Love this place! It's not the most noticeable establishment on the block but the menu is fresh and healthy and the sodas are bomb! I do wish there was an espresso machine, but other than that I love it! I'd recommend the grilled cheese with bacon and roasted tomato soup. Will be back! read more

I'm new to Logan Square and I have been searching for good restaurants. I like Same Day for breakfast because they have a small menu but good options. The prices are lower but the portion size is smaller too, which I love and wish more places would be reasonable like that. I sat outside with my dog and the waitress we had was very nice. The options we ordered were nice. My friend got the basic eggs and bacon. I got biscuits and gravy. It was all nicely done, and the coffee is bottomless which is nice. read more

Great place for a casual, light breakfast or lunch. I love the vibe. Vinyl on the record player, plants all around, light wood, white and clean... it appeals to the graphic designer in me. :) No, the menu isn't huge, but as others have mentioned, I believe it's because they want to focus on making less things so those items can be as delicious as possible. I think they try to make most ingredients in house (Rosemary bread=yum, syrups for sodas, pickles, etc) so that these seemingly simple things that other restaurants outsource can shine. No, it's not cheap, but when you make said items in house with fresh/local ingredients, they are a little more expensive. I'm willing to pay for that. So if you'd like a cheap pile of mass produced food, don't go here. If you'd like a well proportioned serving of local farm eggs and bacon atop freshly baked bread, this is your place. :) read more

Nice looking place. Got a nice looking BLT for $12. Not enough bacon to warrant charging $12 (or to call it a BLT for that matter). Longman and Eagle is 50 feet away, they offer sandwiches WITH a huge helping of beef fat fries for the same price. And they have a Michelin star. read more

I've been craving their grilled cheese since this place was the Flipside Cafe on Damen. I'm so glad they are back and in their own space! The bread is as good as ever. I was so excited when I found out the folks from Flipside opened a new spot. They always had such delicious offerings there; even with such a limited menu. Same Day did not disappoint. The scramble of the day was delicious and I can't believe how good the horchata coffee turned out to be. Great service and the brown butter cookies carry over from Flipside as well. I will start with a positive- the food here is delicious. We had a really good experience the first time we came here. We tried to come here again today with a group of 4. We put our name in with the hostess and she told us it would be about 15 minutes. We waited around and a few other groups came in after us. Another group of 4 came in after we had been waiting about 15 minutes, and put their names in as well. They stood around a bit and when a table opened up, we saw them look at it and motion to each other that they should sit down. They did, which bothered us because that was most likely going to be our table. They started to get served and we saw the hostess bring them menus even though she knew she did not seat them there. I went up to the hostess and asked how much longer for us and she looked around and said it would be another 15-20 minutes. I told her I was confused about why that group was sitting there since we came in before them and she was just kinda like "yea....." and was clearly very frazzled and didn't give me a clear answer, or ask the group to move since they hadn't been seated there and basically stole our table. We decided to leave because it felt very disrespectful. We won't be back. read more

I came in here with a Giftie and a hankering for grilled cheese so lucky me that they had that on the menu! The girl who took my order was super nice and had no problem using the Giftie. I got the grilled cheese and a side of potatoes. Both were fantastic. The sandwich had multiple kinds of cheese on it and the bread was perfectly done. The coleslaw that came with it went great with the sandwich. The potatoes were slightly spicy and delicious as well. The restaurant felt very welcoming inside. I liked that the restaurant was in an old dry cleaners. I thought that was cool. Would definitely return next time I'm in Logan Square. read more

Coffee was excellent. I had the tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwich. Soup I would give a 4 out of 5. Nice texture but a basic tomato soup. Grilled cheese is fantastic- hearty homemade bread made the sandwich. The bacon here is the best-extremely flavorful, thick and no fat. Add it to your sandwich. Highly recommend this hip new spot. Don't forget to look at the specials on the board situated as you come in. I came in on Saturday and had their tomato soup and grilled cheese. While the soup was good, it was not superb. But the grilled cheese was. I came in with my sister who had the spicy scrambled eggs, also delicious. It was so good we came back on Sunday. My friend had the blt, and my sister had the avocado toast. We also ordered the potatoes. When the waiter brought the food out my sister noticed a hair on the sandwich. The waiter apologized and took it back. It was back on the table less than 5 minutes later. A little fishy...As we asked for the check the waiter indicated he would write off the avocado toast but he didn't write it off he took half off. Another awkward thing is that you pay your bill on an iPad. So he stands there as you decide how much to tip him. Sunday brunch was great! Arrived at about 10.30 and got a table for 3 right away. While the menu is small there is a lot to pick from. You can't go wrong with any of the specialty sodas. I had the lime and basil, it was so good! I ordered of the specials of the day menu and got the cheesy grits with biscuits with sunny egg and bacon. I should preface my review by saying that my parents and I decided to go here because it was the only decent brunch place in the area (according to Yelp ratings) that didn't have at least a 45 minute wait on a rainy Sunday morning. After going to several others, we settled on this place. After all that, my expectations were not high, but even those were not met. I'll give the positives first: the coffee was tasty, and the service was prompt and friendly. Now for the rest: This is a restaurant offering brunch that does not have a single sweet breakfast item on the menu. I'm talking no pancakes, french toast, fruity crepes, waffles, muffins, etc. They could have thrown me a scone or a side of fruit and I would have been semi happy, but NOPE, those don't exist there either. The closest I could get to this was ordering a beet salad, which was awkward AF. In addition, the side of potatoes my dad ordered was extremely spicy and they didn't really mention that on the menu- I believe there was a misprint as to the type of sauce they used on them. He gets frequent heartburn and would not have ordered them if he had known. The rest of the food could have been described with a yawn...nothing was horrible but none of it stood out. They also have a BYOB policy, which I found irritating because it is different from most of the brunch places in the area. The front door is literally falling apart and gives an overall appearance of shabbiness upon entry. I get that it's Logan Square and character is important, but there is a big difference between 'authentic' and 'needs maintenance'. For most people looking for a pleasant brunch experience with a variety of menu options, this is not one I would recommend. The experience there is just not comparable to Lula, Longman, or Jam, and it is NOT a 4.5 star restaurant. read more

First time in Logan square so I wandered around a bit looking for somewhere to eat until I noticed this gem. The interior was super aesthetically pleasing with subway tiled walls, white mugs, and cookie jars. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. This place has a very simple but edgy vibe. The coffee was fantastic and they have a great variety of unique options on their menu. As I looked around everything looked so good. It was hard for me to pick what I wanted to eat! I settled for the grilled cheese because there were signs saying they were voted "best grilled cheese" so I had to try it out. Such bold flavor, it was everything I was looking for and more. The service was quick which was great because I didn't have much time. Good place to go if you want to take someone out for a quick breakfast or lunch. We didn't know what to think when this place opened up near our home in Logan Square, but we were duly impressed and have become breakfast regulars. The atmosphere is very bare-bones, and the service is fine, but the menu really shines; it's not extensive, but Same Day is a perfect illustration on how to do a very limited menu right by making every item on it work perfectly. This is a wonderful addition to the neighborhood. Everything is homemade and delicious. The soups are wonderful. Grilled cheese is delicious with bacon. The avocado toast is rich creamy and delicious. What can I say about the drinks! Homemade syrups for coffees and sodas. The mint iced coffee is refreshing and delicious as is the tart cherry soda. This location was formerly a Cleaners. In fact the the latter's lettering outside now shows only "Cafe." The waiter informed me it has been opened for 9 weeks. Welcome to Logan Square's Restaurant Row. The menu is very simple for summer. Specials are written on the chalk board. It has sandwiches for vegetarians and carnivores. I opted for my old favorite, an egg salad ($8). This one had arugula and pickled shallots on homemade rosemary bread. Scrumptious. Even the tiny Apple slaw was good. I drank an Earl Grey Iced Tea with it ($3). Some meats are from Slager Farms and Paulina Meat Market and the produce from local places. The pies are made in house. I'll be back. read more

Came here for lunch on a Saturday and were able to get a seat right away. The BLT was seriously incredible! I would also recommend the loaded grilled cheese and black tea. The menu isn't too big, but they nail the classics. I really enjoyed the decor, the natural light and wood tones make for relaxing environment.
