over before staging (culinary term for auditioning) at L&E. I tried the special which was hominy grits, with gruyere and rosemary. $4. Also the dill roasted carrots served with crème fraiche. $4. Talk about a pretty good inexpensive small meal. Service took a little long, because I was pretty much there mid day (after initial lunch service) and there was only one bartender/server. The carrots were soft with a little al dente feel, and a slight char, very tasty, perfectly seasoned. The crème fraiche was perfect dipping. The grits, unfortunately, I couldn't bring myself to give this place 5 stars only based on that. The grits themselves were cooked perfectly, but there was a real lack of that gruyere taste (I'm a cheese snob), and I felt was a little bland. Needed something, maybe an addition of more cheese to get that bit of salt. Otherwise, I would definitely come back for a sandwich, as reading about them made my salivate, but I didn't want to go into my audition all food coma'd out. read more

I was in Chicago this past Summer 2016 and despite all the great food I had over there, I still only think about Same Day Cafe. Who would have thought that a grilled cheese would change my life? I literally still think about it all the time. I have never had a grilled cheese so perfect. I always thought "whatever, I can make a grilled cheese at home" but NO. These are amazing! I literally brought all my friends here. My two favorites were the Grilled Cheese with Cheddar and Smoked Gouda (with Bacon and Cherry Tomatoes) and the Grilled Ham and Cheese. And can we also TALK about those Pan Potatoes? Definitely order a side of these and share them with a friend. The taste is beautiful and the perfect amount of ~mustardy~. Cannot wait to go to Chicago again to go back to this place. (Not to mention, the interior is also adorable and cozy!) No sides come with it. The biscuit was fluffy and delicious but paying $12 for a sandwich with eggs bacon and arugula seems a bit steep. I would definitely rethink coming here unless I was just getting a small dish. I wouldn't come for a proper meal here. Too hipster and expensive for me! read more

What a great find! A day trip to check out the 606 led us to this gem. We had grilled cheese, curry chicken salad, beet salad and roasted vegetable.
