I really enjoy this location as a regular. It's great when one of the girls is working as bartender. However, whenever the guy closes the bar, he always lies and says that the kitchen had to be shut down for technical kitchen issues.. not only does he lie about it, but he is rude about it. This place turns down paying customers! I went to take my buddies and my girlfriend for my 21 run. We came to the door and the dumb muscle head, brown hair, 6'3", leather jacket, bouncer turned down my girlfriend for getting in the door and she's 22 turning 23 in 5 months! She even spent her 21st bday here!!?? He quizzed her on her license and she answered everything correctly without hesitation and said her license was fake! And threatened to take her license away, what's hilarious is her mother is a cop and her dad works for liquor control board. You guys need to teach your bouncers how to truly spot a real/correct license. The guy was sexist to her and disrespectful, and later saw him let a girl in without even looking at her ID. Pretty much everything about this place was average at best. As other reviewers have mentioned, the burgers were incredibly greasy, and weren't much for the price. On a slow Monday afternoon, our order took 30 minutes to be served. I know, right? It's a bad sign! For an order of Jalapeño burger and Hot Chicken wings, I really think it was unacceptable to wait 30 minutes for our order to be served. We were ignored from the moment we entered, we were given no water and I honestly believe the bar tender/server was put out that I asked for service at our table. Had dinner here Saturday night. My friend had the classic, I had the 50/50. I'd rate the 50/50 in the top 2 burgers I've had in Seattle. My friend enjoyed the classic as well. On top of that, the fries were crisp and delicious. The atmosphere matches what Sam's is trying to be with with a lot of throwback items from Seattle's earlier days and some recognizable artifacts from original Red Robin locations in a shoutout to the owner's history. My friend kept commenting on the prices as well. Very reasonable for the quality of food. Overall a great experience. After reading some of the more negative comments here I would guess their experiences were more related to opening pains than what you should expect from Sam's on an ongoing basis. So decided to check this out. After all, they are supposedly the sons of the owners of the original Red Robin right????? So I must say it was just an ok experience. We went on a Friday night around 6 pm. I ordered the Juicy Lucy and my friend ordered the Sam's 50/50 club. We asked for it well done and we had to return the 50/50 burger 3 times due to the meat being undecooked (we asked for well done). Instead the burger was definately pink if not almost rare. My Juicy Lucy turned out fine and definately was a good burger! They said the 50/50 is pink inside because it has bacon mixed into the patty. Uhh...yeah right. I"ve had burgers like that before and that definately is not the case. So ended up getting another Juicy Lucy in lieu of the 50/50 club. The fries were good too. Although, with the combination of my Juicy Lucy burger and fries it almost tasted l like an "upscale" version of Dick's Deluxe burger and fries. So, since it has a similiar taste...I might as well go to Dick's since it's cheaper and just down the street. The previous reviews stated the service was pretty lousy and diffcult to request more "endless" fries or even water for that matter. I must say I would have to agree with those reviews as well. I think this issue was due to only have 2 waitress waiting on the bar and on all the tables. Food was terrible. Only one waitress for the whole place. She was tending bar and waiting on the whole restaurant. Six people for a birthday dinner and she screwed up half of the orders. We came here early on a Saturday afternoon and found out they had 12 oz cans of Rainier for only $1. They came fast and they came often. After about 4 each we got a bit hungry so got some food. The Juicy Lucy was incredibly messy. It feel apart immediately, but it had some great flavor to it and the meat was pretty damn tender. I had heard the original owner of Red Robin opened this place. I saw this place on mystery diner. First thing I did was yelp it. I saw a picture of the Bloody Mary slider and I knew I must have one. What a great idea !! If you've been to capital hill u know that there's a bar every couple of feet. Walking into Sam I found my self very well decorated place small but cozy. The place was fairly busy . Got a booth and was greeted quickly by a wonderful bartender. Wish I got her name. Told her what I wanted and informed me that a little wait which I expected. Ask for a pop while we waited. Being a bartender by trade I can be very critical . The two girls working were always doing something seemed to be friendly with the customers. Well the moment I was waiting for was here! The Bloody Mary slider was wonderful . Only thing that was missing was a little plate. That was easy fix napkin plate. The burger was nice and juicy could use more seasoning . Every other garnish was wonder. The only thing that would make it better would better swap wiener with pepperoni stick and add a shrimp. The Bloody Mary itself was excellent a little spicy for me but very tasty. You guys need to name this drink a name like sam's original Bloody Mary slider . This place has a lot to figure out. I went in a couple of weeks ago and had a great time! Chill vibe, great bartenders, everyone's happy. I went in last night and it totally changed! I ordered my drinks at the bar and sat down- then got a lecture from the server (cold manager?) that I was supposed to order from the table! (even though the menu says order from the bar.) Super confusing. On top of that, we were just chilling and having some drinks, and she kept coming back every couple of minutes asking if we wanted more drinks. We didn't, and got kinda tired of having someone bother us and felt like we were obligated to order more in order to sit there. I looked like there were 5 or 6 people working in the bar, and it wasn't that busy- so maybe she was just bored- but it was really offputting. I can't tell if they're trying to be a bar, or trying to be a restaurant. The whole "stay at your table and wait for your server" think is kinda weird, and makes it more of a restauranty feel, like Red Robin. They want you in, served with fake service, and out if you're not drinking more- definitely not a place I want to stay at for very long. I liked it better when it was more of a bar. read more

Came here for a few shots on New Year's Eve, ordered three overpriced shots at 10 dollars each, tipped one dollar and the bartender pointed at my tip and said that she was calling me out on my "crappy tip" and proceeded to tell her bartender friends that we didn't tip well while being as loud as possible about it. I am sorry but pouring shots is not painting a Picasso, and it is a gratuity for a reason. Maybe if you want a better tip you should provide better service, you know, be friendly and smile. She is lucky I tipped at all. I've gotten friendlier service from all the other bars on Capitol Hill. read more

This place is like the B-movie Hollywood set version of what it should be. I kept waiting to find out mid-meal that I was actually part of a police sting or reality show. Not to say that the food was terrible; the burgers had just a smidgen of resemblance to hockey pucks, and I'm pretty sure I have a bag of those fries in my freezer, but the service was actually spot on, beer was decent...you know when someone asks how something was, and you make that long "eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee" noise? Speaking of steer, the hand formed Gourmet Burgers are the bomb, the bottomless logger sized seasoned fries are an amazing accompaniment. If you order the Gouda & Wisconsin White Cheddar Mac and Cheese is great, do ask for bacon on top. We don't drink, so our review is based on the food, funky music and service. Recently happened upon Sam's Tavern while in Seattle over New Years! Apparently they just opened--as in we were there on the first night open to the public--and I have to say they really had it together! The burger I had with brie cheese made my mouth bliss out and I smiled from the inside :) Truly delicious and they had a great selection of vodkas, really warm, lodge-type, inviting atmosphere--cool but not too cool--the kind of place you can go any night of the week and know you will get great service, good food and the perfect drink to go with. Can't wait for their next location to open ... hopefully in LA! read more

I am unsure what all the bitching is about. Sam's Tavern is attentive, funny, and plays way better overhead music than 90% of the bars in the Pike/Pine Corridor. It's a place for grownups and first time out of towners, it is also great for those who travel here on business and get a returning smile. People remember "your" drink and "your burger". That is how it should be done in the Industry. I love you Seattle, but get over yourself. It almost looks like a bunch of people who seemed threaten got on here to give this place a bad name. I tried out this place for the first time after purchasing a Groupon. I have to say that I loved it! The music was right on and not too loud. The burgers were burgers with lots of toppings, and the bottomless fries were good (maybe a little too salty, but I don't care for salt on most things). Also you cannot beat $1 Rainers. The waitress/bartender was good and had quick turnaround time even without have to hoard over you. I will be visiting again in the future. read more

I am very displeased with Sams tavern. I have been here on multiple occasions, some of which have been a decent experience, while others have been unacceptably terrible. I went here this last Saturday with my girlfriend. We ordered two drinks and left. I chose not to tip the bartender because he was very snobby to my friend and I. My total came to $16.33 cents with NO tip, but my bank statement shows my total for Sams Tavern being $18.33. This is not the only time that I have had Sams add their own tip to the bill. This is completely unacceptable. It really goes to show how bad their staff and management is here. I cannot speak to whether their food is good or not, but one things for sure, keep your receipts! read more

Decent divey type bar. Our server was also the bartender but she was good, quick with the menus and drinks, and checked up on us a couple times. I had a grapefruit drink that was too sweet - should have gone for the Bloody Mary, and definitely will next time. They had a fun selection of 80s music playing, we got to rock out with our burgers. This place is perfect for a rainy Friday afternoon. They had dollar Rainiers and pbr tall boys, they had $5 drafts through happy hour, and some pretty delicious cocktails. The atmosphere is warm and fun. There's a packman game for two, and some other video games around. The bartender was super friendly, and was working the whole place by herself, but no body was left wanting. The location and view of the street is perfect. Its the second place we hit up when we got into town, and we loved it. Unfortunately we did not try anything from the kitchen, so I have nothing to review in that regard. read more

we are regulars here but we visited on 10/22/15 around 10:30pm, Nave has no customer service @ all ! first of all, when we arrive the bar all the tables are all filled with dirty napkins & cups, cans of beers, she no even care to clean fr us, so we have to clear a table out ourselves to have a place to eat. 2nd, we waited fr at least 20 minutes to place order but she not even acknowledge customers ? so we had to go to the bar to place orders ourselves ?! she never comes to us to see how we are doing or if we need anything . the restaurant is not even busy. we will definitely not coming to dine in this restaurant if she's on duty !
