Downgrading from 5 to 4 stars. Still using Roselio and crew for Springtime weeding and hillside cleanup. Regarding scheduling, he's always been a little on the wishy-washy side and sometimes he'll reschedule work at the (almost) last minute. Not usually too much of a problem for us, since we like the price and quality of the work when it's done. This year, however, he rescheduled work on us three times, which is a bit excessive. The quality of the work is still there, though. Will continue to use him as long as my patience holds up. read more

Have been using Roselio Samayoa (510)837-1792 for the past couple of years. He has dug a trench for me to install an ev charger, trimmed broken branches, and now he's doing landscaping for me twice monthly for a fixed fee. His work quality is 10 of 10 and his prices are very reasonable. I HIGHLY recommend him and his crew!! read more

Unfortunately, like several reviewers who also expressed disappointment, I had a very similar outcome. I came upon him by a recommendation of a friend who had a glowing experience. Yeah I read the reviews after the fact. He came the first day with plants and lumber purchased, did the demo, and then I never saw him again. He said he didn't have the crew available when we discussed over multiple communications and agreements to come on other days. Then he totally ghosted me and in the 3rd week, Roselio finally texted back that he was ready to continue! I asked why he didn't communicate all that time and why would this time be different, but he ignored the question. Needless to say, I moved on and got the job done with someone else. Roselio was kind and pleasant. He was diligent about selling his team for the job. He even took me to see his other projects. His price was reasonable, but those positive starts turned to be a dud of an ending. read more

Do NOT work with Roselio. Especially if you are a repeat customer. Hard pass if he tries to upsell you on weekly weeding maintenance. He will never show up and if he does, it's super rushed and shoddy work. You've been warned. I will never work with Roselio again. He's charming, nice, and will go above and beyond on the first project and says he'll do everything you want. I wish I listened to the other reviews where they said he would not finish work or never called to give updates. Since my first landscaping project went well I was excited to work with Roselio again on a bigger project. I wanted to update my fence, gate, and redo the deck. First, he wasn't there during the day when the projects started. I'd only see him at the beginning and sometimes at the end of the day. So, when I saw things get built differently than what I had spoken to him about, I had to stop the men from working and had them call Roselio to make the changes. This happened several times and double work could have been avoided if he had just been there at the critical moments. There were wood shortages because of the pandemic, instead of calling me to let me know what's going on, he just disappears. I call and text wondering what's going on and it takes him weeks to get back to me. Moving on, the deck gets built and we scheduled the walkthrough to review the work and move onto the next project. He never shows up. He doesn't call to let me know till well over the scheduled time. He shows up when I'm out of town and said he did the walkthrough. Meanwhile, there was a split in a couple of the deck boards, wood that had cracked and should have been sanded down, bare spots where deck finish wasn't applied. At this point, I just want the last part of the job to be done which is a second gate on the other side of the house, he asks for money for the wood because I was upgrading the wood. I give him $400 and he's never come back. This is even after I referred him to 2 neighbors, where he starts and finishes their smaller jobs before mine. Do yourself a favor and pass on Roselio. read more

BE WARNED!! While Roselio and his guys were very nice, he's a complete con artist. About 4 years ago Roselio installed artificial grass for me. I recently moved into another home and, because I was so happy with his previous work, I called him to make over my new backyard. He told me my new project would take 5 days. It's now day 54! The last time he responded to any of my texts or phone calls was over two weeks ago when he "promised to finish the job by Friday." I really don't do drama. If he underestimated the timeline, the cost, or something came up, just communicate that and we can work through it. But he has never given a reason for his behavior. Now, I can't even get a response to my inquiries. In addition to not completing my job he did shoddy work! There's no weed barrier between the mulch and the dirt. I've got weeds popping up left and right! It's really disappointing that he would treat a return customer this way. P.s. I know we're in a pandemic. However, my project should have been finished 8 days before the "shelter in place order" AND he did work after the order went into effect. read more

July 2021: paid $10k cash upfront, abandoned the job with thousands of dollars of incomplete work

Roselio and his hardworking Samoyoa Landscapers performed the yearly maintenance my patio garden desperately needed-I had three patio garden issues needing attention: 1. Oh, boy~My tree needs a major trim getting rid of all the "Widow Makers!" Those tree limbs dangle four to five feet lower than the rest of the tree branches which could inadvertently snap killing someone should a high 50 MPH wind kick into gear; it was time for Roselio to remove all those widow makers STAT; also, the tree limbs were brushing against my home's stucco structure so, those tree limbs must be removed before the limbs break my bedroom window! Wow! It was so very dangerous watching Roselio removing those widow makers with the help of his two Landscapers insuring safety measures and precautions were utilized . . . I didn't want Roselio's wife screaming at me that my tree killed her husband: I was sweating BRICKS, biting my nails watching every widow maker being removed; tree limbs dangling so low could really kill someone-that's why these types of tree limbs are called, "Widow Makers!" After the widow makers were removed, sunlight bathed all my organic, fruit trees. I had to have Roselio eat one of my Granny Smith green apples . . . "Very good!" Roselio gives a thumbs up . . . Well, of course, Roselio: You had your crew replace 4-6 cubic yards of bad, clay soil and installed 4-6 cubic yards of fertile, organic soil so, producing fruits when you bite into them, the juice runs down your hand to your elbow-these are the major reasons why my fruit trees are flourishing and are so juicy! 2. Repair the irrigation hose leak . . . "Easy-fixed!" . . . Roselio smiles so big! Hah-hah-hah! 3. Install the black weed barrier on the top retaining wall so, I won't have to pull weeds! Thank you so very much, Roselio and Samoyoa Landscaping Crew: I'm you biggest fan because I'm growing organic, exotic dragon fruit, papayas, mangos, Buddhas Hand Citron, Meyer's Lemon, Satsuma Tangerine, avocado, Pinot Noir grapes, Korean Pear, blueberries, pomegranate, blackberries, potatoes, elephant garlic, snap peas, ginger, Thai basil, lime, and pineapple in my small 15-feet X 30-feet patio garden!!!!! read more

We have hired Roselio twice already and his team has been exceptional each time. We hired Roselio several months ago to clear out an overgrown backyard, and demolish/takeaway some old wooden structures. Roselio and team were able to complete this job within the time promised. The second time we hired Roselio was to landscape our front yard. With such short notice, from agreement to completion -- everything was done in 72hrs. His team prepared the landscape with weed prevention fabric, updated and added new irrigation (watering system), and planted all new plants. We are very happy with the results. Even after the job was completed, Roselio continues to follow-up to ensure plants are doing well and everything is working/functioning correctly. It is important to be clear on realistic expectations and having that conversation with Roselio. If both parties can be clear on the terms I am sure you will be as happy as we have been with their work. Also, you may have to manage your project a bit more than preferred, it is worth it in the end. We might hire Roselio again in the future. read more

I contacted Roselio and he came soon after to look at my yard. Roselio took the time to talk with me and give me landscaping ideas for my yard and listened to my input while making good suggestions and ideas that would work for me and would work for my budget. He also worked around my work schedule and returned any phone calls I made to him. His crew did a great job and I am so happy with my pavers and new lawn! Do not do business with Rosalio. I'm really disappointed. Rosalio and his crew have done a number of landscaping jobs for me over the past few years. While some have been a bit shoddy, he always eventually got it right. I had him bid on a small deck project. He was aggressive about scheduling time to review the project. Based on a trusted 3yr relationship, I agreed to advance him several hundred dollars for supplies with the promise the job would get done within 3 days. What can I say? After multiple replies with new days he would complete the job, He has totally vanished. Look elsewhere. read more

Resourceful: Can Rosalio get an 800 lb boulder and a 12 foot tree through a 32" gate? YES Integrity: His prices are always very fair and I have trust in him and his people. Attitude: Rosalio is just so darn cheerful, which I just enjoy. He has a gusto for life and his works side-by-side with his workers, who respect him and work together harmoniously. Language: Not 100% but nearly. Rosalio also texts, which is super convenient. Rosalio and his team have been my go-to resource for almost 3 years. When I built an addition onto my house (recently finished), I relied on Rosalio for excavation, grading, french drains and more. He can marshall any size crew on very short notice, which is an asset. After the addition, there was a complicated hardscape and landscaping plan: corten steel edging curved into precise shapes, with pavers and several kinds of gravel interspersed with shrubs and small trees. Irrigation too. It turned out very nicely (you can see this in the photo collection). They also perform maintenance on my garden several times a month, and do a very good job of proactively seeing what needs attention. read more

Yes I already wrote a review in February 2019, and I have to write another. Two years later I called the guys back to weed and replace the bark throughout the property. Roselio came last night to provide a quote, and the job is beautifully done already, less than a day later. His guys are friendly and work very hard. If you want basic no-frills work done at a reasonable price, these are your guys. read more

We had 2 projects done to our home. Front yard landscaping, and our immediate back yard. The front yard includes a new fence, sod, edging, and a new irrigation setup. This project came under budget and they did a fantastic job. Back yard was far more extensive. It included: New retaining wall (with proper drainage) New goat fencing Removal of a large shed Addition of granite compound to form a poor man's bocce ball court :) Irrigation, planting A lot of concrete with proper enforcement (rebar) and to fix some issues with drainage that we had (a part of the concrete had a negative slope into the house). This project came over budget by a bit. Though we were still really happy with the outcome and he worked within our means. Overall we are really happy with the outcome. Roselio knew his stuff with yard, landscapes and planting. He offered ideas but definitely listened to what we wanted. Might be hard to communicate, but I spoke spanish so it was easier. Still not impossible. Roselio was even nice enough to even mow our lawn when we didn't even ask for it weeks after project was complete!! We plan to work with his team in the future, and to have his team help maintain the yard. read more

I'm sorry that I have to amend my review. Roselio and his crew have become extremely unreliable about showing up and I no longer recommend them. They are supposed to come every two weeks but now they usually go three weeks (despite the fact that I pay them for every two weeks) before I get mad and remind them. And then Roselio apologizes, promises to come tomorrow, and then generally comes in two or three days. I won't be using his services any more and I recommend you don't either. read more

Roselio understand trees well and has been skillful and cost effective in managing our large oaks, pine, and other trees over the past 10 years. His cuts are thoughtful and he pays good attention to balance and the long term health of the tree. Roselio is incredibly helpful and always happy to assist with any request that comes throughout the year. Roselio and his crew recently put down rock in the front yard, trimmed the trees around the front and back, and are great for keeping up maintenance. With winter approaching I wanted to make sure the solarium was bolted down and he did just that! In addition, he established drip systems around the front and back yard which helped bring down water usage and make the yard and garden more efficient. Even small things like fixing a shower door I can count on Roselio to do! He is truly a jack of all trades and will do his best to make sure you are happy with his work. If you are looking for major work done or routine maintenance or even perhaps someone to set up a drip system, I would recommend his services. read more

This is long overdue and I feel bad for not updating sooner. Unfortunately many people already had to suffer due to the good reviews posted here, and mine's being one of them. I had initially picked Rosilio and his team based off the reviews on Yelp. A few years ago, when he did our backyard, he did a good job and he came himself. After that I hired his team to maintain our backyard on a continuous basis. That became the biggest headache of our household. His team wouldn't do a thorough job nor did they ever have a time set of when they would come. Then we started to give them set dates & time, so we could be there to show them what we wanted done. Roselio would say that they will come and then end up not showing. Multiple times we were hosting parties and ended up having to do whatever little we knew ourselves because Roselio said the team would come but they didn't. In addition, Roselio would stop taking our calls and if he picked up, he would say I'll call you back but never would. I do not recommend this team at all for one main reason, they are COMPLETELY UNRELIABLE!!! Save yourself money, time and headaches. Please give your business to people who are honest and want your business. read more

Roselio and his crew did three different jobs for us. Replaced and installed three new sprinkler valves and shut off valve; raised the existing sprinkler heads for efficient delivery of water to entire 2 lawns; repaired damaged paving bricks of front porch. Overall, the crew was on time, hard working and efficient. The quality of the work was good. Roselio was flexible and worked around our schedule. We plan to work with Roselio and his team in the future and do not hesitate to recommend him to friends. read more

Roselio and his team did an amazing job on our full front/back yard redo during the spring. Ripped out and took away everything (shrubs, trees, concrete pathways, fences), leveled everything as needed, built all new 8ft redwood fences and gates, laid down 10000 bricks in the back yard (on gravel/sand with concrete foundation all around perimeter) and did it so well that we can now skate on them, built a couple of brick benches, planted dozens of privacy trees in the back and ornamental plants in front, filled in mulch and mexican beach pebbles, and installed a full drip system. So many things could have gone wrong but nothing did, thanks to their amazing know-how, and we're extremely pleased with the result. Gracias Roselio and team! read more

You need to carefully review all of the RECENT reviews to see the pattern of poor work habits and workmanship that plague this man and his crew. Do not hire him unless you want perpetual headaches and to lose your money. He never shows up when he says he will. His crew does shoddy work. He will ask for money outside of agreed upon milestones. His crew will show up at his leisure and work sporadically. You will have to hound him to get him to show up at all. This could take weeks. His crew will not clean up, nor will they do all requested steps of projects. I still have a pile of boxes, broken tiles, and dust from a horrible tiling project that one man completed, despite having virtually no prior experience with tiling. I hired him for a large home project, based on old reviews. It was to take three weeks. We are now approaching three months and the project is not completed. The projects that were done are incomplete and will need to be fixed. This has been a nightmare. I am still waiting for him to return my key and he has tools remaining in my shed. Do not hire this man and his crew. read more

Roselio's crew came out and did work for me last year, and did a great job. So this year when I needed more help, I contacted the owner again and tried to schedule a time for them to come out. They didn't show on Sunday like he said, so I contacted another company a couple of days later, and they were going to come out the next Thursday. Thursday morning THIS crew shows up rather unexpectedly, so then I had to cancel the other appointment I had made. Then about three weeks ago, same thing. The owner text me he'd be over Thursday at 8am, and nobody ever showed. I text him once again that day, and never heard back. read more

I was recommended Roselio when we first moved to the area for a project fixing some fencing. He asked to pay half upfront for supplies and promised a quick turnaround. I took PTO to be around for the start day only to have him NOT SHOW UP. After weeks of calling and texting and always being told tomorrow or later this week he finally showed up and did half the work. Only to repeat this process for another few weeks. Once the project was done, it took another 2 weeks of messaging him to have his crew come clean up the mess. The work was done well but it wasn't worth the hassle of trying to track him down. I'd recommend you just find someone reliable. read more

I'm a real estate agent and use Roselio consistently to prep homes for sale. I fined his pricing to be very fair. Especially since I had the opportunity to work with dozens of Gardeners though out the years and see what many other companies charge. The quality of work is very good and I've always been impressed with the transformation of the yard. What I like most about Roselio is that he doesn't have the word "No" in his vocabulary. What ever you need him to do he will bring a crew and do it. Anything from complicated landscaping/Concrete work to handy man work and hauling trash. read more

We were super impressed with Roselio and his team. Our front and back yard was a jungle. We hadn't had any kind of service since last May and with all of the recent rain our yards quickly became out of control. It was a Thursday evening in the midst of that last two week storm that I reached out to a handful of companies for a quote. Roselio responded quickly and showed up the next day to have a look and give an estimate (in the pouring rain). His quote seemed fair and he said his team could start the work next day rain or shine. It was pretty awesome. A team of three showed up and 7 hours later our yard was transformed into a beautiful landscape. I did a walk through at the end with his team and asked to address a few spots missed which they did with no complaints. At the end of the day Roselio showed up to do a final inspection. He had some suggestions for fixing a few of my hedges and overgrown bushes. He and his team took care of it at no extra charge. I was very impressed my this. Great customer service. His workers all seem happy, good energy, well taken care of. We will definitely be continuing maintenance service with him and his team. read more

Samayoa did a great job, at a great price. My El Cerrito yard, front and back, was a thicket of invasive weeds. The back yard was very uneven and sloped down irregularly, making it hazardous and unusable. Samayoa first hand-pulled all the weeds. Then built a 2-ft rock retaining wall and brought in a few truckloads of topsoil (free, from another job that required soil removal!) and leveled it out to just a gentle, even slope. Then covered the entire front and back with landscape cloth and mulch. And at no additional cost, trimmed 2 medium-size trees on the property. All throughout, the owner, Roselio, was in touch by phone and text. When I was at work, he'd text me photos of their progress during the day! So easy to do business with. Very highly recommended. read more

**CAUTION **WILL GO SILENT AFTER TAKING MONEY** I should have trusted the other 1 star reviews when I was looking for a landscaper to redo my yard. I however fell for the reasonable quote and thought even if Roselio ends up taking a little longer than expected for the project, it will still be worth it to wait until he can finish. WRONG! To say he is FLAKY and UNRESPONSIVE is an understatement. He originally told me it will take 3 weeks to finish my project and that he will be working every single day. The project dragged on for 3++ months never finished, with him and his crew only showing up 11 days total. I made the mistake to give him an initial deposit of over $XX,XXX since the project was so large he needed $ to buy materials. I quickly learned it was the BIGGEST mistake. I have never worked with a company with so little integrity. I had to text and call every single day practically begging him to come to work. It brought so much stress for our family. We had scheduled a large family get together we were not able to host because Roselio and his crew never finished the work. We would ask him to be honest with us and let us know if the team was too busy, begged him to give us the opportunity to hire a new landscaper so that we can meet deadline. He would lie and say he can get the job done, promising he'll show up the next day -- but noone will show. Eventually we fired him so that we can move on from this. We are still asking for the rest of our deposit back. Its been over a month and we still have not heard back. To make sure this doesnt happen to anyone else.. I highly recommend you to reconsider. Ive also reach out to others who have left comments about their similar experience with Roselio, it helped me to contact them to get their feedback. If you're considering him, it may be rise to read through all the comments so that you understand this is becoming more of a habit. If Roselio sees this, I hope he understands this is WRONG and to please give us our $ back. read more

Roselio asked for a $300 advance for landscaping services. He never showed up to do the work.

Roselio came to give us a very affordable estimate to clean up our HUGE yard in Vallejo (just under an acre). If you enlarge the pics, you can see the yard was full of weeds, had a random cactus we didn't like, and the shrubs had not been trimmed in at least 10 years. Didn't take pics of the front yard, but we had him cut all the mistletoe out of our huge tree out front. They hauled away everything they cut down or weeded and blew and cleaned up the yard perfectly afterward. In 3.5 hrs, Roselio and his crew did more than I could do in 3.5 days. They worked so hard and did such a great job. If I ever need any yard cleanup again, they will be who I call. Call Roselio for a free estimate. He is the best!!! read more

I continue to get the monthly maintenance - I chose the twice monthly and it's been great! I highly recommend Roselio Samayoa's service! Roselio and his team did a great job of doing a complete hardscaping of a nonfunctional dirt area in front of our condo that we wanted to turn into a functional patio, and did a complete landscaping job on our rooftop. For the patio area they had haul out about 2 tons of dirt and some large boulders/rocks, regrade the surface, concrete wall, build a new privacy fence, build a retaining wall and then put in the Italian stone tiles. Roselio took us to a place where we got the materials for significantly less than the cost than in Berkeley. On the roof, they reduced the weight of all the planter boxes, installed irrigation, and planted all the plants we bought. Roselio communicates easily by text and phone, and often brought in extra people to make sure things were done as agreed upon. He followed up a month later to make sure everything was okay. Overall, Roselio charged about 50% less than the other three estimates we got. read more

Roselio and his crew did an amazing job with our backyard. We live on a hill and our backyard used to be tiers of plants with no design or structure. It was completely unusable and had grown pretty unruly. After our son was born, we realized that we needed a place outdoors that was family friendly. We approached Roselio with a design from a landscape architect which he followed precisely, but also suggested changes that not only looked great but enhanced the functionality of the backyard. One of the most amazing feats that Roselio accomplished was removal of 1000 lb boulder that was an eyesore and was disrupting all plans for a usable garden. After hammering away it, Roselio thought of an ingenious plan to bury the boulder. It took a lot of work and dedication from his team, but they managed to get it done. His team was punctual and friendly and had a lot of knowledge for what would and would not work. They were very reasonably priced. They finished relatively close to the proposed date. They brought expertise in stonework, woodwork and landscaping as evident from our beautiful retaining wall, extended patio and lush green lawn that i never thought possible in our house. Our life has changed now that we have a working yard and we have received nothing but compliments on the quality of work produced by Roselio and his team. read more

Updating my review for Roselio. We have been working with him since 2014. There was one point we looked elsewhere, but we didn't find the same quality of work for our landscaping needs. Recently we had a job that required work beyond landscaping and Roselio went above and beyond. He always does exceptional work and gives quality advice. He ensures that the work he does is not only done properly, but looks good as well - he won't just do a job without first ensuring what the expectation is for the outcome. I will look for someone else for the next time... I called Roselio based on the job he did, maybe a couple of times in the last three years, of trimming the 4 bottlebrush trees in my garden and on the edge of the sidewalk. I wanted them trimmed like a hedge and rounded on the top. I was very pleased with the job and the price. $150 for 4 bottlebrush trees. At that time he was on the job himself. Now, several years later, there are only 2 bottlebrush trees in need of trimming the same way. I called him on 11/22 and he said he would come and give me an estimate the following day. He did come, but later than he said and in the dark, and gave me an estimate of more than twice the price for half the trees. Then he came down $100. So $300 for 2 trees. And he said he would come the following day, 11/24 at 1 p.m. The following day 2 guys show up (not Roselio at all) before 10 a.m. with a high-sided truck and nothing but long-handled pruning shears! (I feel that he just picked them up as day laborers on some corner.) They worked very hard but without a hedge trimmer it was not so good, all spiky, and maybe I could have done that myself. Before they left I spoke to Roselio on the phone and told him they need a hedge trimmer. He said he would bring one. None of us knew when he was coming. I had to go out but later I could see that a hedge trimmer had been used. Even so, it was still not such a good and smooth job as before, and some parts were missed. I imagine they rushed it because they had spent so many hours with nothing but a pair of pruning shears. And they left without pay and I never heard from him for a week. I, foolishly, contacted him to pay him a week later. He said he would come at 2 p.m. but came at 5 p.m. with no phone call to tell me he would be late. Then he promised to do some more work, and that "he knew exactly what I wanted," and would come and do some more work on 12/3 at 8:30-9.00 to finish it up. He didn't show and didn't call. I called him to complain. He promised to come at 3 p.m. on 12/5. Needless to say he didn't come and he didn't call. I am sure there are better people out there. I find his lack of calling to tell you that he can't make it very disrespectful (of my time), at the very least. I would be really upset if the trees continued to look really ragged, but they don't. Still, he is flaky. read more

You can trust your garden to Samayoa Landscaping and know it's going to flourish and fit your vision year round. I will never hire another gardening service again! I've hired many over the past twenty years and no one has shown the dedication, care, goes the extra mile, is a lovely person to work with, nor as knowledgeable-about-plants, caring, and as professional as Roselio and his crew have been. Roselio Samayoa wants your garden to look great! And mine surely does. He has transformed and maintained a beautiful semi-tropical-semi-miscellaneous-Nor-Cal space for over three years now, which includes a number of fussy plants. What thriving! My banana trees are the talk of the town, with leaves as big as surfboards, the kiwis and tangerine are loaded with fruit, the trumpet flowers never stop flowering, the roses are still going, and the bamboo has gotten at least 15 feet taller since Roselio & Crew started, etc. etc.! It's November and I've still got lots of blooms and lushness going on. What I really appreciate is the way Roselio attends to detail and communicates. He's got a great, hardworking crew. He understands how to take care of plants. What they need in the way of water and fertilizer and pruning. He'll transplant if a plant would be happier elsewhere. He stays on top of what needs to be done seasonally and looks forward, so everything will look great year-round. If he has recommendations, I can count on him to give me a call. His crew are more than willing to plant items I pick up at the nursery. He's both practical and creative and did a top-notch irrigation system for me, fixing an older one that never quite worked correctly. it's not so easy to find a gardening service that provides full-service professional attention at this level of care and knowledge at an affordable price. I'm very happy to say the search is over. read more
