We visited during the day on a weekday. The place was surprisingly busy! We just opted for a seat at the bar because we wanted to try their beer while we were visiting Stowe for a long weekend. The bartender was very very friendly and recommended some great Idletyme beers based off of our usual preferences. My boyfriend can never help himself when there is a soft pretzel on the menu at a brewery, so we ordered the appetizer to snack on while we had some beers. Everything was very good and it was a great, cozy atmosphere! I definitely recommend a stop at Idletyme! read more

Food was good. Our server was atrocious, should have spoken to the manager about her. Most people were sat outside the night we came but was a little too chilly for us, we sat in a basically empty dining room. The server was obviously having to juggle indoor and outdoor tables, I don't think she was weeded but just didn't care about us. The lady dining next to us she was a lot nicer too. I got the grain bowl with chicken which was delicious, I didn't think I'd be able to manage it all but I did! Only complaint was the carrots were basically raw not roasted as stated on menu. It was a nice restaurant and I would have gone back the next night but our server was so rude. We hadn't really seen her while dining, she hadn't introduced herself. It was when it became time to pay, and she began to mutter words under her breath, that hammered the nail in the coffin for the terrible service. During our meal as well our server and another began to do their closing duties and were soo noisy picking silverware off the tables, not a nice atmosphere to dine. read more

We had the dogs with us so we hung out on their dog friendly patio. The patio was huge and had plenty of Adirondack chairs and fire pits. The beer was great and so were the pretzel sticks. I could have eaten 3 more orders of them. I also had the notch burger - the caramelized onion jam and roasted jalapeno aioli enticed me. Everything about this burger was perfect. Overall great experience and great service. read more

Love this place it is a staple whenever we come up here. Laura was an awesome waitress took good care of us, the one bartender with the beard is an always so nice to us and gave our dog a bowl of water on a hot day. Only critique is bring back the poutine! read more

We visited around 8 pm on Friday night and the place was busy. We were seated right away, but at the table closest to the door. Unfortunately every time the door opened, we got blasted with cold air. The server was very friendly and attentive, our burgers were excellent and the Oktoberfest beer was great. I only wish we were able to stay and try some more of their beers, there were several that sounded great. read more

Came in on a summer afternoon on a Monday. Not busy at all. Got a table for 12 immediately. Service was great. Separated our checks without an issue. Fried pickles spears and Caesar salad were both delicious. Great selection of beers. Great outdoor bar and patio. Separate dining room and bar area. read more

I had so much fun here! All of the staff working were extremely friendly. It just happened to be the day of their Oktoberfest celebration and they had lots of swag and food specials! The atmosphere was fun and upbeat, with lots of festive decor. My husband and I both enjoyed the beer flights we ordered. For food, I ordered the Flower Child black bean burger which was delicious. My husband ordered the Pub burger which was also yummy. I can't wait to come back here one day! read more

I give this place a 5 star for the ambiance, food and service and he gives it a 3. For starters if you're from the south, don't even bother looking for sweet tea and if you want tea, be sure to ask for "iced tea" otherwise you'll end up with hot tea. While I would prefer sweet tea, this was the best unsweet tea that I've ever had. The tea flavor itself was so good The restaurant was really packed and they weren't taking anymore walk-ins when we arrived so we were given the option to sit at one of the two bars. The food smelled good and we were hungry so we took them up on the offer and sat at the bar. I ordered the Vermont Cheddar Mac & Cheese and he got the Atlantic Cod Fish & Chops. I could have added pulled pork or smoked bacon but chose not to. It was delicious and the pasta was cooked al dente. His 3 star rating was because he wasn't exactly pleased with the fish. There was more breading than actual fish and it was too greasy for his liking. Also the fries were underneath the fish and absorbed a lot of the grease. read more

Idletyme is a must stop for us every time we are in Stowe, especially when we drive in for the British Invasion Car Show each year. It is our favorite place to dine in Stowe. This year when we arrived for lunch on Friday, Sept 17th, we got there right as they were no longer taking people as they had to prep for an event that had privately booked the entire venue. We were so disappointed that we missed it and I think the lovely Aysenur knew it from the looks on our faces. She asked if we would be ok sitting at the outside bar and they would still be able to serve us food. We were so happy that she figured out a way particularly since we had just driven 3 hours to have lunch in our favorite spot. I should add that we completely understood why they had to stop taking customers due to the event. We then went back for dinner on Saturday, 9/18. They were packed and while it did not look like we would be able to be seated for a bit, Aysenur again figured out a way to seat us and the couple in front of us. All of this is to say how much we appreciate what she did, how professional and friendly the entire staff is and has always been, the outstanding food, and a wonderful atmosphere for dining. Thank you to Aysenur and the entire staff. In today's day and age, this kind of customer care is very special. Keep up the great work. read more

Come for the Fish, Skip the Fries We went to this restaurant thinking it would be a solid choice--the menu looked promising, and the vibe outside was good. The fish portion of the fish & chips turned out to be excellent. Honestly, some of the best I've had anywhere: scalding hot, perfectly crisp, and full of flavor. My wife's baked chicken, on the other hand, was fine--just fine. The kind of meal you forget about as soon as you leave. Beer selection was strong, and the patio was buzzing, though the inside was oddly empty, almost eerily so. But here's where the whole thing went downhill: the fries. I specifically asked if I could get fresh ones, not the ones that had been sitting under a heat lamp. The waiter hedged, first saying yes, then backing off with a vague "I can't guarantee" excuse, even though the place was only about a third full. Sure enough, when the food came, the fries were the dreaded heat-lamp variety. Lukewarm, limp, and tasting like an afterthought. Meanwhile, both my fish and my wife's chicken were steaming hot, which tells me fries here are cooked in giant batches, dumped in a holding bin, and left there until someone orders them. That's lazy food prep, plain and simple. They might as well just serve potato chips and be honest about it. In the end, the restaurant left me with two big disappointments: 1. A non-busy waiter who wouldn't commit to a simple request. 2. A kitchen that treats fries like filler instead of food. It's a shame, because the fish alone was five-star quality. If they matched that care with the rest of the plate and service, this would be an easy four-star spot. As it stands, it's more like a two-and-a-half, saved only by one excellent piece of fish. Needless to say, the tip suffered. Note to servers: Great tips typically follow great service (and food). I usually tip 20% if it's good, 25% when great, and 30% for terrific. For example, the waiter at Piecasso earned a 30% tip, while the waiter at Idletyme earned 15%. read more

Idletyme - We have been coming here since they first opened. It's our go-to spot for all seasons. We love the summer, sitting outside and enjoying a great meal. Our waiter Corey H was awesome. Both friendly and attentive. Everything was as good as expected. One thing I must say, we were truly disappointed with the interior rebranding. It's now cold and uninviting. Which is surprising, the décor before and seating were great. At this time I think this will now only be a summer spot where you can enjoy the outside. As a note - if they had more tilting umbrellas they would seat folks more. We saw a few tables where people came and didn't stay because the umbrella didn't provide shade. We do love this place but sad to see it going downhill. read more

Stopped in after a day skiing for a quick drink. They were packed but managed to get us a table for just drinks which was great. They have an extensive drink and food menu, which I would love to come back and try as every table around us that had food looked fantastic. Our drinks were great and reasonably priced. The inside is very clean a rustic farmhouse vibe with great energy. Parking is located on site and can get icey at times. They have an outdoor area in the back with fire pits which are great for colder nights. read more

I really enjoyed my gnocchi, it had a slight crunch to it and the sweet potato puree had good flavor. Although I asked to have it with a different vegetable instead of mushrooms, but they said it was too busy on a Friday night for that kind of customization. I ended up getting the broccolini side, which was good. Burger was okay, Caesar was good... the pretzel croutons were nice and crunchy read more

Never gave this place much of a thought despite driving by many times. Checked their menu and decided to try dinner. Service was immediate and friendly. Food was delicious, we had fish and chips, chili, and chicken caesar salad. Definitely a new favorite go to! read more

Great aesthetic but food is lacking. Mac and cheese was totally bland. Short rib had a nice presentation but flavor was lacking. We had the flight of beer and they were fine. Pretzel was just ok as well. Would try it again in the chance we caught them on an off night. read more

Stopped here after checking out some shops on Main Street. We had a reservation for 8pm, but since they closed at 9 we went in 15 min early and were able to be seated right away. They had a decent beer selection, and a lot of food options. I wasn't super hungry so I got a French Onion soup (delicious) and a Caesar salad with no protein added. My fiance got steak frites. The steak must have been good because he devoured it before I could have a bite. I did have some of the fries and they were really delicious. Soft, and seasoned beyond typical salt. I also bought a T-shirt from their merch area. read more

Idletyme - French Onion soup. Delicious! - American Near Me - Stowe, Vermont

Pretzel bread- oiled and salted soft bread cooked like a pretzel. Didn't really taste like a soft pretzel, not much bite, not much chew to it. Nothing like a Philly soft pretzel, and not as good as the pretzel up the street at Von Trapp. Only thing good was the mustard sauce. Mountain Road Grain Bowl- the salad flavors didn't go well together. Too sweet. Would benefit from onion or fennel to balance out the flavors. Carrots weren't roasted enough, they only tasted partially cooked and stale, dry and rubbery on the outside, cold and dry on the inside. Steak Frites- they cut up the steak into strips and grilled it. Then served it that way, smothered in sauce. There was no way to taste the steak for what it was, without all the sauces. There was no way to get a bite of steak, medium rare. They ended up cooking it all well done. This is not the French way to serve steak. Fish and chips: fish is fine. Cole slaw too sweet and too much vinegar. Service: nonexistent but with a smile. Eg Hostess- big smile when she tells us she can seat us. I asked her to give us water. None arrived. No waiter around. Finally we had to ask the woman bussing tables for water. Waiter who takes our order has a big smile and is friendly, but the food is brought without any of the necessary condiments - no vinegar for the fish and chips, no ketchup for the fries, no salt and pepper for any of the food. No, forethought or anticipation of our needs. No refills of water. No asking for honest feedback about how the food actually tasted. Just checking to see if everything is fine but not waiting around or showing me body language that he actually wants to hear feedback. We would not recommend this restaurant to anyone and will be going back to Von Trapp for the rest of the week we're here. Ambiance outside is nice, inside not so much. Flies buzzing around, tables not set with forks but only knives, candle was out on our table. Felt like hostess didn't care. In-n-out fast food provides better service than this dine-in restaurant. read more

my notes: "a little lonely, a little pricey" The beer here is solid and very well-done. The style of brewing trends a little more towards the "traditional". Service was pretty good too, the seating was just odd. We must've just barely missed the outside seating window, so we sat indoors in a cavernous room all by ourselves. The food was above average but the prices were VERY above average. read more

Blah blah blah, the Pilsner with Italian pils was to die for. I am very particular about having classic or quality or thought-provoking brew, rarely all of thee above; that was the best pils of any country I've had. Could be the mountain water who knows. In the exposed ceiling above the bar I saw a recovery heat exchanger which is not typical, engineer/environmental nerd brain that no one else would notice. Anyway, I'm sure the food is decent as well. Prost! read more

one of the best restaurant veggie burgers I've ever had, and great mocktail options. we also ordered the pretzel bread which thankfully came out instantly because we were starving. our server was super friendly and laughed with us about the difficult hike we had done that day and recommended another one to us. we sat inside because we were cold, but the outdoor space was gorgeous and looked like way more fun. read more

We came here with no expectations and were pleasantly surprised. The outdoor experience was great. We were seated right away with our little dog. Plenty of scenery and activity. We had to get as many "Vermont" items as we could while we were in VT, so we got the maple lemonade and maple Manhattan to start. I had the idletyme burger which was HUGE. It had a cheddar fritter in it, but it didn't taste like much, just added some crunch factor. The burger itself was cooked a perfect medium and was juicy and delish (4/5). My bf got the shaved prime rib sandwich (3/5) with onion rings. Sando was ok, onion rings very good (4/5) Came here a second time for dinner with the coworkers and got: - Vermont cheddar fritters: So good! These are a must get! Melty goodness with a crunchy coat. 5/5 - Blackberry salad: Lightly dressed and delicious. 4/5 - Pub steak: the most expensive thing on the menu isn't always the best thing. The steak was stringy and tough, although it was cooked medium rare as requested. Some of the bites we actually had to spit out it was so tough. 1/5 The indoor area is super cute and we even sat on the couch with a cowhide baseboard (which proved to be super poky and itchy if you moved the wrong way). They have a really nice and big outdoor area complete with a fire pit and umbrellas. The takeaway: get the Vermont cheddar fritters and the onion rings! Don't touch the steak with a ten foot pole. Overall: 3.75 read more

The restaurant has a very pleasant ambiance, with plenty of natural light indoors and a charming outdoor dining area as well. Our waitress was absolutely first-class--warm, attentive, and all smiles, even though she was clearly juggling a busy shift. The food and beer are wonderful, but we don't go to Idletyme in cold weather. The indoor chairs are sooooo uncomfortable. We'll wait for warm weather before we go back. The mediocre rating is due to the difference between a winter 1 and a summer 5. read more

A delightful restaurant with a good brewery attached! We came for dinner but arrived before our reservation, so we tried a flight of beer. I think the Heff was great, my wife loved the peach ale... Dinner was exceptional. I has the swordfish with cilantro and charred pineapple salsa... an excellent meal. My wife had the roasted half chicken, which was also excellent, with just a bit of maple. Her Yukon gold mashed potatoes were perfectly seasoned.... They were as good as it gets in my book. We split a wedge salad which was HUGE! And delicious... definitely a meal for two. We topped it off with a nice bottle of wine. Our waitress, Shannon, was a pleasure. Attentive, conversational, not overbearing... we left her a 50% plus's tip. The vibe at this restaurant is very cool, food is great and location is perfect. The best part about our experience though was our bartender/server Brandon was truly on top of his sh$&! We happened to stop in for lunch on what was essentially the busiest weekend of the year for them, peak foliage tourism, a fall festival and a crazy line of nonstop people. You wouldn't know it by watching this guy work! He owned the service at the bar. He worked smart, clean and organized!
