I guess I'm the hater of the yelp world. I did not enjoy my experience here at all. The hostess was extremely off-putting and stared at me instead of greeting me and then acted confused when I said there were two of us. Asked if we had a reservation then told me it would be 30 minutes but there were at least 9 open tables? We decided to wait at the bar, the bartender ignored me for several minutes before finally asking what we wanted. Ordered a burger without mayo, came with it on there. I would have just sent it back but nobody checked on us at all. We flagged down a different bartender to get something else and my bf ate the burger. The beer was OK. As an Austrian American, this was a really cool spot to visit! The beer is great and so is the food. The bratwurst is legit - get it on the sandwich or on its own, it's delicious either way. The cheddar lager soup was also very yummy, as were the pretzels. They were having an extremely busy night on a holiday weekend so it was a little hard to get the attention of the bartenders, but understandable. Staff at the host stand seemed a little overwhelmed by all the visitors and as a result maybe weren't the friendliest. If I had to guess, there's probably a better overall vibe on a quieter night. We were lucky to grab a seat at the bar - you should know they only allow you to order off the food menu if you have a seat (so either put your name on the list, or hope for the best on a busy night). I could even see trying to talk mama into driving an hour if I really had a taste for some schnitzel. So rating Von Trapp a high 3 is based on an average evening where you're not sure what you want for dinner. As I've alluded to, it's German themed as it was founded by the family around which the Sound of Music was written. Our server was fantastic. She was the right balance of helpful and fun without dominating our experience. The outdoor patio is dog friendly and it's an overall comfortable environment. Most importantly, the beers were good. (We sampled them all.) They were again all German style, so if you're looking for a couple of NEIPAs or ESBs to pick from you won't find one. If we're ever in Stowe again, I'd happily return to spend an evening. My family and I came here for lunch during our recent visit to Stowe. My wife is a big fan of The Sound of Music, so visiting this bierhall was high on her list of places to try in Vermont. We had a 1:00pm. reservation, and when we arrived, the restaurant was packed. Despite how busy it was, we were seated promptly and requested a table outside, which made for a great dining experience. Our server took our drink orders, and my wife had a Dunkel while I ordered a Helles. Both beers were excellent. We placed our food order, and everything came out surprisingly fast. My youngest son ordered the burger with spaetzle, and my oldest had the mushroom stroganoff. They both finished their meals without a single complaint. My wife ordered the bratwurst sandwich with a side of spaetzle, and I had the chicken schnitzel. Everything was flavorful, well prepared, and satisfying. Overall, we had a great experience. Between the friendly service, the lively atmosphere, and the delicious food and beer, this is definitely a place I'd return to. Loved this historic brewery. The space is huge, with plenty of indoor seating, a beautiful sunroom filled with windows, and outdoor seating as well. It did feel like we were in The Sound of Music! The menu is on the smaller side and doesn't offer many dietary accommodations, but they were able to provide gluten-free crackers with the cheese plate. He even brought an extra serving of crackers for us. I also ordered an iceberg salad, which came with a generous amount of dressing. I do wish there had been a gluten-free beer or cider option available, as that would have made the experience even better. Our first time coming to Stowe and it did not disappoint! This establishment was in our list to visit. My family and I came Memorial Day Weekend. At first, we tried to get reservations for Sunday evening but it didn't workout out. We tried again the following afternoon and were able to get a reservation for lunch. Staff was very friendly. What a wonderful place to visit, drink beer, eat delicious food and enjoy time with the ones you love! The drive is worth it. Winding roads through woods up the mountain. Lots of parking was available and of course best time to go is off season. We had our choice of tables. Inside, out on the patio or in a sort of sunroom that's air conditioned. Our waitress was super friendly, professional and attentive to all our needs! We ordered a charcuterie board for starters and then a brat sampler with pork belly. All the food was delicious! We really enjoyed our stop to the scenic Von Trapp estate and brewery. The view of the Green Mountains must be seen to fully appreciate. The brewery had the German euro feel to it with very good beers and full food menu. Bratwurst, schnitzel, sausage, and pretzels available. Really enjoyed our meal here! This was our first stop upon arriving in Stowe on a snowy day, and it really was picturesque. The interior is open and spacious, but cozy. It has the perfect bier hall vibe. It was pretty quiet because it was an off time and due to the snow. I have been here when it's bustling. Service was friendly and fast. Their lagers are always great and pair perfectly with your food, whether you're having snacks or a meal. We shared a schnitzel style chicken sandwich with fries and fresh spatzle with roasted vegetables. We had a lot of great food on this trip, but this was one of my favorite meals. The chicken sandwich had great flavor and the chicken was crunchy without having too much breading. The fries were crisp and well seasoned. Maybe I'm a Sound of Music fangirl, but the only thing I ever knew about the town of Stowe is that the von Trapp family had a brewery there. I just kind of thought everyone knew this, but when I sent friends and family photos from the brewery, they were all surprised. So I'm here to tell you that Johannes von Trapp, the youngest and (as of 2025) last surviving child of Georg and Maria von Trapp, manages the Trapp family resort/brewery in Stowe, VT, where the family eventually settled in the 40s. Since we were staying in Burlington and had a free day, we decided to check out the brewery and Ben & Jerry's. The brewery is large and has lots of taxidermy to look at. The outdoor area was perfect for the sunny day. We each got a beer to try - I had the radler, which was less citrusy than I usually prefer, but refreshing. We didn't have any food, but it all sounded really delicious, with specialties like schnitzel, spaetzle, bratwurst, etc. They have a small gift shop that was full of some really cute items, and we all liked the logo - I was lucky enough to get some coasters as a free souvenir. So happy to have checked this one off my list. read more

Lovely restaurant with quality food. We were seated in the solarium which gave us a nice view of outside. The food was excellent. Everything was expertly prepared and perfectly seasoned. They have a terrific selection of beers and a few wines. Our waitress was missing in action for a period of time but I think they were understaffed. She was fabulous when we had her attention and we weren't left without anything for too long. We began with their pretzels. The two were gone in seconds. We also ordered the following: Deer Braised Pull Pork, Johannesburger, Grilled Bratwurst Sandwich, and Chicken Fingers. 3.5 stars. Our family of 6 made reservations and were seated about 15 minutes after our booked time. The setting is absolutely beautiful, both inside and out, and the views really do make you feel like you've stepped into a Sound of Music scene. We chose to sit outside on a perfect summer evening. We ordered a mix of dishes including a pretzel appetizer, kids burgers, salmon, bratwurst, chicken schnitzel, and apfelstrudel for dessert. Everything was fine overall, but not particularly memorable. As someone who grew up in Europe and has had schnitzel many many times in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, I was excited to try it here. I was a bit surprised and disappointed it wasn't served with fries, boiled or mashed potatoes (like it traditionally is served in Europe), but instead came over a mountain of sauerkraut with a fried egg and lingonberry dressing. Service, food, and drinks were all fine at best, but the real standout is definitely the setting. I'd come back, but more for drinks and appetizers , not a full meal read more

Despite MANY empty tables, we had to wait until the time of our reservation. I think it's to stagger seating for the kitchen & waitstaff? But it was a bit weird... The pretzel appetizer was disappointing- they were out of pub cheese and the pretzels were a little overcooked and did not have enough salt. The mains made up for it though. Everything was seasoned fantastically - the fries, schnitzel, spaetzle & chicken fingers. The schnitzel was super thin & crisp. Kids' chicken fingers were great - really good sized portion and the chicken was super crispy on the outside, but moist on the inside. Service overall is not amazing - it all seemed disorganized. The trash in both bathrooms was overflowing, and the men's room was out of toilet paper and soap. I wouldn't rush back, but the outside ambiance seemed nice - live music and great views. read more

The last time I came to Vermont the brewery was just opening so we had only taken a tour of it but now we have the whole bierhall! So cool! My family has a share of the guest houses at Trapp so we decided to come to the hall for dinner and trivia on Thursday night. Omg we had the best time!! Not only did we win but we had a great meal. Our friends enjoyed the wine and beer offerings and they had a black bean burger and a few other vegetarian options for us. The food was ok but you're really paying for the ambiance and environment I think. The pretzel with the mustards was the best!
