The best pizza in Appleton! I been going there since I moved to Appleton in 2004 from Feedom. The hospitality and customer service has always been great, just today I went in to have a bite to eat and felt very uncomfortable. Got in late from work and the crew was hungry. It was Saturday night and all the bars and pubs were crowded and loud, A quick jaunt from the hotel down the street and we found Sal's. Friendly folks and delicious food. The price is right. Small lobby with only about five tables, made it quaint and not too noisy. A great find when you don't want anything too crazy. read more

This pizza restaurant went above and beyond to save our company meeting! We had a company even catered from a catering company and they ran out of food. So we have more than 40 employees that did not eat. We called up Sals and they had 7 pizzas there ASAP! The woman was so so so so kind and empathetic to our situation. read more

I have always wanted to try cells, but was Hesitant because of the reviews. Today we stopped and got the meat lovers pizza it was hot, and delicious. They also serve a garlic roll along with the slice of pizza. I think this pizza is close to a New York slice. We were too hungry to snap a shot of our slices before enjoying them. As a New York girl visiting Wisconsin I was very concerned about the pizza possibilities but I was not disappointed. They are open late with a variety of slices to choose from. We tried pepperoni mushroom, Buffalo chicken, bbq chicken and regular old cheese and to be honest - I would have enjoyed these even in New York! It's been a second since I've had Sal's but holy cow--when this place came to the little college town of Appleton, WI, it took the Fox Cities by storm. I even had it on my recent trip back to Outagamie county for my boy and LU's leading receiver in school history, Zach M's wedding. The pizza still tasted dope, the white pizza was especially legit, and they still had a pluthera of choice for slices. Authentic as hell as Sal himself opened this place up back when I worked at was the real deal. An ex mafioso who gave a crap about his Za! I even worked for Sal's as a delivery guy in my fifth year (I slacked a bit). I used to take the pizza home at night. Shot up about 25 pounds in a trimester but it was worth it. I walked into Sal's Pizza and after perusing the menu on the wall decided to order 12 buffalo wings for $9.99. After waiting for 25 minutes --which I thought was a long time since there weren't many orders coming out of the kitchen -- the matriarch of the place rang up the wings and told me my total was $26 and change! When I pointed out that the menu price was $9.99 another employee told me that since inflation, prices have gone up and it's too expensive to update the menu which is just a poster. It should be easy enough to afford when you're charging $5 per slice and $25 for a dozen wings. They were, however, able to print out and tape to the wall updated prices for pizza slices and soda. It seems to me that they should be able to do the same for the rest of their menu items. I decided to not take the wings, and they didn't seem upset or anything, so I will give them credit for that, but to raise prices 150% without any notification is wrong. read more

I thought carefully about what rating to give this place. As a restaurant on its own the rating would probably be lower due to a limited menu. But for what it is it has to be 5 stars. It's on the strip in downtown Appleton. Its open late for the bar crowd and they serve amazing, giant slices of pizza for a reasonable price. Exactly what you want on a night out. The place can be pretty darn busy but I've always admired how friendly the staff is. The menu is light, but a warm slice of pizza (they warm it up for you right before serving) and something to drink is all I ever need. Highly recommend, especially if you are out on the town for the night. This is GOOD pizza! read more

This is possibly the worst pizza place I've been to. Our group of 9 came in around 12:30 Sunday afternoon sept.9 Employee ( female possibly owner) Asked if we we're getting pizza by slice.. We. Seriously some amazing pizza. With all the pizza places in Appleton, what makes this one so awesome? First, the cheese. A great pizza needs some seriously amazing cheese. This place hands down has the best cheese for a pizza. Second, the crust is great. Not too thick, or too thin. It is the perfect crust to fold in half and eat New York Style. Personally, I like to call ahead and order my pizza to take home. They are always piping hot and I am usually famished by the time I get home. And did I mention the rolls? Delicious! A family favorite that comes with all pizza orders. If you are not quite hungry for the whole pizza, you can order by the slice. Trust me, you at least have to try Sal's once! Stopped at Sal's for a slice on our way back to our hotel room. The first thing the person behind the counter was very helpful and had excellent customer service. The second thing is not only do you get huge slices of pizza but you also get free garlic knots with each slice. So the last thing is the pizza. I have eaten a lot of pizza being Italian and also coming from just a couple hours away from Chicago. This pizza was a top ten in my book. Let me first say my pizza rating for this place is 10 stars! I still LOVE their pizza, best in the valley hands-down, despite it being re-heated! Dare I say it's the best I've had in Wisconsin, 2nd best to Lombardi's Pizza in NYC IMHO... My review of the staff, is 2 stars, maybe 2.5 if that were an option. You truly get "just okay" service. Occasionally I see them happy looking or smiling, but not often. Definitely a little cold. The owner, who I'm assuming is the older lady with an accent, really needs to brush-up on her customer service. She always looks angry, barely talks to you, and when she does, I sometimes feel like I'm bothering her by requesting a slice of pizza. You make the best pizza in the area, and in a cool historic section of town, please try to like what you're doing. Or at least pretend to. A smile goes a long way, but so does a frown... read more

Mediocre, overpriced pizza, and rude staff. The pizza was ok but definitely not worth the price, and one of the workers was extremely rude.

First time giving Sal's a try, and I really wasn't all that impressed. I ordered the Philly Cheese steak and Chicken Parm sub sandwich for delivery. Delivery took almost two hours on a Tuesday night, and I only live a few blocks away. Both of the subs lacked any real flavor or quality. The Philly Cheese was watery and drippy, had very little ingredients or cheese on it, and both subs had burnt bread. The Chicken parm was better than the Philly Cheese, but again lacked any real flavor, and I'm pretty sure the chicken was processed. Overall not a good experience, I will not order from here again. (Update 4/6/17) Both my wife and I became sick after eating the Chicken Parmesan sub sandwich, and have now been sick for almost two days. Where I first thought the chicken was processed, I now believe the chicken to have been spoiled. read more
