I had my hair done by Lindsey on Saturday - cut, color, and highlights. Lindsey did a great job and I had a good experience. When I was done I bought some product, too, so my total was fairly significant. Afterwards, I was out to lunch with my daughter when I received a call from the salon and the girl said "I'm making a courtesy call on behalf of your stylist. It seems the person who checked you out undercharged you. She forgot to charge you for the cost of the actual haircut. We realize this is our error and we're not saying you have to do anything about this but, as a courtesy to the stylist, I wanted to let you know this will affect her income." I ended up paying the difference but am giving this salon a lower review because I think this is HORRIBLE customer service. You know the error was yours, and yet you call me and guilt me into correcting it for you. And it's not like they didn't get their money's worth out of me and easily made up the difference with the amount of product I bought. Pretentious and thoughtless. I tried three separate times to have a good time at Aura and in the course of those three visits I received average service, a lot of unhappy employees (very little smiling), and at one point I was ignored at the cash register so the employee could finish talking to her friend on the phone about their weekend plans. When you are asked to pay Chicago prices in Appleton, WI you should at the very least be taken care of when you are looking to buy products. Aura is a let down. read more

I had skipped a men's haircut with Covid for about 2 months. My wife had a gift card so I dropped in for a haircut with "an experienced hair dresser," so I was told. The haircut was well below average, and my wife had to fix the back up when I came home because it wasn't cut. The hairline was completely forgotten. It's really hard to get away for a leisurely trim, so I called the store, spoke with the desk manager, and had hoped to at least re-credit the cut. I never heard back from anyone. I'm sure there are plenty of happy customers, but for the money - and cut - males are best elsewhere. read more

Katherine Schuster is one of the most amazing stylists I have ever had. I have worked in an Aveda salon previously and have never met a stylist who knows exactly what I want and delivers it above my expectations. She was a life saver after my hair was butchered by a new talent artist and eased me into the transition of having a pixie cut. My second appointment with her was aimed at color and she gave me exactly what I wanted and read my mind about how I wanted my hair cut. Shes allowed for me to feel confident in who I am on the inside with the work she has done on the outside!!! The salon is clean and very welcoming :) read more

Ok so I have been here on two separate occasions. My first experience was with Kate a makeup artist in march about a week prior to my wedding to have practice makeup done, Kate was great, very personable and did a good job on my makeup, I enjoyed that and was happy with the outcome of my makeup, what I was not happy with was that I was charged $50.00 for practice makeup when the contract I was sent that I signed and returned clearly stated that it was 40$ so after tip I paid 60$ for practice makeup and then would have to pay another 50 upon returning for actual bridal makeup on March 16th which with tip comes out to like 120 just for makeup. But I guess this didn't really bother me until after the fact. So now on to my actual experience on why I'm only giving the salon one star and I would consider myself to be pretty forgiving, but I guess when it comes to my wedding day I felt I deserved better. Ok so overall feeling about the salon is that the ambiance is nice and it looks upscale and trendy, which I have become accustomed to from living in san diego, very city shall we say. Prices I guess are reasonable for the area and I received pretty average customer service from front desk and other stylists. So me and my bridesmaids ( there was 4 of them with me ) came to salon aura on march 16th to have hair and makeup done, it was at a cost of 90$ per bridesmaid for an up-do and natural makeup, and I was pretty pleased with how everyone looked, very elegant and natural and in a time effective manner. Now for my hair and makeup. I was happy with my makeup again this review is not a reflection on Kate, she was great and did a good job. This review is for the hair service I received and the amount I had to pay for it, I came in that morning and didn't have a scheduled hair appt., I was just having a bit of a hair malfunction, I had done my own hair prior to arriving at salon aura, I was wearing it down, and curly, I had asked if one of there stylists had time to just fix some of the curls and make it look fresh again. They were happy to accommodate, However, The girl doing my hair was nice, but she maybe fixed 7-10 curls in the back of my hair and put a hair clip in, took maybe 20 minutes, tops....... she pretty much did nothing. after that I went to get my makeup done, which turned out great, but now for the worst part, I went to the counter to pay and I owed 110.00$! for what I just cannot tell you, because according to my contract bridal makeup is 40$ for practice and 40$ the day of. and bridal hair is 60$ but as far as im concerned I had no such thing done. Since the stylist essentially did nothing for me after my salon visit, I had one of my friends who's a stylist meet me at the chapel and she had to fix my hair. This was so disappointing it brought me to tears on my wedding day......and I am still left confused about what I paid a total of 160+ dollars for??????? I hope this review is helpful. I am moving back to WI shortly but will not be returning to salon aura. read more

Dan is a great stylist! He has a great personality and really listens to what you want. He doesn't try to up-sell you with products either! He executes amazingly and is so much fun to talk to. He gives the most amazing scalp massages while shampooing your hair. The shampoo stations are also heated so you don't rest your neck on freezing cold ceramic...such a great invention! He is also reasonably priced. I am originally from Los Angeles and relocated to the midwest for grad school...and let me tell you the price for a cut here is amazing! Dan also cuts my boyfriends hair, so he is an excellent stylist for men and women! I will definitely be coming back to Dan!!! read more
