My husband and I sat at the bar for lunch. Again, we got the last two seats! It has about 16 barstools and very cozy. The bartender was very kind and efficient and made me an awesome espresso martini. Michael had the Maine Lunch on tap. His fried haddock sandwich was tasty but the actual piece of fish should have been larger. He got the tail which was flat and small. The French fries and onion rings it came with were awesome. I had the muscles appetizer for my entree which was delicious and plentiful. The broth they came in was excellent. We saw there cheese pizza come out and it looked very good. Sat at bar tonight 1/10/26 Comfortable Seats Good pizza I do not recommend the antipasto....1 piece of prosciutto, no mortadella and mostly lettuce! BUT........... I came back for a visit. I left Danvers after living there for 2.5 years. I always loveddddd their chicken picatta!!! The sister bartenders are always fast and efficient. It's family owned and cozy! That's why I love it here.:) I'm glad we came. Today they had 70 customers with no reservations!!! And they served them so efficiently. It's called down. We are finishing up our wine. Food is excellent. The wait staff is slow but kind. The owner leaves much to be desired. My husband and I had sat down at a booth for 2 and the man in the booth behind us was continuously tapping on his plate with a fork loudly while eating. It was getting annoying. I asked our waitress if we could please move to other side where I knew it would be quieter. She said yes and we moved quietly. I had just been served my salad and was eating it when another waitress came over apologizing but asked us to move back to the other side. The booth we were in could accommodate 4-6 people. The owner must have become aware and sent her to move us. I refused, saying I was eating and this was very bad business. We have seen this owner in action before and he's always rude to people. But I've never said anything before. They served us our dinner without asking us to move again. I paid the full tip to the initial waitress who was caught in the middle. There was no compensation or discount or even an apology from the owner for his bad behavior. I didn't want to take it out on the wait staff but this guy has no concern for keeping customers happy. read more

Came in for dinner with my mom. Kayla was our server and she was prompt and amazing!! Such a sweet girl. She's a phenomenal server. The bar is a ten , the restaurant is clean and beautiful!! Ok so , I want to start by saying that my dad is an Italian chef for over 40 years, so I am very picky about Italian food. Especially meatballs! But I took a chance and ordered the meatballs. We started with them as an appetizer. I'm not even kidding when I say they are the best meatballs that I have ever had besides my dad's. my mom ordered the seafood pasta and it was loaded with all kinds of seafood. She thoroughly enjoyed it , and my mother is very picky and critical. I ordered the scallops carbonara with fettuccini . I'm not even exaggerating when I say that it was possibly one of the best meals I've ever eaten. Tony , the owner , was there doing everything he could to help out in the restaurant. Super sweet guy! I met his two sons who do the cooking. I told the one who made the meatballs about my dad and how phenomenal his meatballs are and that I could honestly say that they were the best I'd ever had. Now to talk about the prices. I can't get over how cheap this place is for the quality and portion sizes! Both of our meals were under $23 and we will easily get three meals each out of both! $10.95 for three gigantic meatballs!! I'm blown away! Our entire meal was $62 with drinks!! Why ANYONE goes to Boston is beyond me! This place is right on the water and has the most beautiful outdoor deck. My moms house is walking distance and I'm a little jealous! We were here for the weekend and were looking for a place to eat. Alot of places were closed because it was Sunday, so we were so happy they were open. The hostess was so kind and sweet! Very friendly, which was a great start. We all ordered different things.. salad, meatballs, pasta, a flatbread and calazones. Everything was delicious, we had no complaints. The wine was good, our server Lucy was awesome and the restaurant inside is very clean and beautiful. We sat outside and the view was gorgeous. When we're in town, we will def be back! I've been eating at Sam & Joes for years literally. Although my husband and I don't eat in the actual restaurant, the to go service we use is absolutely wonderul. We share a cheese pizza and potato skins between us. Every single time it is exactly the same - and that's a good thing. Consistency is key here. Very disappointed that they were closed New Years Eve...my family has been getting their pizza EVERY new years...first year in my 47 yrs of life that we have not had their pizza for new years. We decided to try Sam and Joes for Saturday night prime rib. The portion was huge, and our waitress Kelsey was very friendly and attentive. I would have given a 5 star review. However, upon entering the restaurant, we were ignored. I assume that the gentleman in the dress shirt was the manager. I understand having a conversation with long-time customers, but you should at least say hello to some entering your establishment. When we arrived at the waiting area, again, I am just assuming the young lady was the maitre d' was working on the computer, and still we were not acknowledged of our presence. The manager and the maitre d' started a conversation about the computer. Still, no one had spoken to us. A simple "we will be right with you" would have gone a long way! By the way, we are the only people in the waiting area. When the front desk help came in. The manager told her that he needed to speak to her about the nights arrangement. This all took place while we were still waiting for someone to say something to us. They have a patio, and we thought they may offer us a table there. After the update, the young lady that just arrived finally asked us if we're being waited on. The other maitre d' said put them table 11. Never asked us if we would like to be seated outside. Even if the tables were reserved, they could have told us that. We had no issues on where we sat. The meal was awesome! I recommend you ask for Kelsey! read more

Disgusting! There were fruit flies buzzing around us and the pizza was dreadfully greasy and much too garlicky. I felt ill the entire day after consuming it. The waitress Patty was inattentive and quite rude. I would have to describe her as obnoxious. There were loud young men seated behind us, so I asked the hostess if it would be ok for us to move down a couple of booths. She said of course, so we did. The table was bare as we hadn't even ordered yet. Well Patty took great offense to this, and loudly proclaimed that we had moved. Patty is easily offended obviously, because when after this whole horror story was over and we finally got the check she rudely asked if we wanted to take the leftover pizza, we said no thanks and she shouted "what's wrong with you people!" I restrained myself from retorting, as I was raised to have manners. We waited forever, and ever for the yucky pizza, and only had flat sodas and the fruit flies to help us wile away the time. Oh yes, and the tinny music which sounded as if it were coming from a transistor radio from the 1960s. How infuriating to waste precious time this way. We will NEVER go back!!!! Been to this restaurant for dinner many many times. Food has always been good. Their spaghetti with meat sauce is still one of the best spaghetti I've ever had in a restaurant. Sauce is good, pasta cooked to perfection, huge portion, at the right price. Bread is good. Beer is good. ;) Nice location, close to the water. Parking can be challenging. Real small parking lot... be careful going in and out.... Their bar is nice too. Not too noisy, fresh popcorn, friendly bartenders. I would highly recommend that place. read more

We ordered takeout last week for 4 of us. They did forget to give us bread, which I love, but that was ok. This is one of my go to places when I want Veal Parm and they do not disappoint. We had dinner Covid style. We were seated inside and felt comfortable, separated and safe. My dinner was amazing. I had the Balsamic salmon on a caprese salad. To die for. I almost licked the plate clean. My husband had angel hair pasta with sausage and meat sauce. This was good but the pasta needed to be cooked with more salt. Huge portion and the sausage was delicious. We can't wait to go back and sit on the outside deck overlooking the water. Parking can be a bit hectic as they cut there parking lot in half to add seating. I'd park on the street if possible. Everyone was very nice. read more

If you're in a hurry here, then you're screwed. We went on a weekday night. The place was around half full. It took the waitress nearly 15 minutes just to take our order. Then close to 40 minutes for the food to arrive. The food was mediocre. As an Italian American I have a rule - a place is exceptional only if I can't make better food at home. Unfortunately, with the only exception of the arancini, this place fails. The gravy is so-so. My seafood pasta was slightly overcooked and underseasoned. The portions are ridiculously large and as all Italians know, eating reheated old pasta the next day is gross. Oh and by the way, if they tell you that they ran out of bread (an old-school Italian place running out of bread?) it's bullshit. About 20 minutes after we were told this, some recently arrived customers were seated with fresh baskets of bread. Not good. We will not be back. read more

I have lived on the North Shore for basically my entire life, and thought I knew every small restaurant in the area. I discovered tonight that I have been so wrong. Sam & Joe's has a very tiny narrow parking lot and the fact that it was filled to capacity is a good indicator of the quality of food inside. We started with Jalapeño Poppers which were served with marinara sauce, the serving was plenty for 2 and although not very spicy were surprising sweet and tasty. The specialty pizza of the night was a Sea Scallop, Bacon, & Alfredo combination. The alfredo had thrown me off before we saw and tasted it and it works extraordinarily well with the saltiness of the scallops and the sweetness of the bacon. The service was prompt from beginning to end. Our bill was under 40 dollars and that included two beers, the appetizer and the pizza. Not bad. I will definitely be back. read more

For example when I asked to substitute something for my pasta (not an uncommon occurrence in this day and age) the waitress looked at me like I had three heads and started to think of reasons why I should just eat the high-density carbs. No thanks, but thanks for trying. When my dinner came, the food here wasn't bad. It was tasty, not from a can, the chicken obviously hadn't been marinating in all sorts of unholy things, and everything just tasted.. tasty. Also there's a bar. I didn't go it. There seemed to be a lot of locals. So if that's your gig and you're in danvers, this may be the bar for you. My boyfriend and I live very close to Sam and joes. We go there to have dinner at least once a week. Everything is exceptional.. especially the pasta. All of the bartenders are always extremely friendly and remember our drink and food orders. The owner always greats us.
