I didn't have a bad experience at this salon, but it wasn't what I was hoping for. The salon was very nice inside and all the staff were friendly. However, I was pretty disappointed with my hair cut. I was expecting a certain level of experience here. I only noticed how uneven and thick my layers were after I had straightened it. When the stylist finished styling my hair it was also still damp, but I decided to just let that go. The next salon I went to showed me how my layers looked in the back and you could see a drastic chunk, no blend between the layers. I think that all artists are perfecting their art so that is fine, I can't blame someone for not making it perfect. I just think this salon appears to be better for color than for a good hair cut if you are picky about your hair cuts. Or at least research which stylist at this salon is most experienced for cutting. Like I said not a bad experience, just not the level of expertise I was expecting and giving an honest review. read more

Great experience with stylist Mark for bayalage and haircut. He is fun, confident and skilled at his craft and it is obvious that he loves his work. (My hair is very long, dark, coarse and dry) A11 looks and feels like it belongs somewhere else, dare I say...urban in Appleton (?!), yet maintains the friendly, high value service of its small town roots. Caitlin gave me a haircut that I didn't ask for. It was uneven too. I tried to get my money back but some guy on the phone that I had never met in person told me I was emotional and don't know my hair then refused to give me my money back. He offered to have me come back to fix and to teach me how to style it. I told him I didn't pay $50 to do all that. I paid $50 to get the hair cut I wanted. Still refused to give me my money back. I don't know what $50 is to them but whatever. I would never recommend this place to anyone with ethnic hair. They clearly don't know what they're doing. Then they will try blame you for not reading their minds. There is a huge problem in America with business calling POC women emotional and not taking their claims seriously. read more

After moving to Appleton a year ago, I tried a few salons in an attempt to find somewhere that would give me as good of an experience as the salon I went to before I moved. I tried many "top rated" salons in the area, but honestly, Anagen 11 blew them all out of the park as well as my beloved salon that I had to leave. I've gone to Anagen for both skincare and hair appointments, and I definitely recommend both. I have gotten therapeutic facials with Kinley twice now, and both times were so relaxing! The second time I went in, my skin was going though a bit of a rough patch. Kinley used some of her "magic" tools on me, and two days later my skin was almost completely back to normal. Highly, highly recommend!! As for hair, I can be pretty high maintenance with the coloring. I saw Mark, and after showing him pictures he went over what he was planning on doing AND also asked me what my budget was. I have never, not once in my 12 years of getting my hair colored, been asked what I want to spend on an appointment. The amount of detail he went into for how he was going to cut and color my hair made it clear he knew what he was doing, as well. I was immensely impressed to say the least. I left with not only the perfect tone of blonde for my skin, but also a plan to make it even better over the next few appointments. From what I can tell, the staff at Anagen 11 seem very proud of where they work and are more than willing to take the time to work with you to get the exact results you want. Combine that with the modern and professional style of the salon, and you get a salon that has both cutting edge techniques and friendly Midwestern values. I couldn't recommend them more! read more

I have nothing but extraordinary things to say about Anagen. I started out as a client with Jenna Rae and she completely transformed my outlook on hair. She's such a skilled stylist and she's so genuine and sweet. Every-time I sat in her chair as a client she educated me on hair and the process she was doing because I had so much anxiety from previous experiences in other salons about my hair. She was so patient and always took the time to do a thorough consultation. I also worked as a model with Anagen on a few shoots and was always blown away by their hard work, creativity and teamwork. They inspired me so much that it actually lead to me going to school for cosmetology. I enrolled in school and fell in love with the industry because of them. The entire team is amazing so you can't go wrong by choosing any stylist. The three owners really curated something special when they opened Anagen. How you feel when you are at a Salon and when you leave a Salon are in my opinion, the most important things the owner can do for a client. Unfortunately, I had a horrific experience during my latest 2 visits at Anagen Eleven in Appleton, WI and left not feeling at all like an "11". I spend 7 hours the first visit only to leave with damaged hair and a color that I just couldn't live with. I had promises of "Don't worry we will fix it." I returned several days later only to be told by the owner Jess, that not only wasn't I going to be having it fixed to a color I could live with, but and I quote "She got what she came in for on Monday" I was floored. I literally cried the entire rest of the time I was there. (Which involved a short haircut and some dark back color in back to salvage what was left of my hair. I didn't sign up for either of these!) This owner never once spoke directly to me; she always spoke to my stylist. Never once did she apologize to me or acknowledge how badly I felt or try to at least make me feel better about any part of this visit.) I get that things happen, but seriously, I never felt so bad about a Salon visit in my life! I had high hopes for this Salon too, I spent a fair amount of money here and sadly I won't be back. I waited a week before I wrote this review hoping I would get a call from the owner asking how I was doing and maybe to offer any suggestions on what to do next with my hair. Sadly this didn't happen and I hope no one else has to go through the hair damage and the uncaring treatment I went through. read more

Utmost praise for this salon. To start, the inside design and atmosphere on the location is OUTSANDINGLY beautiful and luxurious, very modern and trendy. Every employee is super friendly and fits right in with the salon's style. I had a botched cut from a different salon that I was growing out, and I visited Anagen 11 with high hopes and was not disappointed. Jennifer was not only very friendly and personable, but actually listened to what I wanted/needed and discussed what would best work with my hair based on it's texture, my style, how I wear it, etc. She didn't do a thing to my hair with out clarifying with me first, and I just thought that was awesome. I have never felt so comfortable during a haircut, or trusted a stylist so well. Highly recommend her as well as this salon, it will be my go-to from now on. read more

I religiously get my hair cut by Jen Mullard (she's AMAZING) and she referred me to Kirsten for a dermaplaning appointment. I was a little apprehensive at first because I have pretty sensitive skin, but made the appointment because I had heard great things from friends that have come in and swear by it. Kirsten did an amazing job explaining everything to me and educating me on different things I could do at home to help care for my skin like a pro. When I voiced some concerns about my skin that visually bother me, she not only gave me tips and tricks to try, she also made me feel confidant and happy about things I normally would have felt self conscious about. I had such a great time with Kirsten, and I am so happy with the results already! I would recommend this to anyone and everyone! Kristen is truly talented at what she does, and made me feel like I was right at home.
