The duck confit salad was so salty it was almost inedible. The beet salad had probably half a beet total and maybe half a strawberry in thin slices, let's not forget tiny pieces of mint and some bland schmear (creamy something) underneath it all. I don't recommend it. read more

Definitely not worth the cost. Service is horrific, food is better at the Subway next door. Went there at 4 (when it opens) and was told by rude waiter that menu is served at 5. What are they waiting for in this town, that some gold digger might come in (that's what you need, real gold, to pay their prices)? Had some of their "bar food", "puke food" would be the better description. Heard the Indian place next door is much better. It just ruins the whole atmosphere / appetite with a "no" atmosphere by the staff, no matter how good (in this case it wasn't) the good might be. Just a horrific experience. Too bad, guess my $'s will go somewhere else. The place was empty and like people say "it's so popular, people don't go there anymore". read more

After reading glowing reviews online, I made reservations for a party of 10 for dinner. The steaks were excellent, the seafood dishes were cold, we had to ask for drinks refills, the 2 side items we ordered were never delivered, no one opted to return the cold food because it had taken so long to get our food to start with so they ate it cold. The manger took $5.00 off of the bill as a courtesy for crappy service and cold food. They left the full tip on. Skip this place! read more

A little pricey, but worth it! We had the prawns and Brussels sprouts as appetizers, and then I had the halibut chowder and my wife had the crispy halibut bites and the French onion soup. Everything was fresh and excellent, and I'm not even usually a chowder fan. Attentive service, good cocktails. read more

This was a fantastic place for our anniversary dinner before embarking on a trip. Wonderful attentive service, quiet/cool atmosphere, top notch drinks, apps and entrees (we had seafood and steak). Would definitely recommend for a special occasion. read more

Come here before the Hangar for sure. Food is good and prices are reasonable despite the upscale ambiance.

More like 3.5. Can here for late night happy hour and food was simply ok. Between the three of us we had everything in the happy hour menu. Nothing stood out. If I ever return, I will definitely order of the main menu. Salt carries a hipster vibe which separates itself from the other downtown restaurants. Not sure how I feel about that. read more

My husband and I came up there for an anniversary dinner mid August. We had been before for happy hour, which has been pretty good, but a little pricey. The hostess was great and friendly. We sat down and ordered a bottle of (not cheap) champagne. When the waitress brought the bottle, she walked up to the table with it in her hand and then couldn't open it. She walked back into the hallway, popped it audibly, and then brought it back to us. She poured two glasses and then set it on the table. No chiller, no napkin. We poured the champagne ourselves the rest of the night. We were one of two tables upstairs until the very end of our meal. The waitress let us know that there was a scallop special, "light, Alaskan seared scallops in garlic and butter with a little aioli". My husband did the scallops, I got the steak. We had the cured meats and cheeses plate. Our appetizer was excellent- good warm bread and a nice selection of pate and cheeses. My steak was cooked perfect. The problem came to the scallop dish. It was a cold dish with cabbage and apricots. The aioli was a lump of mayonnaise plopped into the bowl. The scallops were rubbery. My husband had me try it just to make sure. When the waitress came back, we let her know it was gross. She apologised "I'm sorry you didn't like it", and took it away. While she was very friendly about it, it still was on our bill when the check came. I think she saw the looks on our faces because she came back over, apologised again and let us know that she meant to do something about the scallops. She brought the bill back with 50% off the plate. At $36, half of that was still too much for the two bites of a dish she poorly described. After reading some of the other reviews, it looks like the chef was out of town. And while that may excuse the scallops for the evening, the poor training for the waitress was pretty inexcusable for the price points at Salt. We won't be back for dinner. read more

I hosted a dinner for 19 clients upstairs and it couldn't have gone any better. Our waitress was spot on. Every special order was met. No complaints. read more

Super noisy due to hard floors, ceilings, tables and walls. Could not have a conversation at our table. Decor is attractive. Food is ok. Would not recommend. read more

I've had dinner there numerous times and the food is almost always good. However, the service is typically slow and lacking in attention. I had dinner there on a couple nights ago with six other people at our table. It was a slow night for the restaurant as there were only three other tables of three people each but it still took us 1 hr and 45 minutes to get our meals. It took almost 15 minutes just to get our wine poured. VERY poor service! read more

I would have loved to give this place 5 stars but unfortunately their service didn't live up to how good their food is. We were taking friends out for their 10th anniversary and so I called ahead to arrange something special. The lady I talked to on the phone said that they do a special appetizer for anniversaries so I agreed to that. When I arrived and checked in for the reservation I made sure that there was a note regarding the occasion. I was told yes, it's taken care of. Despite all of that checking, nothing happened. We didn't receive the special appetizer, nothing was said. When I got home I called and spoke to the manager about the issue. He took responsibility for the miss, saying that by the time he realized it, it was too late to do anything. He did apologize, but considering the amount of money we spent tonight, it would have been nice to have been offered some compensation. The food was superb. However, though the staff is very friendly, service is hit and miss. I feel as though this restaurant could be so much more, the kitchen side of things definitely has it together, hopefully the house side will catch up. read more

Such a delicious meal! And the bartender and wait staff are so kind and friendly I couldn't ask for a better time! Try the scallops and polenta and savor - it's just so good read more

I tried 3 appetizers and 3 entrees when my group went to the restaurant. I enjoyed all of them. The presentation was good and the food well cooked. read more

Nice interior. I ordered the special "white" King salmon entree' and a bowl of crab bisque. Both were excellent. Some of the servers/hostess were kind of odd but very helpful. It was pouring down rain all that day and that makes people act strange I guess. Overall good experience and the food tasted like it had been prepared by an artist in the kitchen. When I first tried the salmon, I requested some salt. After digging into the whole dish, it opened up the flavors and was salted perfectly to my taste after all. So none needed. Bisque was outstanding. No desserts ordered and all three of us were well fed and happy. 5 stars from me. Hard to do in Juneau. read more

No visit to Juneau is complete without a visit to SALT, the new contemporary restaurant downtown. I recently had several meals there and each was superb. The King Salmon was the best I've experienced (and I've spent many months in Salmon happy Norway). The entire menu is well thought out, and the beer and spirit options have something for everyone. The décor is sophisticated casual with upstairs dining available. It was busy every night I was there including early in the week with mostly locals, a great sign of a thriving restaurant. A perfect day in Juneau - a fun lunch outside at Tracy's Crab Shack and a world-class dinner at SALT. read more

I grew up in Juneau, moved away 28 years ago. I returned for a visit in April 2016, first time since 2011. Salt was new to me and a small group of family/friends went in for cocktails on a Saturday afternoon/evening. Very nice establishment, it didn't feel like I was in Juneau when inside, that is until we struck up a conversation with Tracey, the Bartender. Tracey was awesome, her drinks were excellent and she was so friendly. My sister and I started talking about how we grew up in Juneau and it turns out that Tracey's family purchased our family home in the mid 80's from our parents. Tracey was wonderful and she never missed a mark while she conversed with us - a true sign of her being great at her job, she made us feel welcome and her service was excellent! Unfortunately, I cannot comment on the food as we didn't order food. read more

Fabulous food, friendly wait staff. Gets crowded early so if you don't have a reservation, get there early. You won't be disappointed. Best calamari I've ever had. read more

I haven't had one meal at salt that I wasn't pleased with. I do miss a few of their menu items that were taken off recently. The chef is a genius. The seafood is fantastic and comes from their own seafood company. The quality of the food is outstanding and every dish is thoughtfully crafted. I wish they would bring back the cheese board appetizer. It made for a fun date with the husband, just nibbling and drinking wine before our main course. I'm not a huge fan of the green sauce that comes with the calamari, that's about my only complaint. I've been tempted to smuggle my own aioli in to accompany the dish. Other than that, everything is fantastic. read more

Got to this place after a day long hike and sightseeing near Juneau as a shore excursion of our cruise. Nice ambiance and setting. The greeter was nice and arranged us to get going at the bar while waiting for a table. Local beers on tap were good. Appetizers - fried oysters were good, calamari was good - salmon balls were horrible (tasteless and had bones) - bisque was OK. Main course: we ordered 3 halibuts and an Alaskan salmon - the signature dishes. Halibuts came all different sizes - cooked & tasted OK- but were accompanied with butter sauteed mushrooms that were saltier than hell - and were on a bed of a sweet berry sauce that did nothing for the halibut. The Salmon was a complete letdown - to the point we asked to verify it was wild (not farmed) although one can cook even farmed salmon to be tasty if one knew how to. We let the server know that we are from Seattle and one can get better salmon than this at pretty much any place in Seattle. She told us it was taken out of the check but was simply discounted 25% - not the same thing. Dessert - brownie and vanilla ice cream was good, coffee was good. Not a place we'd go back to or recommend to any of our friends :( We really wanted to like this place - alas... read more

Went there on Tuesday, September 7, 2016. Server was great; kitchen and runners not so good. Crab Bisque was excellent. Didn't care all that much for the truffle fries. Wife and I each ordered the salmon meatballs. Her order came out first, which was a bit cold. Mine for some reason came later. Ironically, being that the place is named SALT, they were desperately in need of salt. I also ordered the side of scallops, which were supposed to be seared. They were cold. Wife ordered the stacked brownie for dessert, I ordered the crème brulee. She got her brownie; about five minutes later I got my crème brulee. read more

Excellent meal. Delicious French influenced Alaska cuisine. Would give it a five-star but our server was not the warmest, even though the atmosphere in general was and the service was fine. Surprise find in Juneau. Would be twice the price in Seattle. read more

I had the king salmon. I was worried that it would be overcooked, but it was prepared perfectly. Kudos to the kitchen to getting this done correctly. read more

First time in Alaska and hadn't had much luck with good food. We walked by Salt and the menu posted outside for lunch looked amazing: something other than bar food, sandwiches, typical seafood. We stepped in wearing full raingear and hiking boots and reserved a table for 8PM. Our hike took longer than expected and we called at 7:30 to say we would not make our 8:00 res and they said, no problem, we'll hold your table. I expected that they weren't busy and it wasn't a big deal. When we finally arrived at 8:45, the place was hoppin! They couldn't have been nicer and showed us to our six top table. Bisque was fantastic as was house salad. Two folks ordered salmon, also amazing, though the portion was small. We had two ten year olds and the menu was a bit fancy for them, but they were super accommodating and made a simple grilled chicken breast and vegetables that they brought out first. The only negative about the evening was the way food and drinks came out. Service was super attentive by waitstaff(filling water and removing dirty dishes and bringing new utensils) but our salads and soup had been eaten before our two glasses of wine arrived. The two salmon eaters had their food for at least 5 minutes before my halibut arrived and it was another 5 minutes more before the crab legs arrived. We will definitely return and considered eating there several days later before returning home but were too tired to make the trek. Super nice host during the day and gal in the evening and excellent wait staff!! read more

We went to Salt for Mother's Day brunch, and like so many other dining experiences in Juneau, it was overpriced mediocrity. The climate was too cold, for one, and the service was just too slow. My wife ordered the king crab eggs benedict, and I ordered the smoked salmon hash. The smoked salmon hash was fine, but the crab eggs benedict arrived to the table cold. It was awful. Because my wife worked years in the restaurant industry, she is not one to complain, so we suffered in silence. We have eaten at salt half a dozen times, and the service is consistently poor, in our opinion, and the food just does not seem to live up to a proper fine dining experience. The final insult occurred when we were leaving. They had been giving Mother's Day roses to customers as they left, but there was no one available to give my wife one as we left the restaurant. In all, it was a really bad and yet expensive Mother's Day fiasco, which sadly is becoming the norm at Salt. I think it will be a while before we return. read more
