We've gone there like 3 times and gotten appetisers 2 of 3 times and they were horrible both times. We had their artichoke and spinach dip and it was sooooooooo burnt. We just recently went there and I got the Calamari for myself and they didn't cap the sauce so it spilled all over the box and it was soooooooooo rubbery I threw 95% of it away. We did take out these last two times. This past time the girl working the take out didn't even know what she was doing and charged us for an app for the onion petals instead of listing it as a side and I asked for an itemized receipt and she didn't even know how to get that. Salvino's is a huge disappointment. Sadly, it cannot compare to Uccellos in Wayland. No one understands why they would not have brought the cook staff from Uccellos to train the cook staff at Salvino's. I've given this place many tries, and this is my critique. Positives: * Comfortable and inviting décor. * Good beer selection. * The chicken Caesar salad is very good. Negatives: * Everything on the menu is at least $10. This would be fine, but it isn't good food. o Their house dip IS good, but it is very small for an appetizer. A party of four would not get more than one bite each. This is more like a Tapas plate. o Their hamburgers are dry. Even if you order it medium rare. o The pasta sauces taste like canned sauces from the grocery store. o The club sandwich is extremely dry. There is virtually no dressing. o Beware the chicken wings. You're supposed to get 10 wings with celery sticks. You get 5 wings, 5 leg drummies and 3 small (very small) pieces of celery. Really? The good news is that someone will buy them when they go under due to the extensive renovations. So, there is hope that something will replace them that is MUCH better. read more

Our two year old grandson has life-threatening allergies to peanuts and tree nuts and this restaurant has a salad with walnuts. We called ahead and the owner offered to cook a meal special for him away from the walnuts. She wasn't there when we arrived but the manager took great care of us. Good people. I go up here open minded. Sauce was horrible crust was decent. Finished product looked great. But the sauce made it one of the worst pizzas ever. The girl said they have a chicago style pizza. The menu said stuffed. If they do one that is truly a stuffed chicago. I would recommend stayimg away from a stuffed. It tasted like canned spaghetti sauce. Now acceptable is all that is expected by me. The chain places blow this out of the water. Next just fyi execpt for deep dish, and stuffed, or a place selling it by the slice. Stopped in for a quick bite. Only had 30 before a doctors appointment after work and I was starving. They sat me right away. Everything on the menu looked delicious but, since I was limited on time I settled on a bowl of Creamy Totilla Soup. It was so good. It had just enough kick without being too spicy. We had the pizza and pizza puff appetizer yesterday. The pizza puff is exactly the same thing that Uccellos has in the Grand Rapids area if anyone is familiar with that. The pizza was the best pizza in the Plainwell/Otsego area. In an area that Pizza Hut owns as far as pizza goes, it's nice to have somewhere else that isn't chain pizza. read more

I've been enjoying Salvino's make-your-own-pasta for years. On a recent visit, I chose to order the gluten-free pasta because I wanted to limit my gluten intake as I have been over-indulging during this holiday season. The gluten-free penne was nearly inedible. It was tough and chewy. I use gluten-free pasta at home and I know the quality. What Salvino's served me was not al dente, it was like chewy cardboard. The only thing saving the dish was the delicious meat sauce. My husband ordered make-your-own pasta as well with regular pasta and as usual, it was wonderful. We were shocked to see an up charge of $1.99 for my soup and $1.99 for his salad. A choice of soup or salad have always COME WITH pasta and were never an upcharge. Upon getting our bill, the waitress said they changed that rule a few months ago. We showed the waitress Salvino's website menu, which clearly indicated pasta comes with a choice of soup or salad. The waitress stated the website and the restaurant menus were not in sync. If the restaurant has taken away the soup or salad choice for pasta dishes, then the waitress SHOULD NOT have asked, "Would you like soup or salad?" We are always asked this question every time we eat at Salvino's, so the question was not out of the ordinary. What she should have asked is, "Would you like to add a soup or salad to your order." That would have been more clear that the restaurant is now charging for these sides. It should be noted that we have been dining at Salvino's for years and always do the make-your-own pasta, so we don't even look at the menu. I knew the gluten-free pasta would be an upcharge, but with the poor quality of the gluten-free pasta (with an upcharge of $3.00) and the surprise upcharge of $4.00 for our soup and salad (which we would NOT have ordered if we knew it was an upcharge), the final bill was a surprise and disappointment, especially since one of our three meals was very poor quality. read more

Stopped at Salvino's on Saturday afternoon with my fiancé. Service was very slow. The salad came out first. Dressing was supposed to be Caesar. Dressing was sweet definitely not Caesar. Food finally arrived. I ordered a vegetarian sub, nothing special, my fries tasted like fish. My fiancé ordered cheese tortellini, very bland. The sauce had no flavor. We will give them another try by ordering pizza. By the way don't order the ice tea, it wasn't very good. If you are craving Italian food drive passed Salvino's and go to Mancino's. read more

My husband and I were extremely disappointed. Usually we have a great experience at Salvinos. However, when we arrived tonight we were told 10 to 15 minute wait. We waited 25 minutes. My husband went to ask how much longer, and he was told an additional 20 to 25 minutes because the kitchen was backed up. Well they wouldn't have been backed up. If they would have stopped letting people sit at the bar and order food. We ended up leaving and going to a competitor who sat us immediately. If you're going to run your Monday pasta special, make sure you have adequate staff. It will be awhile before we give Salvinos in Plainwell our business. read more

Hit or miss--the walleye tasted like cardboard. Thank goodness there were only two small pieces. The lasagna, minestrone and garlic bread is always good. Chicken parmesan is always great. Ok, I do not write very many reviews but this is worth mentioning. First time I went there I ordered a Pizza and it was great. It was so great in fact that It made me feel bad that the prices were as high as they were because I could not afford to order here very often. Worst part is after I ate that pizza it made it hard to go to the other pizza places in town. I was not happy about the fact that the pizza wasn't very family friendly when it came to pricing. A good friend of mine recommended this place to me, so my husband and I drove in from South Portage to dine here. My first impression of this establishment was that the staff was friendly, the atmosphere lively, and the restaurant itself very clean. We were seated comfortably in a booth and greeted by one of the most energetic and friendly servers I've ever met. Nick C. did a fabulous job getting our drinks to us quickly, describing the evening's feature of a prime rib French dip (which tempting as it sounded, I did not order. Hopefully they'll have it again), and getting our dinner order in quickly. Our food came out faster than I anticipated, even though the place looked moderately busy. Our dinner was brought to us by the manager, who was very kind and eager to be of help. My blue cheese burger was fantastic and my husband thoroughly enjoyed his chicken parmigiana sandwich. Again, I'm going to praise Nick for being on point throughout dinner by checking on us, keeping our drinks full, and even clearing out some of the mess my 7 month old made. I love it when servers are happy and eager to wait on their guests! I can't wait to return to this establishment. It's worth the drive. read more
