Meh. This is my third time and likely my last. We ordered the cheddar fritters which were very good but the only good thing we ate. We both ordered beers which were good enough. The fish and chips served in a bowl were soggy, I ended up eating the fish out of the batter and left the soggy batter behind. The fries were also soggy bc of the way they decided to plate this dish. The server didn't ask / offer ketchup until we were already half way done eating. I had to ask for an extra plate just to put my ketchup on bc of the bowl format of this dish. (No mention or sight of any malt vinegar either) My bf said the burger was "okay." He wouldn't order it again. Just not worth the $80 bill for me. Disappointed to say the least. Came for dinner on a Wednesday evening and had a nice dining experience. Parking in their lot was easy and we were able to walk in and get a table. Workers were all friendly. Inside is large with many different areas to sit in the original area, the bar, outside seating for warmer days and another back area. Inside is cute with a nice atmosphere. The menu has a variety of soups, salads, sandwiches and other entrees. My fork did have a little bit of food debris on it. We ordered the Vermont cheddar fritters and the herb-grilled chicken sandwich. I was starving when I came so this really filed me up! The fritters were crispy and delicious. In the center of Stowe with plenty around if you're in town looking for a meal. I came here in the evening, midweek, during the offseason, and there was no wait. The hostess was friendly and quick to seat. The waitress was helpful in making selections and food came out really quick! I was in and out of the place within an hour but 30 minutes of that was relaxing after the meal enjoying a beer. On the food front the soup of the day hit the spot after a wet and rainy hike followed by some wings. The beer was good, I went with the Cloudsplitter IPA. The flight of draft was generous side pours and represented a diverse range of their options. Staff was very friendly and detail-oriented. The decor is beautiful throughout the several sections. One section was cozy, dark on feel. Another was a large fireplace and vintage style bar and the rest was an open, airy, greenhouse reminiscent dining room. I came here two years and despite some changes to the restaurant and menu, the consistent quality remains. This time I split a few different dishes with my party including the Caesar salad, the notch burger, and the fish and chips. I also had the mango mojito mocktail which had a really nice touch of ginger and good sparkle to it. We polished it all off with a shared chocolate cake giant slice. The Caesar and the fish and chips were our favorites. The homemade dressing and non-hairy type of anchovies were great and the portion was nice. The fish batter was light and there were plenty of tasty fries, although I would have liked one more fish (it came as two medium pieces). The burger was good, not exceptional, but solid. The cake was rich but a little boring. The outside seating, with the right weather, is delightful. It was too busy for us even at 5:30 (we did not have a reservation and it was father's day) to get a seat so we sat inside where it wasn't busy. Service was great and food came out quickly. we happen upon this place when we were in stowe. They have great outdoor and indoor seating with nice weather. They do have a parking lot, it gets very packed but I think they have parking across the street or next-door. I'm not sure. We got seated right away in a really nice table. Our service was amazing! The food was good. We had a really good appetizers. I forgot the name, but it was a fried ball of deliciousness. My daughter liked her chicken. I ended up getting a salad which I really shouldn't have gotten, and I wasn't the biggest fan of it. It was OK I forgot the name of it but overall I would get something off their menu, not salad. We have been regulars at Idletyme for years. The current management is really bad. The menu has many changes most of which are not positive. Many of their great wait staff have left for other work. Even their fantastic brewmaster has left for another gig. The new staff members have no idea what good service means. We visited during the day on a weekday. The place was surprisingly busy! We just opted for a seat at the bar because we wanted to try their beer while we were visiting Stowe for a long weekend. The bartender was very very friendly and recommended some great Idletyme beers based off of our usual preferences. My boyfriend can never help himself when there is a soft pretzel on the menu at a brewery, so we ordered the appetizer to snack on while we had some beers. Most people were sat outside the night we came but was a little too chilly for us, we sat in a basically empty dining room. I got the grain bowl with chicken which was delicious, I didn't think I'd be able to manage it all but I did! Only complaint was the carrots were basically raw not roasted as stated on menu. For starters if you're from the south, don't even bother looking for sweet tea and if you want tea, be sure to ask for "iced tea" otherwise you'll end up with hot tea. While I would prefer sweet tea, this was the best unsweet tea that I've ever had. The tea flavor itself was so good The restaurant was really packed and they weren't taking anymore walk-ins when we arrived so we were given the option to sit at one of the two bars. The food smelled good and we were hungry so we took them up on the offer and sat at the bar. I ordered the Vermont Cheddar Mac & Cheese and he got the Atlantic Cod Fish & Chops. I could have added pulled pork or smoked bacon but chose not to. It was delicious and the pasta was cooked al dente. His 3 star rating was because he wasn't exactly pleased with the fish. Come for the Fish, Skip the Fries We went to this restaurant thinking it would be a solid choice--the menu looked promising, and the vibe outside was good. The fish portion of the fish & chips turned out to be excellent. Honestly, some of the best I've had anywhere: scalding hot, perfectly crisp, and full of flavor. My wife's baked chicken, on the other hand, was fine--just fine. The kind of meal you forget about as soon as you leave. Beer selection was strong, and the patio was buzzing, though the inside was oddly empty, almost eerily so. But here's where the whole thing went downhill: the fries. I specifically asked if I could get fresh ones, not the ones that had been sitting under a heat lamp. The waiter hedged, first saying yes, then backing off with a vague "I can't guarantee" excuse, even though the place was only about a third full. Sure enough, when the food came, the fries were the dreaded heat-lamp variety. Lukewarm, limp, and tasting like an afterthought. Meanwhile, both my fish and my wife's chicken were steaming hot, which tells me fries here are cooked in giant batches, dumped in a holding bin, and left there until someone orders them. That's lazy food prep, plain and simple. They might as well just serve potato chips and be honest about it. In the end, the restaurant left me with two big disappointments: 1. A non-busy waiter who wouldn't commit to a simple request. 2. A kitchen that treats fries like filler instead of food. It's a shame, because the fish alone was five-star quality. If they matched that care with the rest of the plate and service, this would be an easy four-star spot. As it stands, it's more like a two-and-a-half, saved only by one excellent piece of fish. Needless to say, the tip suffered. Note to servers: Great tips typically follow great service (and food). I usually tip 20% if it's good, 25% when great, and 30% for terrific. For example, the waiter at Piecasso earned a 30% tip, while the waiter at Idletyme earned 15%. read more

Idletyme - We have been coming here since they first opened. It's our go-to spot for all seasons. We love the summer, sitting outside and enjoying a great meal. Our waiter Corey H was awesome. Both friendly and attentive. Everything was as good as expected. One thing I must say, we were truly disappointed with the interior rebranding. It's now cold and uninviting. Which is surprising, the décor before and seating were great. At this time I think this will now only be a summer spot where you can enjoy the outside. As a note - if they had more tilting umbrellas they would seat folks more. We saw a few tables where people came and didn't stay because the umbrella didn't provide shade.
