I went back to The Hair Boutique about two or three weeks ago to go from black to bayalage blonde hair. The last time I got my hair done was 7 months ago at this salon. Although getting black to blonde is not an easy feat by any means, I expected a better outcome. My first request was for a bayalage ómbre look. After 6+ hours I ended up with an orange top and blonde ends along with horizontal stripes of every shade of blonde there is. I wasn't happy with it and all of my friends also mentioned it looked like a unprofessional job. That cost me $180 before tip - highlights, toner and full head color (although I don't recall getting actual highlights, just large streaks of blonde). Leo mentioned that I could come back within 5 days later to get it fixed and that it would be a freebie. I came back 7 days later due to scheduling conflicts and he did actual highlights and my hair became even blonder. However it didn't fix the horizontal stripes and uneven color and he STILL charged me $100 for something he should've fixed for free. I looked like a raccoons tail for goodness sake. I would've rather spent double the amount to get exactly what I wanted and a professional job. He may be great at blow outs but I would definitely not come back for coloring. read more

I have to say when I walked into the salon I was in a bit of a bad Mood n Nervous, I couldn't explain exactly what I wanted however Leo quickly expained how can a hairstyles understand what I want if I myself don't know, to always do your homework b4 walking in to any salon. I quickly got comfortable and my mood changed. He is very matter of fact n to the point type of guy, another thing I liked was that he didn't give me unessary gossip or chatter, he answered my questions, no more no less. Gave me some tips, which I appreciated. I enjoyed the music n quite atmosphere. Oh, and of course being a lover I Loved his companion Foxy, his beautiful white dog. MAKE AN APPOINTMENT!!! This review is just for this particular day. I came back after a few months to get my haircut and a blowout. I had called a few days prior to see if I could make an appointment. Leo didn't pick up but was nice enough to get back to me and apologized for missing the call. I decided to ask Leo around 9am Thursday if I could stop by a bit later (10:30/11am). He said "sure." I arrived at the salon around 10:05 - Leo's not there yet. Ok, no biggie, especially since I had said I'd be by later. The girl there (not Sabrina - I think he has a new whole staff. I'd never seen this girl before.) told me he'd be there in about 20 minutes. The girl had such a freaking sourpuss, and it felt like me stopping in was a huge hassle to her day. I came back around 11:15am, and Leo was training a new stylist while she gave a client a haircut. I was paired up with another stylist (also new). It wasn't a big deal, but I wish Leo would have told me he was busy, or else I would have come another day. The stylist (Laura) was very nice, but it was very apparent that she is new. Everything felt very stiff and Leo had to give her tips on how to make the blowout process faster. She was super sweet though and I appreciated her not picking up her phone while she was doing my hair (unlike the other new stylist). The sullen girl who I had spoken to earlier washed my hair. I don't want to judge, because perhaps she may have been having a bad day, but she was really curt. I leaned over before she had put the towel on the back of the seat and her reply was "no showers for free here," but it came off as her being annoyed rather than a funny comment. Leo went off to get breakfast for the staff, and even asked me if I wanted anything, which was very nice. My trim and blowout was $45, not including tip. Laura tried her best, and my hair looks very nice, but I wish Leo had told me he was busy so I could have come another day instead. Also, if she's a junior stylist, shouldn't it be cheaper than if it were Leo doing the work? It appeared that it was very busy today, and Leo was asking his staff a lot of questions. Also, the new assistant - perhaps she was having an off day, but she did not come off as the most customer service friendly person ever. Even when she gave me change, she had a sullen look on her face. Oh, apparently Leo's dad runs the shoe repair shop next door. He was extremely sweet, and he even called me gorgeous! In the future, I'm going to make an appointment ahead of time. It seems like things get a bit chaotic without having an appointment and it frazzles everyone. read more

I came Leo Levi last week to do a color correction. At first I was a bit scared to recolor my hair because I just had a 2-3 color process. So I decided to call him and he said come by well take a look at it. off the bat he was very honest with me, said that the color that i would want probably would have to do 2x. The best part of the phone convo was that he scheduled me in at the last minute, and worked with me around my schedule. I came to the salon, the wait was VERY reasonable. He's a magician , he had many customers and took his time with each n everyone. When it was my turn, leo right off the bat started to educate me as far as what I need to do in order to maintain healthy hair, and he took his time to go over where the last colorist made the mistakes, and got to work. in less than 2hrs my hair came out BRILLIANT! I couldn't believe it, my color was so beautiful and exactly how I wanted it. He even went over areas with a comb to ensure brilliance and life throughout my entire head. I'm surprised by the mixed reviews on here. I went to Leo for the first time a few weeks ago for a haircut and highlights. I was looking for a new salon and was excited to see a Groupon for a place in my neighborhood. After meeting Leo and talking to him for a few minutes about what I had in mind, he explained why that wasn't the best look for my hair. He was convincing without being pushy and eventually left the decision to me. I took his advice and was incredibly happy with the results. I did end up having more services done than those included on the Groupon and Leo worked out a price that I felt was fair. On a personal level, he is warm, friendly and seems to be a genuinely nice guy. I mentioned a business venture that I was just getting started in and coincidentally, he has contacts in that industry and offered to make some introductions, which I thought was very considerate. I went to the salon the day of my birthday for a cut and a blowout. Everything was great, however, i have two complaints. my blowout didn't last the entire day. I got it done around 12ish and by 4-5 the waves were gone. Leo told me they would stay for a very long time and would even stay after I slept on it that night. The second issue that I had was my hair cut was uneven! I didn't want layers just the rounded shape. The top layer of my hair was MUCH shorter than the bottom and it was very noticeable. I had to recut my hair to make it evened out again. First and last time, don't think I will be returning there anytime in the new future. read more

Hey guys just visited Leo's salon today! I traveled all the way from the bronx to see him after reading all his great reviews. As soon as I stepped in the door I felt welcomed I loved everything about the place, I loved how honest leo was with me and his work is truly art!. My hair was a reddish ginger color that I could not get rid of for months, I wanted to go back to blonde and thought it would be impossible. But leo worked a miracle and I've got the most beautiful set of highlights and base color his work is truly magic I am so thankful for him and his girlfriend they both were magnificent and kept me great company during my time there. OMG! I'm so surprised at the price considering the service I got. The hair boutique is adorable and Leo and his assistants are so sweet. My hair dresser spent twenty minutes consulting with me and looking up pictures on my phone. She and Leo both suggested that I don't get bangs since I have a cowlick and the bangs would not sit right. I I've had bangs before and finally realized why they never sit right no matter how much I style them. They are very conservative at the salon and keep your hair as long as you want without going scissor happy. All in all great hair cut with great service at an unbeatable price. read more

Really small salon and hard to find since its on a small one way street. But it's very nice inside and Leo really tries to make you comfortable. He really tried to bring out the best in your hair and gives you a bunch of tips for future hair styles. Leo is an amazing guy who is so friendly, and he for sure knows what he's doing. I came in the first time a couple of years ago to get a haircut, and I loved it! A year later, I came back and decided to get highlights before my prom, and I was unsure on which shade of blonde I really wanted. I trusted Leo because he had his own professional opinion and it turned out amazing! At first, I thought it was too white, but as I got tanned over the summer, it was PERFECT. While the talent at this salon may not be terrible, the poor service, or lack in would not make me go back, even if I was forced to. So during the summer I brought a Groupon for this hair boutique, and went in to get my hair dyed for the first time in my life. First of all, Leo was so overbooked that by the time he was only half way into my hair, other customers started coming in, some with appointments and some without. These customers, who were more outspoken, than my shy and passive self, so they got the service and attention they demanded, while a random girl who walked into the boutique a little before it got busy, was given instructions and told to finish dying the rest of my hair. Mind you, I was terrified to begin with, as this was the first time I was putting any color in my hair. When it was time to pay, he said he could not accept my groupon since I got more done than it offered. Disappointed, but understanding, I said okay, went out to an ATM got him his cash (doesn't take card) and left. Despite the fact that I live so far away, I went back around a month ago for just a haircut, and even though my groupon from the summer was expired, the groupon said that the monetary value never expires and can be used for any service at the salon. I had even called prior to my appointment and was told that I could use the groupon towards anything even though it was expired. During my haircut, I once again, mentioned that I was using the groupon, as I didn't want any misunderstandings like the first time. I was told that because Leo would not make any profit from redeeming the groupon for just a trim and blowout, I could not use it since Groupon hadn't even paid him yet (he would have gotten their money once he redeemed my groupon but ok...). He said that the groupon is only viable for when you color your hair (which is not stated in the groupon at all). I was told to contact groupon and deal with my issue with them. More than just annoyed, I still smiled gave him his cash and left. As I was driving home, I realized that if I was able to use the monetary value of the groupon for any sort of color, then why was I denied the use of my groupon during my first visit? He did not even subtract the groupon value from the amount I was forced to pay during that visit (and it was a lot). I called groupon, who was very nice and understand and was given the money back in groupon cash. I felt as if I was taken advantage of by a guy who owns a cash only business (pays no taxes), just because I wasn't outspoken or demanding. Bottom line: If you are going to sign a contract with groupon, don't be salty when people come in and try to use the goddamn groupon, it's what you signed up for, and your customers should not have to go through hell and back just because you're uptight that people aren't paying you the amount that you want to be paid. Highly recommend that you think 10 times before making a trip here. read more
