Highland cows just up the road at the lodge

As an Austrian American, this was a really cool spot to visit! The beer is great and so is the food. The bratwurst is legit - get it on the sandwich or on its own, it's delicious either way. The cheddar lager soup was also very yummy, as were the pretzels. They were having an extremely busy night on a holiday weekend so it was a little hard to get the attention of the bartenders, but understandable. Staff at the host stand seemed a little overwhelmed by all the visitors and as a result maybe weren't the friendliest. If I had to guess, there's probably a better overall vibe on a quieter night. We were lucky to grab a seat at the bar - you should know they only allow you to order off the food menu if you have a seat (so either put your name on the list, or hope for the best on a busy night). Beautiful property and a cool little slice of history.

This place was insanely busy, but we were aware of that coming in during a busy season. We luckily were able to snag a seat at the bar. Luka was amazing. He was friendly, efficient, and working nonstop. I got the cheese plate and my husband got the bratwurst, we both enjoyed our meals. Would not suggest coming here without a reservation unless it's just two people.

Perfect Spätzle!! Maple Lemonade was very good too! Several hour wait but we found spot at bar area ..

3 - Good choice if you're in the area. Skip to the end to see my rating scale. BLUF: if you're in the mood for German beer and food, I'd give a higher rating. I could even see trying to talk mama into driving an hour if I really had a taste for some schnitzel. So rating Von Trapp a high 3 is based on an average evening where you're not sure what you want for dinner. As I've alluded to, it's German themed as it was founded by the family around which the Sound of Music was written. Our server was fantastic. She was the right balance of helpful and fun without dominating our experience. The outdoor patio is dog friendly and it's an overall comfortable environment. Most importantly, the beers were good. (We sampled them all.) They were again all German style, so if you're looking for a couple of NEIPAs or ESBs to pick from you won't find one. If we're ever in Stowe again, I'd happily return to spend an evening. My rating scale: 1 - Just don't 2 - You'll survive, but there are better choices close by 3 - Good choice if you're in the area 4 - I'd drive 30 minutes out of my way just to come here 5 - I'd try to convince my wife to drive an hour just to come here

This place is a beautiful lodge-style bierhall with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, making it the perfect place to relax after a day of hiking. The servers were friendly and welcoming, and the food was excellent. The salmon with roasted vegetables and farro was the standout of the meal, and the zucchini fritters were superb. Great atmosphere, delicious food, and good beer. A highly recommend stopping when in Stowe!

My family and I came here for lunch during our recent visit to Stowe. My wife is a big fan of The Sound of Music, so visiting this bierhall was high on her list of places to try in Vermont. We had a 1:00pm. reservation, and when we arrived, the restaurant was packed. Despite how busy it was, we were seated promptly and requested a table outside, which made for a great dining experience. Our server took our drink orders, and my wife had a Dunkel while I ordered a Helles. Both beers were excellent. We placed our food order, and everything came out surprisingly fast. My youngest son ordered the burger with spaetzle, and my oldest had the mushroom stroganoff. They both finished their meals without a single complaint. My wife ordered the bratwurst sandwich with a side of spaetzle, and I had the chicken schnitzel. Everything was flavorful, well prepared, and satisfying. Overall, we had a great experience. Between the friendly service, the lively atmosphere, and the delicious food and beer, this is definitely a place I'd return to. The menu has plenty of items I'd love to try the next time we're back in Stowe.

Loved this historic brewery. The space is huge, with plenty of indoor seating, a beautiful sunroom filled with windows, and outdoor seating as well. It did feel like we were in The Sound of Music! The menu is on the smaller side and doesn't offer many dietary accommodations, but they were able to provide gluten-free crackers with the cheese plate. He even brought an extra serving of crackers for us. I also ordered an iceberg salad, which came with a generous amount of dressing. I do wish there had been a gluten-free beer or cider option available, as that would have made the experience even better. Overall, a really charming spot with great atmosphere and historic character.

Our first time coming to Stowe and it did not disappoint! This establishment was in our list to visit. My family and I came Memorial Day Weekend. At first, we tried to get reservations for Sunday evening but it didn't workout out. We tried again the following afternoon and were able to get a reservation for lunch. Staff was very friendly. Food was delicious and plentiful -- family style meal portions to share and there was a great selection of beer that we enjoyed. Loved the vibe of the place when we first walked in and loved reading up on the history of the Von Trapps. We are very much looking forward to our next trip up!

Exceptional Brewery, Exceptional Beer, Exceptional Food! The finest European beers is the USA! Gorgeous brew hall and restaurant. The food is 5 Star! The Charcuterie is "Top Tier" with all the finest meats, cheeses, olives, etc. The brats and the pork belly are phenomenal. Great care was taken to seat us and explain menu options. My Highest Recommendation!

Gorgeous beer garden

Stopped here on a gorgeous August day just as the sun was going down. The beer garden is absolutely spectacular and has the most gorgeous view. The beers are good. I'll have to come back and try the German fare.

Grilled Bratwurst Sandwich and potato salad

Delicious food, service, and ambiance! Reservations recommended. However, the bar seating is first come first serve with a full food menu.

Spacious, super nice surroundings and very high ceilings make for a great place to stop sample some beers and catch your breath from nearby hiking. My favorite: DUNKEL. You may get some inspiration to start yodeling while you are on the property....

The only thing I'll give them is their pretzel cheese.

The one star is for their pretzel cheese and that's it. Other than that It's a complete tourist money grab. Half of the beers were unavailable, the service was pretty crappy, the mushroom stroganoff was cold with barely any sauce, the drunken ribeye had zero seasoning and when we got our bill there were items on it we didn't order. Save your money and if you come here only do beer and pretzels.

This restaurant was quite busy. We arrived at 11:30 without a reservation. We were seated in 30 minutes. The food was delicious.

We waited about 15 minutes for a table. Not bad at all!! Our server was energetic and accommodating. She cheerfully answered all our questions and honored our request to get a margherita pizza as an appetizer. The aforementioned pizza arrived in no time. It was good. Not the best ever, but still quite solid. The star of the culinary show was the salmon entree. Both my wife and I got it and we both loved it. It was a big piece of wood fired salmon and came with a nice assortment of roasted veggies. I'm talking real veggies--zucchini, broccoli, fingerling potatoes, the works. Neither one of us are big drinkers, but there are LOTS of microbrews on tap if you're into that kind of thing. The dining room was lively without being too noisy. Both of us enjoyed hanging out there. It would be a great place to have a beer and watch baseball on TV. Will definitely return the next time I'm in town.

The poutine was very good, but I'll grant you that it's maybe hard to get that wrong - but their gravy is on point! Service was great - got there around 5:40pm on a Wednesday, so the wait was non-existent and a table for 5 was easy to accommodate. Duncan was the server, who disclosed that he was new but you wouldn't know it from how he took orders and brought food out. Even threw him a curve by asking for the steak frites with an additional side of brussel sprouts, which he handled no problem - even though there weren't any sides I saw on the menu. Steak was medium rare and perfectly seasoned, and I think I mentioned the chimichurri but it deserves additional mention. Maybe you're wondering about beverages. The maple lemonade is great - it leans harder on the tart side and there are sweeter options around (Cliff House) but I love a lemonade that tastes... lemony. Pineapple cherry punch was also a hit - but that's secondhand hearsay, unlike my direct opinion on the chimichurri - which I would drink if I could. Definitely check this place out. The table near ours seemed to immensely enjoy their meal and also get great service from Duncan.

The ambiance is rustic and charming, old time feel and the wood in the fireplace was crackling and giving off an amazing atmosphere and smell! We were seated by a friendly young lady who said it was her first night back from college on winter break, so she didn't know the extra specials they had, but that was A-OK! The waiter finally came and bless his heart, while nice, was a little nervous, uncertain and uncomfortable. We asked if they had sherry or Port--each time, he had to go back and check. We finally got some Porto (after he came back to the table with 2 options / bottles in hand--all things considered, the Port was great). We finally ordered the Truffled Hummus (nothing truffled about it, it looked and tasted like store-bought hummus). We actually knew the taste was not going to be great at all by the bread that first came out - old bread, just heated. And incredibly yeasty dough. Not good. The Seafood Fra Diablo was a joke - it had frozen small shrimp in it and the TINIEST scallops I have ever seen. See the pictures. My husband and I both had the salmon--the entire dish was incredibly oily. Overall for the quality and taste, the place was overpriced too. We skipped the desert and called it a night. 2 Stars because I think the fireplace was amazing and the Port and the clam chowder was really good. (I forgot to mention it earlier, but my friend did think it was delicious.) Will unfortunately not be returning, still--good Port and soup, and all. Edit: my friend who ordered the Fra Diablo dish has been sick since she had this meal. Terrible experience.
