Wow ....this restaurant was by far one of my favorites when visiting Stowe. Side note do not schedule a reservation on Yelp. You must call and give them at least two days advance or they will be booked up especially on the weekends. My party was lucky and was taken due to a cancellation. We are so happy we were bc all entrees were spectacular. The Salmon was good to perfection with a crispy skin. The risotto was unbelievable. The baked lasagna was heaven on a plate. Call ahead! We got lucky with our reservation. We had a resy for 8p but were seated at 7p since the table was still open. They have a lot to choose from. We had the fall salad with spinach, popa special pizza and pesto linguine. We were too stuffed for salad but the maple blondie sounded good! The restaurant was louder than expected. They have a bar where you can catch a game. They have a few booths and tables for a more romantic setting if you wish. It was too cold but their patio was cute too. I would add chicken to the pasta. This was the second time we have eaten here while vacationing in Stowe. The first time (3 years ago) not a single complaint. This time both my husband and myself ordered the Frutti Di Mare (he with pomodoro sauce and me with garlic sauce) they both came out like soup, so much to the point that the sauce didn't stick to the sauce, plenty of seafood which was good but for both the soup (sauce) lacked flavor. The service was excellent as was the ambiance. I am also not a fan of being asked if you would like the "special" Asiago bread and not mentioning that there is an up charge for it. Salute offers creative Italian fare for a high but not outrageous price. But our visit on a Sunday evening was disappointing. The wait staff was terrific- friendly, welcoming and attentive. The shortcoming is in the kitchen. Both our appetizer of eggplant rollatini and chicken saltimbocca came to the table cooked but not hot. One entree came to the table 5 minutes before the rest arrived. The kitchen is pushing out too many orders and therefore rushing out food which is not thoroughly heated or left standing before arriving at the table. read more

This spot came highly recommended all around and for our first visit to the area we knew we had to try it. We made reservations ahead of time and upon arrival it doesn't look like much but once you get to the entrance you are instantly charmed. It's unassuming old time charm hits the nail on the head for the area and ambiance. Service was consistently friendly and attentive although I do wish it had been a little warmer inside. As for the food we ordered the Fig & Prosciutto pesto crostini, ribeye and chicken Marsala. Both were equally tasty well sized portions. I've been visiting this place every year for over a decade. About 6 years ago the name was changed from Juniors to Salute. Same owner. It continues to operate at an intersection of "Salute...where everybody knows your name" And quality restaurant with reserve wine options. My shrimp fra diavalo and my wife's rigatoni bolognese both earned 5 stars for authentic Italian dishes. The reason for the lower than expected rating was the host/greeter/phone contact/waiter guy. Yes, he appeared to handle a lot of roles effectively, but he was TOO EFFICIENT. Swinging by our table frequently correctly seeing if he could do anything more for us. I called Salute on a busy night a couple of weeks before, and the gentleman was so nice to get us in. We couldn't have had a better experience. Our server Jen, although very busy, was accommodating and lovely. This isn't really a 5-star Italian place per say, but it was 5-stars to us because of our experience. We had the Eggplant Rollatini, which was rich and wholesome. The Chicken Piccatta was light with a wonderful lemon and caper sauce. We also ordered the sauteed spinach because we are vegetable people and were dying for some greens, which are hard to get sometimes when traveling. It was perfectly cooked and a generous portion. Then, because we were leaving the next day to drive down Rt. 100 to Woodstock and didn't know about the food situation, we ordered a pizza (Nona pizza) to eat for lunch. What a good call that was! Despite the heatwave we have been having lately, the evenings cool down as early as around 5:30 pm so dining al fresco was no problem. We ordered chilled white wine, which complemented our dinner perfectly. The balsamic vinegar and olive oil for dipping the bread were high quality and thus, delicious. The vegetarian stuffed mushrooms that were swimming in vegetable broth were delicious. My shrimp fra diavolo was absolutely delicious, especially the sauce. Got a spot at the bar on a busy night so was prepared for a wait. We waited what had to be an hour after ordering food to eating it, with no updates from the wait staff until I complained. Seemed like if you know the staff you're treated much better from interactions I observed. In a nicer Italian restaurant when they ask if you want Parmesan cheese they add it fresh. We sat and waited for our server for 15+ minutes, longer than we are used to waiting. I believe there were only 2 servers on and 2 bartenders for the whole restaurant so we were patient but it didn't make our experience amazing. Drinks and food came out quickly and they were good but not amazing, the highlight for me was the Saratoga olive oil for the bread.
